After being forced to live among the humans, Elise finds herself on the cusp of a war that she isn’t sure how to fight let alone win. Along with a small supernatural group of sorcerers, werewolves, vampires and one Nephilim warrior, she is prepared to risk it all in order to protect and defend the world that they know and love.

While Elise has that one goal in mind, she is also learning to adjust to the gift her mother sent her from the other side, her wolf. And if all that weren’t enough, she must also choose between the affections of the head sorcerer Garrett, and the sexy alpha wolf Enrique. One thing’s for sure, Elise has no intention of being coerced into a relationship neither by loyalty nor a supernatural bond.

Elise never would have imaged that everything would come to a head because of one witches spell. One spell could change everything…

I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dead spell is the second book in the Elise Michaels series which spun off of the Nephilim Warrior Series. It picks up where coven left off with Elise, Garrett, Van, Enrique, and Mona still living in the "Human World" apart from the coven they left in the middle of a war between them and H.A.S.A.

In the mist of all that is going on Elise is still coming to grips of being "Two-natured" and learning how to handle the wolf side of her and all the changes that come with it. If that wasn't enough the betrothal bond between her and Garrett has been severed, and he is still having a hard time with it.

Then there is Enrique, the wolf that Elise has to look to for guidance during her transformation. He has let her know that he wants more, but Elise isn't sure she wants more due to him always throwing around his Alpha Status. Then there is the feelings she still has for Garrett. She knows she has to choose one, but is not sure either will be good for her.

We also get introduced to a new Character based on the character creation contest Stacey Nixon. Not sure how I feel about her yet, but she definitely has some potential.

I Highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of K.A. Young as the story's go on, I find that the author is growing in her writing style. I couldn't put this book down and am sad that I had it read in three hours and now have to wait longer than I want for Book 3.

Well done

I am really enjoying this series, it makes me giggle at times and Elise comes across as so real. We all screw up and have our worst moments so it makes her come to life.

My review:

Dead Spell is the second book in The Elise Michaels Series and when I got invited to the blog tour I also read the first book, Coven.

This was my first introduction to the author K.A. Young and I truly liked the world which K.A. young has created. There are weres, there are vamps, there are witches and even zombies in Dead Spell, just everything what a good fantasy book needs. Dead Spell was easy and not very time-consuming to read, because it's only 90 pages long. it's packed with action and I enjoyed the pacing of the book.

Plot:

Dead Spell picks up where the prequel, Coven, ended.
Elise is still getting used to her wolf side and besides this there are other issues she is facing, amongst others understanding who she is - sorceress or wolf or both. Her focus is mainly on protecting her coven, but it's not as easy during the war. There are twists and turns and affection from more than one man is adding to the story development.

Characters and relationships:

I liked Elise, I loved her need for independence and not being bound to anyone. I also think that she grew as a character.

There are three hot likable males, out of which two are seriously pining for Elise. The Head Sorcerer of the Coven, Garrett and the Alpha wolf Enrique. Both of these men have an important role in Elise's life. Garret is betrothed to her and Enrique is helping Elise to come in turns with her wolfie part. Both of them represent the most important parts of Elise's life.

Even though the relationships are hot and well-written, I have one problem with it and it has nothing to do with K.A. Young's writing. I just dislike love triangles. It's probably because I can't relate to it and understand, HOW can a woman be so indecisive. I do understand, it's not an easy decision Elise needs to take, especially thinking how independent she is and how different Enrique and Garrett are, but still, sometimes I wanted to shake her up telling: "Wake up, girl and make up your mind! Pick Van!" Because I liked Van best. :)

With that said and the fact me not liking triangles in the plot very much, it is really my problem and not the author's problem, I have to finish with saying that the characters were lovable and fascinating and nicely developed throughout the story, so that did not affect the reading and the whole picture of the book. It's not taking over the story and its values and that in my book means, it's a job well done by the author.

Generally:

Dead Spell is a page turner which is light and easy to read and has some twists and turns in the plot which surprise you and has some fun characters to enjoy. Read it!

Dead Spell (Elise Michaels, #2) by K.A. Young
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
*Do not read if you haven’t read Coven, the first book in the series.
This is the second in the Elise Michael’s series and the books should be read in that order. This series is a spinoff of the Nephlim Warrior Series, but it’s not required to read that series prior in order to enjoy these books! When we last left Elise and her somewhat band of misfits they were fighting the bad guys. All the prior characters are returning, Garrett, the Head Sorcerer of the Coven is still pining after Elise and dropping not so subtle hints about how eager he is to regain their betrothal bond. Van, Elise’s warrior protector is back, but in another capacity. Also, in this book we get to know a bit more about Enrique, Elise’s fellow wolf comrade, and newest admirer. Elise’s main goal is protect her coven and the welfare of Mona, who remains in her care.

Elise is once again forced to choose between which man is best for her, is Garrett truly in love with Elise, or does he just want Elise’s powers and strength to make their Coven more powerful? Has Van lost Elise forever, or is he still in her destiny. Rest assured Van is still as fun loving and laid back as ever. More of Enrique is introduced in this book, all very Alpha-Male, and hot! My only complaint is that I felt he and Elise’s story is a bit rushed, however, this is a short book and only 90 pages so I understand why the author didn’t waste any time on their part of the story.

This is light and fun paranormal romance, with wolves, witches, and magic. Elise proves to be a great character, searching for love, independence and to find out who she is a sorceress or a wolf. This book is geared towards anyone 18 and over due to mild sexual content and language. This book does end in a cliff hanger, nothing major that will leave you angry, just leaving you ready for the next in the series.

I would like to thank you K.A. Young for the opportunity to read and review her book and I look forward to the next in the series

What is my main grumble? It was far too short a book. Although it’s the 2nd book I the series, it reads far more like a novella novel in terms of length. There are also far more spelling and grammar mistakes as well as missing words than I have seen in the author’s other books that I’ve read.

Elise and Van break up for good after he sleeps with Kara, but it is a very amicable split and it doesn’t affect their friendship. Does it mean that Elise’s love life gets any easier? Absolutely not….. She is now in a love triangle with Garrett and Enrique, her werewolf bodyguard! Elise gets to know her wolf and after going through her first change, she gets up close and personal with Enrique and they decide to take their relationship to the next level. All the while, Garrett is still declaring his love for her. We also meet Stacey, a human witch who has been paid to spy on Elise’s group. When they discover who she is they cast a loyalty spell on her which results in her being suspended from her coven. Life doesn’t get any easier however and just as they are getting used to having a new member in the team, the city is over-run with zombies. It seems that some of the witches in Stacey’s coven are somewhat power hungry and have cast a dark magic spell which causes humans who are dead and buried to rise up from their graves. Whilst the werewolves and Van fight off the zombies, Elise reaches out to Garrett and together they cast a spell which over-rides the witches spell.

The 1st battle is won by Team Elise, but the war is far from over. Especially as Dan the dumbass Hunter (from the Last Female Warrior series) is guiding H.A.S.A. in their crusade against the Supernaturals. I have no idea where Book 3 is going to take us but I hope the author hurries up and finishes writing it!

Another winner from KA Young! I loved Elise the moment we met her in Anna's book and was thrilled to see her get her own series. In this second book in the series we see Elise has grown as a person, a witch and a mother and most of all into an adult.

There is a lot of action in this book as Elise and the gang take on the HASA. We meet some new people and we get to know some others better (YAY!!!!!)

By the end of this book Elise has faced down and lived through some of the most difficult choices laid in front of her and learned from them. She doesn't always make the easy decision and she always looks out for her girl. She is always conscious of what her choices mean for her world around her, especially as she and the rest of those in her circle build a life for themselves away from the compound and the Coven.

KA has herself another winner here!

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!! Dead Spell was way too Short! I Had it Done and Over with in under 2 hours. *Cries*

Okay That Was my Only complaint. Dead Spell comes in Where Coven Left off at. All three guys Plus Mona! Enjoyed This One a lot cause My Alpha Got Loads of Stage Time. A New Character Stacey comes in. Oh and Zombies! There is Zombies in this, I could Go On for hours about this book. But I Think I spewed more then I should cause I hate Spoilers.

I Have been Reading K.A. Young for the past year. Each Book she puts out Gets better and better. She is Everything I want and Need in a Indie Author!

K. A. Young never fails to deliver in her writing. I was captivated from the very beginning; couldn't put it down! That whilst love triangle going in between Enrique, Elise and Garrett, just hot!! I love Garrett but he needs to realize that Elise wants something more than just a connection via magic or a bond! I feel like hitting him upside the head. Van and Stacey best couple ever! I think they are perfect together. Too bad he didn't recognize her as his mate; that would have been explosive. Can't wait to pick up the next one!

I really loved Coven, so I was really excited to see the continuation of the story. Elise is one of my favorite characters so I love that she has her own series :) The story picks up where Coven left off and has an added complication with Elise trying to control her new two-natured side. To me, this is a great addition and it really sets the story apart from others. I really like the love story and the men are super sexy (at least they are in my head!) I can't wait to see what happens next!

This second book in the series is even better than the first because we learn more about Elise and the 3 men that are vying for her love. Almost running secondary to that story line is the battle with zombies and trying to keep humans safe, and ignorant of the supernatural beings in their presence. If anything the story ended too soon, so now I am going to have to wait impatiently for the third book in the series. These books are wonderful and I definitely recommend them.

Dead Spell had me captivated from start to finish. Action packed, dangerous, sexy and funny. This book has everything, sexy Nephilim warriors, hot werewolves & sorcerers. K.A. Young brings her characters to life in a brilliant and believable way. Do yourself a favour and read all of K.A. Young's books. Dead Spell is the second book in The Elise Michaels Series which is a spin off The Nephilim Warrior Series, all of which are excellent reading.

Dead Spell is book #2 in The Elise Michaels Series. Elise has been forced to live in the human world and is learning to deal with her wolf. The characters you have come to know including sorcerers, werewolves, vampires and one very sexy Nephilim warrior bring this book alive. If you love paranormal adventure and romance you will love this book.

Good in between

This is a good short read looking forward to the next book. Elise is a strong female character thought this triangle and stubbornness sometimes are over the top.
