I think this book can be a useful resource in the right hands. It has a lot of valuable information but in my opinion, you need to be highly determined to go through this correctly and work through the practices. I found a lot of the examples did not apply to my situation, so I was not as engaged as I could have been. For someone that is not able to go to an official counselor of some sort, this book may help. The other suggestion I have is to go through this book with a trusted friend that can help you stay motivated and nudge you to keep going and delve deeper than you may be brave enough to do alone.

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.
In the tradition of Melody Beattie and Pia Mellody, this book is a guide to help the reader move to healthier life choices. Focus is primarily on relationships, mostly romantic. I found the case studies a bit weak, and many of the situations sounded like toxic relationships. This is a solid reference, but I prefer the foundational materials of the previously mentioned authors, who go into more detail with a clearer, more well-rounded perspective.

I use this workbook for group therapy & my clients really enjoy exploring this subject. The author approaches the change in behavior with evidence-based therapy by using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The goal is to help the reader change negative automatic thinking patterns as it relates to being triggered in relationships & become more balanced in caring for self & an intimate partner. We use her recommended codependency recovery plan that the group recipients do on their own which explores the relationship with their caregiver & they can tie this into how they behave in an intimate relationship. I would like more on helping the narcissist because they are equally as codependent as the one who is caring for the narcissistic person but the focus is more on the over giver. Overall a good resource especially if you are familiar with CBT.

A bit of a simplistic, black and white view of codependency. Maybe good for someone new to this concept. The early chapters and quiz were very black and white in terms of behaviors associated with codependency. I personally hate examples of fictitious people in fictitious situations. "Manish and Jade were attending...." I'm returning this.

it was good
It honestly was highly focused on addiction. I think people forget codependents aren’t always connected to addicts. So I didn’t get as much as I wanted but it’s nice to see I am in recovery from my codependent nature

Better than I was expecting. Not as good as Codependent No More, but still good. Simple and clear.

Lovely workbook with opportunities to practice healthy communication, thinking and goal creating. Really enjoyed this and am enjoying reviewing a chapter a week in therapy. 🥰

Compelling , but I wish she would have labeled the exercises in Chapter 8 for easier reference. The writing exercises also felt a little repetitive.

As I always say with these sorts of books, this work is never truly finished. This book is excellent at examining and practicing recovering from being codependent.

Excellent workbook for those that are codependent or dealing with codependent people. This book is factual but easy to read. It provides relatable scenarios with questions for you to think about how you can respond. Promotes how to mediate problematic situations in life.

Great resource
I have been a member of Al-Anon for a while, but was looking for a good workbook to help keep me engaged in my recovery. This book helped teach me several new skills.
