Aden, son of Tarek, is a seer—an elite member of The Selected which stands guard before The Fall, the border between light and dark realities. Darkness was foretold at his birth along with the words ‘lavender waters will set you free.’ What Aden assumed to be a mythical prophecy, is eventually manifested in a ravishing beauty with long, lavender hair.
Skylynn had seen their future, the sacrifice and divide set before them. She told him they had three days—three days before they must part to meet in a distant future. Aden dares to challenge the limits set before him by empowering his innocent lover with words and energy as he plots to face the darkness predicted before it claims her—and their rightful future together. I'm an obsessive daydreamer. Lover of loud alternative music. I love to laugh until it hurts. Fall is my favorite season. Black is my favorite 'shade.' Strong believer in the saying: there is a reason for everything, therefore I search for 'marked moments' every moment of everyday...and I find them. Life is beautiful!
This was short and sweet and filled with lots of backstory... thanks for that as i felt it really helped to bring a couple of story points into clarity. I really like Aden, he seems so genuinely good, strong and determined. Can't wait for more!!
This book begins on the other side of The Fall many years prior to the other books. It explains Skylynn and Aden's relationship from the beginning. We also get to see some of the other characters of this series
Back to my reread of the Web saga after a little pause that helped me write recaps of these books. Yeah it's so huge it deserves actual written recaps ahaha
Anyway, back to Derive. This is the shortest book of the series but let me tell you, there's so much information to take in!
I think I gave it 4 stars the first time around because I did not understand everything that was happening because 1) my English wasn't as good as today and 2) I let too much time pass between this book and the previous ones.
Now that everything is clear in my mind, I absolutely loved it! Aden and Skylynn's story is brief and the ending feels frustrating, that's for sure... BUT all the other informations Jamie just puts there, like little gifts for you to understand, are priceless!
I loved this glimpse of the light reality, seeing how The Fall actually works... It really is fascinating to imagine how Jamie Magee got this idea and put it to paper. I'm really in awe of her mind. I keep wondering if she had this all planned out from the beginning or if she "just" took advantage of the blind spots she left in all this universe. I can't wait for her to finish this series when the time will be right.
If I want to keep this review spoiler free, I cannot say much... I loved seeing Skylynn's role in this web : her visions, her actions in the light reality (that actually have consequences in the other books in "present time"!!).
All in all, this book EXPLAINS so many little parts of the whole web and the purpose of the characters! It gives you a glimpse into the past timeline, it sets Aden and Skylynn's fate in motion while showing their enemies and friends...

I quite enjoyed it .. I must say you DO need to have read all the other books .. the twists or webs , Jamie has woven ,would indeed tie you in knots to try and understand!
What a cute, sweet romantic novel read. The beginning paths for the characters of this series is compellingly told, I loved everything about this book and was instantly pulled in. There is something so innocent feeling about it, and possibly understand and knowing from previous books could of played a small part in how exciting this novel is. The heart-breaking devotion the male lead has to stop a horrendous future happening to his leading lady and himself is romantic it makes the reader want to believe and hope for the couple, for their meeting each-other was so epically sweet and loving. A satisfying read personally one that is needed and appreciated.
This is the fourteenth book in the Web of Hearts and Souls series, the first in the Derive series, and gives the reader the backstory of how all of the characters came across the fall. The focus of this book is definitely Aden and Skylynn, but Landen/Guardian, Phoenix/Sebastian, Cashton, Willow/Aliyanna, Madison, Indie, and Charlie all appear. This is a prequel, but if you were to read it before all the others it would change the journey that the author takes you on through the Web. Looking forward to more from this couple!
I loved that we finally got a glimpse of Ayden and Skylynn! And I really liked that we got to see a bit of a different side of some of the other characters!
