A collection of all the short stories released from volumes 1 to 11! Furthermore, Mojikakiya-sensei reflects on his work on the series in “Revisiting S-Rank Daughter,” including behind-the-scenes insights into the development of many characters, early ideas, the origins of certain names, and more—a veritable treasury of bonus data for the fans! And if you were wondering what happened to Angeline and her friends after the main story ended, read on!
Short story analogies can be great if they are like a long epilogue. When it is a string of rather short stories set during the main storyline, it becomes much more a hit or miss for me. This is very much the later: short events during the main story that together are a miss. Those short stories were not the author's strong point in the main tale, here it is for the most part just boring. Were it not for the interesting final chapter in which the author gives some insight in his writing process for this series, I would have given it 2 stars, but it does make it interesting enough to round it up to 3.
This book compiles the S-Rank Musume short stories that MOJIKAKIYA wrote as bonuses for the individual volumes. The short stories might of course mean nothing to someone who has not read the series, but for those who have, it's interesting to see how MOJIKAKIYA fleshed out the universe he wrote in more details through these short stories. They're also his exercise in writing; thus, of special interest is his essay Rediscovering S-Rank Daughter in this book, in which he elaborates the process of planning and writing the series and the characters. A delightful way to part with the series for the fans.
