This was cute!

It took a little bit for the cuteness to unfold because oh my goodness, Chole's mother is unhinged and treats her horribly! I was upset for much of the beginning because of the abuse Chloe received for so long! I was more than thrilled when she escaped her family to get to the capital!

However, my happiness quickly turned into worry with how sickly Chloe became and even extremely hopeless! I'm thankful she met Lloyd shortly after because what a good man! I love how "odd" he is at times, but how equally sincere and honest he is!

I didn't read the blurb before I started reading, but I did remember the cuteness of the cover and was a little bummed there wasn't a lot of romance in this volume, but the unfolding of what is sure to be a cute romance is definitely there! If I could find volume two on a deal like I did with this volume, I would definitely get it because I want to see Chloe be happy and I also want to see more of Lloyd's blushy faces! LOL!

Overall, this was perfect to read when I was super sick and me needed something that was (for the most part) chill and easygoing! Very much cheering for these two and their happiness together! <3

Lloyd is such a ditz, I love him.

Art is nice meanwhile story I'm curious where it's gonna go because there's only so much you can do with this set up.

Recap: Shitty mom calling her a curse because of a birthmark, she's forced to be the house servant, one day runs away after the mom attempts to kill her, she makes a two week trek to the capital and is saved by a guy when a group of men try to assault her, she wakes in his bed, he cooks for her and tells her to recover while he goes to work, she takes it upon herself to cook for him, clean the house, and greet him, after tasting her cooking, he gives her a proposition: be the housemaid and she can stay there with a stipend and everything.

This was nice but unmemorable. Chloe has had a very bad life, despite her high birth. She has a birthmark, so her mother decides she’s cursed and treats her horribly. When she tries to kill Chloe, she runs away from home to the kingdom’s capital.

She’s very naive and completely unprepared, so get’s assaulted almost immediately. She’s saved by a gallant knight who takes her to his home. As a thank you, she cleans and cooks for him. He finds her skills good so he hires her as his housekeeper. End of vol one.

I’m happy that Chloe’s life improved, and the art was nice, but this wasn’t interesting enough to continue.

This seems to follow the light novel fairly closely, though we get to see the characters drawn out instead of just a few art pages in the book and the story in the volume is shy of how far the story goes in the first light novel, which is usually about how manga and light novels compare for the same series. Chloe's innocence really stands out, as does Lloyd's rather unique perspective and maybe a bit of loneliness. Really, they're both rather lost souls all in all. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the series compares.

CW: Domestic Abuse

This starts off with our heroine running away from her abusive as fuck family after her mother tries to kill her. She starts working as a house keeper for a knight. It follows her navigating her traumas and slowly falling in love. The male lead is so sweet and kind and it’s a wonderfully sweet story with likely some angst to come likely from the wicked mother of our dear heroine.
This is a series I definitely will be continuing.

Really enjoyed this. Got this for 99 cents on Amazon and it was worth the read. While it starts out rather tragic, it slowly transforms into something rather wholesome and sweet. You can tell that the two mains both have some healing to do but are there for one another. Really curious why the mother chose Chloe to be her scapegoat other than a "curse" but I think there must be something more going on. There usually is.

If you're looking for action, look somewhere else, because this is mostly two people talking.

After the domestic abuse scenes, that is. CW for domestic abuse, by the way.

about on par with the light novel, which was pretty bad, but at least this is faster and we have yet to escalate to "romantic head petting".

This was fine, I didn’t expect the abusive start but it set up her character well. She reminds me of the lead from Honey Lemon Soda.

4.5 if I could.

I enjoyed this! This is for sure going to be a slow burn story which is fine with me! I am interested in seeing what happens next.
