All info you can get from Pinterest, not great info for a beginner. Spells that are not for beginners. Love spells really?!? Voodoo that's a no go. Don't know why it's so high in ratings
Love the podcast it was fun but now I'm questioning everything.

Rating: As much as I loved Dylan in his podcast, I have to give this a 3/10 on the actual use scale. I will explain why in the cons sections.

Pros: Dylan has some amazing correspondences and a very down to earth explanation of just about everything! He covers everything from spellwork with candles, to scrying, and all the way how to cleanse, charge, and concentrate candles for use! I did enjoy a good chunk of the book and Dylan’s way with words. It feels rather like you’re reading a personal blog or sitting with the author himself while he walks you through things. He’s the first author I’ve read that actually describes the action of cleansing and concentrating anything in a energetic way that actually made sense to my brain. Most energy work goes straight over my head with the way people tend to describe it.

Cons: I will start this off by saying this: Dylan has been inducted into Hoodoo and New Orleans based Vodun through proper means. HOWEVER, the sheer amount of Hoodoo and Vodun based spellwork in this book makes it practically useless for anyone else who may be reading it, especially for beginners! I was exceptionally disappointed to see how little of the book and it’s list of spells could be applicable to everyone, and I was even more disappointed that the author was willing to throw all this information out there for anyone to use after going through the proper channels himself first to learn this information.

He also has plenty of spells with certain deities in mind for each one, which makes me mildly uncomfortable, the spells could be titled and used without those associations. But that last point is a personal gripe because I've always been of the mindset that calling upon a deity for a spell should be done after you've at least established some sort of relationship/worship first.

I don't think I'm quite this kind of beginner anymore, but I still found this incredibly useful in concisely articulating a lot of things I didn't quite know how to put into words. Taking candles and discussing them on their own is such a useful conversation to have as candles are one of the most popular magical tools.

The entire first part of this book and the discussion around candles was great. However, I just wasn't a fan of the spells. This book may be the excellent for those looking for a Hoodoo/Voodoo-inspired practice or looking to incorporate Hellenistic deities into their work. But I am not looking for deity work right now and am neither of culturally relevent decent nor indoctrinated into Hoodoo/Voodoo spiritual traditions. So most of these spells aren't exactly helpful to me.

I will say that the tables at the end of the book are great references to use when still incorporating the routine of remembering certain color and time correspondences into your practice. Days of the week, moon phases, etc.

One of my only true complaints about this book (as my lack of interest in the spells is personal preference) is the complete lack of references. The author includes a list of resources (including their personal shops - which is excellent and good for him but not a cited source) but not really any references that point to anything to support where some of this information came from.

This book is otherwise quite delightful, though when I am through with absorbing the information I need from it, I will probably pass it on to a friend.

Well dun

As a gud reedor with a gud brane guy eye got 2 say ya is a gud book ya no so ya red it an ya vary gud k it took me like 3 weeks 2 reed so onistly it is a hard 1 to reed so ya lots of hard werds and im a rly smart guy butt its a gud book (sp?)

Just kidding. This is actually a good little, enchanting and cute, book. It's packed with lots of concise and accurate information on candle magick. Candle magick is simple and yet a very effective form. This is witchcraft in its more simple (magick doesn't need to be complex or complicated to be highly effective -- in fact, it can be just the opposite at times) forms. Candle magick is highly effective. Especially the spells in this book. Though, one can even simplify it even further. This is pure witchcraft (or a voodoo/hoodoo energy current as a few spells on this book tap into). Personally, I'm not a fan of voodoo or hoodoo, so I shall adapt my own ideas into those ones. Every beginning magician/witch/sorcerer (etc.) should read this. It teaches the basic and necessary theories on why and how it works (theory and practice, so it's not just a "hey, here's some spells lolol go and do them ok roflcopter haha hehe hoho lol k buy ok lol u can b a powar ranger now ok).

Highly recommended for those new to the occult!

A short, to the point read on all kinds of magic related to fire and wax. I enjoyed the small history lesson on how candles became what they are today. There are also a good variety of spells for the basic big desires/wishes people seek. I even like how the perspective comes from multiple religions and folklore. For once, a person isn't just using a majority of wicca beliefs and then calling it "mixed" or eclectic.
In relation to that, I personally wouldn't preform ALL the spells in this book. Mystic Dylan comes from a lovely blend of clutures and backgrounds. Some of which are considered closed cultures. He is welcome to them. I am not. I respect that. I love reading about them but refuse to steal or appropriate. Lucky for me, there is some Celtic spells thrown in that are perfectly in line with my beliefs and my ancestry.
It's good there was a big warning on fire saftey. However, when it came to health spells, I don't recall a disclaimer on seeking professional help for ailments. That disappointed me.
Also disappointed how he made it a point to pay attention to shapes and imagery that appear in smoke, flame, and wax but just pointed to a different book for you to figure out the meaning. Dude. Couldn't even touch on some of the most common signs and symbols? Really??
All in all, it's a pretty good beginner book. Though it shouldn't be a stand-alone copy for baby witches.

I found this book a bit too simple, even if it's meant for beginners. The first part (which is more theoretical) and the correspondences tabs at the end can be useful, but still, it felt like they only skimmed the topic. The second part is all about spells and practice, but it didn't always resonate with me. I don't think it's a bad book, however it's probably not for me. Maybe I'm just not the target audience or maybe I'm not an absolute beginner anymore.

Also, I would have appreciated a disclaimer when talking about healing depression and anxiety. I don't think that candle magic alone could heal these conditions and it's important to mention therapy and medication as well. I know the author was briefly talking about his own experience, but I think it would be worth mentioning, especially if the book is targeted towards younger people.

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What I really like about Candle Magic For Beginners by Mystic Dylan is that though being about using candles in witchcraft, which can sometimes meander away from practical practice into the more tenuous realm of spiritual belief, this book did a great job of providing the reader with a wealth of historical knowledge, ancient mythos, and practical facts. I love that the burn times of the various types of candles, and what materials are used to craft them was shared. I think that if you are looking to learn more about how candles are used in witchcraft, and the history behind the craft of using candles for such, this is a fantastic resource of information.

We have finally gotten to our first book of magic for the new year. After all of the all-purpose books of magic that I read last year, I have now moved onto more topic-specific books. After some books on crystal, moon magic, and runes I have now moved onto an entire book on candles. Candles can be found in almost every book of spells that I have read and I wanted to delve deeper into how they work. This book delivered big time on exactly what I wanted. There was so much good information in here. I also liked the spell within this book and I will definitely refer back to them in the future.

This books has so much good information, truly it has a great deep dive into candles, and everything it includes. Like how to pick a candle, how to enjoy candle magic, how to dress and consecrate a candle, etc. Here are where my gripes come in. First he appropriates. A lot. Constantly mentioning palo santo, sweetgrass, red cedar, and it is so casual that beginners might miss that. He also mentions to bury the wax which is an ecological no-no. The love magic section was *pleasant* enough, mentioning you shouldnt use love magic to dominate someone, but he lacks nuance for cultural spells.

This book is amazing and has everything you need to start a great foundation on candle magic. Not only a good guide for beginners but also has lot of useful information and reference material for people that already have experience with candle magic. Mystic Dylan knows what he's talking about and has a passion for his craft.

I really enjoyed this book! It's written in a clear, straightforward, and approachable way. The sections on candle colors, types, and shapes had more information than in other candle magic books I've read. And the spells are very detailed with all the steps laid out. Great for anyone looking to learn about candle magic!

Everything you need to get started

I am impressed with this book. It covers everything from the different types of candles to days of the week to perform certain spells. I have read others entitled "Beginner" but the were not as thorough as this book. I read the e-book and will be ordering a hardcopy as soon as I post this review.

i didn’t really get any information out of this books it was that level of basic i also think the whole idea that the last half of the book is spells and correspondences to be completely unnecessary, the people that will get useful information out of this book in my opinion are not as advanced to be doing the spells given .

Great for beginners

Definitely a beginner oriented book, Mystic Dylan goes into great detail over the different facets of candle magic. While it may not be the useful for a witch who has already dabbled in candle magic, it has the potential to be a staple for a beginner witch.

Perfect for beginners. Only positive candle spells are included. No hexing etc.

Good Info

This was a very good book. I got a lot of information out of it as well as spells I want to try. This book provided most of the information I was looking for. I would say this book is for beginners first starting off with candle magick.

This was very insightful in terms of different types of candles, the color meanings, and even talks about the different burn times for the different types of candles. This is definitely a good references book for candle magic, and there are some spells in throughout the book. I would recommend.
