The way that Caleb character builds and keeps us on the edge of our seats. This book literally had me at the edge of my seat from start until the end. I cannot wait until the next book.
I was fortunate enough to get into this series on the ground floor and have been part of the author's ARC team on this series from day one.
The book takes place in picturesque Myrtle Beach, NC. It follows the tale of Clark Thomas, a bookstore owner haunted by his wife's unsolved murder, who returns in Myrtle Beach Burns, the seventh installment and Season 1 Finale (which makes the simile of this being akin to a television show such as "Murder She Wrote" - a comparison that I have made in previous reviews) of the gripping Myrtle Beach Mystery Series, tensions escalate as Clark Thomas delves deeper into the enigmatic circumstances surrounding his wife's death.
As Clark Thomas and Detective Gina Gomez uncover connections to a faceless holding company previously exposed in Death on the Back Nine) and untangle a web of suspicious deaths going back over the last three years, they find themselves trapped in a labyrinth of deceit within their ranks. With each twist and turn, Clark's paranoia grows, forcing him to confront not only external threats but also his trust issues, his relationships with both Detective Gomez and his girlfriend, Andrea, and his inner demons.
Personally, I enjoyed the multiple references to Agatha Christie (and if you know one of her famous quotes then you know why).
I enjoyed this book and think it would be a solid favourite of fans of "home-baked" murder mysteries and crime fiction thrillers. As such I would easily give this book a solid four stars out of five.
As with all my literary ramblings, these are my five thoughts worth.
As I read thru the first book, I found myself thinking I would not be able to complete reading it. With short, choppy sentences and too much unneccessary detail, I'd find myself getting frustrated with the fact it just didn't "flow". However, I pushed on, as the storyline was good and the mystery had me in its grip. So much so, that I got the second book. Then I find myself here, the end of the last book of the series. All of them have had this armchair detective guessing incorrectly. They have also had me cheering on Clark and an unnamed (no spoilers, remember) woman. I'm sad iI have to wait so long for the release of the final book in this series but look forward to still being here and still maintaining my eyesight to read it. Kudos, Caleb Wygal! Please hurry with the next book and consider additional ones for this series.
When it comes to Caleb Wygal, he never disappoints. His books always keep me turning the pages. I also like the fact it takes place in Myrtle Beach, my old stopping grounds in my teen years when we would vist.
This is the longest of the Myrtle Beach Mysteries this far, but it really ties up many of the loose ends from the first six books. It's a great action thriller.
I really enjoyed this book Caleb Wygal is a wonderful author. I love that he uses the Myrtle Beach area for his settings Love reading about places that I have been to
WOW!!!!! This was the best one in the series so far!!!! Finally, Clark has the answers he has been looking for. And, I read this one while on vacation at Myrtle Beach. I really love this series.
2.75 ⭐️ Part of a series and better not as a stand alone book. Many references to things that occurred prior without much explanation for those who haven't read the series.
There are so many culminating pieces of the Clark/Gina story and so many loose ends are tied, I was worried this might be the final installment of the Myrtle Beach Mysteries. Clark finally finds his wife's killer. He and Gina are finally able to be together. Storytelling at its best!
Mr. Wygal ALWAYS leaves me wanting more! It’s difficult to wait for the next book in 2025! Loved All his books. Ties up one or two story lines and introduces some more!
