I did not expect for this to end up being so sad!! Tiny's and Jeanne's reunion, the last goodbye... Absolutely crushed my heart 🥺💔

I wish this series was longer... It was wonderful and bittersweet.

extra kudos for flad finally getting to pet mew!! 😊✨️

This series was such a short wholesome series. I was not expecting the ending to be so sad and honestly I’m not mad at it. Had me tearing up. Would definitely read again 10/10
I just love the relationship between Jeanne and Mew. Jeanne not understanding exactly what a cat is and just writes it off as he’s a weird guardian beast. While Mew just does what his instincts are and that’s to just be a typical cat. 🤣

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this series as a whole! I feel like this volume was rushed to get to the end and left me with questions that I feel another volume or two could have helped develop.

Glad to have finished this series! Things were very chaotic in the final moments getting everything wrapped up. I’m glad there was the epilogue-like section at the very end to make it more of a happy ending versus a bittersweet one. 😅

Kind of felt rushed. But it resolved everything. And there was one or two interesting moments.

So it turns out that the real villain of the story was the Empress Dowager’s dad all along, fuck that guy. Her sad backstory doesn’t excuse the bad things she’s done but I definitely feel for her and can understand how she got to this point.

A sad main story ending with a nice little epilogue, I’m glad everyone gets a happy ending even with Jeanne and Mew leaving the others behind. A satisfying conclusion to the series imo.

In this final volume, the story is wrapped up in one final battle. Jeanne and the Queen have their confrontation, and the sins of the past have to be dealt with to make way for the future. In the end, Mew proves to be the best cat anyone could ask for in any life.

This has been a short and sweet series, with some surprisingly dark twists for what seemed like a simple cozy cat manga. While the fantasy story may not be particularly original, the underlying themes of loneliness and companionship were well drawn, and as a cat manga, it has all the cute cat antics I was looking for. I enjoyed my time with this series!

Wait, did this just show the main story villain being raped at age ten and forced to sleep with everyone her dad wanted throughout her adolescence? That got really dark really quickly.

As Jeanne and Flad and Mew move in to rescue Rue, others are also working on rescue efforts, the Demon King and the Dowager Empress have a showdown with Tiny as collateral, an enemy of elves learns to care for an elf, and King Robbins must find courage to stand up for what is right to save his kingdom.

I love the redemption for Jeanne, and her willingness to sacrifice to save others as well as Mew being Mew. I also liked that Robbins finally found his backbone and is on the path to becoming the king the kingdom needs. And I love how Rue melts hearts and helps heal old wounds with her kindness and compassion. But why in the world did the author throw in that back story of the Dowager Empress? It wasn't necessary for the plot at all, and was rather shocking and disturbing out of nowhere. That took what could have been a 5 star read for me down to 2. I could see if it explained why she is the way she is, but it really didn't. Anyway, at least things ended well. The ending is cute and provides hope for the future for our favorite characters.

Notes on content:
Language: Maybe around 5 minor swears.
Sexual content: The Dowager Empress can hardly keep her chest in her dress for the final showdown, it's rather scandalous. Her back story tells how her dad used her as a bargaining chip with other nations and had her sleep with ambassadors from the age of 10 to "forge better relations". There's a very lurid scene with an older man commenting on her breasts when she's 10 and then it is suggested she sleeps with him. She's shown as an older young woman a few blocks later naked with hair strategically positioned and it is stated roundaboutly about how she sleeps with all these ambassadors. (All of this horrible sexual trafficking for the kingdom info is in pages 121-124 and you can totally skip those pages without missing any important plot points.) It is also mentioned that the Dowager Empress slept around so much she didn't know for sure who Robbins' father was.
Violence: There's a big battle going on and people and fantasy creatures are killed. Most of it is suggested with fighting sounds comic-style. A young adult child stabs a parent to stop more violence during this battle (stabbing and some blood shown). A beloved fantasy creature is killed with only some blood pooling on the ground shown. Someone is crushed by falling parts of the castle in an effort to save someone else (not gory, just sobering).
Ethnic diversity: The humans appear European/Eastern European but it is a fantasy world. At the end one of them appears in the human world as a Japanese person.
LGBTQ+ content: None specified.
Other: A mother rejects her child and doesn't even want to look at him when he's a baby.

The conclusion of the series! As usual, the hint at its ending is in how fat the last volume is compared to the others.

I suspected I would have mixed feelings about it—mostly because the story as a whole felt very strange, since the "cat from our world" barely did anything (typical cat!). Also, the ending felt a little rushed, I think, but that may have been from knowing the book was ending and maybe comparing it to the annoyingly dragged-out final battle of My Hero Academia. I don't think this series would really have benefitted from an extended battle sequence, though.

The denouement drags out a bit, too; it's obvious what will happen, but Mew makes such a big deal about saying "goodbye" that it feels like it misses the point. Time is of the essence, and you made a very un-catlike display of showing people you care about them (haha). I complained about that in the season finale of the Let's Play anime: "WHY ARE YOU STANDING THERE TALKING, YOU NEED TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL" D:

The epilogue is cute, though—, where it declares "they lived in peace, FOREVER." I mean, props if they genuinely did! Heck, I'd LOVE to preserve peace FOREVER! (would have said "preserve today forever" but I worked today, and also the government is being pretty shitty at the moment)

On the whole, an okay series, and okay ending, cute epilogue. Definitely going to confuse complete newcomers, though—start at the beginning!

I wanna say this was a 2 to 2.5 stars. So unfortunately the lowest in the series, not a very satisfying conclusion.

I didn't really enjoy this that much tbh. Maybe it's cause I'm in a reading slump, but I had a lot of issues with this finale. Everything was way too rushed, I definitely feel like there are some unresolved plotlines (we don't even see Jeanne interact with the demon king once), the dialogue had to be my least favorite part though. I found it to be really cringe and unnatural. Whenever something endearing happened the character would just yell at the other being like "Hey what're ya talkin' about I'm not leavin' yet side!! Sheesh. You really are clueless. *anime smirk*" and it pissed me off 😭.

Like a lot of the interactions were just *siigghhsss, irritated remark with affectionate implications* idk it just drove me insane and didn't enjoy the dialogue at all. I would say the best part about this was the artstyle but that wasn't just about to get worse as opposed to the last volumes lol. I also kinda liked the ending, I think having it be sort of a tragic twist was sort of a saving grace for such a rushed ending. And I liked the sort of isekai element as well, I'd actually say that was my favorite part of this volume. So yeah!

Overall, would I recommend this series? I'd say yeah, but I think it was really rushed, kind of all over the place, and I think I would've enjoyed it a lot more/it would've been way better if it was longer and was actually allowed to develop properly. What happens to the demon king? We don't know. Why does Jeanne regain her youth when she gets her powers back? How does she get her powers back?? No idea. This volume didn't explain enough and 5 volumes was not enough

Well that was a sad ending! I thought they’d all end up together in the end, but instead Jeanne absorbed her magic back from the Empress who’d been imbibed with other people’s magic for decades. And then both the Empress and Jeanne end up yeeting off a cliff.

I felt bad for the Empress in the end which surprised me. We find out her disgusting King father was pimping her out to other figureheads in the name of “negotiations” and “civility.” And all she saw was him heaping praise on Jeanne while she was being thrown to the wolves in this way. After all that abuse no wonder the woman went insane! I wish I could see an alternate story where Jeanne and Princess Meadows realize they can be friends as children and support each other… things may have been very different then.

I actually wasn’t going give this a 3 and considered a 2 until it reached the point where we find out the Empress/Princess Meadows’ backstory and Jeanne gets her powers back. Aside from that it was a lot of confusing action shot that were hard to follow and not much story. (I’m not even sure what happened to the Demon King? Did he just take off?)

But the last little bit evened it out and made it all much better. I kind of hope there’s a follow up about Rue & Robbins with some interspliced bits of Jeanne and Mew in our world. I’m unclear as to how they ended up there but I imagine that was how Mew protected her? Instead of them dying they got transported to the human world?

Anyhow, the whole series was a quick, sweet read and I honestly could’ve gone for a longer series with more of the character driven stuff but overall it was a solid 3.5 or 3.75/5 for the whole series.

Not the ending expected, but a rather kind way to wrap things up and turn a tense situation into a new world that is looking up. It's surprising who is in the dungeon with Rue, though it doesn't seem that anyone else understands his presence or what it means. Robbie's actions are especially surprising, but there are more than a few small answers sprinkled through the quick interactions to bring this series to a close. Seems death is not the same in this world either as this seems to be the trigger for switching between worlds, no matter who the character is, though no one in their world of magic seems to expect it outside of summoning. Not the usual connection expected, but puts a positive twist on everything.

Heart wrenching. Devastating. Merciless. Life changing. Wonderful. Magical. A Cat from Our World took me on an emotional journey. I signed up for a fun and friendly adventure and wound up clutching my chest to soothe my heart from all the trauma and pain — but in a good way.

I love love love this series. The characters are all lovable, the story is fun and exciting, and it's really funny—until it's not. But it builds up to that point.

The only manga I can relate it to at this time is Dungeon Meshi, but even then, it's not exactly the same vibe.

Don't be fooled, this is an isekai.

A beautiful and heart breaking end to the series. The King stood up to him mother, the empress turned evil (although I liked the eyes on her when she did), Flad and Mew had a moment. I feel like it was a bit rushed though. I would have like more details or back story to the demon king because he seems quite reasonable. I am glad that Mew stayed with Jeanne and was devastated at the passing of Tiny. Such a great series.

Everything is wrapped up with the Dowager Queen loosing to the Demon King, the deaths of Tiny, the Witch and Mew as King Robbins seeks to rule as a kind monarch. Rue and Flad take over in Jeanne’s tree. However, it looks like she and the hero might have another opportunity to find each other in our world.
