Deadpool is dead, long live Deadpool II, his daughter! Ellie, Princess and Taskmaster, with an assist from trans character Valentine (yes they're back), haven't given up on Wade yet as they seek ways to revive/save him! The fact that the Deadpool creative team is changed so often reveals that Marvel itself knows that it has always struggled to get this character right, and this series continues that tradition; seriously, nothing to see hear! Another Two Star 5 out of 12 for a volume in this season. 2025 read
The loonercy of this book would not work for any character except Deadpool. Having said that these issues stared the saner members of the team/family Deadpool.
Deadpool finally has it all. His two daughters are working with him in the family business. Trained by Taskmaster and with a portion of Deadpool's healing factor Ellie is coming along nicely. If nicely means the life of a merc for hire. This would be a terrible time to get killed. How will the business fare without Deadpool (I would guess better), but how far will Ellie go to avenge and bring her dad back?
I like the dysfunctional family style of the book. I like seeing Ellie's development as a character and her fighting skills. With Deadpool's "death" it really gave the others time to shine. This series is continued in the "Pools of Blood" crossover.
3.5 Stars. ... apparently Death Grip isn't dead! And he kills Wade! But is Deadpool really dead for good? Ellie and Princess continue their "mercs in training" arc, eventually searching out Valentine Vuong, Wade's ex, and getting her to help with some ideas Ellie has about alchemy. This reconnects Wade's soul with his body... but why is his next target Miles Morales!??
Still liking this run of Deadpool. Excited to see where it goes next. Recommend.
Listen, I like Ellie. She was a fun addition to Wade's supporting cast, and I'm glad she's stuck around. I do not, however, think that she's fleshed out enough to take the reins of the main Deadpool book all on her own, even for just a few issues. Her entire personality boils down to 'I want to save my dad', and that becomes kind of repetitive. As much as her banter with Princess amuses me, the middle of this book really drags along, even with the reintroduction of a character I didn't expect to see again so soon (or at all, really). The first and last issues of this collection are the best of the five, by virtue of having Wade and Ellie back together again.
There's also no real impact of Wade's 'death'. Like, Ellie's sad, and that's kind of it. I'm not expecting a whole Marvel Universe spanning DEATH OF DEADPOOL event comic or anything, but it's almost like the characters know that he'll be back before the arc is over so there's no point worrying too much about him, which would be fine if they didn't all insist over and over that Wade's gone and Ellie's being dim for trying to bring him back.
Eh. Extra points for the addition of the character I liked from the last run - otherwise this is more of a 2 star.
I am loving this run so much. Deadpool, Ellie, Taskmaster and Princess all just work so well together and the action is done so well. Great art and a great story are making this such a fun read. Can’t wait to see where the next volume goes, because who hired them to kill Miles and why?!
This was another great volume and I love how this shows Wade being down after a family reunion and things going right for him of sorts and you see the loss of his and how thats impacted Ellie and I love how the focus shifts to her and sort of expands on her character and presenting a daughter whose lashing out and through the course of the volume also evolves as a characters and thats always cool to see!
I love her and Princess going on crazy solo missions be it fighting russian mercenaries and the one here is quite funny or be it vs Modok and seriously the writer writes the best version of MODOK, he is equal parts ridiculous and dangerous you expect him to be and he fits in so well with this book but also seeing the return of a character from the previous volume was surprising in a good way!
I like how by the end it establishes the stakes but brings the father and daughter closer together than ever before literally and teases things to come but the way the book has shifted from Wade and TM carrying out mercenary tasks to a family book and exploring the dad phase of Deadpool has been such a great change and adds to the character in a really good way and makes him compelling as a character than ever before!
I can't wait to read the crossover with Miles next and also that big due fight vs Death's grip is gonna be real good! So I highly recommend this volume!!
I've never wanted to like something more... but this is TIRED.
For, what feels like the 85th time in a Deadpool comic, he's having problems with his healing factor after Death Grip (internalizing the Muramasa blade) chops off Wade's legs and an arm. He 'Professor X's the start of this book, trying to get Deadpool & Daughters off the ground as a merc agency.
If you pull Deadpool out of the book, you're left with VERY underdeveloped characters (was that planned?). Ellie is almost too driven to lead the team. Taskmaster....does nothing. Princess stands by and waits for Ellie to get potentially maimed on every page.
Fast forward... Valentine (and her mystical antlers) are brought back to remind us how close Wade came to having a happy (twisted) ending. I'm still on the fence on how this will ultimately play out. As with most Deadpool arcs, it's a goddamn rollercoaster of highs and lows.
-------- Bonus: Oh look. We have to JUMP START HIS HEALING FACTOR...again Bonus Bonus: I almost feel like Deadpool series do best when they're limited in issues
Ehh, the whole ‘death of Deadpool’ thing is just kinda overdone to be honest… plus they literally brought him back after like 3 issues because Ellie is not an interesting enough character to carry the series, so it was kinda pointless. On top of that, the guy that killed Wade is not even mentioned or shown once after he gets brought back, so I guess they forgot about him or sumn.
I think the Deadpool and Ellie moments are okay, but only Ellie being around isn’t interesting at all for me. Plus, Ziglar just makes every single character way, way too quippy for my tastes, honestly - I prefer when Wade is capable of being serious, but mostly silly while surrounded by only serious people. Those types of stories highlight his comedy the best for me, honestly.
The story seemed like it was going into an okay-ish direction at the end of the last issue, but I’ll likely not continue with this one.
Never a big Deadpool in the comics fan (Deadpool in the movies is another matter), but this run is working pretty well for me so far. I like the team: Ellie, Princess, Taskmaster, and Doug. The humor isn't as tired as it sometimes is. I like the art on this title, too. This configuration's not a classic on the whole, but it's doing what it needs to do.
