Able Pets By Feather Chelle Illustrated by D. Coleman
Meet Rowdy, a spirited puppy with an insatiable curiosity and a heart full of love. Together with his best friend, Dixie, and his beloved human, Rowdy’s days are filled with joyous romps in the grass and triumphant discoveries of hidden treasures—especially his prized pork chop bone, which he keeps buried deep beneath a giant shade tree.
However, as time passes, Rowdy's world begins to change. His sight and hearing fade away, leaving him lost in a world of darkness and silence. Overwhelmed and scared, Rowdy must learn to navigate life in a way he never imagined. With the support of his loving family, he begins to discover new ways to experience the world around him—through the rich smells of the earth, the comforting vibrations of his human’s footsteps, and the tender touches that remind him he’s never truly alone.
" Able Pets" is an uplifting story that shows that even when life changes in unexpected ways, there is still joy to be found in the simple pleasures of love, loyalty, and a good dig in the dirt. Perfect for young readers and families, this beautifully illustrated book written by Feather Chelle and illustrated by D. Coleman is a heartwarming reminder that, with determination and love, we can overcome any challenge.
Join Rowdy on his journey of discovery, and see how even in the darkest times, light can be found in the most unexpected places.
I wasn’t sure what to make of this book at first. It went sad fast. But continuing on with the lovely art work it turned itself around and made me not only feel for the poor old dog but cheer for his bravery and resilience! Highly recommend!
I really enjoy reviewing children’s books because I know the authors have a targeted audience and an awesome story to tell! “Rowdy, by Feather Chelle”, is a wonderful read that’ll make the reader or listener know it’s okay, “to feel scared when things change”, and, “ways to get past those feelings in a positive manner”. In her story, Chelle, uses Rowdy, ‘an older dog who is very vibrant, until he suddenly loses his sight and hearing’. Rowdy is confused at first, and sad, but he’s determined! Over time Rowdy relearns how to use his nose as a primary sense and guide, and regain some normalcy back into his life!
This book made me cry while I was reading, it was so good. Rowdy’s story is a book for kids about disability and chronic illness and how even though life will change for a person (or adorable dog) as they age or get seriously ill or face a serious disability, you adjust and find happiness again on the other side with your new normal. I love how author Feather Chelle has so many books in her collection that talk about disability and chronic illness. This is one of my favorites! 5/5 stars.
Such a cute and heartwarming story about a dog who loses vision over the years. He learns to adapt to these changes in ability and it’s truly touching. I loved this book for my son, but I even loved it for myself. Lovely illustrations and nice range of vocabulary for children to learn.
I read this beautiful story with my granddaughter, and we loved it. Once I had an older dog myself so I could definitely relate to the lady in the story. It's so hard watching your fur baby struggling on a daily basis. Rowdy learns to adapt to his new limits and still finds happiness in life. All pet owners will enjoy reading this wonderful book.
This book about an aging dog who goes blind is very sad but also sweet. It would be good for someone whose beloved dog is nearing the end of their life or experiencing blindness.
The book was awesome tale w illustrations to match! The graceful interpretation of how your best companion may smell the world as age comes. I wanted more interaction from his human!
This lovely story about a dog who goes blind but overcomes is simply endearing. The illustrations are sweet and appropriate. This is a great story of resilience!
