A tragic ferry disaster… a ghostly victim… and the truth hidden in haunting photographs.

As the mortician at The Economic Undertaker, Phoebe and her undertaker brothers, Julius and Ambrose, find themselves inundated with victims from a ferry disaster on the river. But when a victim, Mrs Elizabeth Rowe, appears to Phoebe and insists she did not die on the ferry, but her killer hopes it will appear as such, Phoebe is compelled to help.

Passing the information on to her beau, Detective Harland Stone, it soon turns out all is not as it appears, especially when photographs taken by Phoebe’s friend, Kate, tell a different story. It is a time of flurry for the Astin family, who believe being dead is no excuse for letting a crime go unpunished.

Ideal for fans of Deanna Raybourn, Cara Devlin, Irina Shapiro, and Wendy Vella.

Love this family

It was good to catch up with the Astin family, the Vexed Vixens, and a few new characters as well. Really a twisty mystery which had me guessing until the last page. Additionally the family mystery with Uncle Reggie was explained, giving us a little more backstory into the history of the family. Truly enjoyed this one. I'm looking forward to many more - and the next wedding, whoever it is!

Always a joy!

It’s a happy day when I can dive into a new Lady Mortician story. Love the characters, love that it’s set in my ‘backyard’ of Brisbane, and that I discover a new little piece of history each time I read one of Ms Goltz’s historical murder mysteries. Can’t wait to see what mystery Phoebe stumbles into next time.

I found this book to be interesting due to the pace and twists it took. I read it in one sitting without a notice! The people we know all work so well together, the case/cases got solved with life and humor included.

Another great installment with the Astin family of The Economic Undertakers.
This series is a delightful bunch of characters, mixed with family and friends and a mystery in every edition. They're great for a quick read and a visit with familiar characters.

Twist and turns

I will miss Kate though I felt Ambrose was too boyish for her. The mysteries were fun to sort out.
