About a few days ago I saw this book go free and thought it must’ve been a sign from the universe telling me to read it as I was intrigued by the blurb and was just waiting for a price drop. I wasn’t really wowed over by the story or characters but one thing’s clear: I would not be opposed to reading more books from this author. She has a very easy to get into writing style and this book was a great ‘taste test’ for me. My main problems were with the plot content and not author technicalities like writing style so I’m very interested in reading other books from her. With this story, I liked the premise – how one damaged girl escapes from her past, creates a whole new future, but her past catches up to her again – but a lot of events that happened made me scratch my head in confusion…like the logistics were really all over the place with this one. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Starting from the beginning...
Before the heroine was Andra Walker, a confident carefree woman who valued being able to have choices and her freedom, seven years ago she was Cora Mitchell, a helpless, abused teenager with nowhere to hide and every reason to run. And she did. With the help of an old family friend, Six, Cora became Andra and ditched her old life. Now living and working as a ranch hand and surrounded by friends she’s come to love, Andra is content with her new life.
But things start to shake up as the hero – who’s a well-known author – Julian Jameson arrives and plans on staying in one of the cabins near Andra’s place to draw inspiration for his writing from the lush scenery and solitude. When they meet, it’s pretty much insta-lust and they go through mushy dates and all with loads of buildup, and just when Andra’s starting to fall for this guy and he with her, the suspense aspect kicks in and all of sudden, Andra’s life gets turned upside down again as her past comes back.
I think this is one of the very rare times where my feelings for the plot, the characters, and overall execution of the story are all unanimously the same: this book was OK. I didn’t hate it, but didn’t love it. I didn’t particularly like the characters together; there just wasn’t enough time in the book dedicated to their relationship development and it was surprising to me that how a girl like Andra could go on bluntly rejecting other guys in her life for 7 years but has no problem falling head over heels for the hero in less than 2 weeks.
Another thing that was sort of a logical fallacy in my mind was why, after seven years now, she still needed to run and hide. She ran from her guardian in the past but now that she’s older than 18 she has no legal reason to return to her old home even if she were discovered…and there was also a twist in the book where Six and Andra revisited her old house and the motive behind that I 100% cannot fathom at all . In fact, the suspense part just totally fell flat for me and I didn’t see the point of Six repeatedly taking Andra off the ranch because nothing happened.
I did enjoy the writing and because there’s this underlying feeling that something bad will happen somewhere in the story, I couldn’t stop flipping the pages. If I hadn’t been traveling, this is a book I would’ve finished in one sitting. I have to say though…this author managed to surprise me with the blurb and book title because the ‘he’ was not who I was expecting at all.
He Found Me is the first book in a 2 book series and not a standalone. The ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger but leaves you feeling full of hope and not desolation, so I was okay with it.

I love a book with some suspense and angst thrown in. If done right, It adds that extra bit that makes putting a book down that much harder. For me, it must be balanced out with a decent amount of romance-it can't be overpowered by drama. This balancing act is a tricky thing. If you veer too much in one direction, it may leave some readers disappointed. That's why books that seem to be pieced together with multiple things: suspense, sweet romance, angst, a little mystery, and passion-they don't always achieve that book that has a little something for everybody. I was so impressed with this author's ability to equally delve into each category just the right amount while making the characters seem real and genuine. I was honestly blown away by her writing style-it was vividly striking. Beautifully descriptive in just the style that pulls me into the story and allows me to escape into another world.
This is the story of Cora Mitchell (Andra) and her escape from a life that was a pain filled nightmare caused by tragic events. Her life was made up of two parts: the before and the after. Before, she was a happy, well adjusted girl who had love and support from her mother. After, she was lost, abused, lonely, numb, and living a life that seemed to have no escape. One night changes everything though. With the help of an old friend of her mother's, a man she looks at as an older brother, she leaves the hell her life has become and disappears.
She becomes Andra. A complete loner, unable to form attachments or build relationships. It's her protection against her past catching up with her, but also her protection of herself. After all she's been through, she's unable to risk getting hurt anymore. She's holding herself together, but she's still having nightmares several years later and unable to let go of the fear that one day, the monster will find her. If that happens, her life would be over. Would it really be fair to drag someone into her life?
There was a darkness in my soul, abused innocence. My darkness was mine alone to carry; I didn't want to burden anyone else with it.
From page one, I felt the anxiety, unease, and foreboding that comes with walking in Andra's shoes. She goes through a series of events that most people would be defeated from. But she's a survivor and I loved her strength and her lack of wallowing in her circumstances. She's a great match for our hero, Julian. He was sweetly romantic, handsome and persistent, and the type of person that is only challenged by the word no.
There was no doubt I was drawn to him, drawn to the subdued power in his eyes, in his words.
He has an air of mystery about him as well. Something wasn't adding up about him and at some points I just knew there was more there than what was on the surface. She tries pushing him away like all the others that have tried to get close to her, he's not having it. Not in a pushy, alpha way. More in a gentle and tender way. And considering that's not something she's had since she lost her mom, she soaked it up like a sponge and couldn't avoid him for very long.
He seems to understand her effortlessly and naturally and they have a powerful attraction that only grows by the day. The feelings that grow between them is built haltingly but sweetly. I loved their dates and the extra effort he put into making her feel special. I fell for them: their wit and introspection, their fragile and tender bond, and the passion that was entirely evident in all their interactions.
My mouth was insatiable, desperate. I had never needed physical touch so intensely, so frequently. I didn't know what these impulses were from, or why I acted upon them, but in this moment there was no room in my head for anything but Julian.
I knew something bad was going to happen and the whole time I was waiting nervously for that moment. The suspense snowballed-I don't think there was anything that was getting me to put down my Kindle at that point.
Yes, the book does end in a cliffy-but we're left in the last moment with some relief that things will be right in her world again. It was definitely manageable. I was completely pulled into this story and these character's lives. This book is so worth the time invested in it-I can't imagine anyone coming away disappointed. I can't wait for the conclusion!

Our main character, Cora Mitchell starts this story with an exciting escape from her abusive and dangerous uncle. Her deceased mother’s old friend assists her in making Cora Mitchell vanish that evening.
"My life was a series of real-life nightmares. But tonight, I'd leave everything. Leave Cora Mitchell behind in search of freedom."
Cora is gone, she's just a missing person and a cold case. Cora has been living and working on a ranch under the name of Andra Walker with a great cast of characters who care about her and give her peace in the beauty of this landscape.
When a young hot author arrives for his one month stay in one of the cabins these two have an instant attraction. Andra makes it clear that she is a one night stand type of girl while Julian wins her over date by date. Her reasons for not getting close are really very simple.
”Yes, it was true that I didn’t believe in spending time with someone in the long run because I couldn’t take the constant lying.”
Julian and Andra's relationship was a lot of fun to read. They get closer and closer and Andra is truly happy.
”Being around Julian was like being alive. I was more aware of my heart beating, challenged to evaluate myself, and I laughed so often my cheeks hurt.”
The story’s mystery and action doesn’t end in the first chapter because it seems her uncle has been searching for her and she is not safe in Colorado.
Overall, this was a great debut novel that does indeed end with a cliffhanger with the next and final installment due this coming September.

3.5--He Found Me--Stars!!
The story begins with 17 year old Cora escaping from the abusive uncle she lived with after the death of her mother. With the help of her "brother", Six, Cora goes in to hiding and eventually takes on a new identity as Andra.
The story picks up seven years later. Andra is now living in Colorado and works on a ranch/bed and breakfast. There she meets Julian, an author staying at the ranch for a month while his new house is built.
Andra makes it clear that she's not looking for a relationship. Allowing anyone to get close will lead to lies about her past and who she really is.
But Julian breaks down her walls date by date.
While, the story really only spans over less than two weeks it didn't feel too insta-love-ish. Though it clearly was. It was definitely insta-lust.
There were some good twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. Some I cared for, some I didn't. There appears to be more to Andra's past, her mother's death and her uncle.
And just as Andra finally takes a chance on someone, her past catches up with her. Will Andra ever be able to live without fear? Live in the open? Love without secrets?
WARNING! CLIFFHANGER ALERT!
Hmm, how to address this cliffhanger? Did it make me want to rage? No. Did it make me want to beat my head on the wall? No. Did it make me growl in frustration? Yes.
Honestly, with a bit more detail this could have been one book. It probably should have been one book. I'm scared to read the next book. WTH could happen for a whole nother book? Yes, there are definite loose ends...but a whole book to wrap them up?
So, with that being said...I did like this one. Had a little bit of everything....though not enough sex! :)

2.5 TO 3 STARS
I know my rating doesn't imply I loved this, but at the same time I really liked some parts. In general, this was 'okay-good' and if I'm being honest, a little underwhelming. Maybe it's because I came off reading Nine Minutes, by Beth Flynn that my next read was doomed from the start. I don't know, but I'll try and summarize my thoughts.
The premise drew me in. A 17 year old girl runs away from living under years of torment and abuse at the hands of her gaurdian. Seven years later, 'Andra' is living and working quietly under a false identity and happy with her life. She cares about those she works with at a ranch in Colorado, is friends with the ranch hands and owner, but ultimately keeps to herself. Romance is non-existent for Andra but that's by choice. But when a famous writer comes to the ranch everything changes. Andra begins to feel things she never thought possible with the elusive Julian Jameson, and soon realizes that her life is once again in danger.
So, the good stuff: this was sweet, had a nice element of suspense and did mange to keep me on my toes a few times. The romance was tender and Julian was great.
So, my issues: I couldn't really connect with the main characters. I never felt that empathy for Andra and had a hard time accepting some choices she'd made. She came across as distant, remote and hard to understand. The writing was okay but again, there was no connection for me. At times I felt like the narrative was delivered like described video, it almost lacked passion or emotion.
The book also lagged in several areas, getting caught up in the mundane descriptions of insignificant things. Also, I couldn't understand why Andra was still hiding as an adult(she's 23), hopefully this will be touched on in the next book but she's no longer a minor, so what gives?
But despite my issues, this was still a decent read. There seems to be things the author is holding back on till the next book, important things, that will hopefully be explained and account for all the mystery in this one. Regardless, this was a suspenseful and sweet romance and I'm planning to read the second book 'He Saved Me' which will conclude this story.

My feelings are conflicted with this one. Something was missing/off for me.
Cora left the "Monster" when she was 17. There's not much we are told of him except he sexually abused her for many years, and he is her uncle. Cora's mom and aunt are both deceased. With the help of her mom's friend, Six, she was able to escape, running through the woods. Always running through the woods...
Seven years later and she's in Colorado, working on a ranch, and going by Andra. She harbors the secret of her past and who she really is, and doesn't form relationships with people, understandably so. Rosa is the owner of the ranch and knows the truth. She was a friend/confidant/mother figure.
Julian is a author staying in a cabin on the ranch for a month. His genre of writing? Mystery. Andra and Julian meet and it's insta lust. Like insta-insta. She says she doesn't form attachments, but she does very quickly with him. They goes on a couple dates and he does his best to charm her. One thing I did like is the witty comments and banter these two have.
But Julian is not exactly who you think he is. He's definitely a writer, but he's got his own little bomb he drops.
And more is what I wanted. After he drops his bomb, it's like "meh" and they are cool. Right when things seem "ok", they aren't. When she should feel safe, she isn't.
The ending does end on a cliffy, and I have several questions.

KAPOW! GREAT DEBUT BY WHITNEY BARBETTI
Holy Moly, from the very start I was gripped by an edge-of-my-seat intensity in this storyline that continued until the very end. Put romance + suspense together and more times than not it will = my favorite kind of story.

Readers don’t get a lot of background on him or Six’s character in this installment. I’m yearning to know the secrets behind these two characters that will have readers glued to the pages seeking answers.

...A remarkable debut, I loved this book beyond words.
It was beautifully crafted and written. I couldn't put it down, from the very first word to the very last, I was hooked. Completely. The descriptions and character's and emotions were first class, second to none.
I seriously hope they'll be more, there has to be more, and soon. Please.

This book had everything I love in my stories. I hope I give it the review it deserves.
A strong, kind heroine. A protective hero who know what he wants and let the woman he cares for know it.
In the beginning you are immediately engaged in the story. In the heroine’s story. The fight, the struggle, I felt it all.
SHE escapes the Monster. A Monster who has controlled her live for a long time. With the help of a friend, Six, she is able to escape. “Andra” finds herself working in a cabin resort. There she is finally able to get away from the abuse. She makes friends and is able to live free…finally, but for how long before she must run again? One day, a guest checks in to rent the cabin for a month. Julian is kind, gentle, and hot. However, Andra really does not want a relationship, she finally found peace and freedom. She does not want any complications that involve being with a man. However, Julian is very persistent and soon Andra realizes he is unlike anyone she has ever met.
“You are like a drug to me. Dangerous. Addicting. I can’t get enough of you.”
Chapter after chapter the flow of the story was controlled and engaging. There was a lot of depth. Beautifully emotional and real. There were no wasted words. The connection was felt. My favorite scene…the date at the restaurant. I love scenes like that. Well actually there are a few others, but I do not want to give anything away.
“You’re a puzzle to me. All the pieces that make up you are – they intrigue me.”
I loved the suspense. I love the semi-cliffy in this book. So many questions I want answered now!!!??? Cannot wait to see what happens.

Oh, WTF?? I had no idea this was a series/more than one book. I didn't even like it much but with that cliffhanger, now I'm going to have to read the next one to find out how it all goes down...sigh.

Intense and emotional, He Found me is a fantastic read. It sucked me in from the first page and kept my attention to the very last word. A great debut for Whitney Barbetti!
He Found Me tells the story of Cora Mitchell, an abused girl who tries to find herself and escape from the Monster. The prologue of the story presents Cora’s existence at 17, existence because she doesn’t have a life. Abused for years by her uncle, The Monster, she is a lost, damaged girl. With the help of a friend of her deceased mother, she runs, leaving Michigan and moving in Colorado in a different home. She is scared, alone without family or friends but she is eager to become somebody else, somebody free who has a life and choices. So she becomes Andra Walker.
The flood of emotions were stronger than anything I’d felt. Until he found me, seven years later.
Seven years passed and Cora Mitchell, now Andra Walker is still damaged. She lives on a ranch with Rosa and Clint, the owners and other employees. She lives in a cabin now and she is content with her simple life, but she thinks her inside is still dark. A lonely girl, she doesn’t build any kind of relationship with anybody, not even a romantic one. She doesn’t let people in because it’s easier.
My Darkness was mine alone to carry; I didn’t want to burden anyone else with it.
Julian Jameson is a twenty-five mystery writer. He becomes the new guest on the ranch when he rents one of the cabins for a month. Julian is kind and sweet, beautiful and hot and he wants to know more about Andra. He is kind of mysterious from the start, but he is like this because like Andra he has a secret.

Slowly Andra’s barriers are broken by Julian, but she isn’t scared because with him she fells safe and the relation with Julian is healing her. With him she feels alive.
What I love most about this book was the writing. Fluid and flawless, the writing was fantastic and the author’s choice of words to describe some emotions is really great.
The premise of the book is nothing new, but the author, with her words and emotional descriptions creates a great story. Told from Andra’s POV, the story has two time frames, before, when Andra’s life was only The Monster and after, where she tries to make a life for herself, has a home and friends.
Julian's secret was not something big or wow, but in some way helped the MC relation. He Found Me is not a suspense romance, but the suspense elements are great and make the story a interesting one.
This read was not about plot, was more about characters and Andra character is really well developed. In some way I understand her choice to isolate herself to protect others and I admire her strength and bravery. I loved Andra and Julian together. It was amazing the type of connection they were able to develop in nine days. Their relationship is sweet and beautiful and their connection and sexual chemistry, palpable from the start are amazing. Love their interaction and how their relationship progressed.
I was no longer handicapped by secrets. I was free. And it was all because of Julian.
With a little suspense and angst, this was a great read. Can’t wait for the next book!

He Found Me follows the story of Cora Mitchell. For years she lived with The Monster. The Monster was her abusive uncle that she was sent to live with after her mother died. Finally at the age of seventeen, she sets a plan in motion and leaves. With some help from her mother's friend, she is able to start a new life. But this freedom comes at a cost. She has a new name: Andra Walker, and fake history. She never lets anyone get close to her or know the truth about who she really is. Her new life is great, but is so lonely.......Everything was perfect until Julian came along. Cora felt a connection to him immediately. And that scares her so much because she's never felt way before. She knows she should stay away, but can't. She finds herself wanting to open up and tell him things about her past, that Andra isn't real....But, as she gets closer to Julian, the past is starting to close in on her. Will The Monster be able to find her???

I felt like I was right there in the story with her and holding my breath, hoping that she would have the chance at a normal life.
I loved Julian. He's kind, sweet, and a little mysterious. From their first meeting, they are drawn to one another and start this wonderful relationship. He is just what "Andra" needs in her life. He breaks down her walls and shows her that she does deserve love and that relationships aren't bad. This is one of my favorite quotes from when Julian and Andra first start seeing one another: “He sighed and moved his hands under water, linking with mine. “You are like a drug to me. Dangerous. Addicting. I can’t get enough of you.” He brought our hands above water and kissed one of my hands, linked with his. “But I want more, more than just a night, more than just a few touches. And I have a feeling that once we cross that line, you will run away." If I wasn't already hooked on this book before, that moment right there, definitely did it for me.
He Found Me had a great mystery aspect. I loved trying to figure out what was going on in the story and finding the answers to the questions that I had. The last few chapters had me holding my breath and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I am going to warn you that this book does end on a really great cliffhanger. I Loved this book!! I'm not a big reader but when this little gem came along I could not stop ( well life did, but i read every chance I could)I loved how she was so descriptive and I could visualize it all. I enjoyed andra and Julian relationship and the mystery of this book. Way to go, can't wait to read more from you.

How does he know who she is and has he led the Monster to her doorstep? Can Andra be saved from the Monster or has her time hiding finally come to an end? She lives with a Monster, one of the worse kind. Having no blood relatives kept her in place with this man, children services turns a blind eye apparently.
Changing her identity is a success with the help of a male named Six. She took up residence in Colorado, on a ranch to be exact. The people there becoming her family. Especially Rosa who is as close to a mother
that Andra will ever have. She loves the ranch not only the beauty but she feels safe being thousands of miles away from Michigan. One nighters is all she'll offer and is up front about it, skip the pleasantries and dive right in. Yeah, really. Oh, who cares. The only people that know who she is of course is Six and Rosa therefore her whole life would be a lie to another person which she couldn't bring herself to do. They would never know Cora, they could never, not while the Monster was still out there.
Then our hero comes along, sexy tease himself. Yes I'm pissed, all Julian's are hot, this one no less, he just needs to use more of his body than his mouth, it's not his fault his creator made him a tease, at least she offered up sexy grins and sweet whispers, threw in some neck licks to top it all and it about drove me nuts! I was begging out loud "Just do something, puh~leez!" Hopefully she made sure he delivers in book #2. I don't see him being no Jameson Kane or anything(hell no) but I know he's got something, he's named Julian for God sakes! Don't bust my Julian theory!

She fascinates Julian not to mention she's beautiful. They were wonderful. I loved all the TEASING between them! *cough* almost. Her character was strong yet deep inside she was terrified. But sexy Julian intends to woo her. They eat together. Camp together. Dance.

If you're going into this book thinking that it'll be full of twists and turns, put the book down now. If you're looking for a romance, you're in the right place!
The first few pages had me hooked. It starts off with our main character, Cora (soon to be Andra) escaping her rapist uncle. Interested? I sure was. Especially with that title, it's got to be good! Except, that's all he really does. There are a few flashbacks, but nothing that furthers the plot. Once Cora becomes Andra, she's moved on. Her whole focus is on this new guy she meets, Julian. She talks about being emotionally traumatised by The Monster, but it's only words. It's never explored, she seems to live a perfectly happy, healthy life. The book takes a completely new direction - not a bad one, just not what I felt like I was promised.
If we're looking at this like the romance it really is, it's actually pretty good. Julian is so sweet, and the banter between these two is adorable. His dates are incredibly creative. On the second one, they went camping for the night. Plus, there was the looming deadline of our resident writer leaving the ranch and going home, which made the love between them even sweeter. She mostly just wanted to sleep with him, but he was looking for an actual relationship, and was willing to fight for it. Which was a cool reversal from so many other books! If this was written as a romance, I would be in love. But it was written as a suspenseful abuse-focused book, which it wasn't at all. I'm really disappointed!
The first few pages had me hooked. It starts off with our main character, Cora (soon to be Andra) escaping her rapist uncle. Interested? I sure was. Especially with that title, it's got to be good! Except, that's all he really does. There are a few flashbacks, but nothing that furthers the plot. Once Cora becomes Andra, she's moved on. Her whole focus is on this new guy she meets, Julian. She talks about being emotionally traumatised by The Monster, but it's only words. It's never explored, she seems to live a perfectly happy, healthy life. The book takes a completely new direction - not a bad one, just not what I felt like I was promised.
If we're looking at this like the romance it really is, it's actually pretty good. Julian is so sweet, and the banter between these two is adorable. His dates are incredibly creative. On the second one, they went camping for the night. Plus, there was the looming deadline of our resident writer leaving the ranch and going home, which made the love between them even sweeter. She mostly just wanted to sleep with him, but he was looking for an actual relationship, and was willing to fight for it. Which was a cool reversal from so many other books! I was hooked from the beginning. I love intense beginnings! The story was a perfect mix of romance and suspense - my two favorites! I felt every feeling Cora/Andra felt. I finished this in less than 2 days, and if I'd had it my way, I would have read it non stop, start to finish! The suspense had me on the edge of my seat! I was reading it every spare second I could manage! I am very anxiously waiting for book #2! Fantastic book, beautifully written!!

I loved this book!!!!!!!! I was hooked from the first page on. I love the way Whitney was very descriptive with her words bc I felt like I could imagine everything she was talking about. The only thing I hated, was the CLIFFHANGER! UGGG!!! I want to read more right away! I can't wait for book number 2!

I ADORED this book. And I can't wait for more! At one specific part of the story my blood ran cold and I got dizzy. So well-written, so beautiful, so descriptive without being convoluted. Loved it. The next one comes out tomorrow, right?

Lots of suspense, but I kept thinking how implausible the whole thing was. Once she was 18 and a legal adult, why couldn't they go to the authorities? I understand Six might have gotten in trouble, but I would think they could make up a story about where she'd been and what she'd done that didn't incriminate any of the folks who'd helped them along the way. Anyway, this book wasn't for me. Others love it so probably just me.
