Nettie's exhausted. Maybe working overtime to pay for her dream of becoming a nurse wasn't such a great idea. Between school, family, and baking spelled scones, she's falling apart.
Until an alpha wolf billionaire walks into the bakery where she works.
Conner came into Magickal Morsels to find a spelled scone to help him finally close a lucrative deal with a reluctant CEO. He's irritated. Furious, even. The wolf shifter almost doesn't notice the pretty woman behind the counter. But then he takes a bite, and suddenly, she consumes his thoughts.
Did she give him a love spell? Because, if so, there are going to be big problems. She'll either ruin his deal or break his heart.
The heartwarming novel Spelled Scones transports readers to a small town where a grumpy character and a sunny personality collide, creating a delightful romantic dynamic. With its cozy setting and guaranteed happily ever after, this book is a must-read for romance lovers.

😔 Everything felt way too off, I had the constant feeling that come to the editing part, every other chapter was deleted, idk the book lacked continuity, nothing make sense in terms of characters behavior like: - the FMC goes out one night with her bff and she barely wanted to order a glass of water as she's in a *financial situation* the next evening she says fuck it and goes out for dinner at the restaurant.
just the writing in general? it felt really odd I don't even know how to describe it 🤷♀️
While I liked the concept and characters, and it was a fun enough time, the story felt underdeveloped and disjointed. The romance felt abrupt, and some of their progression didn’t make sense to me. I have enjoyed all the other books I’ve read from this author though, so I strongly suggest reading her other books even if this one doesn’t work for you!
This was153 pages of garbage. Shallow characters, too much exposition, disjointed dialogue... Side characters that I'm pretty sure she forgot even existed... For a novella about a bakery they spend more time ANYWHERE besides the bakery. And oh my God...we get it. You're poor. Move on.
And could we not with the "Those won't fit me, baby" thing? You'd be amazed at how well those things stretch.
And the puppies question. Ma'am. You're a witch. How do you not know where werewolf babies come from?
Such a disappointment. She does a great job hooking you in on TikTok, and the cover art is stunning, but it's probably AI generated so there's that.
This was such a great, short novel to kick off the month. I loved the little meet cute between Netti and Connor. It takes him a while to realize it, but his wolf is smarter than he thinks. Netti works at the bakery and is going to nursing school, balancing work and life like we all do.
Connor is in this small town for a business meeting and is looking for a treat to help him stay focused. But instead of helping him with his meeting he can't stop thinking about the girl at the bakery with the pink hair. He soon realizes that this is bigger than spelled scones.
This was such a cute, fast paced, magical read. I loved the instant chemistry between Connor and Netti. This book has a great combination of fantasy (witches and wolf shifters) and modern day. I also loved that Netti's little familiar, Honey the fruit bat, rides around in her bun like a cute little accessory, perfectly witchy!
I highly enjoyed this lovely novella on audiobook, narrated by Claire Marlowe and Harley Chase and ran to go review it asap.
Spellbound Scones is perfect for an afternoon read or listen! I instantly loved Nettie, her quirkiness, and her drive to do right. Conner was frustrating with his stubbornness, but I loved his conversations with his Wolf. He came through in the end, and I loved his adoration for Nettie. This witch x wolf shifter paranormal romance has a great instant connection, perfect grumpy/sunshine vibes and rounds of with the best kind of HEA. The duet narration by Harley and Claire was such a delight! Fleur Devillainy’s writing is beautiful, flows easily, and translates so well into audio! You don’t want to miss this book!
Spellbound Scones is the perfect combination of cozy, spicy, and sweet. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series!
This novella is horrendously written. There could not have been an editing process. From misspelling to run on sentences that become their own paragraphs, it will have you fighting to get to the next page.
My biggest issue with this novella is the way the author bought every one of their positive reviews. From goodreads to booktok the reviews surrounding this book are as ridiculous as this novella.
The general idea for this novella is great but the author put more than triple the amount of hours gaining false reviews than she did writing it.
This was described as hallmark sweet, insta-love novella. To everyone complaining it's too short - DUH its a novella! It's actually pretty long for a novella.
I LOVED this, it was absolutely adorable, the characters were likeable, super grumpy wolf shifters and a relatable bakery witch. The writing was beautiful and flowy - it's really well written!! I'm looking forward to whenever she releases the sequel book!
2.3 ⭐️ fun premise, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Connor is sort of an oblivious shifter who doesn’t like communicating with anyone, his brother, his mate. And Netti was a decide idea of a character without being fleshed out at all. Like how the flavor of La Croix is the memory of the thought of the fruit 😂
Whew, trope central! There’s creepy guy behavior and very “romance-novel” phrasing galore (e.g. she padded to the kitchen), but I think I’m somewhat falling for DeVillainy’s sweet, cozy novellas. Now that I know what I’m getting into — and it helps having a boring day with a sick partner at home.
I appreciated Netti’s more relatable situation over Connor’s fantastical one — it made him the escapism for us, while she’s filling that role for him. There was more here to do with the fated mates trope; like Netti’s pride feeling “lucky” to be bonded to Connor’s success, but not having contributed to it, or something along those lines. None of that is explored.
And, I like the frankness of DeVillany’s writing, but wish she’d be confident enough to forego some of the shoe-horned clichés. She definitely has the narrative capacity to do more.
Overall: Sometimes it’s good to know what you’re getting, even if it’s not great. That said, I will be shelving Carter’s story for a bit. This was a nice palette cleanser.
Netti is close to completing nursing school but despite working extra shifts at the enchanted bakery, the elemental witch remains plagued by financial woes. Her world is uprooted when a handsome but grumpy shifter’s spelled scones order does not go according to plan.
After being consumed by thoughts of the baker, Conner is convinced she’s placed a spell over him, threatening a lucrative business deal. Or is the universe trying to tell him something?
Tropes: 👀 Dual POV ✨ Witch FMC 🐺 Wolf shifter MMC 🌦️ Grumpy/Sunshine 🏘️ Small town romance 💫 Magical bonds & spells 💕 HEA 🌶️: Moderate
Conner is quite the snack but can this billionaire workaholic keep his alpha nature leashed for long?
Are you craving a delicious small town paranormal romance between a quirky witch and broody wolf shifter? Well, now you can treat yourself to this short, sweet, and spicy standalone. The banter, tension, and chemistry is irresistible. Come for the pastries, stay for the “Good girl.” 🤭
Huge thanks to the author for the ARC opportunity! This is my honest and voluntary review.
If you are looking for a cute paranormal novella with a little holiday twist then look no further than Spellbound Scones!
If you like Paranormal Romance with Witches, Wolf Shifters, Grumpy x Sunshine, Meet Cute, Fated Mates and so much more this one is for you!
Netti is a witch that just so happens to be an aspiring nurse working at a bakery when a Connor comes into her life. Connor was just looking for something to help him focus when he stumbled into the bakery Netti works at. But now he and his wolf can’t get her off his mind and Connor is convinced Netti put a spell on him. But little does he know there is more pulling them together.
Netti is working herself to the bone going to school and trying to make ends meet. Connor is a successful businessman, who also doesn’t let himself have a break, that is in town trying to secure a new deal. But the more Connor tries to stay away from Netti, much to his wolf’s dismay, bad things keep happening.
Connor tries to deny his feelings for Netti but everything keeps coming back to her. She is about to accept an offer to set her future up for success but will Connor pull his head out of his ass before it is too late?
The cover art was really what sold me. Whoever designed it is super talented. But other than that, it was okay. I didn’t really get a sense that there was any actual conflict whatsoever. If the MC is that broke that when she goes out, she can only get water, why is she going to a restaurant like the next day? There are so many plot holds that could’ve been expanded upon, even given the novella format
i read this expecting a funny 3 star book and that's what i got... until chapter 13... I'll preface this with i don't really do paranormal romance but i also occasionally see a cover and use a "why not" usually they are short like this but yea... long break before the next time i read one of these.. not a bad book just not my cup of tea
The story was cute and a quick read. But there were a lot of problems with the plot, and characters had revelations and then seemingly forgot they had them? Things happen which should have more consequences or action taken, but then they just become a throw away? The timeline of events is also all over the place- for instance, we meet one character and then the FMC goes to dinner that evening with them and says they’ve known each other for 2 days?
If you need to hit a reading goal this is an easy read, and it had a lot of potential, but other than that I don’t think it was that good.
I was originally planning to do a full, more elaborate review of this novella. But you know what…this book stole enough of my peace given that I’m still mad a whole day after finishing it so I’m giving it the minimal effort it gave me. 💀
This was another case of TikTok marketing goofing me and my flabbers are absolutely gasted. I am going to start by saying that my own personal grievance is fantasy books with character names that are super generic ESPECIALLY when they’re non-human characters. Color me shocked after uncovering that the wolf-shifter twins are named CONNOR and CARTER. 😤 I’ll be real, it was probably my own fault. It probably said in the book description at least Connor’s name since he’s the mmc. Like I said, my own personal grievance.
My bigger issue with this book was the…how do I phrase this?? Obsession with detail. Listen, I am a reader who also happens to have aphantasia. If you don’t know what that is, basically I cannot picture things in my head at all. So I do rely heavily on detail in books to really pull me in. HOWEVER, this book felt like word soup. The amount of adjectives to describe every single TINY morsel of items was…an experience for sure. I’ve included a lil snippet that really had me rolling my eyes and asking WHY WHAT DOES THIS GIVE TOWARDS THE PLOT!?! The most surprising part of all was how we somehow still managed to have the entire story fall flat with all the unnecessary detail.
Overall, how do I feel? The “romance” gave me whiplash, the timeline was unclear, there would be jumps in time between chapters that weren’t well communicated, and I still have barely any idea what actually happened. Respectfully, I wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy.
From the moment I opened Spellbound Scones, I was all in. This cozy paranormal romance delivers humor, magic, passion, and those small moments that stay with you long after the ending.
Netti is an absolute gem. She is a hardworking witch trying to balance nursing school and life (as an actual nurse this was 1000000% relatable), struggling but never giving up. There’s something so endearing about her resilience, her warmth, and how her magic feels like it’s rooted in who she is, not just what she can do. The bakery setting, her spells, and the everyday magic of running in a small town make the world feel alive.
Then there’s Connor, the lone wolf shifter (and billionaire) who walks into her bakery looking for a “spelled scone” for his business deal and ends up biting off way more than he intended. Their chemistry is electric, their banter sparkly, and watching him come to terms with what he wants (and what he can’t deny *insert inner wolf banter*) is such a satisfying arc.
I adored the plot mix of spells gone wrong (or is it real magic *wink, wink*), business deals, small town charm, real life struggles, running from the past, and the tension of “is this real or just enchanted?” The pacing is quick, which is perfect for bingeing in one sitting (which I did), and the ending!!!!! Yes, yes, yes. The happily ever after felt earned and was so sweet (like a well deserved pastry).
If you love witches, shifters, and “enchant me” vibes in a cozy romance with sass and spice, Spellbound Scones will absolutely cast a spell on you. I’m officially a fan of Fleur DeVillainy and can’t wait to see what she does next… (Midnight Macarons has entered the chat)
Spellbound Scones by Fleur DeVillainy is a super cute contemporary fantasy romance novella. We meet Netti, a witch training to be a nurse and Connor, a billionaire CEO wolf shifter. What could possibly go wrong?!
This short, sweet novella pulled out all the stops when it comes to fate mates, small town romance and grumpy x sunshine tropes. The universe was definitely routing for Connor and Netti even when Connor couldn’t see it himself. When everything started to go wrong for him, I was torn between wanting to feel sorry for him and scream at the book, ‘Can’t you see she’s meant for you!!!’
The pace and story line of this book were on point and I found myself not wanting to put it down. The spice was hot with one scene being super steamy and another scene getting so heated and then had me wanting to scream at the author! @fleur you know what I’m talking about!
If you’re after a quick easy read with a bit of spice, this is going to be right up your street. You will not be disappointed 🥰
✨My Review of Spellbound Scones Has Arrived (Freshly Baked & Lightly Bewitched) 🫖💕
👑 Trope: ★★★★☆ “Grumpy meets sunshine” with a touch of witchy charm? Yes please! This magical romance whisks you away to a cozy little town where sparks fly fast and spicy tension brews faster than my morning coffee. It’s charming, clever, and wrapped in the most delicious of tropes.
🌶️ Spice: ★★★★☆ Let’s just say… the heat starts early, and it does not disappoint. Chemistry? Off the charts. Banter? Perfectly golden-brown. You’ll be fanning yourself before the first scone even cools.
👀 Scandal & Shenanigans: ★★★★☆ Enchantments gone awry, small-town gossip, and magical mayhem all brew together in the background, adding just the right dash of tension to keep things moving briskly. Never a dull moment!
✨ Overall: ★★★★★★★☆☆☆ (7/10) I adored this cozy, steamy, spell-kissed romp. The characters sparkled with connection, and their chemistry had me enchanted from the first page. If anything, I only wish we had more time with them. I’d happily read a whole novel (or series!) set in this magical world. Dear author, please… consider this a polite reader’s hex summoning book two. 🪄💌
I nearly bought a physical copy of this book off the TikTok shop (the author had some beautiful editions with sprayed edges) but a little voice told me I should wait and see if I could read it or even preview it somewhere for free first. Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited because if I had bought this book I would have been so pissed!
The story itself is a bit OTT but that was to be expected from something so short. What irritated me was the writing. I feel like this author learned to write at Mad-lib University. If you’ve ever wondered “Is it was possible to use too many adjectives?” the answer is a resounding YES and this story is a perfect example of how to do just that. Adjective usage can definitely aid in painting a picture for the reader but they should be used SPARINGLY. This lady was just tossing them about willy-nilly and it made the writing seem very amateurish. So glad I listened to that little voice in my head before shelling out coin for this book.
3.5 ⭐ At only 121 pages, this is a super short and sweet cozy romance! Netti was such a charming character, and I really wish the book was longer so I could get more of her. I loved the descriptions in the story, from Netti's outfits to the various desserts. The descriptive writing was not overly flowery, and really added to the whimsical feel of the story. While the story itself is interesting and I enjoyed the author's writing style, the shortness of this book did it a disservice. The events of the story were very rushed and the progression of the plot and romance didn't make a whole lot of sense since the characters didn't have any time to develop anything. Aside from the rushed pacing, I really enjoyed Spellbound Scones!
If you’re into fast pace, fast burn, and fated mates then this is the book for you. It wasn’t for me though. Connor was just crabby and confused, and Netti was your run of the mill messy, broke, workaholic FMC. Their chemistry felt more like a sugar rush than anything else.
One minute they’re bickering, the next minute it’s “You’re mine now.” Like okay, sir, maybe take a nap first. 😂
I will say, the small town witchy bakery vibes were fun, but I wanted more depth than just scones and fate throwing people together. Netti deserved more than being the FMC equivalent of burnt toast.
The only positive thing I can say is that the audiobook was duet style narration.
This is a cozy, spicy, and sweet romantasy that was a perfect one-night binge! 🌙 Set in a charming small town, it follows Netti, a pink-haired witch with a knack for baking magic, and Conner, the no-nonsense businessman (wolf shifter) who finds himself enchanted. He think the enchantment comes from the scones, but could he really be falling for this woman?
The tension? 🔥 The banter? 🍰 As yummy as the bakery treats Netti whips up! This story is a delightful mix of magic and romance.
Perfect for fans of cozy vibes and a dash of spice in their happily-ever-afters. 💕
