While many circumstances have come together for Queen Clara, some of the band and the occupants of her dome, many threats still remain. Calia and Evie have run away from the safety of the dome separating Clara's guards, allowing for nefarious actions from those she trusted.
Just when you think its going to be all wedding bliss, the Savage cast is put through a gamut of highly desperate attempts to destroy their happiness. The political mechanization and power struggles continue in this dog-eat-dog world.
You can't help but be riveted to the pages, feeling the conviction and emotion of these characters. Written in a multiple POV format, you are given deep insight into each perspective and the whys behind their actions.
The Savage Protector is a high velocity, dark expedition deep into this marvelously created dystopian world of Blodgett's imagination.
Now, I'm anxious to see where THE SAVAGE DREAM will take us.
I received this copy of The Savage Protector from Tamara Rose Blodgett in exchange for an honest review.
When it comes to detail, drama and a myriad of sub-plots that race past leaving you breathless trying to keep up, Tamara Rose Blodgett has THE GIFT! Her latest, The Savage Protector is done in true TRB style as she deftly shifts from different POVs, different scenes and never misses a beat. The dystopian life in the spheres is crashing in as evil attacks, both from the political lusts of other domes and the vile attacks from outside forces, the Fragment. Queen Clara has grown, come into her own and is ready to finally share her life with Matthew, when once again, her heart must take a backseat to her duties. Will the Band and the Sphere dwellers ever be joined, knocking down the prejudices and creating a strong alliance cemented by love? Is it possible that love will destroy those around Clara as they flee the protection of the dome, only to be captured and brutalized by the Fragment? Are there others with mixed blood who may become their allies just when they need help the most? Can they trust a man who has Band blood, but has lived with the Fragment? Will a former prisoner of the Fragment remember her roots and accept the freedom she is offered? Will Clara get her happy ever after this time with the powerful and loyal Matthew??
Once again, Tamara Rose Blodgett sucks you into her tale with hurricane force! As each scene and each character rolls through your mind, not one detail is lost from the bloody brutality of battle to the abuses and violations prisoners are made to suffer. Her ability to narrate with contemporary prose then leap back in time to give her dialogue and ancient feel, is remarkable as you are invited on the journey and stand shoulder to shoulder with each character. Her “take no prisoners” style of in- your -face writing is part of the grit and straightforward tension I have come to love about Ms. Blodgett’s style. She is able to weave together sub-plot after sub-plot, scene after scene into the chaotic world she has created without losing her pace or her focus. I feel like she knows what I want to read, and gives it to me with bold storylines, fiercely loyal allies, romantic tension, great dialogue and dastardly villians.

The Savage Protector, in true Blodgett style, is gritty, exciting and action packed, with magnificent, well thought out story lines full of epic blood-bath battles and tales of courage, bravery, love, greed and deception. What a killer combination!
Clara is looking forward to her upcoming nuptials to her Band mate, Matthew. But revenge, betrayal, deceit, loss and grief seem to get in the way. Will Clara be able to conquer all the trials in her way to wed her beloved and bind the Sphere-dwellers and Band together? Calia & Evie are attacked by the evil Fragment, Outside. Phillip comes to the rescue as well as a tribe of Red Men. Elise, a prisoner of the Fragment, proves her worth and blood ties to the Band, and finds herself free to start a new life with those of her kin. Adahy feels the connection between him and the healer, Elise, and yearns to gain her trust, but to what end? Evie is separated from the rescue group and is captured by another faction of Fragment. Maddoc is frantic to find her but when he does, they find themselves in grave danger.
In the beginning, I was a little overwhelmed, worrying that I wouldn't remember who was who, and what their stories were, but credit to Tamara, she made it a smooth transition with her skilled story telling. The Savage novels follow the the lives of many different characters. Each point of view is written with total clarity and detail! You get consumed with each and every one of them. The total dedication and chemistry between the Band members and their women is breath taking. The connections are depicted so vividly, it's like you're connected in some way too. Each character has a rich and colourful role to play - and they are written with precision. The depths of Ms. Blodgett's sometimes twisted imagination is enviable. She has a gift for writing horrible hateful, psychopathic characters! One of the many reasons I love her work! The Savage Protector concludes with a long-awaited happy ending, but we are still left with loose ends that I can't wait to find out what is to transpire.
If you liked the sound of The Savage Protector, and you haven't read any of the preceding novels, I highly recommend that you go ahead and get started reading them because you are in for one hell of an epic ride that Ms. Blodgett will continue to deliver on!
This ARC was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Being a massive fan of Tamara Rose Blodgett style of writing, I jumped at the chance to read a new series: The Savage Series. As the books have progressed, now at book 5 (The Savage Protector), the world she has created for the characters is wide, rich and fully imaginable to the extent that it is almost somewhere you can touch. The characters are all very original in their own right as well as in their collective groups and species. The inception of “The Band” is pure genius – who doesn’t want to imagine a strong man with rippling muscles, a very strong protective (as in fight to the death for you) streak, is evolutionally…ahem…well-endowed and exceptionally handsome!! Muscle Beach has nothing on them, well in my imagination they don’t! And that is down to how well Tamara Rose Blodgett is able to take her concepts and bring them to life.
Queen Clara is a strong woman, but has seen her share of strife, pain and suffering in the previous books. We have experienced every moment of joy and pain, but in The Savage Protector she is to face a whole new level of anguish, elation, betrayal, determination, trust, love and also overwhelming protection (not from others but from her outwards).
We begin where book 4 left off with the discovery that Evelyn and Calia had left the safety of the Sphere to go out into the Outside. With females of the band, especially those who are select, being so highly prised given their rarity among men in the ratio of population, finding them unharmed before The Fragment discover them is imperative.
The journey’s throughout the book centre mainly on Calia & Evie, the different groups of Fragment they meet along the way and certain members of the Band who come to their aid. Just what travesties do the girls suffer at the hands of the Fragment, will they survive in one peace before the Band arrive? As the Band pick up their trail, it becomes a race against time in order to save them and with the help from another group of men who are unknown to the Band are they able to take the Fragment on one on one for the final time?
With most of the Band away trying to help locate Calia & Evie, Queen Clara slips back into her duties of the realm, toiling away in the oyster fields, planning her wedding and the subsequent coronation of Matthew as King of the Sphere. But there are those with other ideas and look to the past for answers in order to rid themselves of the problems that may arise in the future. Will the Band return in time? With Queen Clara and her faithful subjects and friends stand for what is to come? Will she ever get to finally marry Matthew? – All is reviled in The Savage Protector, a brilliant sequel and continuation to the Savage Series Novels!!
This is another beautiful novel written by the ever talented Tamara Rose Blodgett. Her ability to captivate readers with not only her storyline, but also her imagery, characterization, and intense action sequence always makes her novels a joy to read, and The Savage Protector is no different.
I was drawn into this fifth novel in the series from the very first page, and as Blodgett continues the perilous story of Princess Clara, the band, the spheres, and the fragment, I was riveted to the spot. I absolutely adore the writing in this series. A bit archaic in nature, this world Blodgett has created is beyond amazing, and she designs it perfectly, from the clothes and character mentalities to the language and mannerism, it flows off the page in perfection.
And the imagery? Wow. I don't usually reflect on the writing in novels--I usually am too wrapped up in the story itself, but in Blodgett's novels, her writing flows so beautifully that it's impossible not to notice, and on many an occasion it brought me up short, going back and rereading the beautiful imagery Blodgett presents, even in the more dire of situations within the text.
"The mans flesh opened like a terrible flower in full bloom, blood pouring from the petals." "Though the temperature was not truly freezing, the bite of winter was evident everywhere, with small patches of the previous week's snow surrounding stranded islands of blond prairie grass."
It is just beautiful, and this, mixed with the heart-pounding sequence of events, is definitely a must read.
I also love the way Blodgett intertwines her story, shifting between character viewpoints throughout the novel. Though the entire novel reads in third person, events unfold simultaneously, which creates the need to follow different characters on their perilous adventures throughout the story, bringing each separate entity back to the main story and intertwining them perfectly. While this is indeed the fifth novel in this amazing series, and I do suggest reading these novels in order, all the novels in the Savage series read as beautifully as this, and I highly suggest you start from the beginning if you have not already done so.
In this addition Clara just can't get a break. But of course what kind of story would it be if she didn't? I'm always blown away at how fantastic Tamara writes her battle scenes. not easily done...and there are many. I found myself doing a Jonesy fist pump and yelling out "ha-ahhh!" when Clara began to defend herself righteously and wreaked some havoc on the bad guys. An amazing story from an amazing author!
(Oct 29, 2012) Ooooo I like the new cover even more :-D is it really coming out Friday?!?!? I'm going camping this weekend, am I gonna have to take my Kindle!?!?!? Woohooooooo!
(May 10, 2012) Wow, I like the cover! Looking forward to this one :-)
The story of Clara is fabulous and amazing. I have blown right through these books to read in about her story and the several other characters brought in. Don’t miss this series!
Love Clara, she is resilient, strong willed, loyal and afraid, but moved forward. Her life has been traumatic but she has overcome and made the best of her situation. She deserves love and Matthew.
With The Savage Protector, this series is back on track! Clara and Matthew are just three months from their Wedded Joining, and this should be a happy time. The sphere is repaired, everyone is safe, and soon Ohio will have a king who loves their queen. Well, the peace cannot last. Calia and Evie have left to return to the Clan, and King Otto is determined to rule the Ohio sphere at any cost.
The Savage Protector did have me worried in the beginning, because once again, we're introduced to several new characters and added their POVs to the already way too many that exist. Not to mention that the fragment manages to get their hands on Evelyn again (and again...). At least it wasn't Clara again, too. But from there, things actually move forward rather than being a repeat of the previous books. I can't say that I cared at all about the new characters, but I was very much invested in those who have been around since the beginning.
Clara has been doing her best to lead her people and forge alliance, but in The Savage Protector she is betrayed again and again. Somehow those close to her aren't who she thought they were, and would use her for their own gain. But some who were thought to be enemies become her saviors. There's no way to know who to trust! There's also those who are endlessly loyal to Clara and sadly lost their lives in this installment.
There's a lot of sadness in The Savage Protector, but it ultimately ends on a happy note. Clara has been through so much, and she's sick of the loss her people are continuing to face, so she's taking control. She's breathing life into the sphere and creating joy out of sadness. Things definitely aren't perfect, so I'm wondering where things will go next.
Tamara Rose Blodgett is an amazing writer. In the beginning Calia and Evie leave the sphere and go Outside. Calia starts to regret that she brought Evie with her. They are captured by the fragmant. When Calia and Evie are attempting to escape they are encountered by Adahy, a red man who is also Band. The red men attack the fragment and while this is going on the Band come upon them and spot Calia who is injured. Elise, also a "select" comes upon them and heals Calia. Evie and Edwin go missing, however they are not together. Maddox leaves the Band to go in search of Evie. He finds her at the hot springs, however they are attacked by the fragmant and captured. King Otto wants to take over Clare's kingdom. When the king leaves his kingdom and goes outside he is met with Theo, the leader of the fragmants and they join together in a plot to get Clare. Calia realizes her feelings toward Phillip. Something dreadful happens to Sarah. As well as to Charles and Clarence. There is more action yet a wonderful ending to this story.
With the degradation of the spheres moving even further, Queen Clara makes a decision to marry which she hopes will help fortify their kingdom against the outside world. But as the degradation continues, the fragment look for their opening to invade. In the meantime, as Evelyn and Calia leave the sphere, the Band springs to action, to save and protect and to find much more than anyone expected.
The harshly manipulated lives of these characters becomes more brilliant as they continue through Blodgett's series. Not all of the scenes were easy to read...they tore at my heart, sometimes making me outraged to the point of feeling ill. She paints battle scenes, and the consequences left in their wake, in such a way that it made me angry while being on the verge of tears. Her love scenes are written with the same passion and attention. I so look forward to what wonders the next book, in the series, brings.
When is Clara going to choose the man to mate with? There are three men getting very testy having to wait on her decision. Now there are more troubles with the Fragment raiding and raping. Calia and Evie are in serious trouble. The spheres are in trouble. When is it all going to stop for poor Queen Clara. So much violence but what a ripper of a story. Love this series.
