fallingforBentley

Home is where the heart is the heart is. And that can't be more true for Haley as she spends her summer back home taking care of her grandparent's farm while they are on vacation. While in town, she runs into Bentley, a former high school bully, who made Haley's high school life miserable. Bentley is instantly attracted to Haley and immediately apologize for his stupidity back in high school. So can Bentley win the heart of Haley and show her that he is a changed man? Will Haley leave her city life for life on the farm?

Falling For Bentley by Shawnte Borris is an easy and quick read. It was fun, light, and sweet. Though this book is fast paced, I wished the author took time with the development of Bentley and Haley. I enjoyed their friendship but I felt the author rushed these two in a BAM serious status. But overall, I really liked the book and can't wait to read what's in store for these two in Catching Haley.

**Note: There is Cliffhanger ending***

3 stars for now might change to less as it sinks in. I feel like this could have been a really good story but it was way to short and rushed. The characters were good but the story fell flat, and to be honest wtf was that ending!? Way too Rushed. It felt like the author just needed to stuff everything in a couple pages to get it done. The story had no real point to it and the decision Bentley made at the end was stupid and out of the blue. It Made no sense and was completely unlike his character. It was going really good up until the last couple chapters. 🤷🏻‍♀️ guess I’m supposed to read the second book when really it should have just been one and I’m not sure I care enough too read it.

This story is so sweet and innocent. Was a little too tamed compared to the other books I have read, but I loved it all the same. Shawnte will pull you in right from the beginning of Bentley and Haley's journey, which is a part one in the series. She will make you fall in love like it was your first time falling. Will make you want to slap and pull Bentley's hair and love him at the same time.

Haley is feisty and I loved her spunk. She may have been bullied and made fun of in high school, but she fought it even though it hurt her really bad from all the bullying. And get this, it was Bentley's doing. He was the one who started calling her THUNDER THIGHS at school. It made her feel like she wasn't worth anyone's love and time. She struggled with this issue for quite sometime, it was just a huge impact in her life that it made her so miserable. And when she finally started to think that she's got everything figured out, that she is so over the high school crap that Bentley started, he goes and run into her. She tried to ignore him, but he was very persistent. He just would not quit bothering her until she gave in. Well, how long can she deny this gnawing feeling she has since everywhere she looked, he's there.

Bentley was a high school football coach. And since it's a small town, not everyone were able to afford uniforms. This is where it all changes for Bentley and Haley, her Grandpa makes a proposition, he wanted the football team to work at the farm while he was on vacation in exchanged for the team's uniforms. Of course, Bentley could not refuse the deal. He started working with his team at Haley's grandparents ranch. Each time he sees her, he's just so stunned by her beauty and just could not stop staring, always looking dumbfounded every time she is around. He will not stop at anything to prove to Haley that he is so very sorry for putting her in such a bad situation in high school that it almost ruined her. Will she ever forgive him for his cruelty to her in the past or will she just make him chase her and make him suffer like she did?

These two young couples you will automatically fall in love with. It was such an innocent love story that it made me feel like I was in their shoes falling in love for the first time. Second chance encounter, will they make it right this time or will they both end up hurting even worst than the first time? I can't wait to read the part two of the series. Awesome job, Ms. Borris. I LOVED IT!!!

Haley is a school teacher on her summer holiday break and is spending it helping out at her grandparents farm in southern Arkansas whilst they go travelling for a while. She spent every holiday break at the farm as a child and her grandparents have played a big part in her upbringing.

Bentley is the boy who taunted Haley at high school, he called her thunder thighs and basically made her high school years pretty miserable. He is also the defensive coach for the school football team who are doing a working bee at Haley's grandparent's farm this summer.

Bentley cannot believe how cute Haley is now and she begins to get under his skin the more time he spends in her company. Haley is still confused about why he is being so nice to her, acting like all the bad stuff in school never happened. It had a huge impact on her self esteem and her confidence. Bentley just doesn't realise just how much his behaviour affected Haley back then.

This was a really sweet story, kind of a second chance love story, although the main characters were not in love the first time they knew each other, it is a second chance for both them. For Bentley to redeem himself and for Haley to come out of her chrysalis, realise that she is a beautiful young woman and worthy of love.

A short simple, but addicting story about two people falling in love. This book hooked me from the beginning, that I had a hard time stopping to go to bed to sleep.

I really enjoyed the sparks and the flirting between Haley and Bentley. I love how easily it was for them to fall into each others arms.

 photo FallingforBentley-Teaser.jpg

I enjoyed the football team also. They were not only helpful, but sweet and protective towards Haley. Even though Bentley ends up doing something so dumb in the end, I couldn’t hate him. I knew he would find his way and make everything good again.

Yes, this book ends with a cliffhanger, which I usually hate, but not this time, because I got lucky enough to have both copies on hand and went straight into reading the 2nd book Catching Haley.

Falling for Bentley is a sweet and easy read. I liked the idea that coming home is what makes you happy, and for Haley I believe that is what she needs from the beginning. I liked her sass and the way she stood up to Bentley from the time that she walked back into town.
Bentley is clearly a work in progress. I enjoyed that the author give you his high school background to show his growth. He is clearly growing into a stand up man. He still does not have it all under control and his devotion to his family and his actions of being a stand up guy for his younger brother are admirable.
I do not want to give you any spoilers but the one thing that I had an issues with was how quickly Haley forgave Bentley for traumatizing her during high school. I feel like she should have held out longer, and made him sweat more. On the flip side it is a quick read so maybe she had to forgive him quickly so they could move on.
This is not what I would consider a traditional cliffhanger but the author does leave you with the desire to find out what happens in the next installment.
I enjoyed this book and will definitely get the next one to see where Haley and Bentley go from here.

Oh what a lovely story, I loved the way it was written, Bentley is your typical high school heartthrob and has a football career ahead of him and Haley is your typical good girl who gets teased by maybe not being your perfect size cero girl, when times move forward and destiny brings this two characters together both have to face the ghost of their past, both have to learn from their mistakes and forgive past transgressions at the same time acknowledging the past has had an influence in the people they have become now.
Shawnte gives us a beautiful well written romance, it was fast paced and had all the ingredients of a good Romance one that will make your heart flutter that will melt you and perhaps bring some memories of your own.

My rating 4 out of 5 only because I was left wanting more, I DONT LIKE CLIFF-HANGERS!!

I loved this story! It was light and sweet and I couldn't get enough it. I loved the characters and their connections, and relationships with one another. This story holds old wounds, fresh starts, first loves, and mistakes made. I was drawn in to the story, it felt like I was there, like an old friend catching up. I can not wait to find out what happens next in Chasing Bentley! I am a huge fan of series and author!

Must have been hard to trust one of the people who tormented you through high school and to fall for them and give yourself over to them just for them to walk away is torturing and I feel for Haley. Trusting Bentley just for him to up and leave without a work and then to find out your expecting his baby how the hell do you deal with that??? Shawnte Borris is one hell of a writer and I so cannot wait for Catching Haley in August... Why so long?!?!

Haley had a rough childhood , her mom took off and her dad traveled so much that Haley never had a real place to call home and by high school she had felt very lonely. Always having loved the feel of being at her grandparents ranch her father decided to let her finish out her high school years living with his parents while he fulfilled his dreams with his job. High school wasn't easy for Haley , she was made fun of a lot and mostly by one kid who happened to be the high school football star. Now an adult Haley is living hours away from the ranch in the city and working at a very prestigious school doing what she loves , teaching. Summer vacation has her going home to the ranch to handle some much needed work while her grandparents travel. Little does she know the high school football team is helping her out in exchange for sponsor on their new jerseys , this may sound great but wait until Haley sees who their coach is !!
Bentley had big dreams of going to the NFl , but when his father;s injury had him leaving school and football those dreams were put on hold and eventually squashed. Now bentley lives for the farm and deals with his father's horrible attitude because he did what he had to do for family. He is at a crossroads of wanting to do for him but always doing for others instead. On the verge of some big changes being made by his mom Bentley finally has the chance to branch out on his own and go for his dreams. When the blonde hottie shows up in town Bentley is shocked to find out who she really is and now more determined as ever to earn her forgiveness and love because he has fallen and it scares the crap out of him.
Both Haley and Bentley are great characters. Haley is on the verge of some major life choices , move back home or go back to the city to teach a grade she doesn't enjoy , could Bentley become part of her reason for staying ?? Haley knows what she wants and she is ready to forgive and see where things go. Bentley worked his tail off getting Haley to open up but just when she gives him her all he freaks out and may just ruin everything....
Love the dual POV my favorite !!

Wow!!! What can I say about this book, it is absolutely amazing!! This book pulled me in from the very beginning and didn’t let go, when the end came I was left wanting more. This book is a short, fast-paced read that pulls the reader in and takes you on a journey along with the characters.
Haley is a teacher who is on summer break. She goes home to her grandparent’s farm in Arkansas to help out and watch over it while they take a vacation for a few weeks.
Bentley is trying to figure out what he wants in life. He has a little brother that looks up to him on and off the football field and a father that is hard to please. He is reaching his limit for frustration when Haley comes back into his life.
Haley was taunted by Bentley and his group in high school and has a body image complex because of it. When Bentley tries to talk to Haley, she is just not ready to talk to him. They get to know each other as adults and realize that they may have misjudged each other.
The chemistry between these two is smoking hot!! I love the way the relationship between them develops into something more. The secondary character in this book are just as interesting as the main ones and really help add that something more to it.
Shawnté Borris has crafted an amazing book filled with wonderful characters. I was pulled in and held captivated by this story from the start. The way she writes helps one experience and visualize the story the same time as the characters do. I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out!! I know that it will be just as fabulous as this one.

What does a school teacher and a football star has been have a common? Maybe you need to read Falling for Bentley to find out!
Haley can’t wait for summer vacation so she can go back to her roots in her grandparent’s farm in Arkansas. She loves her teaching job, the school the jury is still out. Raised by her grandparents the later years of high school Haley formed a special bond with them and being back was like being home again.
Bentley was his school’s football star and a full paid scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin; going pro was the next logical step until he was needed back at his parents’ ranch. He put his dreams aside and come back home.
While out for a run to grab some treats for her grandparents’ road trip, she bumps into Bentley, she is not pleased to see him; he made her high school days terrible which lead to a lot of issues with body image.
As Haley has to run the ranch for her grandparents, she assigned a group of football players to help her handle the tasks left by her grandfather. Little to her liking; Bentley shows up to be the adult supervision as their coach. Both have a good banter until Bentley apologizes for his ways in school. He is mesmerized by Haley and both develop a friendship. She begins to rely on him and see for who he really is. They both share their hurts and hopes for the future; and a romance develops for them.
Bentley is torn as what to do, to stay and take over the ranch or go search his dreams.
This was my first reading a novel from this author. I enjoyed the book; the characters are well developed as if they were your friends. I only wished there was more to tell on the last chapter, it ends on a cliffhanger and there are a few things you are left wondering even with the epilogue. I cannot wait for the next book!

Overall 4 stars!

Bentley has spent most of his adult life working a farm and taking care of his
parents, but he's not sure that's what he wants to do. There was a time that
football, girls, and drinking were all he needed until his family.

Haley wants to do nothing more than move back to the farmland she grew up in and
loved. Changed in appearance because of high school, she has got the attention
of the one person who made her life hell there. Will she be able to forgive
Bentley for his mistakes in the past and convince him that his future is in the
heartland with her?

My opinion....

If your looking for a sweet book then this is for you. I liked Bentley, I think
he needed to "man-up" a little bit in places, but then he did in others. I think
Haley was kind of annoying in parts. Don't misunderstand me that things in H.S.
can be hurtful but after several years, it's really just time to move on. The
author tried to be a little dirty with how they talked, but it seemed almost
forced and if anyone is looking for hot sex scenes, this is not for you.

The story was good and it showed a lot of how small town living was, but it
lacked description of major points in the story. Such as how Bentley looked, how
the diner looked, and just overall descriptiveness. Contrary to what my review
is, I will give the book a 4. It was a good, sweet story that made me want to go
live on a farm.

I thought this was a light hearted easy read. I enjoyed the characters and their banner with each other. The setting of the story makes me want to move to the country and find my own football coach.

Haley spent her high school years living with her grandparents on their farm. After leaving and becoming a teacher, she loves to come back during summer breaks to spend the summer with them. This is home for her. She would do just about anything to be able to move back to the farm and teach.

Bentley was the local football jock that had all plans to go pro. But when life got in the way, he gave up his dreams to come back to the family farm to help his parents. He is now the local football coach. Bentley is not sure where he wants his life to go. He feels an obligation to his parents and brother to stay. But he is very unsure.

As Haley and Bentley’s path cross when she arrives in town; she is taken back to her high school days when Bentley was the cause of so much heartache. He nicknamed her “Thunder Thighs” and of course all the popular kids starting calling her that.

They have to play nice so that the football team can fulfill her grandfather’s promise to buy new uniforms for the team by helping out on the farm with repairs. Haley and Bentley try to be friends by letting the past go. But sometimes being just friends is not enough.

As their relationship becomes more in the blink of an eye; it is over just as quick.

Haley follows her dreams; will Bentley be able to follow his? I am looking forward to the next book. I hope Bentley is about to find his dreams.

I like the plot of this story. The past of the characters made them more real and not just a fictional character. I like how Bentley and Haley got this past between them which hinted that they’re not really strangers to each other but someone just getting reacquainted and seeing each other at better light. Haley’s trouble and Bentley’s confusions made me relate to them. I kind of like Travis character too. And I’m curious about Curtis. He’s like a spice to the whole story. So aside for Bentley and Haley I’ll be looking forward to what will happen to the two of them.
The attraction budding between Haley and Bentley made me look forward to what awaits on the next page. It’s like watching a movie and eagerly anticipating what unfolds next. Though the ending kind of made a big cliff hanger which is not something I’m fond of, it also made me excited to what awaits me on the next book.
I really think Shawnte made a great job in writing this story. It got the romance, the thrill and the excitement that love stories should have but more than that, it has a touch of reality in it that made it more easier to visualize it as well as relates to what the characters are feeling. I don’t usually get attached to the heroes, more often than not, I tend to fell in love with their friends or other third party, but the title of this novel couldn’t be more appropriate. Falling for Bentley will really have you falling for Bentley.

Haley Wells is a teacher who just finished teaching junior high students but rather teaching kindergarten and first grade students. She is spending her summer looking after her grandparents’ farm while they go on a needed holiday.

She has a list of things to do from her grandfather as he also managed to hire the local football team to help with the chores for sponsoring their new jerseys. Haley ends up spending time with the football guys and the assistant coach since the head coach had some family matters to deal with.

The assistant coach turns out to be Bentley Knight a former high school student whom made her life miserable with his teasing. He apologizes for his behavior as the two become friends which grow into an attraction.

Bentley has his own problems to deal with as his parents gives him a choice regarding his mother’s family farm. He had given up the possibility of a professional football career when his father had to retire at 47 from farm work and dealing with his eight year younger brother whom he is close to.

What does Bentley really want and does it include Haley? Will Haley be his future or will they go their separate ways as we wait and see?

I'm slightly conflicted on how to rate this book. First of all, it's only around 150 pages, so I'm not sure I'd call it full-length, which is fine. Second, the writing was not my favorite -- very simple and with a narrative I am not a fan of (i.e. first person, present tense self-narrating "I went to the market and then I went shopping for ten minutes and then I went to my car..." <-- just an example). Other people may not mind it, but it's something I struggle to look past in books. I also felt that the book needed additional revisions.
That being said, however, I ADORED the characters. Even though we only saw them for 150 pages, I found them charming and endearing and I found myself smiling like an idiot over this romance. Bentley and Haley's dynamic was cute and a little bit different than most of the romances I've read (this is adult contemporary, by the way) and I enjoyed the short amount of time I had to get to know them. Many cute side characters as well that I want to get to know more.
So ultimately I will continue the series (I own the bind-up) and look forward to seeing what's next in the Falling for Bentley series :) My technical/grammatical rating is 2.5 but my enjoyment rating is 4 - so 3.25 overall!

Personal Response:
I really enjoyed this book. It showed how to overcome your past. It also proved that people can change. It sets a good example for seeing that the people you were friends with in high school when you get older a lot of them change.
Summary:
Haley is moving back to her grandparents ranch for a few weeks in the summer as her grandparents go on vacation. They are leaving her in charge with a long to do list that needs to be done by time they come back. Haley's grandfather knew she couldn't do it all by herself so he hires the football team to help in return he'll buy them new football jerseys. What Haley didn't know is that the assistant football coach was Bentley. Her bully in high school. As the football players come everyday to work the closer Bentley and Haley get. They start to try things out see if they are right for each other. It was all going good until Bentley decides to finish his dream and go out of state to play football leaving her behind. What he didn't know was that she was pregnant.
Recommendation:
I recommend this book to anyone who likes drama filled books with a little love story in them. I think this book is targeted more to girls. I give this book a five out of five stars because of the good story line.

Falling for Bentley is a cute story and a cliffhanger.
I'm not a big fan of cliffhangers and a book has to be pretty good to make me want to read they next in the series and Falling for Bentley does that.
Haley's home helping out on the farm and spending time with one of the
biggest bullies from high school. She's a different person now and lucky for both of them so is he.
Haley and Bentley spend time together working with the boys on the farm and eventually begin to spend a little time one on one and realize they are both attracted to each other and maybe falling for each other.
There's a surprise ending you won't see coming until it's too late!

I struggle between 4 and 4.5 stars with this one, the only thing that keeps me from the higher rating is truly the build up of Bentley and Haley's relationship. It was just friendship and them bam a date, a revelation and distance. Okay so that probably doesn't make sense if you haven't read it but I don't do spoilers, just know that I thought the relationship could have used a bit more ground work once it became more than friends.

This is a short read in which I read in a span of 2 hours. But in those small amount of pages, I have learned to like Haley and Bentley enough that I wanted more.

Haley was never popular at High School, well, in ways that mater. Yet, she was popular to be picked on especially by the cliche football player heartthrob, Bentley.

Years after, Haley comes back to look after her grandparents' ranch while they are away. The same ranch that Bentley's football team that he coaches is helping in exchange for sponsorship of new jerseys.

The two crosses paths but this time, the joke's on Bentley. Stunning as she is after her hell of a time in High School, Thunder Thighs cease to exist and in it comes the beautiful, confident and kind blonde who doesn't give a shit at being the receiving end of Coach Knight's charm.

This is a whirlwind of a story that will make you want for more when you hit the last page.

This is a light, short read with a very sweet storyline. What I particularly liked was that although it was short the author managed to ensure the relationship build-up didn't feel rushed. I find that this can be a common problem with the shorter reads, and even with the longer books on occasion, where the relationship can feel rushed, the characters too quick to drop the L-bomb, and therefore becomes less believable and realistic.

There is the odd grammatical mistake but not so much that it becomes an irritant and takes away from the story.

The ending is a bit off a cliff-hanger in that this book is not the whole story, by the end it feels more like a prelude to the main story. I'm looking forward to what's in store for Haley and Bentley in the next book.

This is a light easy read...BUT it has a cliffhanger and book two isn't out yet...fml! Haley is a teacher spending her summer helping out at her grandparents ranch. Bentley is the schools defensive football coach. The head coach works out a deal with Haley's grandpa that if his players help out at the ranch he will provide their jerseys. Well Bentley and Haley went to school together and Bentley made Haley's life miserable by taunting her and her weight. Haley no longer has any extra weight and is pretty hot...and hell if Bentley doesn't notice. He sets off to work himself into her heart but once he does...he's gone. Trying to figure out his plans for the future and his family's future...but leaving may have cost him Haley.

Writing was disjointed and confusing. There was no real character development and the supposed connection between the love interests was flat. There was no build up, it was like the author was like "oh yeah I'm writing a romance book, oops I better make them kiss" and so they do in one of the most awkwardly written kissing scene ever. Then in almost the next chapter she give up her vCard, it was so up romantic and awkward. Then it was like the author thought it would fun to torture us more with these flat boring characters and just suddenly ended the book with the guy making some weird ass douch move. Seriously, these characters do not even deserve one book so why they get three sounds like an annoying headache of stupidity.

A total mess!!!

I purchased the entire series at one time and regret it! This is the first book in the series and the only words that came to my mind when I finished it was what a total mess! The editing was horrible. There were also grammatical errors, misspelled words, but what stuck out the most to me was the lack of chemistry between the H and H. I found both characters boring and immature! I am not sure how anyone could give this book a good rating. My advice to others who are looking to purchase is don't waste your time or money.

I really enjoyed this read. I loved Haley and what she had to overcome in her past with being made fun of by Bentley. Haley was fun but still guarded and I really enjoyed her character!
Bentley is a typical guy with issues stemming from being a high school star to losing his dreams. I loved his banter with Haley but was definitely mad at him at the end!

Can't wait to read Catching Haley!! Bentley has his work cut out for him!
