Travel back to the prehistoric world and discover the most fascinating parts of the lives of Earth's most awe-inspiring creatures - the dinosaurs.
Dr Dean Lomax brings these prehistoric creatures to life in ten bite-sized essays, written for people short on time but not curiosity. Making big ideas simple, Dean takes readers on a journey to uncover what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, what dinosaurs ate, how they evolved, what caused them to go extinct, and more!
Perfect for anyone fascinated by the dinosaur exhibits at museums, palaeontology and fans of Jurassic Park.
Dr. Dean Lomax is an internationally recognized and award-winning palaeontologist, presenter, and author. He has traveled the globe excavating dinosaurs and has described several new species of prehistoric reptile. He lives in the UK.
This was really good. Perfect for people that don't have a lot of knowledge of dinosaurs but are interested in knowing a couple facts. The audiobook (narrated by the author) was really good as well.
If this book was a dinosaur, it would be an allosaurus. It’s fast paced, intelligent and above all, it’s really, really awesome.
Meaning ‘different lizard’ in Greek, the allosaurus possessed a unique backbone compared to that of other dinosaurs. Similarly, this book stands apart from many non-fiction works that have come before it. Each essay radiates with Lomax’s enthusiasm and is written with accessible language that engages with scientific fact without using any complicated jargon.
Weighing in at under a kilogram and measuring in 20cm in length, this book is significantly smaller than an allosaurus. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in punch.
Lomax’s charming style coupled with his interesting bite-sized facts make this book perfect for anyone looking to reignite their passion for the prehistoric, or dive into the lost world for the very first time.
Entertaining and remarkably educational, this short book covers some of the hottest and most relevant topics captivating professional palaeontologists today. Read my full review at https://inquisitivebiologist.com/2022...
How can you not enjoy a book about dinosaurs?! Incredibly interesting with lots of facts and detail around these creatures, split into 10 bitesize chapters it was easy to digest and now I’m telling everyone all the facts I’ve learnt about.
This book was a fantastic whistle stop tour through all things Dino. From what they are, what they eat, when they lived and how we find them to what we still don’t know and the future of palaeontology.
I really loved this book and it was so effortless and easy to read. It was written so well and written exactly as a Non-fiction book should be! Accessible to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned dinosaur pro or someone just wanting to know more about these epic creatures.
Despite its small size, it really packs a punch and contains so much amazing information. Its great to get to know more about this field and an intro to all you’d need and want to know about the epic lives of dinosaurs. It’s a really great book and one that I’m really happy I have on my shelf! Really enjoyed reading.
A gift from my wonderful friend Lisa! And what a fun little read this was.
Nothing mindblowing in here, mostly things I knew already, but reading something about science written by somebody who is passionate and good at explaining is never a chore.
Lomax does a good job summing up 10 important things about dinosaurs into funny, interesting little bites. A really enjoyable, quick read.
“On multiple occasions I was told that I would never become a palaeontologist - that I simply ‘wasn’t good enough’. The point is, if I had listened to those people, I would not be the person I am today. It is important to find your own way in life and discover what works for you. Never let anybody discourage you from following your dreams.”
10 feiten die je zou moeten kennen. Weer zo'n weetjesboek.
Don’t be put off by the size of this book, having just read quite a challenging read this book felt like something of a relief.
Dr Dean writes with conviction and keeps everything in layman’s terms without getting to heavy on all the science stuff, as a dino fan I honestly found some genuinely interesting things in this book and felt like I actually learned things I never knew or realised I won’t spoil what they were and go into details.
A beautiful interesting little book that is more than worth your time.. I was also lucky to get a signed copy from The Author with a personal dedication.
Anyone with a childlike fascination and/or curiosity of dinosaurs would most likely enjoy this short but succinct book.
Defies a couple of myths from velociraptor sizes and capabilities to elements of Crichton’s Jurassic Park and to why images of the T-Rex fighting a Stegosaurus are dumb.
Continuing my ‘non-fiction girlie’ era with another five star read.
This was a really interesting read that was informative but not too advanced. As a dinosaur fan, there were some things I already knew, but I really felt like it built on my existing knowledge. I think this would be the perfect place to start for a dino newbie!
The perfect book for adult dinosaur lovers! It brings them back to life (at least in my head) and inspires me about the wonders and mysteries of the world! It is an easy read combining proper science and a wee bit of humour... Well worth a read
I learned so much more than just 10 things from this book. Every page amazed me! This would have been a 5-star read if there would have been pictures of the dinosaurs mentioned but I had a fun time googling as well.
A great and entertaining wee book, which acts as a great introduction to the complexities of studying dinosaurs. It deals with all complex questions of the knowns and unknowns of current dino-knowledge, with Lomax explaining things in an easy and accessible way.
