Las Vegas is a town full of neon signs, bright lights and crazy loons. Showgirl Sher Hanrahan should know, she’s become the focus of a stalker who wants her off the stage and out of show business for good.

Honestly what was wrong with men these days, hadn’t they heard of flowers and jewellery?

Corporate trouble shooter Jake Donnelly is in Vegas with orders to protect a showgirl with a little stalker problem. Should be a walk in the park for a professional like him, right? That’s until he meets Sher Hanrahan of the mile high legs and wicked ‘I know something you don’t’ smile. Suddenly masquerading as her pretend boyfriend becomes the most important mission he’s ever been on. If he wants to keep the girl safe, switch his boyfriend status from pretend to real then he’s going to need to unravel a mystery and find a killer.
With the gorgeous Sher by his side what could possibly go wrong?

An optimist, yet overly sarcastic. Big on bringing the laughs and the heat to her paranormal romance and cosy mystery series. A huge fan of snark, with a side order of bickering and a double heaping of banter. Delivering to the page sweet alpha males and their more than a match female counterparts. Before wrapping it all up in a hugely satisfying HEA each and every time.

Living in Melbourne, Australia, with her blue tongue lizard, that pokes it head out from under the porch twice a year. When not writing, can generally be found reading.

I love a smart and sassy heroine and an alpha hottie who have sizzling chemistry as these MC’s do. Couple that with a fast-paced, mystery/thriller situation, really good writing, and great humor? Well, that results in me finding my second favorite book of 2020! I loved it!

P.S. for a book that came out in 2014, I didn’t think that the story was dated at all. That quality of timeless storytelling, imo, is one of the things that make a book a great re-read. I know that I’m going to be pulling this one out whenever I’m in the mood for a fun, fast, and steamy whodunit.

P.P.S. While this book works as a stand-alone, I would suggest that you pick up book 1 in this series — which is a fun whodunit too, btw. We meet Sher in that one and it sets up the story of this book quite nicely.

This was a feel-good, fun, cosy read that wrapped me up in laughter and romance from the first page to the last - there was a dead body or two, tension, and a mystery to solve. But the tone was light. The dialogue zinged between our smart, witty leads. And wow, what a couple - Sher was gorgeous but genius level smart, a showgirl with a killer body who has been targeted by a stalker killer.
Jake is her perfect match - they butt heads, jockey for superiority - and the set up of their fake relationship to catch the stalker/killer was fun and sexy good times.
The secondary characters really added to the plot and rounded out this fun story set in Las Vegas.
Danger lurks around this couple and the more they work together the deeper their attraction becomes until we get a wonderful HEA to tie all the threads up.

I adored Sher, she was funny, smart and gorgeous - and refreshingly, she knows she's gorgeous - she really understands what motivates people and isn't above manipulating them (especially men) to get what she wants.
She meets her perfect match in Jake, a fixer, who likewise is smart and likes getting his own way. When these two meet fireworks go off - and within minutes they are agreeing to a 'fake' relationship to help catch the stalker who is after Sher. But things quickly go from bad to worse when body parts start showing up and it seems there are multiple stalkers after showgirl Sher.

Yes, there are bodies dropping, and bad stuff going on but somehow JC keeps this light (but still with some tension to ground it) The dialogue between the MC's zings with wit and cleverness. The secondaries - Sher's showgirl friends, are excellent. Lots of laughs to be had. And there are a number of bad guy potentials to keep us off the scent of the stalker/s until the last few chapters.

Sweet, sizzling and charming - all wrapped up in a cosy romance mystery with a big beautiful HEA bow. Adored.

Two marvellous head strong characters butt heads in this romance/mystery light novel. Well, I say light because of JC's deft touch with a witty conversation and easy flow from scene to scene, but quite a few body parts do pop up in this tale, set in Vegas.
Sher, our h, is stupendous, wicked smart, a little man shy, confident, bold. Not above bringing a cleverly devised lesson to set the H back on his heels, when needed. Our H, Jake, was alpha dominant, but he handles Sher with respect, class and enjoys the matching of wits as much as her gorgeous face/body.
I found myself smiling throughout the read as these two struggle for dominance in their relationship before they realise they are in love. Enjoyed the stalker/action part of the story, the romance however really took centerstage and made my day.

Sher is a showgirl with a stalker. Jake is a troubleshooter hired to protect her and run the casino. Instant chemistry.

What I enjoyed:
* I liked Sher and Jake and thought they had great chemistry
* The stalker mystery was good. Lots of suspects but you aren't totally surprised by the outcome.

What could have been better:
* some things were a bit unbelievable

Here’s the thing about any Jane Cousins book, her characters jump out of the pages and grab a reader, dragging us into a world filled with scary bits, amazing bits and sometimes fascinating bits but always always with a realism to it. I love Sher, she’s sexy, strong and take no bunk. Exactly what Jake didn’t know he needed, but did.
Loved it.

Ever read a book where you just found yourself smiling all the time as you read? Well, this was one of those. We were first introduced to Sher in book one - now it's her turn to take centre stage. She was great - sexy, snarky, confident, manipulative, yet also loyal and funny. Our H, finds himself with a case of instant lust that quickly transforms to something more as Sher bowls him over.
Loved the pretend boyfriend set-up. And their witty back and forths / power struggle. How Sher seems to have met her match in such a strong, confident, determined H.
The stalking story was a good background to the romance. From start to finish this was just a sweet treat.

I want to be Sher, the h, when I grow up. She's all things smart, funny, with a slightly off kilter/evil sense of humor that I just adore. And Jake, the H, her perfect match, complimenting her in every way - meeting and matching her on the witty/snarky dialogue. Both like the upper hand, to control, and they tousle for it here. But in the end can't deny the hot simmering attraction going on b/w them.
Stalkers abound, dead bodies show up gift wrapped. Sher's friends are wonderful. Kiki especially.
Sweet, sexy, funny, clever and just plain fun. Loved it.

Love this author. Book was a surprising package of romance, humour and some suspense. Thought both leads were great and loved the development of their relationship. Laughed out loud in places. Fun, escapist sweetie of a read. Bring on the next one.
