I don’t think I get it. I don’t tend to like stories that aren’t linear unless there is a reason for it and while is chronological over a period of time it felt like going in circles. I still can’t tell if the fmc was lying to herself or if the author had a hard time making her thoughts and actions line up. It felt like so many threads were pulled and none of them got resolved. The parts that felt like a dream or some kind of alternate reality made things even more confusing. And I didn’t understand any of the relationship dynamics. I’m going to see if things get more clear in the next one but if it takes me as long to read it as this one or if the same issue continue. I’m probably just going to skip to the main story cause this felt like reading someone’s journey where they recounted moment with now real rhythm or reason for when it skipped from one part to the next.
Lakshmi is a nonstop whirlwind of ancient power and feminine rage. Author Emmanuel E. Ossai weaves surprising twists throughout this dark fantasy tale with horror and romance elements. This book has a thick plot surrounding an unexplained death, societal expectations, mysterious visions, and otherwordly entities. The well-rounded characters, an interesting magic system, and the stunningly vivid imagery had me engrossed. Lakshmi was so difficult to put down, and I can't even wait to read the next in the series!
I was completely drawn into Lakshmi's story. You've got a young BIPOC girl growing up in a mostly white neighborhood who suddenly finds herself with magic powers just when the rage is nearly too much. Plus a beautiful slow burn romance with only guy who gets her and lotsa of mystery, magic, demons, and douchebags along the way. I definitely want to see what happens next.
This series is absolutely thrilling and full of well rounded characters. Such talent from a young author. Can’t wait to see how you develop further and embolden other characters in future books and more.
