Eddie Diamond had it all; lead guitarist for Black Diamond - a life many would be jealous of. Music used to be his everything, but after a devastating loss, his life spirals out of control. He carries a guilt that consumes him, and tries to mask it with women and drugs. On a path of self-destruction, he has hit rock bottom and at risk of losing it all, can he accept help before it’s too late?
One broken promise; One loss so deep; One regret so unforgivable.
Callie Dean knows how it feels to be at rock bottom, she knew it well, having lost everything. When she accepted a job offer to help the famous rocker, she never expected how hard it would be to even look at him. Everything she has fought so hard to stay away from is staring her right in the face, and being around him reminds her of all her past demons.
One bullet; One letter; One day never to be forgotten.
If they can both let their walls down, can that one small moment be enough for them to both start to trust each other and realise they really do need each other in order to begin healing?
You know when you start reading a book and it is so intense and new that you just can't put it down. Well this is that book, I absolutely loved it. It was sad, intense and at times extremely funny! The main characters in this book both have an addiction problem. Callie has been sober for five years but still struggles on a daily basis. Eddie in in the middle of his addiction and is not looking to quit any time soon. Callie has been hired to be Eddies' sober couch and she is one hell of a strong woman. They both come to odds with each other and they both have to face their demons. Tragedy strikes and Callie is faced with more hurt than one person is suppose to bare. Eddie tries to help but he isn't strong enough. While they still love each other they have to face some things on their own.
A journey of Love; Loss and Self-forgiveness.
My favorite quote from the book..."Don't try to understand me, it will give you a headache" Eddie
Where do I start? I loved this book on so many levels, it made me cry it made me laugh the emotions you feel with this book is off the charts! Eddie has so many vices to carry him through his rock and roll lifestyle but they are just masking his true feelings.... That is until he meets a mother and daughter and the little girl captures his heart and gives his life meaning and purpose once more. Eddie tries to pull it all Together and be the role model she deserves but his self confidence deep Down always makes him Falter..
Then Callie walks into his life to try to help him straighten up and sober up instead of the damaging path he is following, only (insert name) also has her own past demons and she is truly pushed to her limits both mentally and being physically attracted to Eddie This book was an emotional roller coaster that was unbelievably amazing and well worth the journey it took me on. 5 amazing stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OMG what an amazing rockstar romance!!! This has to be one of my favourite rockstar romance books I've ever read.
The journey that Eddie & Callie go on throughout this book keeps you wanting to know what happens next. With Callie being employed to be Eddies sobriety buddy after he hits rock bottom, leads to her struggling to deal with her own sobriety. They face so many challenges that I won't spoil but for me this is a must read book & I hope that I get to read more of this world.
Some of the themes/tropes in this book are:
*Rockstar Romance *Drug & Alcohol Use *Grief *Sexual Harrasment
I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this book & this is my honest opinion.
" We never know strength inside ourselves until we have to be strong." - this quote is just 👌
This story kept me sucked in, and I was along for the ride.
To start off with, I couldn't stand the MMC he is just so pigheaded and arrogant rockstar! But as his character developed and got to know him, you understand why he hit rock bottom. No one could ever recover from losing someone you care about until you find someone else who has been through the same thing.
Everyone has a past, and everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Two broken souls make 1.
I had so many emotions with this story, laughter, anger, sadness, and happiness. And that is what you need for such a gripping book.
OMG, this book took me on such an emotional rollercoaster. It r!pped my heart out and, by the end, put it back together again. It is just so raw and filled with so much emotion. Callie and Eddie both have my heart forever. Honestly, this book had me gripped from the very first page, and boy, did I cry. I needed tissues and so much chocolate. This incredible book is about love , loss , @dd!ct!on, and so much more. Five Huge Stars, it's amazing.
Detailed sex-scenes with OWs till over 30%, even after MCs met. Many abhorrent disrespectful sexistisch comments about women. I respect people who try to make a difference after tragic event in their life. Not the case here.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
5 emotional stars!! Wow I don't know how she does it but there is so much depth to this book that you are just literally sucked in!
🖤This is Eddie and Callie's story....
My name is Eddie Diamond. Yes I know I am a rockstar. Money, sex, music and drugs that's all I need. Some years ago I found the meaning of life and then one day it was taken away. So screw it all...LETS PARTY!
My name is Callie and I am an addict. I have been sober for 5 years now but everyday is a struggle. I made some huge mistakes and life has been unkind. But I need to move on and get a place of my own. So when I am offered an opportunity to make a lot of money babysitting a rockstar...I took it! I didn't realize his demons would want to play with my demons.
My Thoughts....
Wow I was a basket case reading this book. Life got in the way but this would have all been read in one sitting if it was possible. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The last fourth of the book I shed more tears then I have in a long time. There were good tears and sad tears. Poor Callie has hit rock bottom too many times. My heart ached so bad for her. I do love Mr Eddie Diamond!! His brother intrigues me as well. I hope there will be more to see of him. I think Amelia and Beau changed my outlook on life. Oh how my heart hurt. This book has some triggers involving death of a child and addiction. Though it sounds so bad it opens your eyes. Even if this doesn't cut it close to home for some you still will feel the pain and grief. I want to say I was worried because, yes I have read books about musicians and have like them, it has to be a really good book to pull me in with musicians. I don't know why but they are not my forte. It did not bother me not one ounce with this book. This book was very well written and made me invest myself into these characters. I wanted to help heal them and fight for them. Thank you Jaye for allowing me to get my hands on this book because this here is a MUST read for 2017!!
**I received this book as an ARC from the author and because I loved it so much, I gave my honest review**
** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review ** ** Review by Gayle from Bloggers From Down Under **
I have absolutely so much love and respect for this novel I have no idea where to start with my review.
Addiction. I'm sure most of us can relate to it, weather it be ourselves or someone we know who suffers from it. It can come in so many forms, be it food, alcohol or drugs. Addiction eats and swallows you whole. It takes away the person you are, it alters you, changes you. Addiction isn't a choice. It controls you. It takes over your body, mind and soul. It leaves you numb, freeing you from any emotion. But when you come down, the emotions are back. And in that moment it's the next hit that matters. It's a dark and dangerous world. It's deadly. It's a world that so many are affected by, but doesn't often have a voice.
But Jaye Cox has given it that. She has given addiction a voice, and has taken us into the world of an addict.
She has taken us to Eddie and Callies world. Where addiction takes over. Where emotions are pushed aside. Where feelings are masked by the next hit.
It's raw, dark and highly confronting. It's heart breaking. It's bleak. It's real.
This is Eddie and Callies story.
Guys I don't know what to say other than I cannot recommend this novel high enough. Such a powerful and thought provoking read that I couldn't put it down. Emotionally charged I spent my time either laughing my butt off, holding my breath or simply crying through the anguish. It seriously hurt. And I couldn't get enough. I honestly don't know what to say. Jaye Cox....Thank you so very much for giving us such a brilliant novel and for giving the subject matter so much respect. It was executed perfectly.
You crushed me Jaye. OMG but you gave me a story that I loved and won’t forget.
Silence is a beautifully written story about Callie and Eddie. Two individuals, unknown to each other, who are at different stages of the same journey. It is the same intensely sad occasion that sparked an equal and opposite spiral of events for both of them.
I have struggled for so long to write a review that is worthy of Callie and Eddie’s story. I want to do justice to Amelia and Beau, and explain how much I admired the secondary characters in their lives.
In the end, all I can say is that I loved this book so hard and recommend it as a must-read. Thank you Jaye for the opportunity to read your book in advance of it’s release.
It is a book about having everything you ever want in life, but still craving something more. It’s about knowing you need to be there for your family and still failing to keep straight. About hitting rock bottom and realising too late that you’ve lost those who matter. Your worst enemy is not only the black dog that circles and covers you with craving, it’s the time and opportunity you’ve lost and can never regain. It is a book about forgiveness. The forgiveness of yourself and others’ forgiveness of you. And about loving yourself and others again, more than the drugs or alcohol. And in the end, it’s about losing the best part of yourself, and not succumbing, But if you do, forgive yourself and get back on the wagon. To do it for yourself. Be honest. It’s not for anyone else. They have their own struggles. Be thankful for every day you’re alive, and for those that helped you return to yourself. 5 Amazing Stars.
An amazingly touching rockstar romance, though it didn't start that way. Eddie Diamond is a guitar god, whose life has only ever had meaning with one female, and when she is taken from him, he breaks down in a big way - and 5 years later, he is still melting down, and it is about to cost him everything.
Callie Dean was also greatly affected by the loss of Amelia, her niece, but it is what prompted Callie to clean up and get her life back together. What are Eddie's brother and Amelia's mom thinking when they offer Callie the job to help Eddie clean up, when it is the last thing he is even Considering? Will they heal each other, or fall prey to each other's demons? It is a compelling storyline, without a doubt.
Add Callie's nearly 18 year old son, Beau, to the mix, and I couldn't walk away if I had wanted to. It is a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book. The only issue I had with it falls into spoiler category, but even with that in mind, the book is pretty fantastic.
Highly recommended to all my rockstar loving girls. Not a lot of explicit scenes, but the story flows and will hold you captive.
You’ll never know your strength until being strong is the only choice you have left.
Such a powerful quote that one, and one that everyone should remember.
Jaye has written such a beautiful story about hitting rock bottom and then clawing your way back up, over and over again. This story has so much tragedy, loss, love and self-forgiveness. I certainly went through some tissues reading this one.
Both Callie and Eddie were such strong characters and I absolutely loved their dynamic. Two tortured souls trying to find themselves while being thrown together.
This is a confronting book where addiction is concerned and I think Jaye did a great job of giving it a voice. It's not something that's easy to conquer, in any form. Please read the trigger warnings before reading this story.
4 stars
Tropes: Contemporary romance, Rockstar romance, Forced Proximity, Strangers to Lovers, Slow Burn, Found Family, Dual POV, Redemption, Resistance/Rebellion, Tear Jerker
Triggers: Addiction, Substance abuse, suicide, self-harm, mental health issues, death (brother & child), gun violence, cheating, sexual assault (alleged), betrayal
This was a powerful read about two people that had to go through addiction and recovery. We watch Eddie and Callie as they fight their addiction and come back to life. Just when I had hope for each of them Ms. Cox would throw in some twists that made even my heart break let alone breaking down the main characters. As Eddie and Callie lean on each other can they help each other heal or will they bring each other down? This read was tough, it was defiantly now all sunshine and roses. There was so much heartache and heartbreak. Through each and every small and large tough time they are rays of hope. As family and friends stand behind Callie and Eddie they can help them heal.
This read was raw, real, heartbreaking, desolate, breathtaking and beautiful all rolled into one emotional rollercoaster ride. Characters that will bring out all the emotions will take you on a wild ride so be prepared to laugh and cry.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for Kylie'e Fiction Addiction.
Silence is a very intriguing story of two broken souls that for better or worse need each other no matter how they fight against it. Eddie Diamond lead guitarist for Black Diamond is a mess, he is rude, crude and totally enjoys the Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll banner to which he lives. Until 1 unlikely fan brings out his human side. Callie is a mess as well - 34 year old ex junkie - she is trying to continue her 5 year sobriety and let go of massive guilt she's been living with. When an opportunity from an unexpected source puts her in the path of Eddie Diamond, it can be her worst mistake or her salvation. Callie and Eddie have a painful connection that, for some reason is not brought to light until almost 3/4 of the way through the book. I have to be honest here. I really liked the first 1/2 of the book, but the rest had waaay too much going on that just kept piling onto the characters and for me it almost came off as keep the story going at any cost. The situation with Black Diamond's Manager Alex was never really handled with a simple solution and for me totally unnecessary. That being said if you like the darker side of Rock romances (and I do), you will like this story.
This is so much more than just another rock romance. There are many tough topics covered in this book substance abuse, addiction, depression and death. I don’t want to include any spoilers but there are some extremely monumental moments. I loved this book and highly recommend it!
Eddie Diamond is the lead singer of rock band Black Diamond. He meets Sasha and falls in love with his biggest fan who happens to be her daughter Amelia. He’s a rock god, has money, alcohol, drugs and plenty of pussy is there any more a man could want. Eddie overindulges in everything and it is becoming a hazard to his health and effecting the band. Callie had a teenage pregnancy which resulted in the birth of her son Beau. She went down the path of addiction and after suffering some trauma she made some life changing decisions. Sasha asks her if she could help Eddie get clean because they were trying to avoid rehab. How can two broken people who are toxic together help one another. He is like a thorn in her side, refusing to make her life easy.
This book started a little slow for myself but once I got into it, the story was amazing. This book has angst, actually lots of it. This book made me cry. It hit close to home for myself. Eddie is a cliche of Rock star stardom. Drug addict, gods gift to women and just a cocky rocker. Until he meets his youngest fan he changes his ways and tries to be better. Then tragedy strikes and he is so much worse then ever. Callie is five years sober and just getting on her feet when asked to help this self centered Rock star. They form a bond, then tragedy strikes again can they overcome it?? Sobriety, love, tragedy, and whole lot of other circumstances and obstacles are in the way. Can these two fight for the loive that they deserve?? Well guess what tread the book. It was an awesome fast paced storyline and one I enjoyed so check it out. Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
I love Eddie Diamond. Arrogant, rude, uncaring as he is he is an awesome character. Callie's pretty cool too but I think Eddie's going to be up there with my other favourites.
Really enjoyed this book. Although perhaps enjoyed is the wrong word to use given the subjects it covers. Drug addiction, grief, suicidal thoughts, a rock star completely off the rails, a drug addict fighting to stay clean. It was refreshing to see none of it either demonized or romanticised to be honest, I've read more than a few books where it's one or the other. Nor was it a simple matter of waving a magic wand, all addiction gone and never to be thought of again.
I think the storyline had its faults. There were huge jumps in time where I'd have preferred to see something of what happened to the characters. And the issue with the manager was never addressed and I felt it should have been. But overall I really did enjoy the book and wouldn't hesitate to read another by the author.
I was not expecting this to hit as hard as it did.
Eddie is a broken shell, after losing someone he loves. And eventually, as a rockstar, his grief becomes the story, and the past is dredged up in all it's painful beauty.
Its not fluffy - we're dealing with repressed grief and addiction, denial, abuse, mental health struggles, abandonment, loss of a child, serious illness, self harm - its so gritty but its so beautifully captured. Self forgiveness is such a strong topic and man does Jaye Pratt jump in with both feet on this one.
It absolutely brought up emotions and i had to take a moment a few times, but I couldn't put it down. LOVED IT.
Tropes: Rock star romance, love after loss Forced Proximity, Strangers to Lovers, Found Family, Dual POV, Redemption, Emotional Steamroller!
Triggers: Loss of a child, Cancer, Substance abuse, Addiction, self-harm, mental health, death , gun violence, cheating / betrayal
I love a good rocker romance, but this wasn’t a good rocker romance... IT WAS AN AMAZING ROCKER ROMANCE. .. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It’s not often I can read a book in one sitting, but this was an exception.
Eddie Diamond is your typical rockstar, he loves all the perks. The chicks, the drinks, and the drugs. Sometimes he is a real DICK, but even at his dickiest you can’t help but love him and fell for him.
Callie Dean is sent in to help Eddie clean up his act, but once she's there and trying to help a man that doesn't want help she has to face her own demons.
Can two broken souls help each other mend, or are the temptations too much to try and resist?
This book has it all, I laughed, I cried and I yelled at them to "get their shit together." I can't praise this book or Jaye Cox enough.
This is the first book by Jaye Cox, she is a new author for me. I must say that I am so glad to have found her, the book was great. It isn't quite what you might think, he is a Rock Star with a lot going for him, but he doesn't just meet the perfect girl and fall in love. The story is gritty, raw, and sad at times but it is also sweet, sexy, and beautiful. They both have flaws and things go wrong, life isn't easy but the story really shows to true depth of love between a man and a woman, as well as the love we have for our siblings and for our children. It also shows how hard addiction can be on one's family and well as tragedy. An emotional story but well worth it when you see the love. I highly recommend you pick up a copy as soon as it is released. I was lucky to read an advance reader copy.
"Silence" by Jaye Cox is much more then just your typical rock star romance read. Sure, Eddie Diamond was a guitar god who liked the sex, drugs and rock n' roll, but there was much more depth to this rocker, which immediately drew me in. He previously had a purpose in life besides music as his vice, by the form of a mother and daughter, but the daughter was taken too soon.
Callie Dean was hired to be Eddie's "sober coach" and has been sober herself for five years, deeply affected by the death of her niece Amelia. She was an incredibly strong person, and wasn't a weak female character by any means. They fight their attraction for one another, but also facing their demons head on.
This was a darker romance , which I haven't seen much of in rock romance so to speak, so it was an emotional, but refreshing read.
Callie is an addict who has been sober for five years, Eddie is a famous musician whose life is spiralling out of control. Both have more in their life to connect them and both understand grief!
There were times in this story when the tears just rolled down my face, I found the story so touching. At other times the humour balanced things out and I found myself with a smirk on my face. The main thing is that it is so 'real life' even with a rockstar included, that's the point. This author truly has a wonderful grasp on addiction and the devastation it can have on the people closest to you.
I literally had to make myself put this book down to sleep as it is so absorbing and such and easy to read, smoothly executed story. My only problem now is that it's finished!
Be warned and be prepared to have your heart wrenched out as well as your emotions drained but it was all worth it to get an ending that you will want.
Addiction, loss and guilt are major factors in both Callie and Eddie's life. So without a doubt like attracts like in this book when Callie accepts a job to help him cope with his downward spiral that he seems to be on. Which is dangerous to Callie because she has her own demons and addictions. Parts of this book were genuinely heartbreaking and had me crying my eyes out at it. It's the characters that surround the main ones that made this book too. because they were the ones that have a bit of much needed laughs in some of the harder hitting parts.
An emotional read with characters that I felt for from the very first chapter. Loved It.
Wow, a story that gave me a book hangover. I was emotional even before chapter 1. This wasn't just a rock romance, it was so much more. Eddie is a rocker with a God complex; girls, fast cars, booze and drugs. The death of a little girl some years before that he was attached to sent him on a downward spiral. Callie a former addict herself is sent in to help him clean up his act. She comes with her own emotional baggage. How much more grief could be packed into this story? A lot! I loved every minute of it. I highly recommend this emotional roller coaster, break out the tissues and don't read in public.
If you're looking for a book that'll give you all the feels this is a great option! This book made me cry, it made me heart ache and I loved it.
Eddie and Callie have one of the biggest rollercoaster relationships I've read about in a while but despite there being a chance of them being purely toxic for each other they keep on battling. I was angry at Eddie, angry at Callie then my heart would break for them both.
Silence is the type of book that shows you life at its worst but that if you can just keep going things can get better. I'm not sure if Jaye plans to write about any more of the characters from Silence but I hope she does as I would love to hear more from them.
This has to be a favorite book for me. It's a story about loss, grieving, addiction, acceptance, and new beginnings. Jaye has told an exceptionally emotional story. It's not your normal, Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll story. This is about dealing with your grief and hitting rock bottom in addiction only to crawl back out of the pit of despair and learn to lean on someone else, to take their hand blindly and learn to live again. To accept your fate and make the best of an awful situation.
Callie and Eddie's story .... Heartbreaking! But in a good way!
I loved this book! Callie was an addict that hit rock bottom. Her son was taken away, and had tragically lost her brother. She decides to get sober, and was doing a good job. Eddie was a party hard rock star who sobered up after meeting a very sick little girl. After a tragedy of his own, he also hits rock bottom. Callie is hired to help Eddie regain his sobriety, and at first she's reluctant, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that he isn't such a bad person. This book has a happy ever after, and I hope the series continues so we can see Mickki's story. I reviewed this book for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
This definitely was an emotional read, filled with real life heartbreak and a journey of strength.
Eddie and Callie's lifestyles have brought them to search for the strength to continue on life's path. Both have had, and continue to have struggles.
What Eddie wasn't aware of, was that he and Callie's lives are inter-connected in a way that keeps them drawn to one in other. Almost each other's anchor.
Two broken souls desperate for another chance at happiness. A wonderful emotional roller-coaster of a read.
Contemporary, Rockstar, tear jerker, FMC and MMC both in 30’s, death of child, self harm, addiction, loss, drugs, alcohol, redemption, forced proximity, strangers to lovers, emotional scars.
Jaye has done it again. This one was so hard to put down but also so emotional.
When your a rockstar who finds your youngest fan who also has a life threatening illness what do you do but become friends with her and her mother. It’s one way to help you stay clean. When your break a promise to them what do you do but lose the plot completely and nearly ruin your career.
5 years later something happens that is going to help you with your addiction . You fight it like crazy but eventually great things come out of it.
Another ripper read from Jaye Cox. This lady is amazing how she plots and plans her books.
Be warned this one is emotional and will pull your heart strings and make you teary. This is a good thing though as the underlying message of Time heals all wounds; Together we are stronger; A problem shared is a problem halved all ring true.
Go and meet a sexy rock star & his lady for your next 10 star read.
The cliche sex, drugs and rock n roll is prevalent in spades in this book but, it is far from shallow. It highlights drug addiction, suicidal thoughts, grief and picking yourself up and crawling out of the hole that has been dug through self destructive behaviour. In the midst of all this carnage this book is ultimately a story of two broken souls finding each other. Totally unexpected, captivating, emotional read.
