With nothing going as planned, will Christmas be a complete disaster this year?
The people in these stories are tired, weighed down by the struggles and cares of life. In the midst of their challenging situations, each receives an unexpected letter.
❅ The Christmas Kiss – Stacy Monson ❅ Unremarkable Sue – Eleanor Bertin ❅ Love, Christmas – Johnnie Alexander ❅ Gifting Christmas – Angela D. Meyer ❅ The Back Door Christmas Tour Company – Sara Davison
Songs like "O Holy Night"are filling the airwaves and promising hope for a weary world, but what will it take for the men and women in these stories to experience true joy this Christmas?
A Weary World Rejoices is a collection of five stories about discovering joy in the midst of life's challenges—at Christmas and every day of the year.
This was another lovely Christmas anthology from the Mosaic author group! This anthology started with The Christmas Kiss by Stacy Monson. Though this story stands alone, it continues her story from Sounds Like a Plan with the same characters and story line. I was glad to catch up with Piper and Finn once again. When Piper's store is broken into a few short weeks before Christmas, she is blown away by the response of her shop's neighbors and building manager. The next story was Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin, which is connected to another story by this author that I haven't read. In spite of that, I was able to thoroughly enjoy Sue's story and how she comes to love her friend's family and become another daughter to them. The next story is Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander. As Shannon is grieving the recent loss of her mother, she comes across a box in her mom's Christmas stuff that reminds her of a great Christmas and she decides to re-start the tradition. This story, though super short, really brought home the message of giving. The next story is Gifting Christmas by Angela D Meyer. When a blizzard hits on Christmas Eve, Karen and Barry forego their plans to close their bed and breakfast for the holidays and open to a most unlikely grouping of strangers, which created some drama/headaches, but also brought about a wonderful Christmas. And the last story, which was the longest and my favorite of the bunch is The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davisson. When Rav Temauri learns that his big brother (who we met in The Color of Sky and Stone, but you won't be lost if you haven't read that one) is not coming home for Christmas this year after all, he goes in search of belonging in the place of his family's roots. What he finds is so much more than that.
Though only connected by the theme of something going wrong at the holidays (and the characters therefore being "weary"), the stories within the collection had no real connection and were different in their genres, styles and voices. In my opinion, this made it that much more enjoyable because I got 5 unique stories for the price of 1! It also helped break up the flow of the book so there was no monotony in the reading. I could easily read one of the stories in a sitting and that made it easier to consume. Each story had characters that I liked and was able to relate to. Each story had an interesting plot-line, good character development, a solid faith thread and a happy ending. All in all, this was a great holiday collection read and one I'd easily recommend to anyone who enjoys inspirational Christmas stories. Special thanks to the authors for an advance e-copy of this anthology. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
Sweet collection of novellas and short stories left me with a smile.
My favorite was the opening novella with Piper and Finn. What a beautiful slow-burn romance with a strong Christian male who exhibited kindness and caring toward those around him. I loved how serving others played a role in the way the romance unfolded.
I enjoyed the other stories included in the collection. One author chose to reveal a backstory/prequel of a character from her other novels. The theme of serving others was strong in that one.
Two of the stories were very short Christmas-themed tales. I enjoyed them. The last had some suspense that carried me to the end of the collection.
In all, the collection is a quick read – about the length of a Love Inspired novel. Fans of clean, sweet stories with a touch of faith will enjoy it.
Romance: Squeaky clean. Faith: Christian worldview, mention of prayer and attending church. Light spiritual arc.
I received an advanced copy of this book courtesy of the publisher through Just Read Tours. All opinions are my own.
This collection of “weary” people facing trials at Christmas and finding faith and the joy of God working in their life was encouraging. I enjoyed them all.
The Christmas Kiss-Chocolate, a little suspense, and a sweet romance. Piper learned what friends will do for a friend in need. And that God has a hand in her life. I enjoyed Piper and Finn’s story.
Unremarkable Sue- Sweet story of Sue, who serves faithfully and loves with her whole heart and Glen who almost missed out on her love.
Love, Christmas- A short story about one woman whose cherished Christmas memory turned into a chain of people spreading love to those around them that needed extra cheer.
Gifting Christmas- A short story about how good it is to look beyond yourself and be selfless to others in need.
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company- An interesting story of a group of travelers that are brought together for a week and none of them know why. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the group and how they opened up and shared. Rav and Xavier, what a connection! I enjoyed it the most in the group.
This ARC was provided through the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review, rating and opinions are my own.
A Weary World Rejoices is a Mosaic Christmas anthology that exemplifies the spirit of community, love, caring for others, and giving that the Christmas season is all about.
Some stories were short, which makes this book a quick read. It also makes you wish the stories were longer because just when you want more, it ends.
The Christmas Kiss, by Stacy Monson, shows what happens when a community pulls together after a chocolate store is broken into. I liked the blossoming romance between Finn and Piper and how he and his church show Jesus in action to someone who doesn’t believe.
UnRemarkable Sue, by Eleanor Bertin, follows Sue Roundell, who goes above and beyond to help an elderly couple enjoy the Christmas season. The author did a fantastic job of dealing with mental illness. I was touched by how Sue cared so much for this family she didn’t belong to.
Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander, is a reminder to bring joy to others during the Christmas season. The premise of the story is awesome, but with four brief chapters, I felt this book needed more story development.
Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer, finds a husband and wife welcoming people into their closed bed & breakfast for the holiday season, during a horrible snowstorm. Unfortunately, their guests were selfish and somewhat mean and didn’t seem to appreciate what the owners were doing for them.
One mother with young children needed Christmas to be a memorable occasion. And while it was nice to see how this story ended, it left me wondering how the selfish characters in the story changed overnight. While the message was clear about helping others instead of thinking of ourselves, this story, while good, still felt like it had some loose ends.
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison was my favourite of all the books in this anthology. This well-developed story was magical, and I loved how the characters grew and how prayer was a major factor in the changes in their lives.
Overall, A Weary World Rejoices is an excellent book to read to prepare yourself for the Christmas season as many of the stories are reminders to think of others before yourself.
I received a complimentary copy from the author for my honest review.
The Christmas Kiss- Stacy Monson What is not to like about a chocolate shop, a hunky hero and a damsel in distress! The Depot shop owners all band together when disaster strikes one of their own. The building owner is a Christian who heads up the effort to pitch in to save Pip Devine and her shop. Well written clean romance. Unremarkable Sue- Elinor Bertin A story about sweet and steady, faith filled Sue. Sue just did what she had to and provided a great environment to support others. Something we could all aspire to. Love, Christmas- Johnnie Alexander Short but sweet story of passing along needed gifts at Christmas time- with love. Christmas should be a time of joy and giving to otheres. This story personifies the loving spirit. Gifting Christmas- Angela D. Meyer Discover the true gift of giving joy to others. Out of a blizzard and chaos comes realizing what giving to others can mean. A blessing to the downtrodden and then for themselves. Great story. The Back Door Christmas Tour Company- Sara Davison A group of strangers go on a tour just before Christmas in Tahiti. What they find surpises them. They are led by a sweet couple who cares about their specific welfare and their physical wellbeing. Surreal in a way but they see God working in their lives. Very well done. A great group of novellas showing the true spirit of the season. *I received a complimentary copy from Mosaic publishing. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are mine alone.*
It's that special time of year when I get to read and review Christmas books, and I feel really lucky for this opportunity.
"A Weary World Rejoices" is a lovely collection of uplifting stories from five different authors. Some stories are shorter than others, but they all deliver strong messages. Each one is unique, yet they share beautiful lessons for readers. Every tale features characters facing tough situations and challenges that many people encounter during the holiday season.A common theme of all five stories is that each character receives a letter that transforms their mindset and emotions. This book can also fill your life with that Christmas spirit, encouraging you to give more than just receive.
This anthology would make a great gift for anyone who might be feeling lonely during Christmas. Reading these stories truly inspired me, reminding me that if we let Him, God can play an important role in our lives.
I wasn't altogether sure what to expect of this collection - collections can be a mixed bag, and perhaps particularly Christmas collections. But I'm so glad I gave it a go. Each story, however short or long, was an enjoyable read and held an inspiring message. And a couple are really very short - but they feel complete none the less. I particularly appreciated the second story, with a heroine who's always in the background, doing her best in life but really nothing special - except that that in itself makes her special. An underrated type of heroine, though it needs to be done well. In the end, though, I think the last was my favourite - though at first I admit to being a little put off by the 'weirdness'. But it all came together so beautifully and with such an amazing idea, not at all weird once the secrets are disclosed - I really loved it, it's inspiring. All in all, if you're looking for a book that will at once entertain and present the true spirit of Christmas, this is definitely it. Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Sweet story! It was a delight to see old characters. The joy and delight of Christmas was so evident in this novella.
Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin. This novella is precious. Sue is a character worthy of emulation. Her lifestyle of service was so admirable. I enjoyed reading about her and the Hardys.
Love Christmas by Johnnie Alexander So heartwarming and sweet. It reminded me of one of the joys of Christmas; giving.
Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer Oh dear! Such a beautiful book. I had tears in my eyes at the end. It was heartwarming to experience the pure joy of giving.
The Backdoor Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison
Surprises upon surprises best explains this novella. I love how different people came together and gave each other a home.
Mosaic Collection books have even blessing my heart since from the first one and this one was no exception.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion
I loved this anthology of Christmas stories. They all seemed to be just what I needed to think about. These stories will inspire you. And they are perfect reading any time of the year.
A Weary World Rejoices is an anthology with five new to me authors. This anthology was a quick read and easy read to get you in the Christmas spirit. If you are someone short on time, this is the book for you. The stories were all different lengths, but there were some short ones.
It is hard to give each story a fair review without writing my own book. So I will try to do my best to keep it short. The Christmas Kiss: was a cute story. Though I want to hear more of the story. Unremarkable Sue: was a cute short story that gave a moral to the story of seeing the bigger picture. Love, Christmas:was a cute story about passing on the Christmas cheer of gift giving. Gifting Christmas: was a cute story about giving to those less fortunate and not being so quick to judge. The Back Door Christmas Tour Company: was a cute story about how some Christians pray about who God wants them to invite to a special vacation. It was a really neat concept.
Overall, the character development was good for the length of these short stories. There is a good variety of characters, and each story is unique.
Each storyline was different and gave a unique variety. From a shopping center to rural small town, a B&B, to Tahiti. There is some variety for all.
The romance was light and perfect. Nothing over the top. Just some light kissing.
Christian element was there in all stories, though mostly a little on the light side. Though each story was unique.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Stories of hope, in the midst of trials. How one act of kindness can change one's out look, sometimes leading to a chain reaction, leading others to hope & see God. Sone characters met before in previous stories, either directly or indirectly, some new to me characters. All stories are an enjoyable read.
In the first book of this anthology, The Christmas Kiss, we meet Piper and Finn, whom we've met before. This time, The Depot is up and running, and everyone is looking forward to a great Christmas season. That is, until Piper goes to open her store one morning and finds that someone has broken in and created a total mess and destroyed everything. As her fellow Depot tenants come together to help her, she realizes that she doesn't have to do everything alone. When a local church lets her use their kitchen, and she talks to Pastor Blake every day, she realizes that no one is treating her badly there, either. When she realizes that God really has helped her, and that Finn has, too, she's more open to hearing what Finn has to say after she jumped to the wrong conclusions. This Christmas just may be their best one yet! I need more of Piper and Finn's story!
In the second book, Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin, we meet up with Sue and Glen again. I LOVE their story!! Sue and Glen have known each other since Sue was eleven and was best friends with Glen's sister Myra. Now, Myra has left town, Glen is in college, and Sue is happy working at the diner and being there for Glen's parents. When it becomes apparent that Glen's dad needs more help than his wife or Sue can give him, Sue takes him to the ER. It just so happens that's also the day Glen comes to town for Christmas. Glen has always seen Sue as his little sister's best friend, and hasn't thought about that changing, until he over hears her talking to his parents. When both of his parents make it clear that if he doesn't keep her from leaving he'll be missing out on the best thing that's ever happened to him, he listens! Love how everything works out!!
In Love Christmas by Johnnie Alexander, we meet a host of wonderful people! Shannon finds an empty box that reminds her of one of her best Christmas's ever, and decides to pass it over. She finds out that not only did she help one person, but it snowballed and helped many more! Great addition to this collection!
In Gifting Christmas, we meet Karen and Barry, the owners of a B & B, who are expecting their first child. Last Christmas was almost their last Christmas together, but thanks to their pastor, they are in counseling and doing better. This Christmas, with a snow storm headed their way, they were prepared for a nice, quiet Christmas as all of their guests left, and they've given all of their employees some time off. However, God had other plans! Several people are stranded, and come to the B & B. The last ones to come are a mother and her three children. This Christmas isn't what any of them invisioned, though it is the one they all need!! Love this! Can't say much or it will give too much away!! I usually find one story that I love more than the others, but so far, that's not the case with this anthology!! All of these are great!!!
In The Back Door Christmas Tour Company, we meet a group of travelers who aren't sure why they've been brought together. Each has a story to tell, and each has much to give and share with the others. Through their week touring with their hosts, they're paired up with their fellow travelers to get to know each other. Rav is one the travelers, and another is Annie. Neither is looking for love, neither is sure they deserve love, and both are afraid to reach out. When they do, the discover more than they thought they would. Love how Rav isn't afraid to continue trying to reach Xavier, and how he comes to know that what he's really seeking is a what, but a Who, and decides he's going to keep seeking that relationship when he returns home. I need more of this story, too, to find out what happens to each when they return home!
This collection is sooooooo good! And, I do NOT have a favorite this time! Each one is special is its own way.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
The weariness of the holidays can affect us all in different ways and that is perfectly exemplified in A Wear World Rejoices, the latest Mosaic anthology.
The compilation kicks off with The Christmas Kiss by Stacy Monson and I audibly squealed when I read the first page. If you’ve read the novella Piper’s Sweet Dream in the Sounds Like a Plan anthology, then you’ll recognize this story right away. I adored getting to know Piper and Finn and was so excited to see their story continue. Stacy does a great job of catching the reader up and seeing these two together again was such a treat. Seeing all the love and support that Piper receives from her community was so heartwarming after she’s endured so much. This was such a great start to the anthology, a wonderful surprise, and I hope that Finn and Piper will pop up again one day.
Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin is the next novella and this little unassuming story is truly a diamond in the rough, with the focus on a character that loves with her entire being and wants nothing for herself. She serves others unabashedly and is ok to not be noticed, feeling blessed to just exist with good people. Oftentimes we see heroines that are boisterous and want to stand out so to have the focus on such a quiet, yet powerful presence is refreshing.
Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander is the shortest novella in the bunch but it’s so sweet and such a wonderful concept that boils down to the unexpected effects of paying it forward. Due to its short length everything is kept surface level and sadly I was wanting more. This story felt more like a filler, which was heartbreaking as this story had so much potential. I would love to see this become a full novel in the future.
“Gifting is the best way to discover what you’re searching for” and this rings true in Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer. A group of strangers are forced to spend the holidays together and after a rocky start they are collectively reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. Though it wasn’t the Christmas they’d planned for it was exactly what they all needed and despite the short length there was quite a bit of nuance in this story. This story hit my heart harder than expected and is incredibly touching. It is a great reminder that it is better to give than receive and sometimes we don’t get what we expect but we do get what we need.
The collection ends with the longest story in the batch, and my personal favorite, The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison. You can feel all the feels with this one. There is mystery that surrounds the entire trip itself, as well as the enigma that surrounds each person that is there with our protagonist, Rav. This could’ve easily been a standalone novel, and I would’ve been here for it! There is plenty of depth and character development despite the shorter length and I felt myself connecting with these flawed and beautiful characters despite the short amount of time that I got to know them. The end had me grinning from ear to ear, yet sad at the same time, as my time with this anthology had sadly come to a close.
While I have loved every Mosaic book that I’ve read so far (and there have been many) there is just something so special about the anthologies. I love how I can read a story in one sitting and have even been able to revisit other stories in this collection, which was exciting. I love how the length of each novella varies and how each story is so different, yet they all hold the same message and point to the same Truth. I can see this being a book that I come back to for years to come and feel immensely blessed that I had the opportunity to read it.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
As usual, the Mosaic ladies have written some wonderful stories. In some, we visit characters we have met in previous books. In others we meet new characters.
The Christmas Kiss by Stacy Monson - In this story we revisit Piper Devine and her chocolate business and Finn the good looking property manager. She again encounters a challenging situation but through it she discovers she has people who care about her. She also learns to trust God. Monsoon has created relatable characters that readers want to know more about. I look forward to reading more about Piper and Finn.
Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin - Bertin gives us the backstory to one of the characters in a previous book, which I really enjoyed. Sue is a reliable faux member of the Hardy family - always there when they need a little help. She does things that support the family, sometimes without being asked. She lives the quiet Christian life that many of us should emulate. Unremarkable Sue gives the reader some things to think about. I look forward to reading more in the Burning Bright series.
Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander - Oh, this story was just wonderful and reminded me of a similar incident in my family’s history when we received an anonymous cash gift at a time when money was tight.. Alexander uses this delightful story to remind all of us of the meaning of Christmas and to anonymously bless others at Christmas. I’d love to see more stories about these characters.
Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer - Gifting Christmas is another delightful story about giving of yourself at Christmas but also not judging others when you don’t know the whole story. Many of the characters in this story have a true change of heart which is very encouraging and changes the whole mood at this “accidental” Christmas gathering. I look forward to reading more in Meyer’s Applewood Hill series.
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison - I think The Back Door Christmas Tour Company is the longest of the stories in this anthology. Davison focuses the story on one of the minor characters in the first book of her In the Shadows series. Rav runs away to his ancestral homeland when he is disappointed that his oldest brother won’t be coming home for Christmas. At first it seems there is a little mysticism in how all the characters end up together, but in the end readers discover that prayer was involved. Each of the characters in this story seem to be running from something or looking for something. The conversations between characters not only causes Rav to deepen his relationship with God, it will also challenge readers to examine their own hearts and minds. Two of the relationships that Rav develops over the course of this story could become permanent. I look forward to seeing how they develop in future books from Davison
I received a complimentary copy of A Weary World Rejoices. This is my honest review.
A Weary World Rejoices is a collection of Christmas stories that is perfect for getting us in the right frame of mind for the Christmas season. The stories in this collection show how friendship, support, caring and a sense of community are what really matters. It is a blessing to be able to help others in their time of need, give companionship to the lonely and be used by God to show His love to others.
The Christmas Kiss was a story about a young woman, Piper, opening her own chocolate business. Despite her hard work she suffers a series of setbacks due to sabotage. Reeling from the hurt she feels defeated. Piper is surprised to find she is supported by her community and her landlord, Finn. They help lift her up, and show her God’s love when she wasn’t sure she even believed in Him.
Unremarkable Sue is a story about a young woman who is mentored by her friend’s mother. Sue cares about her friend’s parents, and helps them with work on the farm learning everything she can. She also helps with the father’s mental illness and severe depression when their children leave home. Sue has feelings for their son, Glen, but sets those aside as she cares for the people she wishes were her family.
Love, Christmas is a short story about the true Christmas spirit. Gifting anonymously inspires others to pay it forward. Soon the whole community is taking part in spreading joy to others.
Gifting Christmas is the story of a young couple expecting their first child. They run a B&B and are taking time off for Christmas closing down to spend time together. People show up stranded in the snowstorm. The young couple changes their plans and let them stay. When a young family shows up in need the others don’t want them there. Even though the story ends with them deciding it is better to give than receive it still was hard to get over the way they acted. This story showed the selfish, rude and materialistic side that sometimes comes out during the holidays, and how ugly it is.
The Back Door Christmas Company was my favorite of the stories. Random strangers find themselves in Tahiti for Christmas. They are all weary and beat down by circumstances in their lives. They are each searching for something. Unbeknownst to each other they are invited to a week long tour all expenses paid. Through the week they are paired up with a different person each day. While they get to know each other they find what they were searching for, and are a blessing to each other. As the week ends they realize they are all where they were supposed to be, and it was an answer to prayer that brought them together not chance.
This anthology was excellent. I highly recommend reading this book. I know that going into the holiday season I am inspired to be praying for ways I can be a blessing to others. I was given a copy of the book for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
Life is hard at times and we all experience that. It is a joy to read stories of characters that experience hard but find God’s peace within that. The Mosaic Collection brought together in A Weary World Rejoices are wonderful and cheering. I found each of the stories hope-filled. Brought together through trials and weariness, hope is to be found.
The Christmas Kiss was a fun continuation of the story of a chocolate shop (from Sounds Like A Plan) and how community pulls together to make the difficult not so hard. The community around the store and the community of believers bring a new perspective to Piper, helping her find hope and God once more. You will enjoy this continuation of the story of Piper, her chocolate shop, and her landlord Finn.
Unremarkable Sue is the story of a young lady whose family is just, well, not. But Sue is enveloped in love from another family as she grows. She is loyal and true to the family and that brings to her the love of a true family.
Love, Christmas tells of seeing others around you and helping them without expecting anything in return. This brings about an ongoing gifting of hope within the entire community at Christmastime, when many need it most.
Gifting Christmas is something unexpected, just as the snowstorm that meant the bed and breakfast that was supposed to be closed for Christmas is opened. While it was not what anyone wanted for their holiday, perhaps it can turn out to be something special after all.
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company was a delightful story about a week long tour for travelers who didn’t know they needed this tour. It brings together many who are weary and heart sore, allowing each to be among others who also need someone at Christmas. Their stories bind them together and heal what they didn’t really even know needed healed. A delight full of hope, being seen, and filling needs.
No story really stood out more than the others because they each were their own nugget of beautiful storytelling. You will enjoy this collection of stories set at Christmastime. Allow it to change your view of others and just how weary they might be. Allow it to change your own perspective. It will and it will be wonderful. A definite worthwhile read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
"A Weary World Rejoices" is a line from one of my all-time favorite Christmas hymns. In this collection of short stories and novellas, it also describes the weight of the world--and the need for refreshment and life--that are on several people one Christmas. Five authors bring this idea to life in their stories, with different locales, individuals, challenges, and in the end, offer hope not only to their characters but to the reader as well.
Chocolatier and shop owner Piper meets some significant challenges in "The Christmas Kiss." She might be surprised by the help that's about to be offered to her! Eleanor Bertin's "Unremarkable Sue" tells the story of a (to me) most remarkable young woman, who has unusual qualities and faithfulness to offer a family in need. In "Love, Christmas," from Johnnie Alexander, a special box makes its way from one member of a community to the other, with the unexpected ready to meet each one. An almost ready-to-pop mother-to-be and her husband are expecting one kind of Christmas at their B&B. Instead, in "Gifting Christmas," they make a real difference in lives of all kinds. And in the book's last novella, "The Back Door Christmas Tour Company," Rav, who's traveled to Tahiti on impulse, finds himself on a series of tours with strangers that impacts him uniquely (and sweetly).
This book of short, rich stories is just the thing for you this Christmas, when you want to sit down and refresh your spirit--but don't have a lot of time to do so. Enter in to A Weary World Rejoices: A Mosaic Christmas Anthology VI and remember the One who really makes our weary world rejoice.
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.
An eclectic collection of short stories and novellas that celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Each story focuses on discovering love, generosity and hope in the midst of troubles during the holiday season.
The Christmas Kiss by Stacy Monson – Warning: chocolate cravings guaranteed if you read this story! Piper’s new chocolate shop is a bustling success, until disaster strikes and threatens her business. Property manager Finn is eager to come to her rescue and a sweet, awkward, hesitant romance begins to blossom.
Uremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin – A short story featuring a young woman who is often overlooked as she quietly serves others until her true worth is finally recognized.
Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander – Another short story that illustrates the beauty of giving. A grieving widow plays secret Santa to a struggling college student and the mystery gift giving snowballs through the town.
Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer – Weary innkeepers who have closed their inn for the holidays (and a much deserved rest) welcome in a diverse mix of stranded travellers in the middle of a snowstorm. Chaos ensues and everyone one very nearly misses out on the spirit of Christmas!
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison – Christmas in Tahiti! This novella has a mysterious air, an almost magical (supernatural) element which set the mood beautifully. A group of strangers are gathered together to create a memorable Christmas holiday that somehow meets all their varied needs. It features a significant inspirational thread that is seamlessly woven throughout the story and includes a light romance.
A Weary World Rejoices is a wonderful anthology of several short novellas. You’re definitely going to want to grab a warm drink and settle in for a cosy read. There are several wonderful authors in this book. Plus the stories will grab your attention and not let you go. I happened to love some of these authors and could not wait to see what they were going to share.
Welcome to the holidays! Where everything is wonderful and rosy, where it’s just perfect. Oh wait, it’s not. The main theme in this anthology is that it’s the holidays and our main characters are having a rough go of it. Life is hard. Life is messy. And that is portrayed here.
I love Sara Davison. Her portion of this book covers a character that we met in The Color of Sky and Stone. I loved that book and though I will say you should definitely read it first, that’s not mandatory and you won’t be lost in this novella if you don’t. I’m going to guarantee you’ll love this anthology. I did!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
I really enjoy books that have a Christmas Theme. I also really enjoy Anthology books. A Weary World Rejoices: A Mosaic Christmas Anthology VI by Stacy Monson, Eleanor Bertin, Johnnie Alexander, Angela D. Meyer, Sara Davison is the latest of these genres that I have read.
WOW, the theme of this book really hit home. I enjoy the Christmas season but it also brings "Holiday Anxiety" each year. I always want the holidays to be perfect and sometimes that doesn't happen due to circumstances that I cannot control. Each of the 5 stories in this book is written by a different author, but they all have something in common. The stories happen in the midst of the Christmas season and they all tell a story of struggle or unforeseen circumstances. The stories also show how the Community, Family and Friends come to help and/or support the main characters receive while navigating the circumstances of their Predictment. The stories also show that God's love and the faith of those who trust will always prevail. God is so Good! The weariness of the Holiday season can be given to God and he will be there. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the Christmas Season and needs encouragement during the Holiday Season. FANTASTIC BOOK!
A Weary World Rejoices was a delightful and heartfelt collection of Christmas stories from five different authors. Though all the stories were unique, they each held the thread of hope even when things are not going quite how the characters think they should be. In each story, the main character received a letter that changes their outlook on life making this the common theme of the collection.
The faith elements were carefully woven in the stories and though the stories length varied, each held a hopeful message for readers.
I think this book makes the perfect evening read for the colder months ahead and you could easily stretch it over several nights since it contains five individual stories.
Encouraging and full of Christmas spirit, this anthology would make a wonderful gift for anyone who might be struggling with their hope and joy this holiday season, reminding us no matter what, God is the Author of all our stories.

This collection of five inspirational Christmas short stories was a delightful way to ease into the festive season. Written by five different authors, they all have a theme of finding joy amidst weariness and struggles, and offer heartwarming cheer to the reader:
The Christmas Kiss by Stacy Monson Unremarkable Sue by Eleanor Bertin Love, Christmas by Johnnie Alexander Gifting Christmas by Angela D. Meyer The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison
I especially enjoyed The Christmas Kiss, a slow burn romance between a chocolate shop owner and her landlord… I feel like this could even be developed into a Christmas novella, as I grew to love the main characters, Piper and Finn. The last story, The Back Door Christmas Tour Company was also an intriguing read—mysterious and a little magical with a beautiful depiction of answered prayers. If you like bite-sized nuggets in your Christmas reading, this anthology is well worth reading. I received a complimentary copy from the authors through Interviews and Reviews.
I find it hard to summarize collections of stories like this. I loved the theme that draws these stories together, being that each of the main characters is going through a hard time during the holidays. Whether that is the loss of a loved one, opening your home/Bed and Breakfast to strangers stranded during a snow storm, searching for roots amidst disappointment, having your shop broken into, or loving on those around you. This is a wonderful collection of stories to read before the holiday season (though I can see picking it up any time of the year!). Some of the stories are tied to others written by the authors, but can be enjoyed on their own merit.
I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.
This anthology of hurting, “weary” souls struggling through hard times and heartache at Christmas time really touched my soul!! Although some stories were shorter, all of the stories showed characters finding joy and healing in the Savior. I loved the fact the all the stories were totally different, yet all had well developed characters and plot lines. Even the shortest story still had depth to it, and had me smiling as the story concluded. My favorite was probably the last one The Back Door Christmas Tour by Sara Davison. The story kept me guessing throughout and then brought everything together in a sweet ending that wrapped everything up with a bow! I highly recommend this book, especially for those hurting and searching for more during the Christmas season as well as all year long!!
Wow! This book pulls on your heartstrings and never lets go. I ran through a whole gamut of emotions: sorrow, disappointment, doubt, displayed in the writings of each author in this anthology and ended up with one word, “Joy!” I met some old friends, made some new ones, enjoyed wise encouragement, and learned some hilarious lyrics for some classic songs that had me chortling with glee. Each author is a gifted storyteller and worthy of support individually. Together they are unbeatable! What a wonderful God who brings us unexplainable contentment in every situation. I highly recommend this book.
The Back Door Christmas Tour Company by Sara Davison A sweet Christian Christmas novella tied to the book “The Color of Stone and Sky.” This story pulls you in with an overseas holiday trip and some questions (that we share with our main character) about what is happening. With Island exploring, this read gives you some beachy feels and excitement. There was Providence and a journey towards faith. Curiosity kept me turning the pages wondering at this thread of Providential mystery. There was healing and a light thread of romance. I’m hoping to see more of some of these characters in future Davison books.
This is one of the very best Christmas anthologies that I've had the pleasure of reading. Each story has at least one character dealing with a problem that has wearied them. The authors have different writing styles and have written unique plots so the collection is varied, but every story is so good! They made me feel with the characters, and they made me think. The stories show the faithfulness of God and the joy to be found through Him. I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this collection of well-written and uplifting stories.
Every single story in this set was truly inspirational. Touching. Thought-provoking. Deep. I enjoyed every single one, and would like to read more from each other, given the opportunity. Was just what I needed at this time of the year, when the world is so obsessed with evil, commercialism and self. Highly recommend it if you need a more meaningful touch. The quote sums it up for me:“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” - C.S. Lewis
I have enjoyed every Mosaic collection I have read, and this one was no exception. Although two of the stories stood out to me, I enjoyed them all. My favorites were Unremarkable Sue and The Back Door Christmas Tour Company. I liked the first of these because it was about someone who just quietly did what was right and was contented with an ordinary life, and the second because of the unusual setting (Tahiti) and the way the characters made discoveries about themselves and worked through issues in their lives during the week in which they were together. I recommend this anthology for when you want something easy to read and also easy to set down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, and these are my honest thoughts about it.
The first stories were good. The very last story was great. Our hero is very empathetic. As the story unfolds we meet and feel each character’s painful struggle and how it works out. Almost the best is feeling the awakening of the special feeling as the love of your life grows into something so special. But even this high is then eclipsed with the wonderful infilling of God. There is a reason old stories are retold. They’re just so good!
