My Baby Can Dance: Stories of Autism, Asperger's and Sucess through the Relationship Development Intervention Program.

Rate this book
My Baby Can Dance is for anyone who needs a reminder about what makes everyday social encounters so wonderful and why sometimes, the simplest forms of communication can lead to the most wonderful moments. For parents of children affected by autism, it is hard to identify exactly when their child slipped away. For one mother it was after planting flowers, for another it was one night in his sleep, for many more it was already too late to say goodbye. The stories in this book are of families that are all very different, and yet, their struggles are strikingly similar. They have made mistakes, they have cried and laughed and prayed. And, in the end, they have done it all for the love of a child. Along with the remarkable stories of RDI® families is a message of hope - that in their own time and in their own way these children will find their way back home. I should have paid more attention to the title of this book.."stories". It is not about how to implement RDI or learning what RDI is, and is not really by Dr. Gutstein but essays from different families that have used, and had success with RDI. The stories where insipiring and did make me want to learn more about RDI. Maybe would have got more stars if I had a better understanding of what RDI is and how it works. I have put Dr. Gutstein's other book on RDI on my to read book. I probably should have read that one first.

Loved the book... Such inspiring stories of families which were reunited because of the therapy. And since I am in touch with an RDI Consultant, it is easier to understand the techniques which consultants talk about.

People who don't know much about RDI will find these stories hard to believe. But I've seen the techniques work for families and children first hand... Must read for any family which has been affected by the spectrum...

Short personal memoirs of families affected by autism that use relationship development intervention with their children. Tells just enough to get you interested, but not enough to really understand what is involved. New therapy method that I will have to do more research on.
