Colette, the quintessential New York 'it-girl,' has a life many envy. But as her 40th birthday nears, she feels an undeniable void. Seeking a unique gift, she discovers a set of ancient North African keys—but what she doesn't know is that the keys come with ownership of an ancient mansion steeped in magic, historical intrigue, and family feuds.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of modern Africa, Colette embarks on an unexpected journey that takes her far from the familiar streets of New York. As she unlocks each door of the riad mansion, she delves deeper into its hidden passages and whispered legends, revealing stories of love, betrayal, and long-buried secrets. Each room holds a puzzle that Colette must piece together, not only to understand the riad's mysterious past but to find her true self.
The riad is not without its dangers. As Colette unravels the mysteries that lie within, she encounters a tapestry of characters—some seeking to help, others intent on keeping the riad's secrets hidden at any cost.
Will the keys to the riad be the key to her happiness? Or will they open up the door to ruin?

I usually avoid books like this since fiction isn’t my preference, but the cover of this one caught my eye. It looked mysterious, and I felt compelled to learn more about the woman on it and why she was in such a wonderful and mysterious place.
The plot is captivating, with each chapter introducing a new secret (tiny spoilers ahead): the ritual connected to the golden ring keys, Pierre’s coin, Moroccan traditions and celebrations, djinns, and the Conver family. These aren’t major spoilers, and there’s still so much more to uncover in a story filled with intrigue and unforgettable characters.
This novel sweeps you straight into the heart of Morocco—a world woven with magic, mystery, and quiet romance. CD Damitio crafts an atmospheric tale that feels both otherworldly and deeply human. Colette, a glamorous New Yorker, finds herself entangled in the secrets of an ancient riad, and as the story unfolds, Marrakech comes alive through lush, sensory descriptions that almost breathe. The blend of metaphysical elements and emotional depth keeps you turning pages, while the love story adds warmth and resonance. A beautifully written journey of self-discovery and enchantment that lingers long after the final page.
I really enjoyed The Keys to the Riad. Colette’s story beautifully blends mystery, magic, and self-discovery. The Moroccan setting felt vivid and immersive, and the riad itself was almost a character of its own. While a few parts moved a bit slowly, the emotional depth and intrigue made up for it. Overall, a captivating read that leaves you reflecting long after finishing.
I don’t usually read fiction, but this book completely drew me in. The story is full of mystery, culture, and a touch of romance. I loved how real Morocco felt—the sights, sounds, and traditions came to life. The Tarot details and secrets of the raid kept me turning the pages. A beautiful and engaging read!
