Lorne Simpkins #8

Hostile Justice

Rate this book
Enticed back to the police force, Lorne again teams up with Katy, her former partner. Things are no longer the same between them, though. Katy is now Lorne's superior which could prove detrimental to their latest investigation.

The crime itself is perplexing: Four small boys discover the corpse of a woman in an abandoned warehouse. CCTV footage shows the woman was abducted in broad daylight by two hooded men. When questioned, the woman's husband swears she had no known enemies and he thought she was on holiday at the time of her death.

During the investigation a personal problem unfolds for Lorne when her teenage, daughter, Charlie, attends a friend's eighteenth birthday party - with dire consequences.

My ongoing like / can't stand relationship continues with this series.

Some of them so far have been ok but this one I didn't enjoy at all. It's all so predictable and the characters are useless. Badly written and poor story line.

Here's hoping the next book picks it back up again.

At the time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Lorne Warner is back with a boom in Mel Comley's latest and much anticipated addition to her Justice series, 'Hostile Justice'.

After some persuasion by her husband Tony, her former boss Sean Roberts and ex partner Katy Foster, Lorne quits her PI duties and returns to the force for the third time. Tony and her daughter Charlie are now in charge of running the animal shelter. Once again Lorne is working with Katy, but their roles have now been exchanged. Due to her retirement from the force, Lorne is now back to DS, while Katy has in the meantime been promoted to DI.

Immediately after a warm welcome back by her colleagues, Lorne finds herself in the midst of a gruesome murder investigation. A headless woman's body is discovered by four young boys in an abandoned warehouse. Katy and Lorne have no clues regarding the woman's identity, however from the expensive diamond ring and clothing, they quickly deduce that she must have surely been a wealthy woman.

Whilst investigating the woman's murder, Lorne quickly finds another equally heinous crime case dropped in her lap - this time closer to home. Her daughter Charlie is invited to her best friend Wendy's eighteenth birthday party which unfortunately does not end up as intended.

I literally couldn't put this book down and finished devouring it whole in just a few hours. Like the rest of the series, 'Hostile Justice' is brim-full with suspense and loaded with interesting and believable characters and realistic dialogue. I'm absolutely certain that like me, all Mel Comley's (and Lorne Warner's) fans will really enjoy 'Hostile Justice'. Once the first page is turned, you will simply not be able to stop reading all the rest.

Comley has done it again- this book had me hooked from the very first page. Starting out with some kids stumbling upon a gruesome murder, and then having Lorne rejoining the police force and falling headfirst into the investigation as DS with Katy as DI. The roles are reversed this time but nothing can hold Lorne back from hunting down lead after lead as they work with all our old favorites from the force to figure out the identity and murderer of this poor victim.

As the story unwinds, Lorne's daughter Charlie, now a young adult, stumbles across her own pot of trouble at a party that takes a deadly turn. And before too long, there is another family member who calls on Lorne for some police help too. Lorne and Katy have their plates full at work with all of these cases to investigate and suspects to interview. And as always with Comley's books, there are plenty of thrills, action and unexpected twists along the way.

I wasn't sure at first how much I would enjoy Lorne leaving behind her PI investigation and rejoining the force, but this was the perfect move for the series. Having her back in her old surroundings, with many of her old coworkers, was a great addition and I look forward to the next book in the series. And knowing Comley, we won't have to wait too long for the next book.

Lorne Simpkins Warner is bound to be a real person

Even though some of the British slang is difficult for me to get the gist of, the protagonist, Lorne, is so real you actually start to feel what she feels. Though I've not read all of her books, this author is not only very creative with the plots but has the ability to bring her characters to life.

Lorne is back with the team, Katy her friend, and now her boss. Leaving
the animal rescue to Tony and daughter Charlie. 4 young boys venture into an old warehouse, and finding a corpse. Interviewing at home, with an unemployed father, she gives name to Child Services. For seemed like more was going on. Knee deep into trying to find who was the victim. Was nice to have evening home with Tony. When getting a frantic call from Charlie.
She had gone to a girl’s 18 birthday party, and now at the hospital. The plot is thick with tension. The question are many, why an abandon warehouse. A party that was crashed by some guys.A mother that they couldn’t reach by phone. The impact once again is shown how the family handles this, by the author

Another good police procedural from this series. Lorne Simpkins Warner returns to the Metropolitan Police as a Detective Sergeant, working for her former DS. Together with the rest of the team (mostly new since she left), they pursue three separate cases. What I like about this series is fourfold: Lorne Warner is engaging and tough; the stories relatively short, so you’re not reading forever; as procedurals, the stories give a fair representation of the hurry up/wait aspects of police solving crimes; and finally, the story-telling style is very reminiscent of the Roger West and Gideon series’ by the late, great John Creasey. That is the highest complement, as I devoured all of Creasey’s books.

Demoted

Yet again Lorne rejoins the Met, this time more realistically at the rank of Sgt. rather than inspector. Surprised she never has to do any refresher courses, or retraining /requalification.
This time, her daughter Charlie goes to a party, where her hostess & best friend is made to drink vodka tainted with bleach & ethanol, resulting in her death.
Luigi, her brother in law is threatened by gangsters and Lorne dives in to help & both cases become linked at the end of the book.
Not as good as some of the others in this series.

Back in the saddle!

I.must admit that I enjoyed this book much better than the last two PI books. Something about them didn't sit right with me, and I decided not to review them as I felt it was a personal thing to me! I think it was the subject matter. But this one was back in the game, fast paced, good plot and subplot. The ending was a little abrupt but that is ok. Better than drug out to me. Hopefully Lorne stays in the MET , just my humble opinion!

Another great read in the Justice series. Looking forward to seeing how the new Superintendent Whites character pans out in future books. This has the usual heart racing and tense moments that I have come to love in this series. Looking forward to book 9! I recommend this series to anyone after a new read.

Here's the thing with the Justice Series. They follow the same characters throughout the series! I like the famarilty of a series!

Some may not, I also would consider these beach reads because you don't want to put down until the end, making these great reads for the beach!

Another greatly solved mystery

I have enjoyed reading this book. Not too much for Lorne to handle. Her daughter has been through a lot in her short life. Basic instincts are the best. I've been through that. Great book

Book 8 in the Justice series, Brings Lorne back to the police force.. She's defiantly at her best being a detective.
She leaves husband Tony and daughter Charlie in charge of the PI business and and the dogs home, and teams up again with partner Katy.
The rolls are reversed and Katy is now Lornes superior, although all the way through I got the impression that it was still Lorne in charge.
The story starts off with a headless woman's body being discovered by four young boys in an abandoned warehouse. It doesn't take them to long to discover who she is, and then it's just a matter of putting all the pieces together to work out what happened.. Simple of course. Only its not that simple, and as things start to happen, Lorne is hit with more problems. Her daughters best friends 18th party doesn't have a happy ending and Luigi her brother in law is being threatened.
Can Lorne and Katy work through everything that is happening and piece together the facts, to get to the bottom of it all.....
you will have to read the book to find out..
Personally I have loved the Justice series, and book 8 is just as good as the other 7. I would personally recommend you read them in order. And that way you get to enjoy the whole series.
I read this over a couple of days as I really wanted to get to the end, and see what was happening, yet with all good books as I got to the end I didnt want it to finish.
I really look forward to reading more of Lorne and Katie's police partnership, will be interesting to see how this friendship holds up...

Hostile Justice is the 8th in the Lorne Simpkins series and yet another great book.

Not needing much persuasion,Lorne decides to go back into the police force. Not only does she have a disturbing case to solve for the police she also ends up involved in case that's a bit to close to home for comfort through her teenage daughter Charlie and a party she attends.

As with all Mel's books, Hostile Justice grips your attention from beginning to end and is pretty fast paced. She manage's to deliver a brilliant story line in every book in this series and Hostile Justice is no different.

Even though I really enjoyed this book, due to Lorne being back in the police force I found that Hostile Justice felt different than the last couple of books in the series and it took me a bit longer to adjust to her change of career and her not being at home as much or involved with the kennels which I missed reading about. The crime and thrills are still a plenty though.

As always can't wait to read the next one.

Hostile Justice. Brilliant
M A Comley
Having read all the previous Justice books in this series I never thought for 1minute that they could get any better, how wrong was I this book is just brilliant. Follow Lorne as she is back in the force again, and already has a few murders to solve. Lorne, her husband Tony and daughter Charlie are evolving in to be must follow characters. If you have read the previous books in this series you are going to love this book, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

I read about half of this book--had some other things to do, and then got back to it. The setting is London, where Lorne Simpkins is persuaded to go back to work on the police force. It starts out with four boys finding the headless body of a dead (of course) woman. It gets into the smuggling of lethal alcohol, and her husband gets in on the action to stop this. His mates tell the story about how, after he had an artificial leg installed, some criminal shot him in the leg, with no problem for him.

Thank you, M.A Comley - I needed this book to get my reading mojo back, and I'm so pleased to be back on my #JusticeJourney.

Superbly written, of course, I really enjoyed Hostile Justice because Lorne rejoins the Met and is dives straight in with more than one case to solve! Brilliant.

I liked the addition of a new character in the form of Superintendent White. I'm looking forward to finding out how her relationship with Lorne develops.

I'm jumping straight into the next book because this series is fantastic and I can't recommend it enough.

Another chapter in Lorne’s life – back in the Met, but now working under Katy rather than above her. They seem to make it work well though. More tragedy hits Charlie, it is a wonder that girl is as stable as she is.

They tackle 3 cases, at first I thought the third was one too many, but Mel very cleverly weaved them all together.

I will now have to wait for Mel to finish writing the next in the Justice series to see what happens next in Lorne’s life.

Another Great Story

M A Comely has written another fantastic book! I love the Justice series and fall deep into the personal and professional life of Lorne Warner. Though I loved it very much, I felt something was missing. The intense climatic ending that has been a part of every book seemed to have vanished in this one. But that won't stop me from buying the next book in the series!

Lorne Warner returns to the Met in time to investigate the case of a body found with no head. At the same time she faces difficulties at home when Charlie attends a birthday party which results in a death due to doctored alcohol. Lorne and her team battle to solve both murders as quickly as they can.

Again this is another explosive fast paced story which races on filled with action. An excellent series but one to start at the beginning of.

Great but ending not up to rest

Hostile justice flowed well and keeps your interest high. The ending kind of drops you off a cliff. As the two cases Lorne was working were directly tied together a summary of how and why was in order
