Rorisang Thandekiso is one of South Africa’s most beloved media personalities. She has contributed to the arts industry in an authentic, memorable way. In Disciple Rorisang takes the reader deeper into her relationship with faith, describing her love for the Word of God and for Jesus. Disciple is an open-hearted, humorous, vulnerable look into the life of a young woman whose love for God spills over into the world.
This book is beautifully written and is a testament of Rorisang’s love of God. She brings us with in her life journey and ties all that she has been through and accomplished to God. She does not shy away from her strong beliefs and her commitment to her well with Jesus.
I recommend this book to anyone looking to strengthen their walk with God or anyone who might be looking to build a relationship with him. It’s very reflective and teaches a lot about being a disciple.
Here is my favourite takeaway from the book that I will be implementing in my life: You can be a disciple of God in other places outside of church. You don’t need to be in a church ministry to be a disciple of God.
“I've got permission to be myself in all ways because God has affirmed in me that I am enough.”
I enjoyed Rorisang’s story in her quest for discipleship and walking with God. This was an easy read that flows effortless so kudos to the author for doing a great job in conveying Rorisang’s testimony. This book was a breath of fresh air to remind us of the commandment that Jesus left us with to go out there and make disciples of all nations.👌
I love how she is convicted in her faith where she is not ashamed about the gospel and winning souls. In an era where people are frowned upon for boldly declaring their stance in Christ this was a reminder that we should carry on with fighting the good fight of faith and soldier on. The book also explored into her upbringing which was very relatable and clearly all Christian mothers are the same where they used to censor the content we used to consume as kids/teens. Also get to learn more about Rorisang as a person and what are her values and what shaped her. I truly enjoyed the collection of her life journey and even how she ended the book with this passage: “Above all things, may He truly be our personal Lord - meaning we yield and submit to Him - and Saviour, meaning we know that we fall short of His glory, yet we are called righteous because He is righteous.”🙏😍
It could have been a one-sitting read had I not have mothering things making demands on my time.
DISCIPLE, Walking with God by Rorisang Thandekiso. A believer's true-believer's story. Oh man, to believe so wholeheartedly, to hold on to the promises of one's God so steadfastedly...
"For more than a year Rorisang has been penning key moments from her life, and the lessons and challenges she faces in preparation for launching The Disciple in September.
The book is inspired by 1 Timothy 4:12 in the Bible.
“I'm giving everybody an inside world of why I do things the way I do them and how your faith, your work with God does not eliminate you from enjoying life,” she told TshisaLIVE.
“It's been very difficult because I didn't know I had to dig that deep. It is stuff I hadn't thought about in years that are coming out. Struggles, pains, traumas and great victories that we forget.”
Every venture and brand positioning has been intentional and authentic, Rorisang said." @timesliveza www.timeslife.co.za
"GO OUT BOLDLY WITH FAITH", pg 181❤️
Thank you @nbpublishers for this review copy. It was exactly what my heart needed right now.
A book about what it means to truly live a life for Christ. Rorisang goes into depth through reference of scripture what the five Christian pillars are that we should live by. 1 Timothy 4:12 the apostle Paul tells Timothy that in order to walk out this godly calling he should set an example of living a life that is: - pure - loving -faithful - true in conduct and in speech. These are the values that Rorisang emphasises through inviting the reader into some of her toughest moments yet. She shares these moments to encourage and force one to truly reflect on 1 Timothy 4:12. At the end of various chapters I reflected on these five pillars to evaluate where I stand. Who is Jesus to me? And why do I even believe in the first place? These critical questions are very important before living out the five pillars. Understanding what the foundation of my relationship with god is, to see where the cracks are if any, and how I can strengthen my faith. A beautiful memoir and would encourage any believer and those curious about pursuing a relationship with god to read it.
But it’s an important read for particular people. May they locate this book. May they grow from it. To them it will be a gift, that will both challenge and encourage them to live a life of abundance in Christ.
I cried, laughed, prayed, learned, grew and oh my word I was just in love throughout reading this book😍even though I made sure I drag the process of reading it, I am finally done.
This book is a quick read and definitely worth it, though I wish it had started with the same power, impact, and conviction that it ended with. Rorisang’s voice shines through more strongly in the latter pages, especially in the final chapter. In that section, she teaches and guides us on how we, too, can be disciples. She circles back to the scripture she began with, quoting 1 Timothy 4:12, which has evidently been a guiding light in her life:
“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”
I have been following Rorisang on Instagram for years, and she truly embodies this scripture. As a Christian, she exemplifies how we ought to live, and I approached this book, intrigued by its title and her "Jesus this, Jesus that" movement led me to expect to find practical tools we can draw from her Christian disciplines for leading such a life. I think I kinda expected a sermon locked in a book. More scripture, more questions that lead us to self reflect but I guess the lesson for me here is never to judge a book by its cover or title.
So I found myself wanting a bit more depth from the book. Nonetheless, it is an easy read that you could finish in a day or two. Rorisang discusses her family, faith, work, health issues, friendships, romantic relationships and the grief of losing a close friend. I felt her pain and vulnerability during that part of her story.
The last chapter resonated with me deeply. She references Romans 8:31-39, particularly the verse that states, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" I had never considered that scripture in the way she broke it down to us the readers before. She poses a thought-provoking question: "What part of your conduct counts against you living your best life for God?" Meaning, YOU can be against YOU. So check yourself!
After reading it, I closed the book feeling profoundly loved by God, realizing that nothing can separate me from His love.
Disciple walking with God- Is a heartfelt invitation into the life, faith journey and life's challenges of a young woman who loves God and does not shy from faith.
She shares key defining stories of her life some filled with dissapiontments, grief, health issues, testing of faith with the hope of reminding us of God's grace and His unconditional love for us.
There is a part in the book where she unpacks what it means to live out in faith by analysing as she says the Blueprint scripture found in 1Timothy 4:12, encouraging believers to be intentional in the following areas- speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.
I believe this book can resonate with each reader, you are bound to grasp something from this book. My biggest take from this book is the following. 1.Be authentic in your faith 2.Serve God wholeheartedly 3.Meditate on God's word 4.Boldly and confidently share the gospel 5.The goal is Jesus 7.Walk the talk, walk in faith and how you live should reflect your faith
What a beautiful book!! From start to end it made me reflect more on the choices I made, not even in a bad way, but just wanting to become a better version of myself in my Christian journey and also realizing how it is possible for other Christians to have and make their relationship with God work. You know sometimes we make excuses but man if she could do it, why not us? I loved every part of this book, every story that she stated just shows how everything always works out for your good. Another thing, quoting the Bible verses for me was just cream man. A job well done to Sisi Rorisang, beautiful work my sister. May God add upon what you already have and multiply all your efforts!!
Reading this book, I wanted to stall the ending. And now that I am done, I want to read it again. The memories/ stories laid in this book are truly motivational and urge the reader to work on their relationship with God, to let God be the center, in all seasons of their lives. This book is not to be read once and out away. It's a book one goes to for guidance and comfort and when they're feeling a little lost.
What a tale! What a life lived! What an encouragement! Rorisang came and stood on business with this one but with such an encouraging and heart warming tone. She was clear, relied on Scripture and told her story with a dash of humor and a squeeze of no-nonsense. Loved it!
While I personally found it a bit challenging to follow, I believe it holds value for those in its intended audience. I am hopeful that some readers will find encouragement and inspiration in its message.
Rorisang’s book is beautifully written & is a testament of her love for God. She brings us with in her life journey & ties all that she has been through & accomplished to God. I love that she didn’t shy away from her strong beliefs & her commitment to Jesus.♥️
I like how real she is in her faith walk, it draws you closer to her and makes you question your faith walk. It’s a good read , and stirs up your faith as a young Christian, would definitely recommend it to anyone.
What a wonderful and honest book. Even though it’s about her life and story, I love how the message is about being an individual who lives in their purpose and being a soldier for Christ.
Je voulais continuer à découvrir la spiritualité en Afrique du Sud au travers du rapport a Dieu d'une personnalité publique très connue. C'est chose faite, c'était intéressant.
My knowledge of Rorisang has mostly been through her online presence and her ministry, Jesus This, Jesus That. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about her and her journey through this book. Before reading it, I viewed her (and still do) as a wonderful example of being unapologetic about your faith and staying focused on the ultimate goal of life.
Disciple: Walking with God takes you deeper into her life while offering a heartfelt glimpse of her walk with God. It's a touching autobiography that not only shares her story but also invites you to reflect on your own faith. I love how unapologetic she is. It's consistent with how she comes across in interviews and on social media. She places a strong emphasis on walking in your purpose and not being diverted by others.
Rorisang explores topics like grief, faith, and purpose with honesty and grace. She challenges readers to evaluate their relationship with God and provides practical insight on how to be intentional in your walk; how to truly live as a disciple rather than falling into routine or habit.
She talks about ways she's put her faith in practice and how it plays in her work of media and speaking engagements, and her relationships. It's a quick read that can easily be finished in one sitting, yet it's deeply impactful. Rorisang beautifully weaves her testimony with reflections and prompts that challenge you to grow in your faith or even begin that journey. One thing that stood out to me was the blueprint scripture she used, 1 Timothy 4:12-15, which serves as a practical guide on what it truly means to become a disciple.
This book left me feeling encouraged and grounded. It's a reminder that living for God is not about perfection but about persistence, purpose, and presence.
Okay, this might be slightly biased because I reallyyyy like her – but this book is truly something special. It’s the kind of book you read once, and then again and again. Every time, it speaks to a different part of you.
This book has GOD written all over it. There isn’t a single chapter where Scripture or the presence of God isn’t felt. One line that really sets the tone is from page 11:
“In everything I do, I ask myself, ‘Where is God in this?’” And honestly? That question weaves through every page.
“That’s why I will always share that I put God first – I have set that boundary and demand that everyone in my life respects it.” - page 12
Hear me and hear me well – this book feels like the Bible sometimes. Not in content, of course, but in how timeless and layered it is. There are gems to carry with you no matter your age – 12, 22, 40. The wisdom? Deep.
On Marriage: As a single young woman, her take on marriage is refreshing. She still has faith for it, but her hope is anchored in God, not a timeline. She doesn’t idolise marriage, and yet she holds space for the desire – such a healthy balance.
“And they will all be at my wedding!” – page 16 This line got me. The faith in that sentence? Beautiful.
Later chapters delve into romantic relationships too. She doesn’t give a “10-step guide to Christian dating” – instead, she shares her honest experiences, always circling back to the Bible. It’s real and relatable.
Community plays a huge role – family, friendships, even strangers she meets on the street. Her story reminds you that walking with God isn’t just personal, it’s communal.
What struck me most was her honesty. She shares from the depths – from grief, illness, and heartbreak. She doesn’t pretend to have it all together, and that makes this book even more powerful.
One major takeaway? PURSUE JESUS. That’s the heart of it. Above everything – pursue Him.
It’s written beautifully, but if I’m honest – I wish Rorisang herself had penned the entire thing. Nkhenssni Manabe did an amazing job, but I longed for more of her – her thoughts in hard moments, her internal wrestles, the “why” behind certain stances.
Still – this is a book I’ll carry with me. And read again. And again.
I read this book from cover to cover, I have been so blessed and inspired by your faith journey and your testimonies. I love how you simplify the bible and break it down for people to personalise it and see themselves in what you saying. I will definitely go back to certain chapters and study them again. Thank you, this is God inspired !
