A little getaway takes a deadly turn for Morgan and Kyle Murphy in this spicy suspense thriller about a marriage filled with passion, secrets, and suspicions.
Morgan Murphy has always longed for a romance for the ages. And she’s found it with husband Kyle Murphy—until their spicy marriage suddenly starts to cool off.
Is Kyle preoccupied and distant because of a problem with his development project? Or is it something worse? Could Kyle Murphy be...cheating? He’s hiding something, that’s for sure. And Morgan’s determined to find out what it is.
With the help of gal pal Carla Flores, Morgan tracks her husband’s movements, and the signs increasingly point to infidelity, the ultimate sin in Morgan’s book. When Kyle increases their life insurance and surprises her with a weekend getaway to get their mojo back, she goes on the offensive and hatches a plan to make him come clean about what’s been going on.
But before she can pull it off, Morgan’s attacked and nearly kidnapped, and Kyle vanishes from the resort without a trace. With no clue as to who took Kyle or why, she’s not sure who is the biggest the shady investor he owes money to, the police, or the guys she hired to teach Kyle a lesson. With the clock ticking, she needs to find out soon.
Before they come for her, too.
For fans of Liv Constantine, Kimberly Belle, Jeneva Rose, Kaira Rouda, Freida McFadden, and Daniel Hurst.
"Edge of the seat suspense in this riveting thriller about a husband and wife hiding deadly secrets from each other that will keep you guessing all the way to the explosive ending. Another winner for Bonnie Traymore!" -- R.G. Belsky, author of the award-winning Clare Carlson series
This was a really good thriller. A wife suspects her husband of cheating, but then he also disappears. Was he really cheating or was something else going on? What happened to him? Is she in danger too?
This is very fast paced, which I loved. I have read so many books recently that are way too slow and this was the perfect pace. So much going on. So much mystery. It is told mainly from the wife’s point of view, but we also get the point of view of the reporter investigating what happened at times. I loved both of them.
I will say that when it got towards the end, it felt a little bit far fetched which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, I really enjoyed this and would def recommend it.
Thank you to netgalley for this free advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story starts with Kyle's disappearance during their weekend away, so the tension is immediately palpable. Then you jump into the past and go back a month. Here you can read that Kyle and Morgan's marriage is no longer so good, and Morgan even thinks that Kyle is cheating...
Ultimately you read chapters in the present again and Tara comes across Morgan's path. Tara is a journalist trying to find out what happened to Kyle. And can Morgan herself be trusted?
I thought this story started very well and I was very curious to know what had happened to Kyle. I also thought Morgan was an interesting character, partly because of her past.
You don't really know who to trust and this keeps the story interesting. I did think that the plot would be very different and I don't really know what I think about this yet. Not that it's bad, but I had different expectations.
'A little getaway' was certainly fun to read and I think I will look for more from this author!
This English-language book will be published on October 9. A big thank you to @netgalley for the review copy!

2.5-Star Review of A Little Getaway by Bonnie Traymore
The Little Getaway offers an intriguing premise with Morgan and Kyle Murphy's marriage at the center of a suspenseful story filled with secrets, suspicions, and betrayal. The plot promises spice, thrills, and twists as Morgan navigates her husband’s shady dealings and increasing distance, leading to a weekend getaway that takes a deadly turn. Unfortunately, while the story is fast-paced and has several twists that will keep readers turning the pages, it ultimately falls short of delivering on its potential.
One of the biggest drawbacks is Morgan herself. Her actions are erratic and often hard to justify, making it difficult to connect with her. While we’re given glimpses of her troubled past, they don’t feel genuine enough to flesh out her character. Morgan seems more focused on repeatedly reminding the reader of how clever and beautiful she is, only to make questionable decisions that make her character frustrating rather than sympathetic. It’s hard to root for her when there’s not much depth beyond the surface.
The story is marketed as a “Spicy Suspense Thriller,” but the spice is noticeably absent. The book talks about it, but it never quite delivers, and the plot feels more like a straightforward mystery than the suspense-filled ride I expected. While the first couple of chapters drew me in, as the story progressed, the plot began to feel unrealistic and a bit disjointed, with too many unbelievable situations.
That said, I enjoyed the perspective of Tara—it was fast-paced and focused more on the mystery, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to lift the book overall. The writing itself is another letdown, feeling rushed and poorly executed in places.
I was genuinely surprised that this book holds an average rating of 3.80 on Goodreads. The plot is mildly interesting, but the writing and character development drag it down. While A Little Getaway is a quick and easy read, it’s not one that will stick with you.
Thank you to Bonnie Traymore, Books Go Social, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this ARC.
Wow. This book started fast then got a little slow and then the last 30 percent really picked up again. I overall enjoyed this book. I like reading from Morgan’s perspective more than Tara’s though.
I wouldn’t call this spicy so don’t be thrown off by that part. If you want a quick thriller I would recommend this book. A good addition to your spooky season TBR
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick and fast paced read, though I didn’t think the story itself matched the synopsis. The story centers on Morgan, whose husband disappears- she has to figure out what is going on while also avoiding suspicion around her own involvement. You also get some chapters from the POV of Tara, a reporter who is trying to get a big scoop. There isn’t really much about a getaway other than the first few pages of the book, and there isn’t anything “spicy” at all.
The book is short and is a quick read, but it definitely bordered on unrealistic. While Morgan was quite a sleuth, her interactions with potential criminal masterminds, not to mention other characters, didn’t ring true. That being said, it was still kind of fun to read. I liked the Tara storyline, and I liked the way that it ended ;though again, had to suspend my disbelief).
Overall, I was a little confused as to what I read versus what I thought I would be reading, but thought it was a decent story as long as you don’t mind it being a little fantastical. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a well written thriller with a cast of strong characters centering on Morgan and Kyle. The author does a great job developing the story and brings it to life with her descriptive scenes. She takes you into their lives with chemistry as well as secrets and kept me turning the pages with suspense, intrigue and twists and turns. She moves the story fluidly and delivers a fantastic read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
Thank you Netgalley and booksgosocialgroup for the advanced copy of the book. It is available now!!!
This book is a suspenseful, intriguing and mind-blowing read that hooked me from the very first page. The intricate plot and twisted narrative kept me on the edge of my seat, making it impossible to put down until I figured out the mystery.
The pacing is spot-on, keeping the tension high while introducing unexpected twists and turns that are completely unpredictable.
Also, I love that Philippines was mentioned in the book 🇵🇭💗
Thank you Bonnie Traymore and NetGalley for an ARC of A Little Getaway. This was my first Traymore book and I was not disappointed! A possible cheating husband who vanishes during a weekend getaway with his wife? I’m in. I really enjoyed how the book ended. Although I usually like a good plot twist at the end of a thriller, I really admire how the ending of this book really ties the whole story together without leaving you asking unanswered questions. Bonnie did a great job at keeping you on the edge of your seat, wanting to solve the mystery of missing Kyle Murphy. Definitely will be reading more books from her in the future!
I have not read a thriller in a hot minute and it was good! Definitely a fast, easy read and quickly became a page turner for me.
I was anticipating more of a plot twist at the end and expected a more eerie vibe to it all but I’m honestly not mad. The epilogue was kind of sweet (lol), and it wasn’t the most unrealistic thriller I’ve ever read (super unrealistic is too cheesy for me).
With that being said, the “Spicy Suspense Thriller” marketing is maybe a little exaggerated. They talk about spice, but it doesn’t actually happen in the book, and it gave me just more of a simple mystery vibe, rather than a full on suspenseful thriller. (ya know?)
Regardless, I enjoyed overall and it’s getting me in the mood to read more thriller/mysteries for the season!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an arc of A Little Getaway by Bonnie Traymore, in exchange for my honest review!
The premise of this book is kind of like reverse ‘Gone Girl’ (with a different ending). Morgan Murphy has always been a fighter, standing up for herself and what she wants in life. Morgan believes she has the perfect spicy marriage with her husband Kyle until he starts acting strangely and becoming detached. Then, during a little getaway he had planned for them, he suddenly goes missing and she is attacked by someone but escapes. Now she must find out what her husband was hiding and figure out what happened to him and who could be after her, all while under the scrutiny of the media and the police who think she may have had something to do with his disappearance. I loved the premise and was surprised by many of the twists. It did feel a little disjointed at times and could have flowed better. The twist closer to the end felt more like a long-winded explanation of what happened behind the scenes rather than a major reveal… there were not a lot of breadcrumbs to lead the reader to that explanation so it felt like it came from out of nowhere. It was definitely a quick read with short chapters that kept me guessing and I did enjoy the strong and intelligent female characters fighting for their own happiness. This book was a decent 3 star read for me. Thank you to NetGalley, Bonnie Traymore, and Pathways Publishing for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was interested at first, but this book spiraled pretty quickly to the point I just lost interest and eventually DNFed.
I’ve read spicy books and I’ve read thrillers, and it felt like this one just straddled the line without achieving either. This is one persons opinion, and I’m new to the suspense/thriller world, so maybe it’s not for me, hence the 3 stars.
The book is suspenseful, intriguing, twisted and mind blowing. It hooked me from page one and I couldn’t keep it down until I figured out the mystery. It constantly kept me on the edge. The characters were kind of deceiving. This is a multilayered story with multifaceted characters. The author has shared so well the bond between a mother and daughter and husband and wife. Morgan had a painful past. The author has created such a powerful and poignant back stories. The book is filled with twists and turns. The pacing was good. In terms of spice, it has just a few scenes. The book shook me. Truth was twisted and secrets were twisty. And twists and turns were completely unpredictable.
I am so glad I read this book. Some people are so skilled at writing, they are born to be a writer and the author is one among them. Author has created such a clever and deceiving characters. If I could rate this book 10/5, I would do that. I would rate the spice 1/5. I finished this in one sitting, sign me up for all the authors upcoming books.
✔️A little gateway to rekindle marriage ✔️Monterey Bay Beach Setting ✔️A marriage filled with passion and secrets ✔️Unsettling Childhood ✔️Unthinkable happenings ✔️Twists and turns ✔️Twisty and mind-blowing Suspense Thriller
This is one of my new favorite authors!! Do yourself a favor and read all her stuff! This one is a great thriller that has Morgan who finds her fairy tale romance with her husband Kyle slowly falling apart, but then her husband surprises her with a romantic getaway but she’s suspicious.
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC. This was a fun read with two interesting females as the main protagonists. Fast moving, lots of action, not too violent, I enjoyed it a lot. Although I wasn't too fond of Kyle, not my choice as a husband! With a satisfactory ending, it's a light read that I read in one sitting and definitely recommend.
I had high hopes for “A Little Getaway”, but the book left me feeling underwhelmed. The story starts with an interesting premise—a weekend trip gone wrong—but the execution didn’t live up to its promise. The pacing was inconsistent, dragging in parts that should have been suspenseful and rushing through moments that needed more development.
The characters lacked complexity, making it difficult to connect with them or care about their motivations. The protagonist’s decision-making often felt irrational, and her reactions to key events didn’t feel believable, which detracted from the tension.
The plot twists, while present, were predictable and sometimes felt forced rather than organically woven into the narrative. There were opportunities for deeper exploration of the themes and relationships, but they were never fully realized. The writing itself was serviceable but didn’t stand out—dialogue was often stilted, and the descriptions didn’t do much to evoke a sense of place or atmosphere.
On the positive side, there were brief moments of suspense that showed potential, and the book’s length makes it a quick read. However, these glimpses of intrigue weren’t enough to overcome the book’s overall shortcomings. If you’re looking for a light, surface-level mystery, A Little Getaway might work, but if you’re after a truly gripping thriller, this one misses the mark.
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this eARC 🖤
Imagine thinking that you have the perfect marriage, only to begin to suspect that your husband is cheating. Before you have an opportunity to confront him or do anything about it he disappears without a trace, and you fear you may be next.
This story was definitely fast paced and full of twists, turns, and secrets. However, I would not label this book as spicy nor a thriller. Mystery? Suspenseful? Yes and yes. But spicy thriller is a stretch. It failed to keep me engaged and wanting to keep reading. I didn't really feel a connection with any of the characters, nor was the ending satisfying to me. It did, however, keep me entertained. For that I'll give this book 3 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! #ALittleGetawayASpicySuspenseThriller #NetGalley
A huge thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial publishing for an Arc of this book for an honest review. This book was full of lies and deception and for a while I wasn’t sure whose story to believe. I will say this book was marketed as a spicy suspense thriller and I didn’t read any spicy parts in this book. Overall this was a 3 stars it was entertaining but also predictable.
My first Bonnie Traymore book, I liked the synopsis so requested this. I couldn't work out where this was going to go, it kept me thinking! Who was guilty, who could be trusted??!! I devoured this in 24hrs 4🌟
I recommend reading this if you want to get out of your head for a while.
I felt really identified with Morgan as she always dreamed of something romantic and I consider this is something we probably have all dreamed of. But like in real life in this story, there is more to a story like this and I loved how somehow realistic this part is because nothing is red roses and butterflies. I loved the plot twist because it is so unexpected. Suddenly, this book turns into a mystery and you really don’t know what is happening anymore. So, it’s definitely something I did not expect when I started reading this book and I love being surprised by books in a positive way of course. I recommend reading this if you want to get out of your head for a while.
Bonnie Traymore is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across this author’s books before. Thus may ga e been my first listen but it won’t be my last.
When Morgan and Kyle go on a getaway, Kyle disappears and Morgan is attacked. Why have they been targeted?
Morgan is determined to investigate and along with her friend Carla they go looking for answers.
What follows is an entertaining, fast paced suspense story that kept me invested. There were a number of twist and turns that kept me guessing.
The narration by Meghan Kelly was spot on in my opinion. You could feel the angst, fear, emotion and intense drama in her performance. . She was easy to listen to and brought the story and characters to life.
This is a triller mystery story that will grab you from the first world . Morgan Murphy, the heroine is wondering what is going on with her husband. She knows he’s hiding something . things change when her husband suddenly disappears, lMorgan is in search for answers that you could never anticipate.
You should for sure get this audio story Meghan Keely did a fantastic work telling the story

Traymore’s writing is engaging and lively, bringing the setting and characters to life with warmth and charm. With its mix of humor and emotional depth, this novel offers a refreshing escape that’s perfect for fans of lighthearted romance.
Thank you, Bonnie Traymore and NetGalley for the opportunity to read A Little Getaway: A Spicy Suspense Thriller and provide my honest feedback!
A Little Getaway is a fast paced thriller that had me hooked from the start. Morgan and Kyle Murphy have a loving passionate marriage, or so we think. One day things start to cool down and Morgan begins to suspect something is off. Kyle plans a romantic getaway to spice up their marriage and everything comes crashing down when Morgan is attacked and Kyle disappears. I didn’t anticipate the twists and turns that this story took!
Damn that Morgan Murphy! I struggled to get into this book, but after a few chapters, I couldn't put it down. I needed to know what happened to Kyle. Twisty-page turner with a little spice. I do think that the description of spicy suspense thriller was a little deceiving. Needed more spice! This was my first book by Bonnie Traymore. I'll definitely be adding more of her books to my TBR. The ending of the book was magical. I'm still smiling.
