Interesting at the start, went down hill quick after that. The book seems to be written by a 13 year old for 13 year olds. It tries very hard to be cool and for the main character to be a badass, but instead it ends up being cringeworthy. Cringed through the whole book and got second hand embarrassment.

description

A new fave mafia romance about a beyond kickass heroine who is a true Mafia Boss Queen that can hold her own and then some. If you like action-packed mafias, this is one for the books.

Mackenna and Dante were arranged to be married as a way to bring peace between the Irish and the Italians…until their wedding days ends in blood with the Bratva coming in to slaughter them both.

I honestly do not want to give anything away because Mackenna has SO many secrets and each one is cooler than the last. She is easily one of my fave mafia heroines and i would NOT want to be on her bad side. Kenna is a formidable heroine: she commands respect, is smart as a whip, sexy as hell, and can take any man in the boxing ring. Being part of Kenna’s inner circle is a true privilege and her relationship with her best friend had my heart.

Dante annoyed me a littleeee at the start due to his typical mafia man ways, but he quickly came to realise that Kenna was his equal and not a meek mafia wife. I loved how he diverted to her and was turned on by her bloodlust and badassery.

A great start to a series that i cannot wait to binge through. (I’m pumped for Romero and Holly!)

WOW......really enjoyed this book, didn't expect the direction it went in but glad it did.
Heroine is a BADASS!!! Loved Hero but felt he lost his alpha status after a while....shame.

Could of been slightly longer and had the added extra details added in as sometimes it seemed a little rushed but still throughly enjoyed reading this book.

OKAY, first I’d like to apologize for the lack of words I’m about to give you because the story has just begun and I’m telling you nothing, except, HOLY BANANAS kids, that was something else! IN AN OUTSTANDING WAY!

Here are some things that I MUST tell you:
✔Alpha female
✔Alpha male
✔Ridiculous chemistry
✔The twists have twist so pay attention!
✔There are landmines everywhere so watch your step (if you feel me lol)
✔The entire book is one jaw dropping bombshell! FOR.REAL!

I cannot believe I have to wait till March for more!

I said this when I read the Kingpin series by Brooke Summers and it deserves to be said once again … It was an exhilarating ride of epic proportions and the level of intensity was pretty much a ten throughout the entire book! She delivered it then and she’s delivering it now! If you’re a fan of mafia stories/sagas, this is an author you should be one-clicking!

This started off so well and then quickly descended into something very different. it’s an arranged marriage mafia romance where Dante (Italian) is contracted to Makenna (Irish) to solidify the two family’s Bonds. I’m actually partial to this particular genre usually but this one just didn’t work for me at all.

I do so love a strong heroine that is empowered but Makenna was just way too much. she’s only nineteen but the way she’s portrayed here you’d think she was much older in her thirties at least and the girl seemed to be good at absolutely everything. There was literally nothing she wasn’t skilled in. She was talked up that much that her new husband Dante was left totally in the shade he and his brothers instead of being portrayed as lethal made men just seemed weak yes men in comparison. It just wasn’t in any way believable that at her young age and female to boot she would have this much power even with her unbelievable skillset.

Also, this had a lot of information and too many side characters so many so that it was easy to get confused from all the names. This focused mostly on the internal day to day workings and had such long explanations and massive information dumps meaning the romance itself seemed to take a back seat to everything else.

I also didn’t think the chemistry worked I felt no heat or passion between these two and it was also very instalove and lust which isn’t always an issue for me but here with the lack of any build-up to their bond it just felt forced and lacklustre. The characters didn’t seem that fleshed out either it’s like it all was so focused on Makenna everything else fell by the wayside. It also felt very rushed and the events that occurred were super convenient in a nutshell this felt like the Makenna show. Unfortunately, I don’t really enjoy this and couldn’t connect so won’t be reading any more of this series.

Bloody Union follows the love story of Makenna and Dante. This is a dark mafia arranged marriage romance. Makenna is the daughter of the NY Irish mafia boss and Dante is the eldest son of the NY Italian mafia boss. As with most mafia books, their marriage is meant to bring peace for the two families. Only Makenna is a lot more than Dante barganed for. I liked Makenna as a character. She is strong and dangerous and not at all the classic sumissive mafia wife.
However, the characters were not fleshed out enough and the plot seemed rushed. The book has a good premise but the execution was underwhelming.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ohh man. It has been a while since I dove into a mafia book and I was very excited to get Bloody Union. In it, you will meet Makenna and Dante. She is Irish and he is Italian. So basically we are family already because I'm both. Other than that, they are both in the mafia and haven't been on the best of terms. Well, things will hopefully be better once they get married.. maybe.

Not going to lie, this book had betrayal in it and I ate it all up. Each page and chapter was beyond addicting and I couldn't help but root for these badasses. Makenna has been underestimated her entire life. So when some secrets come out in the air.. it wasn't surprising that people didn't take a liking to her. So she did what any normal person does in the mafia.. she kills them.

Then there's Dante, and he would honestly do anything for her. There was just something about these two that they just ignited. They protected one another and watched them grow as well. Heck, they were two people you don't want to fuck with. Heck, the entire family seems dangerous.

In the end, I'm excited for the next book because I am super worried about Melissa and her family dynamic. Why do the women always be treated beneath these men? Just like Makenna said.. they are more dangerous and no one fucks with the boss.

It's rare where I give a book a 1 star. But we have to be rational...

Pretentious. Is the main feel.

The author's ambition to make Makenna THE character made the story a hard pill to swallow. EVERYTHING revolved around her.

Kenna was self centred. A so called self made killer at 19.
Dante's POV was only :my bride this, Makenna that... my c*ck stirred at this and that.. *excessive eye roll*

But what's worse is the way story telling was written . its was like a wayward lost fanfic in the Internet written by a highly emotional teenager that loves to write weird dialogue and unwarranted violence scenes just to make the story "cool"

And don't get me on the filler side character. They exist to make Makenna have personality which ironically she barely had.

Anyways I do not recommend this.

Arranged Marriage Can Be Fun

I’d probably give this book 3.5 ⭐️ if I could.

The heads of the Irish and Italian Mafia in New York decide to end their war by marrying off the Irish Head’s daughter and the eldest son of the Italian Head. The daughter, Makenna, is 14 when the arrangement is made and the wedding is held when she is 19. It’s five years since Dante has seen his fiancée and when he last saw her she was a quiet and obedient girl. Now she’s a woman, strong and beautiful and he hasn’t a clue who she really is.

When their wedding turns into a blood bath, it’s Makenna who protects and saves his brother, taking charge without blinking. Stunned by the woman he’s married to, Dante is determined to find out who she really is.

There’s a reason I don’t normally read mafia books. It’s because women are usually treated like objects, and this starts out exactly the same way. The reason I wanted to actually read this one is the blurb implied that Makenna was a different kind of mafia princess, and she is definitely that. The other reason I don’t normally like this kind of book is that the mob persona doesn’t really do it for me, it’s the same reason I don’t like some of the 1%er MC books. I prefer my characters to put their loved ones first, not profit at all costs, those costs being outsiders and their lives. So whilst this book has Makenna being treated differently from most women, the whole thing about outsiders being disregarded is definitely there.

I had a couple of problems with this book, the first being Makenna’s age. She acts like and is treated like she’s 10 years older than she actually is. Even if she was male she wouldn’t have been given the responsibilities she was at that age.

The second thing I have an issue with is the whole insta-lust/love thing that happened as soon as they laid eyes on each other as adults. That whole WHAM “wow she is my soul mate I am transformed into the perfect man for this goddess I’ve been waiting all my life for” thing drives me nuts.

If you can disregard these two items it’s not a bad book. It’s entertaining and the characters are interesting. It’s pretty violent, but in a casual way that doesn’t come across as particularly dark because it’s not dwelled upon.

Despite myself, I sort of liked this book, but probably not enough to read the next in the series. I just can’t seem to get over that mafia hurdle.

This book was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I’ll admit the blurb had me more than intrigued. I’m not normally a mafia reader because as we all know it’s a mans world. However I’ve been on a strong badass heroine kick lately and the character of Mackenna sounded right up my alley. Holy shit was I spot on, this is a woman who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty that’s for sure. Mackenna is a whirlwind and an amazing character. I loved everything about her. Not only has she learned to grow in a predominantly male run ‘business’ she revels in it and rules all on her own. Hell she even gets in the ring with men the size of bears without batting an eye. I don’t think either MCs knew what to expect with their arranged marriage but they were a match made in heaven and sparks fly immediately. It didn’t even take Dante long to accept and believe in her, in fact he ate up everything she dished out. There is no question these two were meant to be and I loved how well they communicated. Even when Mackenna had secrets she knew when to fill Dante in so there wasn’t this long drawn out distance between them. In fact if they didn’t have so many responsibilities I imagine it’d be hard to pry these two off one another. The book was very fast paced and jam packed with action. I was sucked right in and am already looking forward to the next one featuring one of Mackennas nephews.

It was bad. I love mafia romance but this book seems like it was written by child. I felt like author thinks that we are stupid and needs to tell us everything. Like you don’t need to tell me he won’t hit her just show me. Show don’t tell that is the rule of writing. The relationship is rushed, its okay to have an attraction but here it seamed like they are heads over heels for each other immediately.
And i hate that nobody has respect for elders. In mafia communities everything is about respect. And here we have her who calls Capo by his first name. Like even in real world you mist have respect for ppl you see for the first time and elders.
Im sorry i tried but i really couldn’t finish it.

Thank you netgalley and Victory Editing for this arc

This is my first read by this author and wow I absolutely loved this. I'm usually not into insta with mafia books but this story worked so well. Both the heroine and hero are bada$$ and fierce with loyalty and family. This story had twist and turns that I loved. The secondary characters are awesome and I can't wait to read the next book. Great job !!

I know this book was supposed to be dark but for some reason it sounded like a crazy type of rom-com. What I did not like was the amount of times they talked about their amazing sex but we were not shown. I needed smut here. It is what I expect from Mafia romances, scorching hot sex scenes.
My advice is that you read this book in one go. Don't put it down or you will start questioning the nonsense plot of the book.

I liked this book but not as much as I wanted. This was so insta love, and I just can't with that. The plot was very good and the characters both principal and secondary were fenomenal. All the secrets were revealed and they were something else. Makenna being the Boss was awesome, women are never important in the mafia but seeing one being the Boss was just amazing. I loved how Dante supported her in everything, that's what you do when you love someone. They were both obssessed with each other and would anyone that dared hurt the other, love it

Nope. Another book recommended by moretomary that just didn't work.

The story is about 14 year old Makenna, who's the grand daughter of the Irish Mafia Capo. She's arranged to marry Dante, the son of the Italian Mafia Capo and fast forward to 4 years later, their marriage ends up being a bloody union with the Russian Mafia storming in. Soon after we find that Makenna isn't just a typical mafia woman, but she's highly trained by her uncle who's part of the Irish Republic Army. Also, majority of the Irish Mafia is controlled by Makenna. However, her hatred for Dante's father and her contempt for her mother opens up secrets as to what exactly happened to her before she fell down the Mafia rabbit hole.

This is disappointing. I had really high hopes for this book because I love reading books with badass female leads. Sure, Kenna is pretty badass. She's the head of the Irish Mafia which is so absurd if you've read a lot of Mafia books because women are always seen as child bearers and play things to torture and control by Made Men. So, reading about Kenna being the complete opposite of a docile mafia girl, was actually pretty cool.

But, this book fell way too flat. It's like the author was so determined to show off how cool Kenna is that she made her character feel so weird and in your face. It almost felt like the author was a kid showing off her new toy aka badass Kenna and telling the readers, "Look at this, Look how cool it is, Look what it does, I bet you don't have one of this..". Like okay, I get it. Kenna is cool but can you talk about something else too? Like let's not make Dante look like a piece of background furniture! The entire book is spent with him marvelling about how cool, strong and powerful Kenna is, which I appreciated the first few times, but when it got repeated, it just got old.

The story also felt very abrupt. There was no build up of scenes and no natural progression of storylines. It felt very amateurish..almost like the book was written by someone who was determined to write a book showing how amazing strong Mafia women can be but that's the only plot they had in the first place. If there was more of a plot, better execution and better sequencing, the story would have been amazing. I honestly felt frustrated not being able to read about the description of unimportant background settings, the formation of a strong and organic relationship and the slow and quick storm of heightened emotions and tension! These are the things that make a book work!!!

Unfortunately, this book was just not IT.

After all the books I've read, the disappointment was bound to come. Too bad because the title was beautiful, the plot attracted so much, the cover did its part .... but the story itself gave me nothing.
Being a short book I didn't expect much, but the events happen one after the other, without giving the reader time to recover, everything happens at a speed comparable to that of light, but above all, in the prologue the protagonist Makenna has many secrets that he swears never to reveal ... and in chapter 5 we already know half of it, three chapters later we discover the great secret (let's face it, it was intuitable without her revealing it). Finally a protagonist with ba**s, who is at the head of a faction of the Irish mafia, but who unfortunately left me nothing.

Let's not talk about the romantic part, first of all here we are dealing with an arranged marriage, you know most of the mafia romance has this trope and the couple at first hates each other to death. Here, however, all happy to get married, after a while we are already at the part of "I love you". The romantic scenes between Makenna and Dante, I think are the most detached and aseptic I have ever read. I give 3 ⭐ only for the original plot, which unfortunately the author, in my humble opinion, has not managed to develop well and therefore unable to keep me glued to reading (I struggled to finish this book).
I also didn't like the ending that introduces the next couple so I don't think I will continue the series.

Welcome to a new exiting mafia romance series!

I absolutely loved Bloody Union. Brooke Summers gives us a well though story, full of mysteries and action and a couple with a chemistry that will leave you breathless.

What I like most about these stories are made men because they are possessive and stop at nothing to protect their woman. And of course Dante is no exception to this.
I also enjoy the sweet submissive woman (I’m not going to lie). But you won’t find that in Makenna. She is perfect, determined and strong. And this is refreshing in a man’s world.

And together they are explosive. Their connection is so strong from the first page that I couldn’t put this book down.

You can’t miss this addictive romance with a different take on the typical mafia world.

I can’t wait to read book 2 in the Made Series!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.

It has pure Ruthless People Melody ( boss lady ) written all over it..which is why I picked this because after Ruthless people I wanted to pick a mafia romance with badass boss as heroine which apparently is difficult to find in this trope..

But Bloody Union by Brooke Summers did it and she does it well , I love this book so much , the chemistry between Dante ( aha..that name 👄) and Makenna was off-the-charts and the twists and turns were what kept me going

The reason I'm not giving this 5 stars but 4 is because I myself found this , a little bit fast paced , like I thought everything was happening fast and there was like insta-love kind of thing happened which I found disturbing and everything was happening so quick that just when I think something is going to happen , the other shoe will drop as barrier in this insta-trust-relationship but what happened was just that they confess their undying love to each other..

In short, this one was alright.

I liked the relationship between the brothers as well as Kenna's with her family, and it was nice to have an arranged marriage where the woman isn't just a nice quiet virgin but actually one with a backbone and a good backstory to back up the badassery;)

Things that let it down for me were Dante and the way he rolled over immediately for Kenna (honestly this made him lose alot of his big bad mafia underboss points for me) and the fact that it was Kenna storming through calling all the shots while everyone just nodded along with little to no questioning or resistance. It just didn't sit right with me or feel true to anything I know about the mafia world.

This is also one of those books where they fall in love by day 2 and although it kind of worked for this story, I do still find it super unbelievable and struggle to just get on board with it.

So like I said, this one was alright. I didn't love it but it wasn't bad.

Who doesn't love an arranged marriage story line. I was really intrigued with this one in the beginning. McKenna a daughter of an Irish mob family, Dante a son of an Italian mob family the perfect combination. Thier story started out so strong. Great connection between the two. A strong female, and a sexy ass Italian. However, that's where it ended for me. There are far too many characters in this book. I completely gave up caring about any of the, even the best friend. I'm sure all the characters will lead to more books, unfortunately I won't carry on if there is. I find it strange when a book starts out strong then at 35% it just goes a stray. I would however, like to give a shout out for this cover, I love it. Simply beautiful. This was my first book by this author and I would try another, just not if it's another mafia book.

Bloody Union is about an arranged marriage between two rival gangs,The Italians and the Irish, as an attempt for peace. But Makenna and Dante’s relationship is anything BUT peaceful.
This book was so spicy I read it in 2 days. I had trouble putting it down quite honestly. The dynamics between Dante and Makenna are off the charts and their mutual bloodthirst only fans the flames of their relationship.
I found this book to be very fast paced but absolutely loved everything about it!

DNF at 60%

I just couldn’t force myself to finish this.
Everything felt very rushed, there was no chemistry between Dante and Makenna.
Also, no character was actually likeable in my opinion.

I know that Makenna was meant to be this boss bitch… but pls be for real 🙄 (i was really excited because i usually love a powerful heroine) but the author made Makenna too cringey :(

and Dante was just boring.

If I could give this more than 5* I would!! This book is everything I’ve been looking for in a mafia romance. It’s a mafia world where women are able to hold as much power as the men. Reader’s of mafia romances will become enthralled by the violence and brutality while falling into a mind game that will keep you on your toes.

“You’re supposed to be the docile woman who knows her place.”
I scoff, “whoever gave you that impression needs to be shot.”

I highly suggest going in blind with little to no spoilers. This story has a HEA, no cheating, no OW/OM drama, and no cliffhanger. If you enjoyed AJ Wolf’s Bloody Business series and ST Abby’s Mindf*ck series you will love this book.
.
.
.
So for those that want to know a little more here’s my thoughts:
Kenna isn’t a normal mafia princess. She survived a horrific event at the young age of twelve. Subsequently her father sent her away to “protect her.” Her uncle, and new guardian, had other ideas and trained her to ensure nothing like that would ever happen again. And honestly, when you hear all the details of what happened to her you’ll be grateful her father and uncle took those actions.

Fast forward five years and it’s the day of Kenna and Dante Wedding. This is an arranged marriage between the daughter of the NY Irish mafia’s boss and the son of NY’s Italian Mafia Capo. The two have an instant attraction with sexual chemistry so thick it's damn near palpable and melting off the pages. And as you can guess from the cover and blurb, the wedding is a bloody affair that leaves a trail of carnage in its wake. When the proverbial sh!t hits the fan, to Dante’s surprise, his new wife is composed, in charge, and a brutal killer.

Unraveling Kenna’s past and meeting her family will take you on an adventure. You will meet a host of people that all play pivotal roles throughout the story. And if you’re anything like me and have a tendency to forget people, names, or connections you may want to keep a family tree or notes. It will probably come in hand as the series expands and grows.

Made Series book #1

This is an arranged marriage between the son and heir of an N.Y. Italian mafia Capo (grandson of the Capo di Capi) and the daughter of the head of the N.Y Irish mafia (granddaughter of the Irish version of Capo Di Capi in Ireland and the U.S. East coast.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. There were some parts I really enjoyed, and the intricacies of the plot were intriguing, or could have been. But there were parts of this story related to the mafia activities/events (particularly the Irish family as the story centers more around the Irish h) that were too simplified or just didn't make sense and, therefore, did not seem plausible. And yet, in spite of all this and even the "secrets" we later discover, this story is pretty predictable.

I didn't dislike the characters, but there seemed to be a disconnect for me. I just wasn't feeling them. Additionally, I didn't find them very believable, particularly the h. I do like strong female leads, and this h is a bada$$. But I found it hard to believe the fact that her father and brothers had no clue who and what she was for 3+ yrs. Additionally, I prefer male leads who are alpha and in control with a soft spot for the female lead. While the later is certainly demonstrated, the story line doesn't allow the H to exhibit much of the first. In fact, he plays second fiddle to the h through most of the story so we really don't have an opportunity to get to know him very well.

In spite of all this, it held my interest enough to keep reading till the end. No, I didn't love it, but I didn't dislike it either. 3.5 stars.
