Sutton Acker has had a terrible year. After her fiancé cheats on her and her grandmother passes away, she can’t stop thinking about a love story her grandmother used to share about a Jewish woman living in Europe during World War II who unexpectedly fell in love with an American solider only to lose him just as suddenly. It’s a story Sutton knows well, having seen her grandmother grieve this man for most of her life.
Despite being a high-powered, divorce attorney in New York City with little hope of finding true love, Sutton has always clung to her grandmother’s story as proof that love does exist. But as the reality of finding true love feels more and more unlikely, Sutton decides to look up the soldier her grandmother spoke about. When she surprisingly finds out that he’s alive and living in Boston, she arranges to work remotely for several weeks to go in search of proof that the love her grandmother told her about was real.
Adrian Harrison is still dealing with the fallout of his recent divorce from a woman he never should have married. Despite his sister’s occasional meddling in his love life—or lack thereof—and his ex-wife’s recent scheme, he’s moved on and has a thriving business. His troublesome ex becomes the least of his problems when Sutton walks into his bar making demands and sending his heart racing with irritation.
Sutton isn’t leaving Boston—or apparently, his bar—until she gets the proof she came to find. But maybe she’ll find what she’s looking for in the most unexpected of places.
Dani is an author of spicy romance novels with heart and emotionally intelligent characters. She aims to write characters who understand themselves, apologize when they do something wrong, generally navigate life's challenges without having unnecessary emotional drama, and have great sex.
Inspired by a true story, a love torn apart by World War II brings two people together decades later.
"Come on. Shut me up, Adrian. Or are you worried you can’t do it?" (p.227)
First, I would like to thank the author and Grey's Promotions for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In the wake of a broken engagement and the death of her grandmother, Sutton arrives in Boston determined to learn more about the man her grandmother had loved and lost so many years ago. Sutton and Adrian, the owner of a sports bar, clash immediately. Adrian has no patience for Sutton’s attitude. Unfortunately for him, his grandfather is the man Sutton came from New York City to meet.
Dani Grimes wrote Unexpected Proof based on a family story of love lost during World War II. In this touching reimagining of how her great uncle’s story could have been written, Dani Grimes has created the emotional foundation for Sutton and Adrian’s love story. My own grandmother had Alzheimer’s dementia, and the way in which Ray’s character is portrayed is raw, delicate, and realistic.
The banter between Sutton and Adrian evolves from genuine, irritated frustration to sexual frustration to something more. Their slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, cautious journey to love is so fun and their sexual chemistry is exquisite.
Unexpected Proof is a brilliant opener to the Boston series, and I am really looking forward to reading Unexpected Offer, which releases in just 2 weeks!
Oh emm geee! I did not expect half of what happened in the story. I saw some of it coming like Adrian and Sutton falling in love and the friendship between Sutton, Sloane and Lavi. But what I did not see coming was Rebecca! The way Sutton handled her was EPIC! The love story about Greta and Ray brought Adrian and Sutton together made me both laugh and cry. The ending had me crying. I had to walk away from the book to get my bearings… that was during the last chapter. Dani Grimes did an amazing job telling the love story of Greta and Ray. She also did amazing on bringing Sutton and Adrian together after what they went through in their past romantic relationships.
New to me author and I can’t wait to read more! Firstly the grandparents story!! *insert ugly cry* I couldn’t imagine living through war times, no cell phones, no video chats, just waiting, hoping, praying you see your loved one again. Just the idea of it is heart breaking!
I looooove the way Adrian and Sutton are lowkey the continuation of that love story though! The parallels, living your own love story while hearing the story of generations before you, how that passed down story fused you together.. it was so beautiful and really sucked me in.
I actually really enjoyed the bar as a backdrop, the friendship that developed with Sloane and Lavi. Sutton going lawyer Barbie on Rebecca was chefs kiss. This was a really beautiful love story!
This was so different and a fantastic read. I've not read Dan's books before. To know the grandparents true and tragic love story was real, it pulled at my heart. Of the love so great and the loss. Sutton wasn't likable at first. Trust me and keep reading, you will fall in love with her. She came a cross a bit of a snob and the spoiled rich Upper East Side princess. But really she cares for those in need, she is funny and strong. She was having a bad day or shall I say bad 6 months. Adrian was funny, hot, dominate, caring and supportive. He has bad experience with his ex wife that is still making his life a misery. He wasn't expecting to be knocked over by Sutton until he saw her attitude and thought she was just like his ex. He does eventually finds that's her defence mechanism.. Sutton has come to Boston to find answers if her Grandmothers true love was real. She is in hope to find it for herself. She needed to see that soldier her grandma fell for. Only problem his grandson has to give permission and he is no other that Adrian the man she wasn't very friendly with. His sister and her wife were a great addition to the story with banter, friendship and love. I loved the visita with Adrains's grandad. Please be aware he has dementia and it is emotional subject. Through their grandparents love story these two somehow find that true love. Unfortunately she is going to be made partner in her law firm and he is doing well on his first love, his pub. Read this wonderful, emotional love story filled with nostalgia, humour, banter, friendship and the spice between these two was very hot.
I absolutely loved this book! Sutton initially comes off as a high maintenance snob or worse, but that’s not the real Sutton. She’s had a horrible day of travel that culminates in some bad behavior when she meets Adrian. Their first meeting definitely ignited some sparks and plenty of attitude!
The sexy banter and sass between Sutton and Adrian is a lot of fun and definitely kept me engaged in the story. I loved his relationship with his sister, Sloane and her wife, Lavi. Sutton bonds with these two amazing characters which let readers initially see she was more than the uptight attorney Adrian met.
Adrian is a little over reactive to some of Sutton’s comments because of his recent past experience with his ex-wife. He gradually discovers he was very wrong in his opinions about Sutton and it’s fun to see him fall for her.
The Greta and Ray plot line is beautiful and so emotional. It adds so much to the development of Sutton and Adrian’s romance. The ending is as happy as we could hope for.
I received a free ARC from the author and Grey’s PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Adrian and Sutton! My loves! These two are absolutely phenomenal. This story made me ugly cry and giggle so much! I went on a complete journey with these characters and the unbreakable bond of love 🥹❤️
Sutton Acker ❤️ brave, intelligent, feisty, beautiful, daring, a lawyer, a heart of gold, helpful, fiercely protective, and possessive. She comes to Boston from New York, to find out more about the man her grandmother loved with all her soul and stumbles upon Adrian Harrison, who happens to be his grandson. The banter between these two 😂🥹❤️ You can instantly see the chemistry between these two.
Adrian Harrison 🥵😏🩷 My man! This man owns my absolute heart and soul. I couldn't help falling crazily in love with him the second I met him. Tall, caring, intelligent, successful, blonde 😏, owner of a bar, full of banter, heart of gold, fiercely protective, possessive and secretly a Dom 🥵 This man has been through a tumultuous life before meeting Sutton and was afraid she would turn out the same. But after spending the time that he did with her, he fell hopelessly and irrevocably in love.
The bonus point of this Unexpected Proof was the secondary lovestory which was heartbreaking and full of pain. 😭😭😭 Greta and Ray, my heart really broke for these two. They were a tragic lovestory but I'm so glad I got to read about them. I love how their story was brought Adrian and Sutton closure that true love does exist.
Thank you so much Dani for the ARC Opportunity, I appreciate it so much! ❤️
Sutton and Adrian have a horrible meet-cute at his bar thanks to bad weather, broken heels and prejudice. Fortunately, fate gives them another chance to get to know each other better.
Sutton is looking for her grandma Greta’s love of her life, Raymond, whom got away during the World War II. Raymond happens to be Adrian’s grandfather! While both of them start off on a rough path with many misunderstandings and wrong assumptions, they soon become “friends” who can converse at ease and with honesty.
Sutton and Adrian end up spending lots of time together despite the initial animosity and their chemistry builds up via arguments just like my favourite quote says: “Arguing with you is my favourite hobby.” 🤣
I enjoyed the side plot of Raymond and Greta’s story and it highlights the many lives that were destroyed and impacted through war. May we never go through such a period again!
Overall, this was a spicy and fun read while I get to know Boston better.
What I Loved: 🦋 He took care of her when she was sick 🏙️ The grandparents backstory 🦋 Hot Viking-esque MMC 🏙️ Sloane and Lavi 🥰
This book took a while for me to get into, despite liking the grandparents story and how it slowly unfolded with the main characters story as well.
At the beginning I found the MMC to be very dislikable, despite their meet cute giving me all the feels, where it appeared she would give black cat and him sunshine vibes. However, in the follow up meetings, he really rubbed me the wrong way, treated her horribly and consistently jumped to conclusions.
Around 60% of the way through he started to grow on me, where he took after her when she gets sick. If I was judging the last 40% of the book it would be a solid 4.5⭐️, however, I cannot get past my initial dislike of the MMC.
I will say a massive redeeming factor of the MMC, was his sister, and her wife, who had absolutely no filter and had me cackling constantly!!
Why do I love romance stories when one of the main couple is a divorce attorney? It's unclear, but I can't lie, this was what drew me to this title when I read the blurb.
Sutton and Adrian were as great as I was expecting. Their chemistry and the parts of the story that focused on them were strong and engaging. I did think some of the secondary characters had a little too much focus, and at times it did feel like it derailed the story a little as I found the focus on the other characters to be a little distracting.
That said, when the focus was on the main characters, I was engaged with them, with the progression of the story, and I enjoyed them as a couple.
This was my first Dani Grimes book…and let’s just say I’ll be diving head first into all her books. This story reminded me of one of my favorite rom-coms, Letters to Juliet. Sutton is determined to prove that true love does exist, and don’t we all relate to that. She randomly moves to Boston to find said proof and runs into the grumpy irritating Adrian. Swoon! I love a good irritable MMC. Because underneath it all there’s a heart of gold!
His sister Sloane was my favorite character simply because she was determined to get Sutton and Adrian together. And don’t get me started on the spice…and the redemption type love that just proves my belief that there are multiple types of love you experience in your lifetime.
Thank you Grey Promotions and Dani Grimes for sending me an ARC copy of this fabulous book. I can’t wait to read the next one.

I was hooked on Unexpected Proof as soon as I started reading it! There was lots of banter and chemistry between Sutton and Adrian.
Sutton is a divorce attorney who just had her fiancé cheat on her along with her grandmother passing. Sutton has always heard the tale of this great love story from her grandmother and now Sutton is determined find proof that this still exists. Adrian owns a sports bar that Sutton walks into and refuses to leave without answers
Dani Grimes did a great job on the first book in the Boston series! This was a slow burn, but still had enough spice to last. I am so excited for more with this series!!
This is the first in a new series, and this is Adrian and Sutton’s story, Sutton is a high powered divorce attorney, who finds out that her fiancé is cheating on her, and her grandmother passes. Sutton wants to find proof that love exists after listening to her grandma’s stories. Adrian is recently divorced, and when Sutton walks into his sports bar, wanting answers, there is an intense connection between them. This is a well written slow burn story, which has family, friendships, emotions, loss, grief, truths, humor, witty banter, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, fun, and heartwarming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
I really liked the book 🥰 I loved the characters ! I thought they were loveable and funny. I also really liked the aspect of finding love while learning about another love story ❤️ It made me think about "The Notebook". It was also such a funny, heartfelt, cute, spicy story, filled with hope ! I also thought their 1st encounter was really funny. And I loved the fact that Sutton and Adrian kind of grew throughout the story. I'm so excited for Lavi and Sloane's story next ! So, I totally recommend this book if you want a fun, cute, spicy fast read 🥰❤️
This book came out last week and it is soo good. Sutton comes to Boston from NYC to find out if the love her grandmother described to her was as real for the Soldier as her grandmother described. Meeting and interacting with his grandchildren causes all sorts of fun and changes for her. I really enjoyed this story, my only wish is that we got Sloane’s story first instead of it coming after this one.
This book is both heartwarming and filled with spice. It’s a slow-burn romance that beautifully portrays the longing for someone to truly love and accept you. In her quest to uncover the truth about her grandmother's lost love, she might just stumble upon something unexpected – discovering that love with undeniable proof and reality. I loved it and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I loved this. It was the first book I’ve read by this author & I can’t wait to read more! Adrian & Sutton were steamy, swoon worthy perfection while Sloane & Lavi were hilarious in their meddling. Overall, this story was a heartwarming read with PLENTY of spice 😏 Bring on the rest of the series 🙌🏻
ARC Review This was my first Dani Grimes book and I loved it. Sutton and Adrian's banter and longing for each other was so good. You could feel their attraction and the build up was so good. The story within the story about their grandparents was heartwarming. I loved their love story. I know the next books will be amazing as well.
4.5/5 ⭐️ This book is just amazing. Adrian and Sutton both have bad past with relationships. But what brings them together is the true love of their grandparents from the war.
This book is sweet, heartwarming, steamy, and full of sass.
This was my first story by this author and I just loved it. I was hooked from the first page. Sutton and Adrian are both scarred from past history and see the world through the lens of those scars. I loved watching these two slowly get to know each other and grow as a result.
Sutton & Adrian felt like they were just meant to meet each other & their love story was just meant to be! What felt more surreal was how everything worked out with Ad & his grandfather, their last conversation was 💔🤌🏻😭
There were such tender, emotional moments that broke my heart so many times.. like when Ray told the truth of how he'd found Greta was the most emotional moment for me to read! But it was equally funny at places, the banter, the healthy flirting, i totally loved it!
Also, the romance-- it was perfect, slow-burn! Where two mature people actually fall in love & move ahead from there.. are true to their feelings & express things in a right manner.. there was clarity, there was trust, & I felt it was all worth my time!!
Definitely recommended!💕

I really liked this story and the sub plot about their grandparents was unexpectedly sweet as well as crucial to the A plot in an unexpected way. Sexy and argumentative in a way that pulls you in. If you’re a fan of hate to love or competent and sarcastic main characters definitely give this one a read
Listen I was here for a fun time. And the book in my opinion delivered!
It was a quick and fun read, but insta-love/lust is just not something I vibe with.
I also found it a bit strange when the writing would randomly change when the grandfather was telling his story, made it hard to understand. But I would like to note that as a granddaughter whose's grandmother had Alzheimer’s, I think this book portrayed the illness and the reactions of the family quiet good
I am delighted to have found Dani Grimes! This book has held my attention and captivated me with its wit, fabulous banter and vivid characters. When Sutton stumbles into a sports bar to get out of the rain and find an Internet signal, she meets Adrian, a fabulous hero whose attraction to Sutton is tempered by their initial sparring, something which is a huge part of the fun to be gained from their exchanges. These are exchanges are so much fun. They are barbed and sharp and hint at what could develop between these two focused, hard working individuals. Alongside these two we have the wonderful, sharp witted Sloane and the clever, beautiful Lavi. Their story is richly told and enhanced by the parallel story of Ray and Greta, which is so very poignant. Well written, with a well developed plot and filled with fun, this book has been a pleasure to read. This is an author I will be following! 💖💖💖💖💖
First time reading Dani Grimes thanks to a friend’s recommendation and I am totally hooked! I really enjoyed seeing Aiden and Sutton’s story play out along side with the grandparent’s love story as well which will give you all the feels. I loved it so much! Incredible storytelling and cast of characters that I fell in love with. I cannot wait to read Sloane and Lavi’s story next.
