Something broke inside of Sera Thomas after meeting her birth mother and learning just how horrible of a person that woman truly is. It’s not even just her human side that’s crushed, but her wolf is damaged after realizing how much she got wrong and has hurt Sera by blaming her for things that weren’t her fault.
Always two steps forward and three back when it comes to her mental and emotional health with how horrible life and the world around her are.
But because she learns from her mistakes and strives to do better, she immediately calls for help, and the people who love her are there to do whatever they can to support her. They hold her up so she can shield and protect everyone else.
So as much as things are messed up… They’ve got their act together better than a lot of us. Except others are saying that they feel like things might collapse and they’ve taken on too much. That’s a first.
What is the best way to fix such a complicated structure of packs and businesses and make it all stronger before any of their enemies try to take it down? Or before Sera’s heart completely breaks?

Seraphine Thomas is a crime series filled with Chicago attitude and a strong heroine that pushes what most would think a female lead capable of, along with the heat being involved with several men brings while trying to figure out what she wants.

*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.

Didn’t love this one. Felt like things were all over the place, too many things popping up in the story. Sera was constantly ranting to the point it was obnoxious. Instead of focusing on her wolf and reconnecting with those around her she pushes everyone further away. She’s become hyper critical of how all of her men treat her, but at this point she puts in no effort with them either. I know she’s been hurt in the past. But even those who haven’t consistently caused her pain she holds at arms length.

I’m going to keep reading this series because I like them but I wish the ranting and preaching would back off and they would go back to how the first books of the series were. More focused on friendships, relationships and a main FBI case for each book.

She deserves, as do the readers, a bit more stability in her relationships. I’m tired of these back and forth breakups. Heck, sometimes I feel like her therapist causes more trouble than anything.

Semi spoiler.

Carter. He is acting out of character. This change gave me whiplash. At the start of this book he is SO attentive and focused on her. Then suddenly, boom, he is apparently cheating on her? And every other character is also shocked by this. Instead of being concerned for him she immediately flips her shit and casts him aside. Childish. Especially when she can tell something is off with the woman too.

Rh. Vampire. Werewolf. FBI. Crimes. Rich. Relationship Drama.

Wow ok...
Alot always happens in these books and I'm in too deep to turn back now. I'm living for this drama. While I don't particular like Seraphine, I do enjoy reading about her life.

Everyone just seems to come out of the woodwork when it comes to Seraphine, like a lot of people from her past. I think they made small joke about it in either this book or the pervious one about how they wouldn't be surprised if a twin Seraphine turned up at this point.

I am gutted that Carter is out. He was the one that was most constant, and I felt like she was closest to even if they were only dating? I'm glad she punished him, and I hope she does that more because yeh all her guys just seem really stupid. I kind want to see Enzo again, I kind of like him for her but yeh you know he's going to do something stupid. But maybe if he just came over for more fun?

Lacking

This book lacks a story. It is the same whining about guys messing her over and how she is so overwhelmed and needs help. Pages of useless messing around that does nothing to move the story forward or resolve any issues. There is no plot and no depth to this and if this book had not been created you would not have missed anything in this series.

Wow

I love this series. Damn I cried for her this time. The more downs than ups is hard to read for Sera. She really needs to start being more selfish and let all the men in her life take care of her and more without the backlash for her, which I know is hard for her with the history. I love that Noah is backing her up all round and the new vamps are on board. Her wolves now need to do the same. The Carter story floored me, I had to read it twice and still cannot quite work it out. Yes I can totally see where Dain and Brian are on the outs, cant understand Eugene avoiding her, damn I have so many questions. But I trust you to piece it together some more in the next installment. I really cant wait. until the next one.

Good book.

I am glad that Sera is finally getting things done in her life on the business and FBI side but needs to do it in her personal life. Her men need to step up or "Grow the fuck up": and stop hurting her and causing trouble. But maybe they are getting there with the extra in this book. Though I wish we had more information on this invisible who or even what this person is. What they want and why. The hint about Sera's magic is great but get her training or do something about it instead of hiding it. The author has plenty of witch books bring in one of them or start a new witch series in Sera's world. Even do a book about Milicent. Speaking of Sera's older sister where is the middle sister and when is she coming into this book. Sorry about the rant the books are really great and this one is as well but there is so much in her world that is unanswered that needs more than one side book to answer.

I wasn't expecting heartbreak

Seraphine is such an amazing character that when she begins to break I feel like I'm having an anxiety attack.
There is no way I could have predicted that this be such a dark story.
Book 17 picks up a short time after the 'extra chapter' Noah's POV at the end of 16.
Sera's wolf matured recently but she's conflicted with her instincts and it's effecting Sera in a big way. But never fear because Grandma Eva has come to help.
On top of the issues with her wolf all of the men in her inner circle are acting like complete morons, I never ever thought that Carter would turn on her like he did and I'm shocked.
This book hurt me deeply with how Sera is being burried with supe and human nonsense and the woman just needs a vacation.
I love this series and this book was exceptional.

I just can't. Ugh I wanna but can't.

Let me start off saying I love this series. I love Erin's writing and I was excited to get back into it. However ... spoilers ahead... give the girl a damn break. Carter can not have done that he was her right hand I had such high hopes. And unfortunately I think that means I am done with the series. The ending of this book just killed me. I mean I think she needs less men. More permanent solutions for the men. Get rid of Hagan fix stuff with others and make permanent solutions . She needs a firmer base. Add men later. The parallels to this series and Anita Blake are really similar in frustration wise. I need her to have at least one healthy strong relationship. Where she's valued and loved it's been 17 books and we still don't have one that's solid so I am out. Or at least need a break.

Review of the Seraphine Thomas Series by Erin Flynn (Books 1–18)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Overall)

I’ve officially read all 18 books in the Seraphine Thomas series - yes, all of them - so you don’t have to (but maybe you’ll want to). I’m a longtime fan of Erin Flynn’s writing. Her stories are creative, emotionally rich, and often addictive. There's always at least one character per series you end up rooting for, and her talent for immersive world-building is undeniable.

That said, my experience with this series has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Let’s break it down honestly - but respectfully.

🔥 The Positives:
Compelling Worldbuilding: The supernatural FBI + polyamorous twist is unlike most in the genre. Think Forever meets Castle with a Vampire Diaries vibe.

Long-Term Character Arcs: The series spans a wide timeline and shows dedication to character growth (even if not always in a direction I enjoyed).

Addictive Early Books: Books 1–7 had me hooked. They had humor, high-stakes emotional drama, and solid pacing. These earned a solid 3.5/5 stars from me.

😬 Mixed Feelings & Constructive Critique:
1. Tone and Authorial Voice
While the author’s writing style is generally engaging, I personally found some of the commentary in the closing author’s notes and certain narrative choices to feel more personal or opinionated than expected in fiction. I completely understand the need to address issues like piracy, but I believe there might be more neutral or inclusive ways to communicate those messages.

2. Relationship Complexity vs. Clarity
This isn’t a typical “Why Choose” or Reverse Harem setup. It’s a deeply layered polyandrous dynamic - messy, intricate, and sometimes emotionally chaotic. If you're looking for straightforward bonding arcs, be prepared: the relationship development gets incredibly convoluted. Personally, I found the shifting dynamics between mates, sirened partners, consorts, and friends-with-benefits confusing as the series progressed. A glossary or relationship map might be helpful in future installments.

3. Character Fatigue
By Book 18, I found myself struggling to connect with many of the characters - especially the main character, Sera. She starts off as a resilient, sharp, and likable FMC, but over time, her decisions and relationship management felt inconsistent or frustrating. The push-pull dynamic in her personal life, paired with very little progress in her supernatural education even 18 books in, made it difficult for me to continue rooting for her.

Many love interests were introduced with big emotional weight, only to fade into the background or disappear altogether. Some characters who were well-developed and emotionally resonant (like Dain or Tristan) seemed to get less closure or fair treatment than others who felt more peripheral. In contrast, some relationships dragged on without significant development or payoff.

4. Pacing & Structure
Books 8–18 dropped to a 2.5/5 rating for me. The pacing slowed, and more focus seemed to shift toward commentary and expanding the cast rather than continuing the central storyline. Political and social themes started to feel more prominent than the core plot, which I found distracting from the fictional narrative I was invested in.

🧍‍♀️Sera Thomas (FMC):
Early-series Sera was fantastic: witty, brave, emotionally complex, and vulnerable. I loved her journey through the early books. But as the series continued, her indecision, emotional volatility, and seeming lack of introspection made it harder to sympathize with her. She often reacted rather than reflected, and by Book 18, she felt less like a hero and more like a character stuck in loops.

💔 On the MMCs:
Too many to list fully, but here are some key points:

Tristan: Felt unfairly treated by both the narrative and Sera. He brought a lot to the story emotionally and deserved more.

Dain: A standout for me. Loyal, strong, and emotionally available. Frustratingly underappreciated by Sera.

Brian, Riley, Hagan/Reagan: Relationships with these characters didn’t feel satisfying or necessary by the end.

Noah, Axel, Eugene, Jason: Struggled to leave a lasting impression. Some started strong but faded, others never quite clicked.

Carter: Felt like his storyline was mishandled. A simple conversation would have solved a lot.

Ari, Virgil, Lucca, etc.: Either forgotten or sidelined. At 18 books in, I’m struggling to remember who’s still important and who isn’t.

⚠️ Final Thoughts:
This series started with a bang but has become increasingly complex - sometimes at the expense of clarity, pacing, and emotional payoff. I’d still recommend it to readers who enjoy dark paranormal romance with poly themes, complex emotions, and an ongoing world that spans dozens of characters.

But for me, the series may have reached its natural peak. I’m unsure whether I’ll continue with future books unless there’s a notable shift in focus and tone. Still, Erin Flynn’s creativity and dedication to her characters is commendable, and I hope future installments bring some much-needed resolution to long-standing arcs.

TL;DR:
Started strong with a bold and complex heroine in a unique supernatural world. Became bloated with characters and unresolved plot threads. A frustrating but ambitious series worth reading - if you have patience.

Pure Magic **NO SPOILERS**

Seraphine Thomas Division Chief FBI Chicago (alt universe and totally not real obvs) all round boss in charge of way way more than she wants to be. She could be the original poster girl for HSE/OHSA workplace accidents. Bitten by a wolf shifter after chasing down said wolf criminal doing very bad things. He wasn’t just any wolf he was wolf royalty and now she is too, adopted into the Dorcus family of Greece who just happen to run that country.

Sera (Seraphine) is a siren wolf who is able to use magic and get the truth out of anybody. As a strong siren alpha wolf she needs multiple partners for support, physical, emotional and very very sexual needs.

After the disastrous experience of meeting the toxic woman who was her birth mother Sera is emotionally unstable, the woman was evil and manipulative who didn’t ever want to have children and who should have had the common sense to take preventative measures. It’s one thing being overwhelmed because every parent has been or will be at some point but it’s a far far different thing to plot to kill a child or abandon her amongst strangers. Things are so bad that her wolf doesn’t trust itself either. That’s just downright terrifying for an alpha in her chosen profession.

A strange case in a small town that Sera had to become alpha of (they tried to take her pack when she was abducted) leads Sera and her team down a rabbit hole of crazy fraud and cruelty. Fortunately in this instance the bad guys weren’t smart enough to cover their tracks properly. The case becomes personal for Sera when more and more evidence is uncovered. Bring it on.

Sera turns to her new family asking for help for people to act as advisors, and they definitely deliver. Old claims that were unequivocally proven false spring up again. Too much crazy all the time might just break her a she knows she has too many people who rely on her.

As an aside, eating kale? No thanks, hopefully Dain will get that. Read this series now!! You’ll love it.

I LOVED this series when I found it back in Feb, but this most recent book (Sept) was a let down. I thought maybe we would have more action.. either FBI or supernatural. But this book was just ANOTHER of her relationships breaking down, a sprinkle of sex, and a never-ending lament of how "I'm so broken, no one could ever love me" blah blah blah. I get emotions are not easy to work through and it takes time.. but this is a book where the main character not only turns into a wolf, but she is a siren that sucks a person's chi or energy when she kisses them. I think letting a bit of reality go would work fine here. It's gotten to the point it's super depressing.

This book did not enhance the story in any way, it was mostly filler. And the worst part is, the author has this way of keeping details secret to build the suspense in a situation, only to later SUMMARIZE how it was resolved. It leaves me feeling like I'm third or fourth in line on a game of telephone. You know, it starts out something simple "Molly had an apple she wanted to eat in the park".. then by the time it gets to me it's all chopped up and uninteresting so what I get is something lame like.. "someone ate in the park". It has happened in a few books of this series, but since nothing exciting actually happened in this book I noticed it a lot more. And it was more frustrating than normal. Especially when you have PAGES of one phone call where someone is getting shut down for spewing hate.. but you can't give us a little action when arresting a criminal ring, or a little detail when speaking about the politics or crimes.

I need more!

I'm very sorry about some possible spoilers or hints, so just skip ahead if you're reading reviews before you buy...

CARTER!? WHAT!? And that extra chapter with Brian and Dain... my heart is torn in two for Sera! Hagan I have kinda seen coming from how he's been the last few books but oh my goodness the heartache that I'm experiencing for her is unreal!

I'm so happy she's got extra help with older relatives and I honestly can't wait to see how that pans out. Please just give me more because Sera is a rockstar and I need her to escape my reality for a bit!

(Seriously though Erin R Flynn, your books are amazing. Obviously, prioritise you and vader, but honestly, if you write it, I'll buy it)

I love Sera

I this the only series I am still willing to spend money on, and even that is getting to and end! It's like Sera isn't progressing and she is constantly being hurt, you should see someone! You give her more problems and don't solve the current ones, it Is just tiresome to read. Like seriously, can we get back to her being a kick@ss and not whining and crying all the time? You made her strong, but keep hindering her with all the other stuff... Fix some of the current issues before piling on more.. We all know you like to keep your leads in horrible relationships and situations, but enough already! Happy Book Release day🍷

I’m feeling slightly brokenhearted for her

Honestly what did I expect from Erin r flynn if I’m not on rollercoaster of emotions did I really read one of her books. Honestly I’m exhausted for sera. Her wins feel like my wins and her losses makes me want to stay in bed and ignore my piles of shit. Doesn’t help that took the day off work to read this and stay I bed. But hey this is my favourite series. I loooove it. Read it on bed rest (pregnancy) during covid and I reread it every year. Supposed to be eveytime a new book comes out but hey I’m only human. I never want to stop reading this series.

betrayal and trauma of the heart

Sera has lots of organizing to do and I’m glad for family. Well the right kind of family. So the past comes for her and unfortunately it isn’t all sunshine and daisies. I mean not only is she dealing with her own trauma but she is dealing with betrayal from one of her lovers. I wasn’t expecting that and that just threw me for a loop.
I’m glad for the Greek family because they pulled rank and got everyone on track especially her remaining lovers. I cannot wait for the next book however I know it will be next year.

The roller coaster

While I enjoyed the story as always, I'm still wish Sera's life would get better, that her relationships would get better. Why do the men always have to mess up? Why can't altast one of them be close to good enough. I thought Eugene would be the one, but we hardly saw him in this book. It's still a great series and I will continue reading anything Erin writes.

My favorite Erin R. Flynn series!

Love this series. It delivers on all fronts for me. Sera is an amazing character. While cheering her on there's slot you can relate to going or wrong in her life. Can't wait to see if her relationship with Carter recovers. What path or solution is reached for the ancients. Also what's next for our mystery man? Friend or foe?! Lots to ponder as we wait for the next release.

Had my emotions everywhere

I love me some Sera and was so excited to jump back into her world. This book had a lot of ups and downs, that had me laughing out loud and then seething with anger. I love that Erin's books pull me in so completely that I get immersed and have my feelings all over the place. I truly recommend this series and hope others enjoy it as much as I do.

Only one minor annoyance

Love most of Flynns books, but lately, I've been noticing that they end in this monologue from the main character where they tie up all the loose ends from the story. That would be fine, but with this book, it felt like half the storyline was in the last chapter. It felt rushed at the end with so many random details.

Excellent as always!

Damn… I love this series, and cannot wait for the next release. Please let it be soon. This book was amazing and Sera’s finding balance in her life and finding her voice to say what she needs. hopefully she can keep growing emotionally and get her relationships with her idiot men to be thriving, if they can quit messing up.
