Taking baseball fans behind the microphone, into locker rooms, and through the most memorable season in Texas Rangers history, this firsthand account from announcer Josh Lewin is both insightful and entertaining. Recounting the Rangers' struggles during their pivotal 2010 season—when the Rangers team was up for sale, drugs and alcohol threatened the team's biggest star and their manager, and reaching the Fall Classic for the first time—Lewin's bird's-eye view of Rangers baseball reveals an intimate and surprising portrait of a team that went from league joke to a serious contender in the World Series. Witty and original, Josh Lewin provides an engaging but balanced account of one of baseball's elite franchises.
As a die-hard Texas Ranger fan, particularly the 2010 and 2011 teams and on down to our current roster, I really enjoyed the book. I was too busy raising 3 kids under 7 to actually watch any games at the time, so I missed seeing Lewin and Grieve during the broadcasts. He sounds like a great broadcaster and someone I'm sure the fans have missed. The writing was great. My only comment was that the chapter organization was a little jumbled. Other than that, all I can say is GO RANGERS!
I was a huge Josh Lewin before reading this book because he’s a great Sports Announcer now I’m a bigger fan because he’s a really good author. This is a must read for any Ranger fan.
It is amazing that one could attend an academic school like Northwestern and produce such a poorly written book. Being a big Texas Ranger fan and having listened to Josh Lewin call the games, I did wonder why the Rangers did not renew his contract. Now Iknow. He is physically a small man. The book shows him to be small intelluctually and emotionally.
Meh; skimmed. Despite the fact that is focuses on the one year I had season tickets, which was also the first year the Rangers made it to the world series. I loved Lewin as a broadcaster, and the book's okay.
A real lack of flow to the book. Included are bits about his personal life, career, rangers history, and his last few years with the team as an announcer. The stadium reviews were out of place filler.
