Cursed to not understand that when I felt nothing when I kissed men, it may have been a sign that I was wrong about my sexuality.
Cursed to finally understand that I was a lesbian in my sophomore year of college, only to have a disease eliminate any chance of me exploring those feelings in my last two years of school as everyone shuddered in fear in quarantine.
And now, cursed to work in an office with humming fluorescent lights, a gurgling water cooler, and zero women around me who are anything but straight, boring, and who seem to have already given up on being interesting whatsoever.
Except Rosalia.
There’s no way I could even try, though.
Right?
April has just gotten a job at Merihem, an anonymous and boring company that does boring and anonymous things. She’s fresh out of college and powerfully depressed about everything.
On her first day, she meets Rosalia, who sparks something within her she’s never felt before. The main problem is that Rosalia appears to hate the very idea of April’s existence.
But…April also finds that she is enamored with Rosalia’s hatred, by her darkness, and by the messed-up things she insists on talking with April about.
April becomes obsessed with Rosalia, and wants to earn her favor, no matter what she has to go through to get it. And, after some rough but desperately hot hookups and sex, April’s devotion to Rosalia only deepens.
It's a shame April doesn't realize that Rosalia is a demon until it's far too late for her to escape her clutches. A real pity.
This book is a dark romance from Chloe Slate, the author of the best-selling hits The Mansion and The Startup. But be warned, fair reader, the wicked tale contained in Prey For Me is far darker, far more troubling than any of Chloe's previous works. There's no fun to be had here...unless, of course, you find things like this fun...
Chloe Slate is an author of steamy sapphic romance stories and novels. She is deeply committed to write stories that are fun, edgy, over the top, and inclusive of people of the LGBTQ+ spectrum in all forms. A former music journalist and academic, Chloe lives in Indianapolis with her wife.
This book, like all of Chloe's books, is fast-paced and very easy to read and as always spicy AF.
This captivating dark romance follows April and Rosalia. April is new to the company where Rosalia works, Rosalia is a mean girl who likes to torment April, from day one and throughout the book. Rosalia is also a straight-up Demon.
Their romance is an enjoyable read. However, there are triggers present in the book. Please ensure you read these before reading the book, as although it is light on the dark side, there are still dark elements present.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters in this book, and the introduction of Ysabel was a delightful addition. Ysabel is a vampire and has been Rosalia's friend for centuries.
Definitely recommend this book along with Chloe's other books.

This was a mixed bag! There were some great elements to this novel. There were some good scenes, certainly some of the spicy ones, and some creative details throughout. The beginning started off strong and I honestly don’t have many negative things to say about the first half. The premise was interesting, and I think it is a clever idea for a dark romance. The novel did a good job at pointing towards a larger world beyond this story, but also failed to deliver on details or payoff.
I think the author is talented, but needs to seriously step up the proofreading and editing.
Unfortunately, there were some significant issues. There are so many continuity errors throughout that I found myself getting pulled out of the scene (at best) and full-on confused and frustrated (at worst). The number of inconsistencies and errors was baffling, although its not the first time I have seen this issue from this author. I was not editing the novel or combing through it with meticulous detail, but rather the mistakes were so obvious that it makes me wonder if this was proof-read even a single time. I don’t want to be mean, but it makes me wonder if the author even cares about their novel.
My Rating: "D" GoodReads: 2-stars
Spoilers below:
Putting aside what I assume are mistakes, there was also issues with the novel being unclear on other details or dropping plotlines. I don’t think this was intentional, like in an unreliable narrator situation. Did she imagine her psychologist? What is her condition anyways? What was a result of the demon and what was the result of her bad mental health was entirely unclear, and not in a clever or satisfying way. The past love interest (Charlotte?) was brought up several times and it “ended bad” but how and why and what was the relevance?
There were also spicy scenes that were foreshadowed but we never got. One in particular was perfectly set up and foreshadowed multiple times…. But never happened! In fact, the novel had a surprising amount less spice than I expected (there was lots, but I expected more!).
ARC copy received in exchange for an honest review
Actual rating 2.5/5
The premise intrigued me but sadly this didn't connect for me. I didn't really like the characters and the nihilism wasn't for me. The spice was well written though so points for that!
Others seem to be vibing with this so it may just not be for me so give it a shot
CW for review: mentions of mental health issues. As always, check author’s trigger warnings before reading!

Prey for Me is a dark, funny, and sexy demon romance. The demon in question, Rosalia, is reminiscent of your 90’s goth girl crush and SO satisfyingly mean.
This was no doubt a fun demon romp! But what really surprised me is the depth and realism of the main character’s angst. Yes, represented to the extreme, but perhaps deeply relatable to queer people who experienced mental health crises in their early 20’s.
Despite the dark themes, this was a genuinely funny read; perhaps even a (very) dark romcom. The side characters were great and I hope there’s a sequel.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I found a lot of elements of this book to be cringy and it had the potential to be great. For me some of things the characters said was just hard to swallow and get past. Not because of triggers, though this book has plenty, but because it was just so cringeworthy. This is a short book that I should have devoured, instead took me ages to finish. The personality shift of one the characters was off putting, I thought it was one character pretending to be her until that reveal never came.
Sailed through this read in two sittings. Easy and fast paced as another reviewer said and delivered on its description which I always appreciate.
First- if you have triggers - read the warnings. They will not steer you wrong. BUT if you’re like me and haven’t run into a real trigger - ignore it. There’s definitely some spoiler-ish things in that list. Could have been more vague about it Ala ‘Butcher and Blackbird’ but yeah - this is definitely dark with suicide, self loathing, verbal abuse, etc.
Second - I haven’t read a ‘demon’ or ‘monster’ book yet… at least I don’t think so. I’m not mad at it. In fact I immediately looked up book 2 and it does not exist yet but the fact that it’s book 1 of ‘The Demon Court’ series- gives me hope of more eventually finding their way to light.
You’re in April’s pov for most of the book and while she can some times feel a bit … whiney? It’s definitely a narration that pulls me in. Thoughts and feelings as they appear and all the self talk that most people throw at themselves. There’s definitely a tension and chemistry between April and Rosalina which is appreciated. Definitely a 9/10- would recommend.
That was definitely an interesting read. I don’t think I have words to describe it. It was definitely something new for me. This book caused a lot of emotions in me. First I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. Now when some feelings settled I can say it was a different read than I am used to but I liked it enough. It surprised me because I didn’t expect the story to go like that. So I guess that is good. I will read some other works of this author for sure.
Chat I have questions. Everything started out fine, flowed well, made sense and then idk when exactly it happened, but bro it got so confusing! Like was most of it psychosis from actual mental health or was her mind being truly fucked with bc of so much close contact with a demon? They never explained explicitly or maybe I was getting mind fucked bc I was reading about a demon lmfao. -2 bc I genuinely hated the ending tho
Sapphic demon dark romance? 😈 Tons of triggers? 😈 Sound like your vibe? Are you in a good head space for what's in store? Well then, by all means, come meet Rosalia.
So many triggers you may need to look some up If you have hesitancy over any triggers, proceed with caution. If you read triggers like an index selection of your favorite items, Chloe has you more than covered with this selection.

This book was so fun. I have to thank the author once again for letting me read the ARC. I truly loved it. It was weird, crazy and hot af. I read it so fast, like I haven't been able to do with other books lately. I will read more of Slate's books in the future, since this was my first approach with her work, but I need to read more. I loved how the absurdity of it all made even the hardest topics more manageable. That helped me through the reading and I didn't get triggered by some themes that usually really hit me. So what can I say other than GO READ THIS F***ING BOOK?!!!!! There's a lot of f***ing, and I loved it.
This is not a romance. I don't know what genre it is, but romance is isn't for sure. It's very spicy, but it's not romantic at all. There was one full sex scene between one heroine and her fuck buddy/lover and they have more chemistry than the main couple. They were fuck buddies for more than 200 years, and it was obvious that they knew and enjoyed each other. I don't know why this book wasn't about them, because Rosalia is obviously more into her than into April.
Rosalia is very experienced, while April is a virgin. I hate that trope and I should've stopped when I realized that there's a big difference between their experiences.
I've read more than half of the book, and Rosalia is now pushing April to have sex with someone else. How is this romantic? Where is the romance between Rosalia and April? Rosalia is mean and cruel to April, and April is infatuated with her and is willing to do anything to sleep with her.
And I understand that Rosalia is supposed to be mean and April is getting off on that, but it's not working here, because Rosalia doesn't seem to be into April at all. Even in her POV, she doesn't seem into her at all. I read bully romances, and even if the bully is mean to the other person, at least in their POV, they say that they're into them and they show it in some ways, but there's absolutely nothing that shows that Rosalia is into April, except some random thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere. At this point in the book, there should be at least some small clue that Rosalia is really into April, and that April isn't just infatuated with her and wants her for more than sex, but there was nothing. And there are so many other women mentioned - Rosalia has slept with all the women that showed up at this book, and April is flirting and kinda trying to seduce her therapist. These characters really shouldn't have been the main couple, it would've been better if Rosalia ended up with her vampire lover and April with her therapist.
It's described as dark sapphic romance but it wasn't even close to being romantic.
well what can I say. Reading this sapphic demon story was like a roller coaster, you never know what to expect.
I advise you to check the trigger warning list at the beginning of the book
It's a pretty good story but being smut there isn't much characters development. Nevertheless the end was something I really wasn't expecting, a total plot twist and if there will ever be a second book I'm in.
Prey for Me is a fast-paced dark romance novel featuring a sexually frustrated virgin human and a hypersexual demon’s hate-obsession workplace romance.
Thank you so much to the author for the ARC!
This was SUCH a fun read. This isn’t my usual genre but I think this book definitely solidified it as a new favourite! Although there was A LOT of triggering content in here, it was so carefully constructed and the author gives you a very fair content warnings page at the start of the book.
It’s told through both MC’s POVs and the characters are really well-rounded. April is so unhinged, I love her so much. You really feel like you’re going down the rabbit hole of her mind through her chapters and she is such an interest character. I really enjoyed Rosalia’s character too, I love when we get to see the soft spots of “villainous” characters and I’d love to learn more about her past.. maybe the next book will be a prequel? I’d love that!
The spicy scenes were SO GOOD. I need more of these two! And the character art is so beautiful. The last sex scene where Rosalia did that thing with April’s spine… damn I feel like I need that done to me 🤭
If you’re into unhinged women, chaotic relationships, crazy sex scenes, you will be obsessed with this book. I couldn’t put it down! It’s out now and available on Kindle Unlimited and paperback. I’d love to see this get a special edition with extra character art!
Prey For Me by Chloe Slate is a dark, sapphic demon bully romance that delivers all the right vibes! The story follows April, a lost and depressed 22-year-old trying to find her place in the world, and Rosalia, her bitchy, sharp-tongued trainer on her first day at Merihem. From their very first encounter, it’s clear that Rosalia lives to torment April, dishing out harsh words and degradation with a twisted kind of enjoyment. But for April, the sting of Rosalia’s cruelty only makes her crave her attention even more.
Despite Rosalia’s aggressive and hurtful demeanor, April begins to find truth in her harsh words and, shockingly, pleasure in her degradation. It’s a rapid descent into obsession for April, drawn to Rosalia like a moth to a flame, but by the time she realizes Rosalia’s true identity, it’s far too late—she’s already fallen too deep.
This story beautifully intertwines a coming-out narrative with a first-time discovery of desire and pleasure. Chloe Slate’s writing is sharp and engaging, hitting all the feels—especially the ones that matter! 😉🤤 Rosalia is the ultimate villainess: witty, fiery, and impossibly sexy. The contrast between Rosalia’s fiery attitude and April’s vulnerability gives their dynamic an extra layer of complexity, making the bully romance truly stand out.
Slate did an amazing job building the tension and exploring the darker sides of desire. I hope this is just the start of a series because there are other characters I’d love to see explored in future books!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
*Don’t let the cartoon cover fool you, this book is impossibly hot!
I really enjoyed this book!! Anyone who’s read some of this author’s work will know she writes some incredible sapphic smut and this is no different, without giving anything away, the spice is just 💋11/10. What I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I did is the actual plot itself. Unlike some of her other work (ie, the mansion) this book has a lot of plot and I found myself really gripped by it!
I absolutely adored April‘s character. She felt very real, and her motivations actually kinda made sense. Given the plot, I was quite surprised by this. It feels like Chloe put a lot of time into developing April’s character in a way that felt genuine and realistic, which I didn’t really expect in dark romance demon book. I found a lot of myself in her, and I think the way the author handled the topics of depression and suicide was really well done too.
Rosalia… she is just Mommy with a capital M. I need her. Immediately. I found myself really kinda captivated by her character and her motivations, and enjoyed seeing the dynamic play out between the 2 characters.
Where this book fell short for me, unfortunately, was the ending. I just wanted more. Without giving any spoilers, I struggled to understand our mommy demon FMC’s motivations with her decisions over the last 15 or so pages, and I just wanted more. I couldn’t knock more than half a star off for this though, as I did really enjoy the rest of the story and felt it was very well done.
If you like dark romance, demons and/or tentacles, give this one a go! Thank you to Chloe for the opportunity to read this before release, this did not influence my review.
In “Prey for Me,” April, a 22-year-old human, battles mental health issues that leave her feeling untethered in a world that doesn’t seem to fit her. She’s haunted by her own dark thoughts, sinking into a feeling of isolation. Enter Rosalia, a seductive and manipulative demon who not only understands April’s darkest fears but uses them to torment her. Rosalia feeds off of April’s vulnerabilities, pushing her further into a spiral of doubt and pain while tempting her with a dangerous attraction. Their dynamic is a twisted blend of cruelty and allure, with April constantly questioning whether she can truly escape the clutches of her own mind or if Rosalia is pulling all the strings from within.
The romance is both fiery and witty, spiced with dark humor and biting dialogue. April finds herself captivated by Rosalia despite the demon’s malevolent intent, drawn into a complex and disturbing relationship. The tension escalates as the line between reality and the supernatural blurs, leaving April unsure if her torment is self-inflicted or the result of Rosalia’s relentless manipulation.
With an ending that leaves readers craving more, the story hints at a larger world of demons and complex relationships lurking in the background. The hope is for a series that delves into these side characters, each with their own twisted stories and connections to April and Rosalia’s dark world.
I’m Gen-X and we’re basically a walking trigger warning. When I see a long list of trigger warnings it’s a novelty for me. But if you aren’t in a good headspace or have triggers please check them out before reading this book. The list is long!
Our main characters are a nihilistic suicidal young woman named April and a sexy sadistic demon who goes by the name Rosalia. This book was like nothing I’ve read before and I loved it. Never thought I would have a degradation kink but it was so hot watching April fall deeper in lust the more Rosalia treated her like a dog. I don’t want to give too much away but I found them an endearing and likely couple. To me they were a perfect match and I was rooting for them to find a happily ever after, whatever that means for a demon and her depraved lover. I couldn’t wait to see where their story would take me. The spice was abundant and sometimes over the top but in the best way. I really hope there is a sequel because I need more of April and Rosalia.
Prey For Me is a sapphic demon dark romance novel and it appears that this is being turned into a series! BONUS POINTS. Score!
In this story we follow April, a young, distraught and lonely 22 year old woman who feels like she simply doesn't belong. On her first day at her new job she meets her trainer, Rosalia. April quickly learns that Rosalia is quite the bitch and yet she can't help but seem to find her irresistible regardless of her bitchy and ruthless demeanor. As April continues to show up for work she continues to get belittled by Rosalia but it only turns her on even more. April is desperate to feel the physical touch of Rosalia and will do whatever it takes to get it.
This was my first read by Chloe Slate and it definitely didn't disappoint. I love a good dark monster romance and this one really delivered. I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series!
Also, can we appreciate this lovely cover? I'm OBSESSED.
Thank you, Chloe, for this ARC. Prey For Me will be released on October 22nd, 2024.
2.75 stars I really don’t know how to feel about this book tbh, it felt very bland to me , I found that I didn’t care for the characters especially the main one April who is literally the definition of pathetic. Her low self worth actually just became so irritating to me like yeah you hate your life we get 🙄 and also most of the problems she had were literally fixable but nooo instead let me devote my life to a succubus who was actually trying to save her from the world of demons and stuff. Also I don’t know if it’s a series or not because that ending makes it seem like it is but I don’t think I’ll be reading the next book if it is , This was literally a random book I saw for free on Amazon that I decided to read , I won’t recommend unless you like really depraved low self esteem characters
I honestly didn't know what to expect with this one but it was alright! I wasn't vibing with it at first but it definitely got more interesting as it went on. The spice was 4/5 for me! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rosalia and April. It was always there. Even when it wasn't supposed to be. The magnetism a was completely undeniable. Rosalia tries to keep her distance for her own reasons and she's not selfish when it comes to April. She wants to protect her from what she is. It takes a lot to happen before she even considers letting April in. That decision on it's own changes everything. April needs to adjust now to what she is. I feel like everything turned out how it was supposed to.

Definitely a 10/10 on the spice levels. The obsession of the main characters was well written as well. More than a few times my reading session was ended with some spicy adult time of my own.
Overall the book was completely worth the read. The only criticisms I have for it are some slight spelling/grammar errors. Also, it was too short! I wanted more! I think some of the relationships could have been more expanded upon, and there were some plot things near the end that I didn't feel like was at all resolved. Like it felt it was just kinda breezed past and then the book continued.
Absolute sinful goodness. I've never read anything quite like Prey For Me, but I'm so glad I did. What a wild, spicy, and unique ride! The dynamic between Rosalia and April had me on the edge of my seat, and I never knew what was going happen, but things always evolved in exciting and fulfilling ways.
The book is exactly as advertised: it is a deliciously dark fantasy, so I'd recommend taking a peek at the content warnings kindly provided by the author prior to reading. But if you're on the hunt for some spicy sapphic excitement with a thrilling dash of fantasy, know that you're in the right place!
I was searching for a less tame and more shocking read and oof, did I find it with this one. Let’s just say my jaw was open the whole time reading this. April, protagonist, deals with a plethora of mental illness from self image, depression, lack of self-worth, and more. (TW’s are provided at the beginning of the book.) In comes Rosalia, the demon with the “goods”, she’s got what April needs to feel something, anything. This will not be the last book I read from this author! If you like reading a story with a shock ending, and the thought of loosing your inhibitions to a demon is exciting—Check it out!
Chloe Slate knocks it out of the park every single time - I have loved The Erotes Circle series, the Speed Dates series, and all the other books she has released but this one truly expanded into a different place than any of her other books so far.
It features a bad ass woman who you are forced to not like at the beginning but begin to like as time goes on as you explore the story of her being/becoming a demon.
If you're looking for a very (VERY) spicy wlw book that you won't be able to put down, I highly recommend this (or any of Slates other works)
Dark romance and monster smut are new ground for Chloe Slate, and it would be easy to pigeon hole her as a straight forward smut writer but what she has given us here is the same high quality sapphic romance - this time with added tails and tentacles. Once again sex and desire are used to push the plot forward without removing character or narrative agency. I am excited to see where Slate pushes herself and her writing next.
Chloe Slate takes us on a new devilish ride with her character creations in Prey For Me. The spice level is Ghost Pepper, and the storyline is intriguing, kinky and gives a whole new meaning to the enemies to lover's trope in lesbian fiction.
There is a list of trigger warnings readers should note before proceeding. It is a story with demonically beautiful conclusion.
The nihilism was a lot, but the spice was great. There also were some tough subjects discussed (check the trigger warnings!) and at least one plot point that never was resolved that left questions.
Definitely an interesting premise and worth the read - it’s fast paced, the spice was excellent, the characters were pretty alright (at best), and overall I enjoyed the story experience.
first of all, give this author an editor! i HATE the writing style with a passion. second of all, idk what my exact feelings about this book are. the sex was hot, yes, but i didn’t need to read pages and pages of rosalia and ysabel’s sex endeavors. i was here to read april and rosalia’s romance, not the other ppl they’ve sex with. i would’ve also liked the author divulging more about april’s hallucination of the therapist Dr. Mitchell

Chloe Slate does it again!!! Trigger warning galore! April is a very depressed 22 year old and Rosalina is a demon who knows all of April's dirty and depressed thoughts! All I can say if you love sapphic dark fantasy romance this is a must read! And I need soooo much more of their story!
The spice level may be too much for me, personally. However the eroticism is well written and empowers the female characters. I was surprised to by how much I grew to like the main character April. April is relatable mess of depression, loneliness, and horniness and brings so much personality.
