The Devil's Prey: Iona Pax Book II
The 2006 invasion is old news. The galactic war is over. And the newly minted Concerted Empire of Iona Pax is moving forward. Day by day. Night after night.
Although most people have moved from Earth to live in the Utopian Dyson Sphere, those who stay behind still need law and order.
Investigative Prosecutor Davin West was a regular detective before Invasion Day. Before the powers that be combined his title with prosecuting attorneys. Now, he has to collect the evidence, gather the suspects, and prosecute the case. But the bad guys don't go to prison anymore—No. They go to a cushy spa-like rehab in the futuristic Dyson Sphere.
I.P. West isn't sure how he feels about it. For cases like his current one, The Locked Room Killer, he sometimes wishes for the good old days when serial killers walked the green mile.
But West's new partner, I.P. Charlotte Markham disagrees. She’s a former prosecuting attorney with a successful conviction record that put Davin's arrest record to shame. She believes in justice, but she also believes in reform.
They've been thrown together on this high-profile case to find the link between the victims, three so far, and they were all crime bosses. Each of the Last Bosses had worked behind the scenes during the Invasion. They'd thrived while people suffered—monsters, really.
But Charlie reminds Davin that justice comes first, and they'll close this case. Hopefully before the Locked Room Killer strikes again.
