Favorite of the series, hands down. I love Hisashi and Mao so much. Every time Hisashi leans his head on Mao to "recharge", I melt into the floor. So, so sweet.
Disappointed I didn't like these sequels as much as the original story. I also wish we could've seen the parent visit!! I'm happy there's more coming because I want to see more. I wish I had written my review when I finished these since I definitely had thoughts, but now I can't remember them.
Not gonna lie, I'm a bit disappointed by this volume. The class trip feels like a detour, especially since Mao and Hisashi are apart for most of it. While I had fun reading this, it's not my favorite installment of the series.
It's funny to look back on my initial reactions to this series, because it's absolutely a top favorite now. Top ten, easily, possibly top five, although I'd need to think through my list.
Honestly, it just needed the smut to story ratio balanced out a bit, and suddenly it was perfect. I absolutely loved both volumes of Long Take, which I wouldn't have expected earlier in the series, when I liked Hisashi and Mao but wasn't all that invested in them. They're gaining a ton of depth over time, which is actually more realistic as they and their relationship matures. It started out as a friendship thing, then quite frankly kinda just two horny guys in the prime of their life having fun, then transitioned into significant feelings and thoughts about the future.
And now that we're in that stage, it's so, so good. I love seeing them growing individually, and together, with Mao working a lot on being more in tune with other people, and Hisashi doing his hardest to come out of his shell and be the kind of person Mao already fully believes he is: talented, kind, hardworking, so many wonderfully embarrassing compliments that Hisashi is learning, slowly, to accept, even if he doesn't fully believe them just yet.
This volume was mostly about their school trip, where they learned that being apart isn't necessarily a bad thing - it gives them opportunities to build other friendships and to learn more about each other through different types of communication. Love having that mixed in with Jin and Ichikawa having one of their big explosive fights and make-up sessions during the school trip - with Jin following him there because he'd thought Ichikawa was breaking up with him and desperately needed to see him and talk him out of it.
I adore them so much, too, and I'm so happy their story's getting a sequel. Although at this point I also really, really want to see Hisashi meeting Mao's family.
Ugh these two!!! I loved it. They’ve grown so much since they were the sad little lonely kids in volume 1, I’m so proud of them. There’s some truly beautiful panels in this volume as well, I think this one and volume 5 were really the best when it comes to art and panel structure. I’m sad the series is over but I’m excited for the spin-off/sequel to afterimages in slow motion! Volume 2 was my favorite so I’ll be eagerly awaiting the English release.
This volume is once again focused on Hisashi and Mao. There is a bit of conflict when Hisashi has reservations about taking a step in their relationship. They talk it out for the most part, but things still feel a little unsettled.
Unfortunately, it's class field trip time which means the two have to spend quite a lot of time apart. This is a struggle for both of them, but they start to find different ways to connect when they can't physically be together. There's quite a bit of growth for both of these boys during the field trip which helps to strengthen their relationship. I thought this was a fitting end to Hisashi and Mao's story.
Relacions a distància, convivència i potser matrimoni?
i definitely enjoyed this follow-up to the first part. mao and hisashi will forever be cemented in my heart. i enjoyed their trial of not fully understanding one another but ever willing to traverse those bumps in the road, no matter the outcome. it is not often that you see or come across this type of dynamic in M/M relationships, fiction or otherwise. i cannot wait for more stories to come.
sweet ending! i really like that there wasn't really any sort of huge miscommunication trope with mao and hisashi and that they really talked their worries through. such a solid volume and finale to their story! i'm very eager to see what else is coming for the other pairings as the follow-up was announced.
I’m completely obsessed with Twilight Out of Focus! Every single couple stole my heart — their chemistry, their struggles, their love stories... I adored them all. The art is absolutely stunning, full of emotion and tenderness in every panel. I just love these boys so much!
I didn't love the class trip story line. This series has been just okay to me. Its kind of dull to me. The drama isn't really engaging. I like the art and how each of the three couples are different and feel unique.
give me 6 more volumes please 🤲🏼🤲🏼 i refuse to accept this is the end of this series. i am just so in love with the art, story telling, and all the characters 😭
