Fantastic book about four computer operators killing time together on their night shifts in the 1970s. There's a wonderful sense of that time period - the music, the cars, the politics, and of course the technology - the computer they are working with is the size of a room, and running the operating system involves feeding paper into a machine to print out code. The characters are all distinctive from each other; steriotypical in a way but that is no bad thing: to say that this reads like a UK sitcom is very much meant as positive comment. Each chapter is like a lighthearted comedic episode, and the fact that almost every chapter is set from dusk till dawn makes for cosy late night reading. A lot of laugh out loud moments with a set of characters you'll grow to love.
