Prelude to Batman The Long The Last Halloween! You thought you knew the whole story of The Long Halloween…you were wrong! The final collaboration between legendary creators Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, this special uncovers a deadly mystery that could destroy Batman, Commissioner Gordon, Two-Face, and…well, that would be telling, wouldn’t it? Don’t miss out on this special prelude to THE LAST HALLOWEEN.
Joseph "Jeph" Loeb III is an Emmy and WGA nominated American film and television writer, producer and award-winning comic book writer. Loeb was a Co-Executive Producer on the NBC hit show Heroes, and formerly a producer/writer on the TV series Smallville and Lost.
A four-time Eisner Award winner and five-time Wizard Fan Awards winner (see below), Loeb's comic book career includes work on many major characters, including Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Hulk, Captain America, Cable, Iron Man, Daredevil, Supergirl, the Avengers, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, much of which he has produced in collaboration with artist Tim Sale, who provides the comic art seen on Heroes.
A fantastic tribute to Tim Sale which resparks the hype and excitement for one of comics' most iconic stories. Whilst it is simply a set up for what is to come, it feels special to return to this world after so many years, and it appears to be Loeb's love letter to not only Batman, but to Sale as well.
This is a reissue of The Long Halloween Special as a prologue/#0 issue to The Last Halloween, with a lovely tribute to the late Tim Sale. I read this not knowing it was a reissue so it’s an accidental re-read, but I’m not mad about it. Just as good the second time around.
Batman the Long Halloween is easily one of my favorite comics. The sequel was good, but I HAD to read the 3rd in the trilogy. #0 was pretty great. I don't know where the story goes yet, but I'm liking the ride.
We got one final gift from Tim Sale. And what a gift it is. So happy this got made. These books are always so much fun. Never a dull moment. Rest in peace Tim Sale. You will be missed.
Good Batman comic with a nice old school look. I drop one star off because for a «Halloween» issues, it didn’t really get anything from it except the date the even took place.
Decent set-up that does more explaining what's about to happen than it does to hook you into the story. While this issue #0 is still good, don't mistake it for the quality of storytelling and hook you'd expect from issue #1.
I didn’t do my research before buying this title. This is the same story as The Long Halloween Special from 2021, but it’s now re-issued as a #0 for the upcoming ongoing series The Last Halloween.
The story is good and the art is great (RIP Tim Sale). 4/5 stars. It’s worth reading if you enjoy the previous Loeb/Sale collabs.
I deducted 2 stars because it’s just a reissue of a story people have already bought and read.
Art was on the lesser side of Sale’s typically fantastic work with a few killer panels sprinkled throughout. The story was fine, a passable set up for a larger story that simply avoids answering a few big questions. Generally this team puts out the highest caliber Batman stories so any foray into this world is worth your time.
I keep putting off reading the Long Halloween, I was hoping this would give me the kick up the back side I needed to go read it. But this was just average, and I find myself in no rush to read the previous books.
I mean, I’m excited that this is the jumping off point for a new story now but without Sale… Also I’m confused how Calendar Man escaped. Again. At least Harvey and Gilda are together for better or worse. My guess worse…
Somehow I held off reading this series. I collected #0 to #4. Just now getting around to reading them. This was a great start. Loved the original Long Halloween and I enjoyed the prologue.art & story 5 stars easy.
Fine as a setup issue, I guess. I thought Dark Victory did its job as a Long Halloween sequel, so I'm curious to see what exactly was the drive for making The Last Halloween.
