Cracking Crystals

Rate this book
Alexander Enfield is your average fellow who hates digging in the 1855 Australian Ballarat goldmines to provide for his soon-to-be family. When a man apparently from 2023 turns up, desperate for something called ‘crystal meth’, all of Alexander’s world views are shattered. He can’t get the man out of his head. Then he accidentally time travels to 2022, and things get a lot more complicated.

This is not a romance novel. This is an adult psychologically-accurate contemporary drama with big themes of mental health that happens to be a love story. Drama, sci-fi, historical fiction, gay romance, and mental health all flow naturally together throughout this novel.

It's an exploration of queer love and internalised homophobia, suicidal ideation, neurodivergency, and mental illness such as drug addiction. All of this ties into relationship issues. In the end, you have to ask yourself, is it worth it?

Written by an author with lived experience, the protagonist is unknowingly autistic, biromantic, and asexual. The secondary protagonist is also queer and has BPD, ADHD, and a meth/heroin addiction.

If you're ready to be wrapped up in a painfully truthful story about mental health and love, this is the novel for you.
