SUITABLE FOR 15+ Tezzi's Point of View: Just the Beginning
Trolls... We've all heard the stories. The childhood tales forever imbedded in our minds. Tezzi is no different. She would sit in bed night after night as her mother told her of the trolls. The tales of the Dark Woods are keeping her up at night. And she dreams of a lush dark place only in fairy tales. Her heart pounds and her feet want to take flight. She feels her mind running. Running towards a fantasy, running towards adventure, running towards something she's only dreamed about.
I'm Amanda Kay, a married mother of two. I have a degree in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science. Writing has always been a way for me to release the stress of everyday life. After a while I decided I wanted to share my stories, but I wanted them to be affordable for all so after some careful consideration I decided that my E-books would always be just $0.99 cents (USD). Mission
My mission is to hopefully give readers a voice. As a teacher and mother of two I see the struggles teenagers and young adults face every day and I hope my stories can be something they can get lost in, but also find hope in.
Vision
My vision is to inspire every day. Not only through my writing, but also in how I carry myself and interact with people on a daily basis whether in person or online.
Running by Amanda Kay a full of surprises four star read. This is the first book in the Dark Woods tales, and is Tezzi’s tale. It’s a YA F/F read and it’s the second book by this author I have read, and I will keep reading her books, she writes with a freshness that’s great, but you do need to keep an open mind when you read her books, and allow the book to take you on a journey that doesn’t always take you to places you expect. This tells us the story of Tezzi and Kea and their story, we get to be taken along for the ride, meeting other characters such as the trolls that could have been featured more but overall, we get good descriptions and scene setting, something that you don’t always get in the type of genre. I also loved the F/F aspect, as it’s something we don’t see often in this type of genre. I can’t wait for the next book in the series, and more from Amanda Kay.
This was a super quick, short, fun read that kept me wanting way more than I expected when it came to this book. I wasn't 100% sure what to expect, and I was not disappointed. RUNNING focuses on Tezzi, and Kea. There are many, many secrets that are hidden between all of the characters, and I was not prepared for everything that ended up happening. Definitely a must read if anyone is interested in a short, romantic, fantasy read!
I give Running 4 stars. I felt a bit disconnected from the characters, but am not sure why. There's definitely a mystery unfolding within the mystery of the trolls and hopefully the next novella will provide the answers. The plot was okay but still not sure what it's getting at...
Amanda Kay is a new author to me and has definitely left me curious to know the results of Kea and Tezzi's story. Her description of the characters and the events was very good, however not much information provided about the trolls.
Tezzi and Kea officially meet at Vlukens Grove when their school outing brings them together as tent partners. They quickly become good friends and even more. When Tezzi discovers her secret, she is upset. She's mad. What is Kea's secret?
Tezzi has lived her whole life based on the stories her mother told her about Vlukens Grove. Stories that nightmares are made of, and she stays awake at night thinking about the dark woods, and the trolls that live there. Her mind is always running towards those woods and she is heading there soon to try to get proof of the trolls, and save her mom. Will she be able to save her?
Kea is the new girl at school, having recently moved down the street from Tezzi. She will be participating in the trip to a Luke s Grove also. Who is this new girl?
Running is a young adult fantasy romance novella that talks about young love, betrayal, and has a lot of mystery surrounding it. There is a cliffhanger at the end so if you have to have closure this is not for you.
I enjoyed it and look forward to getting to the bottom of the mystery.
I was intrigued by the synopsis of this story, especially that it is YA. Knowing that it was YA and F/F definitely made me want to read because I figured it would be relationships and romance without the sex (a refreshing change). I will admit the idea of trolls being the fantasy/paranormal theme of the book had me a bit worried (as I think of the sweet, colourful trolls we grew up with). While I realize that Running is part of a series, I wished the author had delved a little more into the trolls. However, the story is told from the POV of a human main character. The characters were likeable and fit their age and setting. I did feel that the love story between the teen women was a bit rushed and would have loved to have seen their relationship grow and develop more. I got a sense of their connection and their backstory lends itself to the two of them having a fated connection. Running was a quick read. The story line is intriguing and will definitely have to be read in its entirety of the series to fulfill the reader's curiosity and will fill in any gaps left in this first instalment. I look forward to reading the second instalment to see where Amanda Kay takes this story. D 3/5
Running by Amanda Kay is Book 1 in The Dark Woods series, dubbed Tezzis Tale. It's a YA F/F fantasy romance told from Tezzis point of view.
Even though a Running is listed as a fantasy romance, there was hardly any interactions with the fantasy elements, Trolls in this case. Ultimately, it's a love story and the lengths one will go to for those they love.
The story itself felt a bit disjointed and I don't think enough time was spent on creating the emotional connections between them, but I did like the stories originality and am looking forward to seeing how the story ends. As this is Book 1 in the series, it does end with a cliff hanger so be prepared for that.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
I just want to start off by saying I give this book 5 stars. I was so deep into the book wanting to know more. I can't wait for the second book to come out. It started off a little slow and confusing but the more I read the more I started to understand the secret that was being kept was for everyone's safety.
This is the first time I have read a book by Amanda Kay, and oh my I really love this book, it is an Young Adult F/F ,, its usually not my thing to read f /f books but this was really good, Tezzi is on a mission, when she meets Kea the two form an automatic connection. They began journey neither one was coming . I highly recommend this book, its perfect for young adults it's clean but the story is non stop, I really want part 2, loved this!
Running: The Dark Woods Tales 1 (Tezzi's POV: Just the Beginning) Universal Link: books2read.com/u/bw8XEY JUST $0.99 CENTS!! #oneclick and begin the journey. #FemaleFemale #YA #Fantasy #Romance
I really loved this one. The blurb is what made me want to rad this one. I never read a book that had trolls in it so that's what made me want to read this one. It does have F/F elements in it but this is a YA book so there is no graphic F/F scenes. I'm a little on the fence with F/F books but Amanda writes Tezzi and Kea's story in such a way that all I saw was love and it didn't matter that the were both female.
Tezzi is a girl that doesn't conform to the mainstream teens. Compared to her peers, she's a bit odd. She wants to uncover the true story of the trolls that live in the woods. Her school trip to the woods in the prefect opportunity to do that. Kea is a new girl at school. She is paired up with Tezzi for the field trip. Kea and Tezzi hit it off pretty quickly. Kea has a secret which is pretty big. The story does end leaving us hanging and I can't wait for more.
