Romance, intrigue, and suspense~a surging novel of the French Revolution!
Lovely young Manon Lamont arrived in Paris on the eve of flaming revolution. Already, the blood-red shadow of the guillotine hung over King Louis XVI and his queen, Marie Antoinette. It was a time when aristocrats were in danger of retribution and sudden death. And Manon, in spite of her poverty, was an aristocrat--the estranged daughter of a wealthy nobleman. How could she hide her years at Versailles or her friendship with the enchanting, flirtatious Rose de Beauharnais who would someday become Napolean's Empress Josephine?
The turmoil swirling around Manon was echoed in her own heart, for she was blindly in love with one man, adored by another, and two jealous women were plotting to denounce her as a traitor and spy!
I found this book about 20 years ago in a used PB shop and fell in love with it. Set during the French Revolution it tells a bittersweet story of one young woman's experiences during that dangerous era. I don't know why this book has stayed with me all these years but the very sweet and clean depictions of the heroine's romance really touched my heart and I've found it unforgettable.
Manon Lamont has come from Fontainebleau to Paris to make a living from her pottery. She has lodgings in the home of Madame Perrot and her two sons, Paul and Jacques. It is 1791 and the Revolution in Paris is heating up. Manon is an aristo, the daughter of Henri Coucy de Lamont. As time progresses, things worsen in Paris with the king and more being guillotined. More people are imprisoned, including Manon.
