I so wanted to love this more and feel that maybe I should binge read it when more volumes come out because I feel that's the best way I would enjoy it?

I am unsure if it was the story itself or how uncomfortable I personally felt in seeing SO much of myself Panko that it was hard to read because I related to her in such a painful way. The way she never stands up for herself because she doesn't want to make people angry hit me so hard and I think it's ultimately why I didn't overwhelmingly love this first volume, which is hard to admit. I feel like this story is set up in a way where I KNOW Panko is going to find freedom from that "worry" in not speaking up because near the end there was one moment where she did and I completely cheered! She deserves so much better and I really hope she only becomes happier as the story goes on!

Ryouhei is fantastic! I agree with Panko that I was nervous about him at first, but I LOVED seeing how caring and bold he is! I think he will really help Panko slowly start to say no to things she doesn't want to do as well as be more open about the things she loves and likes. He's a really really great male lead!

I also loved how the romance is slowly blooming as I have no doubts it will be beautiful, but for now, I think I will come back to this series at another time when I feel more mentally prepared to read someone so similar to myself. 🥹

Hey, this is kind of okay. It’s not perfect, even an aged up faux-delinquent story is still just a faux-delinquent story, but it’s certainly worthwhile if you’re into the genre.

The opening of this is a hell of a downer though. Poor Tomoko is not one to stand up for herself and this volume is large swathes of her being trampled on by her job, her boss, her coworkers, and her mother. At least her dog doesn’t bite her.

Ryohei is rough around the edges, but no points for figuring out that he has the proverbial heart of gold. In a world that doesn’t care about Tomoko, well, he certainly does and he’s happy to insert himself into her field of vision.

I think your enjoyment of this mostly comes down to how much you can endure seeing Tomoko getting dumped on. While things pick up as they go, she’s still not quite there in terms of asserting herself. It’s also her predominant personality trait at the moment.

Outside of the wallowing, she and Ryohei are clearly attracted to one another, but I don’t think that I would quite say that they have chemistry, precisely. Ryohei is mostly a nice guy, but he acts, for lack of a better term, weird at some points.

It makes for a choppier read than intended; the storytelling doesn’t always gel quite how I’d like. Some of it is fun enough, but there’s something missing here that would make it a great book rather than an okay one.

Partly it’s down to the aforementioned chemistry, I suspect. On the one hand, these two get along and bond, sure, but it feels pretty thin. While she eventually comes around, I think the kiss is definitely done a specific way to make things more equal, Tomoko is very wary of Ryohei for quite a while.

It’s an okay romance and, if you like the whole ‘rough guy who’s actually a softie’ angle, this will absolutely fulfill its stated mission. On that basis it’s certainly not offering up anything it can’t provide. Then again, something like Love, That’s An Understatement mops the floor with it.

3.5 stars - a lean 3.5 at that, but we’ll see how it goes next time out. It’s a rocky start, in more ways than one, but I didn’t hate it and there’s enough in it to bring me back for a second volume.

OMG, this was so cute! A guy with punk hair/attitude meets a timid girl afraid to say no. I just love these two and I love seeing them get closer. I was shipping them like mad and I want them to start dating ASAP. I love that he is working at a bicycle repair shop that was so fun, not something you often see in manga. I was also so proud when Tomo said No to the guy at her work who likes her (she isn't into him, she is more into our punk guy even though it takes her a bit to realise, haha). The art was fun, at times the faces didn't work, but the rest was nice.
Oh, and the bonus was a nice glimpse into our punk's backstory/the friend otaku he has.

Note augmentée à 5 pour le début 2025 - la série le mérite amplement;

Picked this up thinking it'll be cute and not much else, but there's actually more depth than I expected. Without going into spoilers, the story goes into Tomoko's upbringing and reveals how much anguish her people pleasing tendencies causes her, which I find relatable and know a lot of women would as well. On top of that, Tomoko has a cute dynamic with Ryohei and I totally understand why they would be drawn to each other. Excited to pick up the next volume.

Super cute!!!! Really enjoyed this. It's not ground breaking or life changing but it's a sweet little fluffy read!
Also major points for the characters being late 20s early 30s. 🤌 That's so hard to find in romance Manga.

A young woman with an office job in a rural city meets a local bike repair man. He looks like a bousouzoku (biker gang) but is actually a gentle soul who cares about his friends and family, and looks out for the young woman. Their slow romance is super cute and I loved the real-life things that happened to them. I read until volume 4 I think. Can't wait for more.

A decent start to a series, but not terribly engaging. Tomoko Hanno is thirty, has trouble organising her life and a dead-end job where she's constantly unhappy. Only anime shows bring her some joy. She doesn't know it, but Ryohei Takahashi, who owns a bike repair shop she goes by every morning, has noticed her, or her bicycle that needs repairing.

The two meet up when he fixes her bike on a go, and he frightens her with his looks and abrupt manners. But since she can't say no to anyone, she agrees to bring her bike to his shop for repairs. It begins a rather odd friendship, leading to a maybe romance. He likes how she eats large protions, and she likes how he likes anime too.

The story was mostly about Hanno's life, her work and her relationship with her mother, and an attempt to date a coworker. We don't learn much about Takahashi, but the extra story at the end shows how he and his best friend became friends. I was a bit bored by the first volume though, and probably won't continue with this.

I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I'm so stoked this got a licensed translation! I started the live action recently and was curious how well it followed the manga. So far it seems to follow it to a tee but the interactions in the manga play out less slap-sticky than the live action.

Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the DRC~

I love the beginning of the story and how they quickly go from strangers to budding something. Their banter is cute, especially when Panko speaks her mind to him. They're so opposite but complement each other's character well.

While I do know how the story goes, I'm excited to read each volume as it gets translated. The art style is so cute and fits their characters so well.

I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a cute slice of life.

This is a very solid 4. The beginning half feels a little rocky, but by the second half I'm invested in the budding relationship. I'm a sucker for the nice delinquent type. There's significant ly less manga that focuses around adults, so having the focus on late 20s-eaely 30s is awesome.

The art is a rougher style, but I find it really charming, and you can tell everything is hand drawn. I love seeing a story set outside of Tokyo too. I believe this place in the Gifu prefecture and most of the cast has kansai dialect influence in their dialog.

Looking forward to vol 2

This was fun! This is one of those graphic novels that open backwards and was a fun experience to read!

Story wise, my French is a little bit out of practice (a lot to be real!) so I’ve enjoyed the experience but feel like missed some parts because of the language barrier, hence I won’t rate the book.
