After five years on the run, Sunday has finally settled into a seemingly normal life in Columbia, South Carolina. What her two best friends don’t know is that Sunday has a secret past. She is the Incarnate, a conduit of mystical energy transcendent of the mundane and the divine. For most of her life, she served under Bernadette, the most powerful witch in the Northwest. Her power is terrifying, and what she remembers of her past—and what she doesn’t—haunts her.
In the year that she’s been attempting to be anything but the Incarnate, Sunday has fought her abilities tooth and nail, but it’s been worth it. When Sunday joins her friends’ coven for an innocent gathering, Sunday discovers a darkness hidden beneath the blanket of the coven’s magic and she is determined to find out who is behind it and what she has planned.
For the last four years, Cyrus has been the point man on the contract to recapture the Incarnate and deliver her to the Pastophori of Iset. A gifted tracker and a fearless werewolf, he harbors a wild, inexplicable passion for the Incarnate that has driven him to hunt her. He was one of the original captors that brought her to Bernadette when his obsession with her began. Having found her, Cyrus and his pack find themselves torn between two objectives: take her by force and deliver her to yet another group of fanatics, or help her uncover the traitor among her coven.

Cristy Rey is the author of the urban fantasyIncarnate series. She also writes and publishes unconventional romantic women’s fiction. She’d say she writes the books Jane Austen would have written if Jane had been a riot grrrl. Cristy lives in South Florida where she spends most of her days in a library and most of her nights surrounded by cats.
Not only did I read it, I wrote it. I'll leave off my rating so that I don't seem like a putz, but this book is definitely worth a read. Werewolves. Witches. Warlocks. Supernatural beings running from their fate.
Plus, it's a series which means it will make your tummy grumble for more with a promise to fill your belly when the next book drops. Anticipation is the best part.
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Lovers of Paranormal, LoP**
Taking Back Sunday is one of those books that pull you in from the first chapter. The story line is quite intriguing. The way this story plays out is full of mystery, action and a little romance. The paranormal aspect of this book is also appealing. The characters are great. Sunday makes an awesome lead. And who wouldn't want a Cyrus? Great read. A great book to add to your tbr list. Recommended read. I look forward to following this series.
This is Ms. Rey's debut novel. Which, I also had the honor of beta reading for. I may be slightly biased because I feel like it's become like a "God Child" to me. I love it like it’s my own…obviously, it’s not. I just want to shine the light on it and watch it grow.
Of course, this has all the supernatural goodies my nerdy heart loves.
Sunday is an incarnate. What's that you say? Well, she is the vessel through which all power can channel. Yeah, all that power for one little person has to spell out- d i s a s t e r. Her system overloads and boom. That's exactly what a few people believe.
She's been kidnapped and brain-washed. She's lost part of her memory. Running from place to place...building life after life, only to leave again. Sunday is done with that. She's met friends and has built a life that she doesn't want to give up. She’s planted some roots. She just wants to be normal and damn it all to hell, she's going to try.
But can you be normal when you don't understand what you are? Can you do that when you have no memory of your past or who is chasing you? How can you turn a blind eye to the unanswered questions? Poor Girl.
All this fight to be normal and pretend she has no power is all for not. She must step up to proverbial circle and uncover where she feels the tainted magic coming from. Joining a Coven and using powers she knows will draw attention. She will risk it all to make sure her friends are not in danger. She’s so caught up in this mystery, she’s left herself wide open for attack. She forgot that she’s hunted.
Cyrus is a werewolf tracker sent to find Sunday. She's been elusive and quite resourceful. Cyrus has known Sunday for years and has been chasing her for a few more. He always seems to be one step behind. Cyrus is obsessed with the chase or is it the chase? Maybe it’s hate? He believes Sunday is a dangerous, evil person. He believes that capturing her and returning her to the people who hired him will keep everyone safe.
Really? Why are they the good guys? How does he know?
He doesn’t but he knows that there is something about Sunday. He never questioned the past or the reasons. Until now. Now, he second guesses…. Now, he feels a connection.
As things take a turn for evil, Cyrus and Sunday come to terms. They agree to work together to save some good people from a nasty demonic power. Bringing in some of the pack Cyrus follows Sunday’s lead and they track down the sinister entity. Because things don’t go as planned for anyone, Sunday is forced to put normal away and make decisions that don’t have a known outcome.
All I know is just when you think things are going one way it changes.
Sunday is a strong female lead that has to deal with a lot of the unknown. She’s been given a curse or is it a blessing? We don’t know which. The handsome bad boy werewolf is full of anger and misconceptions. We know Cyrus is entwined in her destiny but how? Her savior or her captor? With all these questions and a connection deepening, Sunday and Cyrus must find their way blind. It’s together or apart……
Their story is only beginning. I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next adventure…. “Trail of Dead” (Incarnate #2). I rate this one 4.5 stars….
Paranormal reads usually feature the same sorts of paranormal creatures or characters, over and over, and I am okay with that. But when I come across a book that features a character that is paranormal, but really different, I say bring it on!
Sunday has been on the run for years now. She knows if she lets her guard down, or stays in one place for any length of time, she could be found, and it won’t be good. In this world, Sunday is what is known as an Incarnate. From what I can tell, she’s the only one in the world, and is pretty much the scariest being of all that exists. There’s a bounty on her head, and other paranormal groups want her so they can control her power. The group that was picked to hunt her down is the Alaskan werewolf pack. Two wolves have been hunting her for years, when they finally get a recent lead on her. Both of the wolves that are hunting her actually kidnapped her when she was young, so they already know her. One of them in particular, Cyrus, has hated her for a long time. She, on the other hand, has no memory of him. Sunday might be the scariest being in the world, but all she wants is a normal life, with friends, and a permanent home.
I really loved the character of Sunday. She was so different, not only because she is one of a kind, but because she is someone that could care less about what she is, and only wants to be normal. She doesn’t want to be a monster, or a kick butt hero. She finally, for the first time in her life, has two good friends. And when she meets Cyrus, she thinks she just might be able to have a relationship. Cyrus is a werewolf and a hunter that has spent a good part of the last ten years wanting nothing more then to kill Sunday. When he meets her again, he realizes that he could never hate her, and he also realizes just how honorable he really is, when it comes to Sunday.
The premise of a character with so much power was fascinating to me, even if I never really understood exactly what she is. I know she has power over nature, and pretty much all creatures-human or not. Besides werewolves, this story also featured vampires, witches, a coven, and a warlock-which in this case is not a male witch. The world building was pretty well imagined as far as the different creatures, what their powers are, and what they look like in this authors world.
I enjoyed this read for the most part. There’s lots of action, deaths, scary situations, and romance. I hate to have to even mention this, but I think this book would benefit from another editing. My inner editor was on the job throughout, and it should be noted. However, it should also be noted that it took nothing away from the story for me. I got completely involved in the story, and it was a really fast read for me. I definitely plan to read the next in this series when it comes out. I recommend this to adult readers that enjoy urban fantasy and/or paranormal romance.(RabidReads.com)
I found this to be a fast-paced, suspenseful and romantic read that will appeal to fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romance alike. The plot contains a thrilling combination of powerful magic, passion, obsession and hidden agendas!
Sunday wants no part of being the Incarnate. She only has fractured memories of the past, but knows that it was full of violence at the hands of the witch Bernadette, who harnessed Sunday’s powers for her own ends, giving Sunday a heartless reputation. I enjoyed the pivotal scene where Sunday encounters the werewolf Cyus and the moment their instant mutual attraction rocks their respective worlds. Something about Cyrus compels Sunday’s memories to resurface and she realises that Cyrus has been deceiving her and cannot be trusted. I really felt for Sunday when it dawns on her that the ordinary life she has been living with her two friends this past year is over. Her identity as the Incarnate has been compromised and the powers she possesses, made even more unstable by the trauma of her memories resurfacing, threaten to explode and harm those around her.
I admired Sunday’s determination to keep her friends safe and destroy the evil that endangers them, whilst avoiding capture from Cyrus and his band of werewolves. This sets the scene for a thrilling tale not only involving Sunday, the Incarnate, with god-like powers, but werewolves, witches and other supernatural entities who struggle for power and dominance. Sunday puts herself at risk as she exposes her hidden talents and is eventually compelled to work with Cyrus and his band of werewolves who may betray her at any moment.
I loved the tortured characters of Sunday and Cyrus. The connection between them is instant and undeniable and the passion intense in some hot scenes. Cyrus is troubled by the role he played in Sunday’s capture as a teenager and his conflicted feelings towards her. He is torn between his desire to protect Sunday and loyalty to his pack who has tasked him to once again capture her and deliver her to those who would use Sunday for their own ends. Sunday is a powerful and tortured heroine. Her use and abuse by the witch Bernadette brought tears to my eyes and are a constant source of torment, as is the guilt that Sunday harbours over the tasks that Bernadette used Sunday and her powers to carry out. Sunday’s magic is strong and can reach earth shattering proportions and she assumes an almost mystical quality when the Incarnate within her rises to the surface. Even Cyrus, a powerful werewolf, is in awe of her at such moments.
The descriptions of magic performed by Sunday and other characters are powerful and intense and the author’s depictions of the rituals, spells and mystical paraphernalia make for an entertaining read. I recommend the book to readers of both urban fantasy and paranormal romance, who like tales of strong and passionate tortured heroes and heroines, with lots of conflict, suspense and adventure.
A copy of this book was provided for the purpose of a fair and honest review.
Book Worms was gifted this book from the Author for an honest review. We gave this book 5 stars. This is book one in the Incarnate Series. This review was left by Melissa a Book Worms Reviewer. Thank you Melissa.
Synopsis Sunday is on the run. Not from an ex or anything like that. She is on the run for her life. Sunday is the "Incarnate" and has a magic that makes her very special in the eyes of others. Especially those others that want to bring harm to her. All she wants to do is be normal and have a normal life. After seeing the power that is used by her former employer Bernadette, she is even more wanting to be normal. When she joins a seemingly non-threatening coven, she discovers just how threatening it can become.
For years, Cyrus has thought of nothing but capturing the Incarnate. He sleeps, breaths, and lives in all things of this magical creature. He's already taken her once and now he and his pack of werewolves need to involve themselves again. However, the circumstances have changed and he's not sure if he can take her back again.
My review...
For someone who doesn't really do paranormal anymore (was a huge fan for years)this was a great book. Sunday is a fantastic character, she is a non-whining (which anyone who has read my reviews before hates whining)woman who just wants to be left alone and nobody will let her. Finally giving into the long awaited friends she's wanted for years, she goes to a coven meeting only to find out someone is not who they say they are. I won't tell you, so don't ask.
Enter badass alpha werewolf Cyrus (swoon), he is yummy and finally getting the person who managed to walk away after he caught her the first time, he is filled with accomplishment. Or maybe he doesn't. There are twists and turns, bad blood, and oh so much drama between Cyrus and Sunday.
5 Stars!!!! The writing was great and found very very few mishaps throughout the book. Please read and even for non-paranormal fans this was a great read and I look forward to the next one.
Sunday is the Incarnate and because of this she has known no peace in her life. Abducted at a young age, she was tortured and her memory wiped in order to make her ready to serve a powerful witch who made her do some very bad things. But now Sunday is free and though she knows that she can never have a normal life, she is determined to claim whatever semblance to a normal life she can have!
Cyrus is a werewolf and it was he, who had abducted Sunday as a child. Haunted by her from the very first moment, he has always felt pulled towards the Incarnate and is now determined to find her and make her pay for all the painful emotions that only she can raise in him!
Taking Back Sunday hooked me right from the start. I felt connected and empathetic towards Sunday. Cristy created her world of the Incarnate, an evil and powerful witch and ruthless werewolves and vampires with ease. I was able to picture myself living in a world where all these mystical creatures are present and where we, humans, live blissfully unaware of their existence.
The characterization is good but I did feel confused while picturing Cyrus in my mind. His character is not clear and very erratic. Maybe it was the demand of the story but still I felt his character should have been mapped out a bit more clearly. Almost all characters in this book are grey and change sides from good to bad suited to the situations which was thrilling and also very refreshing.
The plot is new and refreshing. I liked the story as a whole but the ending did seem lacking finesse. Sunday and Cyrus' angle should have been smoothed out to an ending here and a platform for the next book made with some more thought.
The cover is not appealing and I think more work should have been done here to bring out a cover more suited to the story which gave an idea to the reader about the story at first glance.
I liked the author's style of writing and hope to read more of her work in the future.
All in all, an enjoyable read that I loved. This is a book that will appeal to all paranormal genre lovers and is a good leisure read. A 4 out of 5 to Taking Back Sunday.
I received an ARC of the book from the author and the tour organizers and I am very thankful to them. The above book is my honest and unbiased opinion and in noway influenced.
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the goodreads group Lovers of Paranormal, LoP*
I really enjoyed reading Taking Back Sunday. Sunday was a strong character. She was incredibly powerful but craved normalcy, a sense of belonging and people to care about/care about her. She alternates between fighting her fate as the Incarnate and accepting her role. She will do whatever it takes to protect those she cares about, even if it threatens her chance at happiness. She is not perfect. She sometimes makes bad choices, freezes instead of acting and has a tendency to avoid/literally run from her problems. She is a person in an impossible situation and is doing her best survive while still holding onto hope of living a normal, happy life. Cyrus quickly grew on me, and the other characters were interesting as well. This book had everything: witches, werewolves, vampires, explosions, car chases, book clubs... I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading the second in the series.
I received a copy from the author an exchange for a honest review. I found the book to be well written and interesting. I found it different then other paranormal books I have read which is good cause then it opens my world to new things. Sunday's character was interesting and very entertaining. I do look forward to seeing what book 2 will bring. I enjoy paranormal books so with the Witches and Werewolves what more could you ask for. I do recommend this book especially if your into paranormal books.
This is a debut novel by Cristy Moran. I was given this book to read and to write a review of my honest opinion as part of a book tour. The story line was very well written, bringing in a new magical being different than most of the Paranormal books I have been reading lately.
Taking Back Sunday is about an Incarnate named Sunday. What is and Incarnate, I can answer that I was lost on that one myself until I looked it up. Now had I read some other reviews I would have had a better understanding of the word. Not know what exactly it was had me confused and unable to understand the beginning of the story (wish I would have looked it up sooner myself) I kept thinking it was a witch that could pick up on everyone else’s pain (saw this on an episode of Charmed) But what an Incarnate actually is, is a conduit of mystical energy, meaning an Incarnate can pick up all the energies of people and elements that are surrounding her… which can make her very dangerous. Because of her power she is wanted by many that practice evil magic.
The story starts out in the present time, but then it has to take you back over a decade to understand more of where Sunday comes from and what she is about. At the age of 14 Sunday is taken by two men while living in Louisiana, she goes willingly knowing that it is her destiny. She is taken to Washington State where she is handed over to a witch by the name of Bernadette. She is knocked out, striped, blind folded, shackled and chained to a concrete bed. Here Bernadette and others chant Wiccan prayers over her and her memory of all she was about is taken from her. She is brainwashed into believing that Bernadette is her grandmother and is used by her for her incarnate ways. But this all ends up back firing on Bernadette and Sunday is able to escape and run.
Sunday has been running for the past five years but not knowing what she is running from, only that it is not safe for her to stay in one place very long and try to live a normal life. Present day Columbia S. Carolina Sunday has been living here now for over a year and has even made some friends that mean the world to her. She is also having dreams of the time she spent with Bernadette and some of her memories are coming back, but she still does not really know who she is, where she is from or even if she has family somewhere. Her two friends Sammy and Kayla are in a coven and have been trying to get Sunday to join them. Finally she caves and agrees to attend a gathering with them.
Cyrus the wolf that originally captured Sunday and took her to Bernadette is again on the hunt for her only now to deliver her to the Pastophori of Iset. He has been one step behind her for the past four years and is now in the same town as her. Cyrus has carried an angry desire to kill her all these years, but when he comes face to face with her he gets a completely different feeling about her. The wolf in him sees that she is his mate. This throws a wrench in the capture and deliver plan! They run into one another in a bar and he touches her, that is when he knows she is destine to be his mate and she feels something for him but does not know what it is exactly. And she does not even recognize him, but the instant they touch her incarnate senses pick up on something and it knocks her for a loop! She has held her incarnate powers behind a wall she has built up.
Things with her friend’s coven are not what everyone thinks… there is a witch among them that is into black magic and Sunday senses it. This puts Sunday on a mission to find out who it is and what she wants. Cyrus and some of his pack end up helping Sunday. There are a lot of twists and turns in the remainder of the story, but true to my review system I am going to leave you here and hope that you will want to know everything there is to know about Taking Back Sunday. This is a great story and I myself look forward to book two so I can find out what else happens Happy Reading!

Okay so I was expecting this to be pretty decent but it really turned out to be fantabulous! I was engrossed in this read from start to finish and I CANNOT wait to get my hands on the next book in the Incarnate Series!!
The Plot - A very well thought out plan unfolded at a steady pace and just when you thought it was going to be all gushy with instalove it was just not. The amount of action and depth to the plot struck me as Christopher Pike level writing! I am super excited to have found this series and Cristy Rey too! From start to finish it was storyline perfection and it never felt rushed or slowed.
The Cast of Characters -
Characters are everything to a story and determine whether or not you want to read an entire series.
The MC, Sunday, is a strong female lead and when she goes into Incarnate mode I was enthralled loving every scary second. I think she was well written plus she contained the strength, depth and vulnerability you could hope for. She was shamelessly throwing herself in harms way yet demanding that things be done in her way. She was pretty bad ass!
Cyrus is all rough and tumble, steady searching for Sunday but when their worlds collide no one gets what they bargained for. I like how the hungrily brooding wolf in him easily expresses his distaste for the Incarnate. I also love the twists and turns their characters took in their interactions. Very good story there!
Things rapidly change and turn to crap as Sunday narrows her sights on making sure the only friends she has ever had stay safe from the preternatural world's implosion looming around the naive witches. I love that she is determined to keep them safe before doing what she knows is best and yanking her shallow roots from South Carolina, making a break again.
I love the strength in Sunday's decisions and hate it at the same time! A great ending leaving me hungry for more!
Scenery - I loved the scenery and the palpable nature that memories took on by just the descriptiveness. It wasn't over done or harped on but it kept you intrigued and going along with the story with ease.
Summary - Over all I can't give this story any less than five stars. I really enjoyed the read, there was plenty of action and swoonidge to keep me going. It has werewolves, witches, demons, and the Incarnate. All in all a great Paranormal read that I recommend highly!
This was a enjoyable book. The pace was just right and you slowly get explanations to all that is happening so that you are not in confusion mode. Sunday I think is a strong woman even if she doesn’t believe in herself and her strength. She has kindness and the only ugliness is because of her past and what was done to her. When she transforms the ugliness does come out but I believe that is because of the power and who taught her not because of who she is. I believe that who she is helps her to keep from going over the edge. Her love for Cyrus is obvious but her fight to keep it at bay is sad. He wants her and even though she feels it is partly obligation I believe that when you love there is obligation to the other for they hold your heart in their hands and you want to do everything to make them happy and safe so obligation does come with love. What Sunday realizes about Cyrus is that he is a man who feels immensely and will do what he has to to protect her. Even if she doesn’t feel she needs it. Cyrus knows what is out there waiting for her and he knows he may be the only one who can keep her from being found. Cyrus begins this adventure by hating Sunday or so he thought. There is a fine line between love and hate and those two always mix together and blur lines. As he finally finds her, he realizes that hate doesn’t fuel him but love for her does. A ever consuming the only reason I wake type of love. She resists him and even uses it against him but he doesn’t care for he just wants her. He is misguided in his past and harbours guilt but overall is a nice sweet werewolf who believes in right and wrong. To prove his loyalty and get Sunday to trust he and his brethren help her uncover evil masked in doe eyed sweet innocence. they help her stop a terrible unleashing from occurring but it comes with a price. The price is one I hate to see and I hope that eventually fate will bring about happiness and joy for Cyrus and Sunday although I get the feeling Cyrus loves the hunt for Sunday as much as he loves her. A book about trust and love. Finding your soul mate and letting that love guide you to do what is needed to protect and keep them safe. One of stopping evil even if it means teaming up with those you distrust. About acceptance of fate and who you are. A nice paced interesting book that will have you rooting for that bearded wolf Cyrus to get his happy ever after and keep Sunday safe from the Prophesit.
I had the honor and privilege of beta reading Taking Back Sunday. As soon as I started reading, I was done for! This wasn’t just any story either. This is a story about a girl that lost her past and had no hope of a normal future.
Sunday is a kick a$$ female character. She knows nothing of where she came from. She knows what she has left behind. She knows she can’t stay in any place too long and she definitely can’t make friends and lay down roots. It’s not safe for anyone. She has to keep moving, surely she'll feel comfortable, if for a short time, somewhere!
The friends she has made convinced her to meet their coven, she is very skeptical. She is the most powerful there is and she has to do what she can to keep herself reigned in at all times. So what happens when she figures out that one of the ladies in the coven isn’t there for anything good? Sunday knows she will protect her friends at all cost. But, Sunday has gained a few new enemies. Poor girl has more going on than one person can handle but, that doesn’t stop her from trying.
Cyrus. OHMYGAWD Cyrus! He has been tracking Sunday for so long and he is beyond angry that it’s taken him this long to find her. She has ruined his life and his hunt for her has taken him away from home for far too long. She is a danger to herself, to anyone around her and in his opinion that includes the city where she lives. But that ends now. The hunt is over and he can finally take care of business. Except what he finds is not what he’s expecting. AT ALL.
I’m going to stop here. If I keep going I will either give something away or just end up telling you the whole story. I can’t begin to tell you how well this story is written. Every line, every conversation just flowed. Cristy, with her words, put me in the story. I was in the club when Sunday met Cyrus and I was sitting in Sunday’s apartment, watching them interact. It all played out like a movie and it’s one that would watch over and over! I am very much looking forward to Trail of Dead (Incarnate #2). 4.5/5
I was provided a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.
I just finish reading this book, and I do love me a really good book, that have to do with witches and wolves, and this book I love it, love the characters, I love the twists and turns, bad blood and the drama that this book have, I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away.
The story begging with Sundays, Sunday have being on the run from her old life for years, all she ever wanted was a normal life, normal friend, things that don't have to do with witches, since she is a Incarnate, that's a conduit of mystical energy, transcendent of the mundane and the divine, now for the last five years she being living in Columbia South Carolina, she has being find, that's until her two best friend ask her to join their coven, Sunday decide to go for it, but what she was not expected was for that meeting to turn her world up side down, and how crazy everything will turn out to be.
Then come MR. badass alpha werewolf Cyrus, and let me just say that his a hottie, the last four years Cyrus has being the point man on the contract, to recapture Sunday and deliver her to the Pastophori of Iset, but once he see her his world also is being turn up side down. Would Sunday and Cyrus be able to work together, or will Cyrus turn her in.
I really love and enjoy reading this book, and love the drama that is going on between Cyrus and Sunday, this book had me seating on the edge of my bed, wondering what would happen next, now I cant wait to read the following book. Author Cristy Rey THANK YOU for introducing me to this amazing characters and this awesome book love it.
Taking Back Sunday is a book I enjoyed reading, and incorporated urban fantasy, suspense, and a bit of mystery thrown in as well as some romance. The main female character is named Sunday, which I thought was really unique in its own right. As far as what Sunday is, in the book it was described as a conduit of powers – arcane and mundane – the Incarnate. The book also includes witches, vampires, and werewolves. The concept was also intriguing, and by chapter four, I was drawn into the story and grew to care about Sunday as a character.
I think what contributed to Sunday being sympathetic was her desire to simply live a normal life, but she was forced to run from city to city without being able to settle down into a stable environment because of who and what she is and the powers she possesses that she doesn't really want. Despite that, she's not afraid to use her abilities when it's necessary, which made an interesting dichotomy.
For the past several years, she had been trailed by a team of werewolves from Alaska – Cyrus and Angel. Their paths finally cross in Columbia, South Carolina. Their meeting was nothing like the other was expecting, with Cyrus developing feelings for Sunday, and it was interesting to see Cyrus' shift of perspective. He also gives in and helps her with a mystery in town involving another witch.
Overall, I really enjoyed this first book in a series, and I'm interested in continuing the series to find out what will happen to Sunday and Cyrus and the other characters as well. My rating is 4/5 platypires.
I had to grinz at a witch named Sunday... she is tired of being used... she is tired of being a witch.. she wants what is normal.. (if anyone has a definition of that word let me know) Sunday has been on the run for a while now, this last year as allowed her to settle down and forget even if for a little while. As Ive said before... you can think to run from your destiny, but when you have fate dipping their spoons in the pot one can never really tell what will happen. Your heart cant help but go out to Sunday, it seems she just cant catch a break... she is powerful but has yet been able to control her power. Sunday has a past that she cant remember... why? The parts she does remember horifies her. Fate.. yeah remember her.. grinz .. decides to drop Cyrus into Sundays life.. he is a sexy wolf type hunter on a mission, which is Sunday... Taking her back to some crazy group... or will his feelings be tested.. will he have to make a choice between what he supposed to do and what he wants to do. Even though Sunday has been on the move, Cyrus with his excellent hunting skills wont have a problem finding her. I liked the book, it was long and a lot of detail. I think its a on going war at what is the perfect length of a book. Its just enough lovey dubby stuff, mixed with adventure and a bit of wth factor. I dont like that I dont have the second book at hand.. (sad panda)... soo go grab it and your fav drink and Enjoy.
I was offered the chance to review this book for an honest review.
Taking Back Sunday is well written & organized. The story is filled with mystery, lust and complex characters. We get different character views as we read on. I enjoyed getting to see the story unfold from two different characters who share a deep connection. If you like that kind of story telling you’re in luck with this book.
Sunday is a young adult, woman on the run. I identified a lot with her story. Sometimes we want to run from who we are & escape our pasts. I have learned however, that causes more issues. What does Sunday learn? (that you’ll have to read to find out) I did not put the book down until I finished the entire story.
Christy was able to bring life to her fictional characters. I also rather liked the supernatural element to it. I was not sure what I was getting into when I began reading but Christy’s way with words kept me interested. I could tell there was a great story awaiting me and I’m glad I continued reading.
The interactions of characters and mini stories were, well placed. I liked that the story had branches to it rather than be focused only on the main agenda. The flash backs were written very nicely, and it was great to learn the back-story through more of an emotional place. I am very excited to reading the sequel to see where things venture off too. I will be keeping an eye out to read it!
From the very first chapter I was hooked to this book! Surprising, fun, and so different from the other paranormal books that I've read. Cristy Rey does an excellent job with bringing the characters to life and portraying the scenes with such finesse and details, it makes the book feel "real".
The story starts off with Sunday, a witch on the run. She has amazing and kick ass mutha-effin powers and is the Incarnate. She's kept herself hidden away for years and somehow ends up diving right back into the world of magic; with the help of her besties. Filled with suspense, drama, and hard hitting action; this book has it all! Then there is Cyrus, the werewolf that is sent to hunt down Sunday and bring her back to the Coven. Wheewwww!! Cyrus is hot, hot, hot! I loved him so much. Tortured soul with always wanting to do the right thing and make up for his past mistakes.
The instant and undeniable attraction between Sunday and Cyrus melted my heart. I felt for them both and I admired the fact that they both had their priorities; to save their friends, their family, and each other. The writing was on point and very descriptive; at some points I felt I was watching a movie. When all else fails, who do you turn to?
Overall, this was a fantastic read and as a HUGE paranormal fan, I am definitely going to recommend this book to all of my friends! Amazing debut and I can't wait for more!
5 out of 5 I had the pleasure of meeting the author of Taking Back Sunday at the GA Indie Author Event last month. Cristy Rey is a total book nerd and I love her for it! I would have gladly sat and talked with her all day. Normally I am not one to gravitate towards New Adult, but Taking Back Sunday is paranormal and that trumps New Adult in my book. So I took a chance that the cool author I met would also give me a cool book. And what an awesome concept and storyline! Taking Back Sunday trumps a lot of books I have read this year. Fantastic pacing, likeable characters and a well thought out back story. There is also palpable chemistry and beautiful imagery in this gem by Cristy Rey and I am now a junkie in need of a fix because the next book in the Incarnate series doesn’t come out until September. But I am coming to see that the wait is worth it when you get a book that is not just a good story. It’s edited, formatted and polished. I will gladly wait for quality versus their unpolished counterparts that seem to be more about quantity. Well done, Cristy Rey. Oh, and while I am jonesing for my fix, I will be reading the prequel novelette, Edge of Seventeen, that is offered free on multiple platforms. It’s a short look at events that occur before the events in Taking Back Sunday.
What could be more interesting than a witch that can obliterate everything with just a thought...or maybe just by be-spelling you, have you take your clothes off and tell her all of your truths just so that she will touch you. OH right, having that witch be hunted by werewolves with the intent on taking her back to another coven cause she is the 'incarnate' and a sought after weapon! Only the werewolf Cyrus finds out that all that hate he has been holding in while searching for the escaped Sunday for years might be a little more that just hate. (cyrus btw sounds so damn hot...shew!) I got caught up in their story but it is SO much more than just their story. Sunday tries to stay away from witchcraft only to be dragged into a coven after running and hiding for years from anyone that can sense who she really is. She then finds herself eye to eye with Cyrus and then that's when the whole can of worms gets opened! This story moves right along from one event to the next and at the end you are left wanting to start the next book. It's not a cliffy people, it ends the events but....you are ready for the next story to begin. This gets a four star from me only cause poor Cyrus he never gets the chance to be oh so naughty!! Will be reading the next in this series for sure!!
So I LOVED this book! Sunday has been running from her past. An evil witch Bernadette kidnapps her to use her as the incarnate(god like powerful). When she finally comes to and realizes what she has been made to do. Now 5 years later the past has come back. Cyrus and his pack mate have been searching for Sunday for 2 years and now they finally found her. But all the hate Cyrus has been feeling for her disappears when he sees her. Now everything is spiraling out of control.
So this was such an amazing book. It has been awhile since I have found a book that has kept me so intrigued. It was so well written and it kept you entrapped until the end. The story jumps back in time a lot and switches from POV. The thing that I loved was that it let you know what was going on. Not to much at one time but enough that you want to keep reading. Not only is there the main story between Sunday and Cyrus, but there is a side mystery that they have to solve to save the only people Sunday has cared for.
I could go on but you should read it. It is the first in a new series that yo need to read! I am so excited for the next book!! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sunday has been on the run for many years, never setting down roots in any place. Finally she's slowed down enough to make two good friends. Her friends have been trying to get her to join their coven, because she needs the support. When she finally gives in and goes with them she senses an evil presence in the coven, unknown to the other members. Cyrus has been hunting the incarnate for the last several years. He wants to just find her, and take her back to the cult that hired him to find and deliver her to them. But when Cyrus finally sees Sunday after searching for her for so long something between them changes, now he wants nothing except her. The chemistry between Sunday and Cyrus is great. They both know what they feel, and how it's something special, but they fight with what they are and what they need to do. I loved the twists and turns and figuring out Sunday's past and how it ties in with everything that is going on now AND the current threat to Sunday's best friends (and how it all connects.) It seems like it would almost be too much, but somehow it doesn't feel that way because of how seamlessly it's all blended together. I think I found a new author to stalk! I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next in the series to come out.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lop or Lovers of Paranormal).
"Taking Back Sunday" is everything I’ve been looking for lately in an Urban Fantasy novel. I’m a big fan of the genre (but still picky) and Cristy Rey does a great job weaving a suspenseful story with a super hot romantic thread.
Sunday is the Incarnate and she’s been on the run for years, no longer able to make personal connections or put down roots in one place for a meaningful amount of time. Cyrus’s mission is to capture her and deliver her to the Pastophori of Iset without thinking twice about it. But when they meet it’s explosive and Cyrus begins to have doubts about his plans regardless of what the rest of his pack wants to do. When Sunday gets suspicious of the members of her friends’ coven, the race begins to solve a murder and find out who else has their sights on harnessing the Incarnate’s limitless power for their own purposes.
Sunday is a strong character: sharp, witty, and looks to herself to solve problems. The chemistry and tension between her and Cyrus kept me wanting more. Great read!
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
First off, let me say that Taking Back Sunday is well written and edited, which is a lot more than can be said for many independently published books. Having said that, however, for me, the characters were somewhat flat and I think the reason for this is that most of the time, the reader is told what the characters are thinking and doing rather than allowing the characters to speak or act for themselves. The story would have benefited greatly from more dialogue between the various people rather than just providing descriptions of the action. In my opinion, interaction between the characters is what allows a reader to become acquainted with them. I think there is far too much time spent describing what Sunday or Cyrus were thinking or doing, rather than allowing the reader to get to know them through their interactions with others. I hope that any sequels will give us more of an opportunity to get to know these characters through their own words, and perhaps allow us to discover for ourselves what actually makes them tick.
Taking Back Sunday is an amazing start to an amazing series. This is paranormal with a little spin. Sunday is the Incarnate. She holds incredible power that is extremely hard to handle and control. She was kidnapped by Cyrus, a werewolf and turned over to a power hungry witch. Once Sunday was able to escape she did, but left tragedy in her wake. She continues on the run for a few years and about the time she thinks she can maybe start to live a normal life she finds a warlock trying to use her friends. In the meantime, Cyrus is still looking for her and finds her. He and his pack end up helping her. They uncover many other supernatural things going on. Sunday is forced to do things that she has been running from but fate keeps finding her. She learns a lot about friendship and love and loss. She has some hard decisions to make but feels they are the right ones. Don't be fooled, there is a twist at the end that will keep you wanting more. Taking Back Sunday didn't happen but there so much more to this story. Witches, werewolves, vampires...what more could you ask for? An amazing read! Cristy Rey did a superb job! Can't wait to continue the story!
This books has it all, werewolves, witches, and warlocks. I love supernatural books and this book didn’t disappoint. I started to read this book and I was not able to set it down. The storyline drew me in on page one. Sunday is and Incarnate, which means she can channel a lot of power. She was kidnaped and now she goes from place to place trying to hide. She did lose some of her memory. Sunday is a great strong female role and I really love her and her character. Then there is Cyrus who is a werewolf who is tracking her. He has been looking for her for years. But he always seems to miss her. He thinks Sunday is one of the bad people, which she isn’t. I really love Cyrus as well. This book was very exciting and I was on the edge of my seat. I love all the supernatural beings that were in this book. I think it was a fresh new concept in the supernatural book world. Cristy is a brilliant author and I really am glad I got to read this book. If you are into supernatural books I recommend this one. You won’t regret it.
I would like to thank Everything Marie Tours and Cristy Moran for send me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
When we first meet Sunday she is living a seemingly normal life, that is until her friend convince her to go along to their covan, little knowing that Sunday has a massive secret she is the Incarnate. Having been in the run for years she is trying to be normal with friends.
As her life begins to unravel around her she bumps in to the hot sexy werewolf Cyrus, little knowing that he is looking for her, sparks fly as they get to know each other.
The book for me was a slow build to a terrific ending, but I suppose that is because this is the first in the series. I would of liked a little more back ground to Sunday and Cyrus, each are easily likeable main characters.
If you like books with witches, werewolves and vampires I would tell you to read this has it has all 3.
A good start to what feels like it is going to be a different, but interesting series of books.
When it was described to me as "paranormal romance" I cringed. I immediately thought "Twilight". I actually hesitated reading this. I stayed up several nights in a row beta-reading other titles by Cristy. I loved them. LOVED. Gushing emails at 2am to her about my love. Then this one was sitting in my inbox. Waiting. One Sunday (hah!) afternoon I said "Erin, read this already" and I feel so stupid for being so reluctant. Sunday is one of those characters that is so beautifully written. She's strong, vulnerable, relatable and a witch(!) Cyrus is every girls dream boat. I am so on board with this story that I cannot wait to see where they end up. Cristy Rey's debut could not have been stronger. Sunday is her stand our Austen-esque heroine and I'm so thrilled to continue to be apart of her journey.
I love paranormal romance books, so along with the fact that the author, Cristy Moran, is a clever and witty writer made this book a must read for me. I was lucky to be a part of this book as a support system, beta-reader, and a friend.
Sunday and Cyrus have an angst ridden, tumultuous relationship that really draws you into the book. With a relationship base of great dislike their connection grows into something more. To Cyrus, who is a tracker werewolf, his mission to re-find Sunday becomes more than a mission or a paycheck, it becomes a great need to find the one witch that is always eluding him.
If you like paranormal books with werewolves, witches, and a touch of vampires all rolled into a book of awesomeness, do yourself a favor and buy this book! Even if paranormal is not you thing, you will find yourself sucked into this book.
