We don’t know who’s taking out the horses, but I know who’s stealing my heart.
Everyone in Redwood adores my boss, Dr. Adrian Hartman. I don’t. He’s arrogant, stern, and too attractive for his own good. Every attempt to befriend him fails. Until a series of suspicious racehorse deaths forces us to team up. In our search for the perpetrator, we form a truce. And that truce lands me in his bed. But I can't risk my heart. My time in Redwood won't last, and our scars are too deep. But I can’t worry about that now...
Because the horse killer gets braver and the danger grows. With lives at risk, Adrian and I must face our fears and fight for the truth…Even if it means putting everything on the line, including our chance at love. Author's A standalone romantic suspense that balances heart-pounding tension with witty banter and humor. No cheating. HEA guaranteed. Expect a rollercoaster of emotions seasoned with laugh-out-loud moments. Contains explicit content. Recommended for 21+.
I must be in the minority with this book, but I have to be sincere with my thoughts and reading experience. I'm on the fence with this one. This is a short read, about 10 chapters or so, and I understand things have to move a little faster than usual. Which is fine. However, for me, the pacing felt, uneven. Josie is a vet intern who has an attraction to the eye candy that is Dr Adrian Hartman. Everyone is crushing on the man. Could he feel the same? Adrian treats her with indifference. Mixed signals. Their banter was... choppy. They tolerate each other not actually knowing how the other person feels. I wanted more of that. Let me get to know their personalities a bit more. But again, it's a short read.
He's the grumpy one, only slightly, but there are painful reasons for it. I will not reveal that here. She's kind of upbeat but not overly. She also has scars of her own and a hurtful past. A huge horse race is about to happen. However, there is something nefarious happening to the prized horses of Redwood. The horses are being poisoned. As a person who loves animals that was hard to read.😥 Which then brings these two to investigate and getting involved by chapter 3. I felt their relationship was underdeveloped but rushed to... love.🤷🏻 And why weren't the authorities involved before the ending? Small town, yes, but the law is still the law. And these two are questioning everyone which would jeopardize any case. There are more twists but I won't give it away. HEA. Sure. I like Martin the hedgehog. Shout out to him.🦔 The book cover is nice. If you want to check it out, maybe it will be your cup of tea. This review is my honest takeaway. I wanted more. Like the Magic Island series. Happy reading.❤️🤎❤️
🐎🐎🏁Thank you to Ms Hunter and Bookfunnel for an early book. I'm voluntarily leaving my review.🏁🐎🐎
I am a huge fan of all of Summer Hunter's books so far and this one is no different, in that respect. This does however have a different type of setting than what I've read so far from her as her previous collection of stories focused on the Hawaiian Islands. This western/cowboy-type story is very well done! The title is perfect and will all be made clear as you read along. Adrian is a veterinarian and fairly new to this small town. Josie grew up here and after a riding injury, her professional days ended and she had to find a new path. While it's pretty easily understood that there's some attraction and sexual tension between Adrian and Josie, they can't seem to get on the same page for quite a while and clash in nearly every interaction. This leaves them both confused and frustrated, neither releasing their stubbornness to explore why they are clashing...which basically boils down to their lack of communication and unwillingness, to be honest with themselves and open their minds until a mystery needs to be solved. They realize they make a good team and can each contribute to finding who's killing these competition horses. The suspense, romance, friendships, and mystery are well-delivered and create a very entertaining story. This is a quick read and easily read in one sitting.

A lovely short read slow-build romance, with developing chemistry between the characters, action, drama, suspense, mystery, misunderstanding, light humour, spice and some great twists.
Josie is a vet intern who gets on really well with one of the vets she works with, but she finds the newer vet, Dr Adrian Hartman, treats her with indifference. She had been a jockey champion but after an accident had to give it up and moved back to her small town. When she notices one of the horses falling ill though she ends up having to work closely with Adrian to stop more horses being poisoned with the town's annual horse races coming up.
Adrian has a past he doesn't talk about but a love for the horses he looks after. When the town's best racing horses all start dying, he wants to solve the mystery but can't get Josie to stay away so lets her work with him. As they spend more time together they realise they can use their skills and connections to find the culprit; while they also grow closer. But can they stop the deaths before it's too late and will they go back to how
I really enjoyed this read with the light humor running throughout. The chemistry between the characters was great, not just Adrian but the love and support Lou, Billy and Old Dennis have for Josie as well. I also really liked Martin 🦔.

In and of itself, I liked the plot of this short smalltown romantic suspense, but it was too fast-paced in places and not elaborated enough. The tropes are enemies to lovers, grumpy-sunshine, opposites attract, workplace romance and troubled hero, mixed with crimes against racehorses, drama in the past, lots of verbal sparring and some steamy love scenes. In my opinion the relationship between the two likable protagonists develops too rapidly after endless arguments and the way the crimes are solved was too smooth for me, even if there was an unpredictable twist.
Since her severe riding accident, Josie Stewart is no longer able to work as a jockey. That’s why she returned to her home town, where she now has a job as an intern in a vet practice. The job would be perfect if it weren't for the new vet, Dr. Adrian Hartman, who is loved by all and gets along with everyone but Josie. But when one racehorse after another, who are due to take part in the upcoming local race, suddenly die under mysterious circumstances, they decide to work together despite the animosity between them to prevent further deaths...
If you like entertaining and quick reads with lots of banter and bickering, some sad moments, a touch of suspense and spice, this book is for you.
I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.
If you are one who loves small town mystery, romance, short story, this story is for you. As you open to read page 1 you will meet Josie a vet intern after an injury ended her career as a horse jockey. You will meet vet Dr. Adrian Hartman, (talk of the small town and the dreams of many women) who appears grumpy and doesn't like Josie, well she thinks that at least.
There's an attraction there, however Josie and Adrian can't seem to be on the same page, rude, standoffish, to each other, until 1 day one of the towns champion horses die, they were getting ready for the competition, then another and another die. Josie and Dr Hartman team up , well he had no choice, to get evidence of who is doing this and how.
A case of who did it, and why. Very entertaining read with all the mystery, friendships and love.
The culprit will surprise you! Got to read to find out.

This was Aiden and Josie’s story. Everyone in Redwood adores her boss, Dr. Adrian Hartman. She doesn’t. He’s arrogant, stern, and too attractive for his own good. Every attempt to befriend him fails. Until a series of suspicious racehorse deaths forces them to team up. In their search for the perpetrator, they form a truce. Her time in Redwood won't last, and their scars are too deep. But she doesn’t have time to worry about that anymore. Because the horse killer gets braver and the danger grows. With lives at risk, Adrian and I must face our fears and fight for the truth…Even if it means putting everything on the line, including our chance at love. It was an intriguing and suspenseful read. And voluntarily leaving this review.

Someone is poisoning race horses and it’s up to town vet, Dr Aiden, and intern, Josie, to figure out who.
This is a great book of “who done it”. The tension between the two characters is palpable from page 1. But slowly as they work together Josie and Aiden start to warm up to each other and sharing their darkest secrets to each other. But will they be able to put their differences completely to the side to figure out who is killing the horses?
This was a fast-paced read that sucks you in from the beginning with no feeling of missing information or details.

What a wonderful story, you are taken along in the lives of Adrian and Josie. Both have a passion for animals and that is what they have in common besides the fact that he is her boss. They clash about everything and they sometimes say that people who can bicker like that actually have feelings for each other. But they put everything aside to find out who is after the horses. All the passion and fire they used towards each other with the bickering they now put to find out the truth about the death of a horse. A must read, it is worth it.

This is a story about Josie, an ex jockey and Adrian, a new to town vet. Josie had an accident while riding a horse and now cannot ride. She is working as a vet assistant in her small hometown of Redwood. The new to town Vet is not the nicest to her. They grow closer as horses keep dying. There is some intrigue and suspense as they try to solve the crimes. They definitely have chemistry. I liked both characters. They worked well together to solve the mystery of who was killing the horses. There is an happy ending and a few surprises thrown in. Overall, I enjoyed the story. However, I did not care for the explicit wording of the sex scenes.
The author has written a tragic novel that draws us into the lives of Josie and Adrian. When horses start dying throughout town, Josie and Adrian set out to figure out why, despite the fact that they aren't even friends. Adrian and Josie's relationship begins coldly as he tries to keep his distance from her. They compliment and support one another. Perfect. The plot keeps us turning the pages with tension, connection, secrets, and steam.

Josie works with Aiden and another vet and the vet clinic. Sparks fly between Josie and Adrian each time they're together. While they are working together to figure out what is happening with racehorses they grow close. Its not long before things are heating up between them. Will they figure out who is behind the horses dying? Will this to something more between them?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
Small town mystery intertwined with romance where the characters are scarred from their past intensified my interest in this book. What is happening with the horses? Josie and Adrian are forced to find out even if it puts them in danger. This was an exciting and emotional read that was short and a little steamy.

My heart just went out to Adrian and Josie in that book. Poor Josie really had her dreams crushed and Adrian is SO grumpy. These two really don’t mesh well to begin with but with Josie thinking that someone is sabotaging her horses, can he win her heart and also keep them both safe? This book was excellently done with a lot of action packed to the hilt of its pages. Thanks for a fun read.

This is an addicting, intriguing and interesting small town romance about enemies who become so much more. The story is a fairly short and quick read about Josie and Adrian. When horses are dying in their town they must work together to find the truth. This is such a good read that develops very nicely. I love the characters, suspense and plot.
I'd give this 2.5 🌟 It wasn't a bad book, it was just a simple quick read that was a fast burn as the two main characters went from "enemies" to lovers in just a few chapters (if that) and then were saying "I love you" after a week of being together. The 🌶 was decent, though. If you want a quick read, then give this a try.
This was such a sweet little story; it managed to stay just the right side of being too saccharine. I felt for those owners who lost their horses - that was the only downer with this but I know that it was needed as a dramatic counterpoint. That aside, there was a real feel-good factor that was very welcome.
Loved reading the amazing and awesome romance story. Josie loves her job working for Dr. Collins but not the handsome vet, Dr. Adrian Hartman. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting story by the fabulous author, Summer Hunter.
This is a real page turner of a romance read that I couldn't stop reading once I started. It has a way a grabbing a hold of you due to the suspense and heat between Josie and Adrian that starts off with some resistance and ends up with them between the bedsheets.
Allow a long afternoon for this steamy laugh-out-loud action-packed contemporary small-town enemies-to-lovers romantic suspense murder mystery novella in Redwood as they prepare for the Diamond Hoof races.

This was a quick read but it had so much to offer. Romance, mystery and a cute little hedgehog. Josie and Adrian compliment each other well and are very cute together.
