Kill Switch – book 14 in the outstanding Tom Rollins action thriller series. Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Jason Kasper and David Archer.
Tom Rollins is still trying to stay away from trouble. That is easier said than done. Kill Switch by Paul Heatley is the 14th adventure with Rollins and it's an action filled story from cover to cover. This time it has some new technology like AI and doctored film footage. Will Tom and his friend make it? Well the book is in stores around the end of September and then you can check it out for yourself, I recommend that you do. I send some thanks to Inkubator Books and Netgalley for letting me read this advance copy.
Exactly what I expected from a book called ‘“Kill Switch” (….embarrassingly I thought the book was called ‘Kill Shot’ while reading it whoops).
Also, nothing like jumping into a book series on book 14!
Anywayyyy:
- pretty disastrous flirting for the first 20 pages - also, why is the female love interest always a cop in these books?? - great action for the rest of the book (a genuine “high-paced-environment”) - very fun baddie, along with some notable evil henchmen - can’t wait for book 15!
This was yet another book that I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from the author (Paul Heatley), his publisher (Inkubator Books), and the fine folks at Booksprout in return for providing a review. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the fourteenth book in the series. Thus far, I have been fortunate enough to have been able to provide a review for three of the series. While this novel works fine as a standalone read, I would recommend reading all the earlier ones.
Tom Rollins is a quiet and unassuming man, however, it is in times of distress that the adage of "never judging a book by its cover" bears fruit. Tom Rollins is a trained and skilled individual who had gone AWOL from a CIA "black-ops" unit and was previously forced to utilize his unique set of skills to avenge the murder of a woman that he loved. After each adventure, Rollins attempts to continue to live off the grid as he makes his way across the country.
In this latest tale by Paul Heatley, our protagonist finds himself amid the hills of San Francisco where he has been targeted by a criminally discharged group of former military veterans.
These antagonists, led by their leader Orlando, are on a mission of their own for a US Senator in an attempt to assassinate another US Senator. For their mission to succeed, they needed to provide a fall guy to take the blame for the assassination of the second US Senator. In their haste, they decided to target quiet and unassuming Tom Rollins in an attempt to shift the blame on a transient and disgruntled military veteran. This group of mercenaries soon discovers that they have picked the wrong man.
Former black ops specialist Tom Rollins is working as a short-order cook in San Francisco and living the quiet life. Or at least trying to, as unfortunately for a man like Rollins trouble is never far away.
While working the night shift in a greasy spoon, where he has drawn some recognition for his skillset in deterring late-night robberies, a local female cop (by the name of Nina Perry) has caught the romantic eye of Mr. Rollins.
In the course of this story, Tom has just spent the night with local cop Nina Perry when the two of them are snatched at gunpoint and bundled into the back of a van.
The motive for this seemingly random kidnapping soon becomes clear – terrorists blow up a federal building and Tom and Nina are being framed for the attack.
After a daring escape, Tom and Nina go on the run, pursued by a mercenarious black ops team and a gang of crooked cops who have a current grudge against Nina, as they are hunted down after being blamed for a catastrophic bombing they had nothing to do with.
With an entire city on his back, including the eyes of the local police force on them (thanks to some creative editing of CCTV video) target Tom and Nina as the focus point of an intense manhunt after a series of explosions occur in San Francisco. Can Tom clear his name? Will he be able to find the real bombers and take them down?
It’s the longest day of Tom Rollins’ life. And it’s only just begun.
Kill Switch – book fourteen in the outstanding Tom Rollins action thriller series - is a fast read and provides an edge-of-your-seat storyline that would easily be enjoyed by fans of the crime thriller genre. After reading this fast-paced novel, I would easily give four stars out of a potential five stars and believe that this series would be perfect for fans of Lee Child, Jason Kasper, and David Archer.
As with all my literary ramblings, these are just my five cents worth.
I received an ARC through "Booksprout" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Tom is now in San Francisco working as a short order cook. One night an event happens at Sam's, the place Tom works, where someone attempts to rob it and Tom prevents it. The police arrive and Tom mentions to Nina, one of the cops, that he takes coffee every morning after his shift ends. Nina meets up with Tom there and they become acquainted. Later they week Tom and Nina are leaving the restaurant after having breakfast when they are kidnapped. They are brought to a warehouse and put in a cell. Luckily Tom is able to cause the person guarding them to get close enough to their cell where Tom overpowers him and they are able to get free.
They then go into the area where the rest of the kidnappers are at and a gun fight erupts. The kidnappers escape and when Tom and Nina start questioning their captive, they discover that bombs are in the building, with that discovery they flee. They just mange getting out as the bomb is detonated. They later learn that another bomb has gone off at the Federal building and a film released identify both Tom and Nina as the bombers and everyone is looking for them.
Follow the story as Tom and Nina stop to prevent another event from happening. Discover who was responsible and how Tom and Nina were vindicated. Read the exciting finish to find out what happens in the end.
I really enjoyed this book and like that although part of a larger series, it is very readable as a standalone book. Tom Rollins is very Reacher like, appears to be nomadic and getting into trouble even when he isn’t looking for it. In Kill Switch (book 14 in the Tom Rollins series) he is working nights as a cook in a diner while doubling as their security guard and living in a bare apartment. Until one day when he feels something is wrong and years in special ops has taught him to pay attention to that feeling.
The whole false flag operation and blame the main character thing has been done so often it would usually put me off a book but there is something about this one that makes it a page turner. I wish we got to see a little more of Nina’s fallout at the end but I was invested in finding out the why and who behind the attacks – and whether he would get double-crossed by the people he helped.
Kill Switch is almost an action movie in a mystery book. Lots of violence and death if that bothers you. It blends in themes of greed, the issues of using AI and political motivations – so a little something for everyone.
An interesting book, a mystery thriller where a former black ops specialist is made the scapegoat for blowing up a government building. Tom has taken temporary residence in downtown San Francisco and working as a cook in a diner in the Bayview area, a place with a high crime rate. He helps save the diner from being attacked by masked thieves and gains a reputation for it. He meets a female cop Nina with whom he starts a relationship, which is shortlived as both of them are framed for the attack. The book is all about their daring escape and being hunted down by the cops as well as the mafia responsible for the bombing. The real action happens over a 24-hour period and is all about how they keep themselves alive help solve the crime and clear their name. A quick read and very engrossing that helps you get over a boring long journey. Thank you for providing this book for review consideration via BookSprout All opinions are my own
This was excellent. As usual, it's full of action and intrigue and the pace is relentless. It doesn't matter what Tom Rollins does. Trouble always seems to find him.
As the blurb says, a group have targeted Rollins to be their patsy in a weird bombing plot. They soon find out that they picked the wrong guy. Tom and his new friend ,cop Nina, also end up having the gang and a group of corrupt police officers on their tail. It's quite a breathtaking read. I tend to read at the same pace of the book so I flew through it. I have loved all this series and this may be the best of the lot. It also works fine as a standalone but I would recommend reading all the earlier ones. I hope for many more to come.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Tom Rollins is usually stirring up the pot for trouble, finding it where ever he turns and not able to keep a blind eye to it. In this case, his past is being used to set him up for trouble even while he's trying to keep his nose clean.
Suffice it to say, you're in for a rollicking adventure as Tom and a new lady law enforcement friend are hunted down after being blamed for a catastrophic bombing they had nothing to do with. The plot thickens the further you get in, but be assured Tom will come through once again to put the bad guys in their place.
Another fast read and edge of your seat storyline - I highly recommend it!.

Rollins while working as a cook in a restaurant during night shifts prevents robbers trying to rob the place on a number of occasions and when handing the culprit over to the police becomes attacked to the female officer. This attraction leads to them both being kidnapped on their days of by military personnel working as mercenaries for a corrupt politician and set up for explosion that kills a lot of innocent people. On escaping from the mercenaries they both set out to clear their name resulting in hair raising events to discover who was behind the plot and in doing so save the life of senator and his family which eventually leads them to the people responsible revenge and clearing their names.
Ok, so "good guys" get in a fight & do battle with the "bad guys" !!
I don't care about that !! I expect that !! That's why I buy & read the book !!
What I really enjoy is how an author constructs that battle, how he develops the surroundings & the "unique elements" (like the Wolverines) that set it apart from other "good guy battles" !! Paul Heatley does that !! As I read this book, I realized I was missing my favorite TV show so I put the book down & began watching TV !! After only a couple of minutes, I turned it off & went back to reading !! Thank You, Mr. Heatley !!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book & will find more Tom Rollins (Paul Heatley) "adventures" !!!
Wow this book had it all tons of action and adventure, both a hero and heroine, tons of bad guys with big guns, and a trained army fighting against a little old woman and man. Were they outnumbered, the army that is?
Orlando Higgs and Nina had it all. And as we all know San Francisco and all of California need more hero's. So the next time you see a cook in a restaurant or a waitress do not make them mad cause you might just get your butt whooped. So do not say you have not been warned.
If you love books with lots of action this is the book for you so check it out, you will not regret it.
I got this book from Book Sprout and will gladly leave my review.
The Author, Paul Heatley, has created one of my favourite characters, Tom R, in this genre that I love to read. Rollins thinks on the fly, solves any problem and accomplishes many tasks and this book does not disappoint. The Author has a great way of telling a story which makes a gripping read. An Action-packed series. Has you non-stop reading to find out how he gets out of the next mess. Edge of your seat ending and leads into the next book which makes you want to know what is going to happen there. One of my favourite Authors and since we discovered him my family has devoured so many of his books.

no rest Every time I read a book about Tom Rollins I wonder how some people seem to attract trouble no matter what they do. Fortunately Tom´s training enables him to fight back and prevent more evil from bringing terror into this world in spite of the fact that instead of finding support and gratitude even more obstacles are put in his way. In this case I was appalled by the possibilities A.I can be manipulated and how even pros struggle to prove they are innocent of what they are accused of.
Heatley writes an engaging & captivating thriller. The stories he spins are superb. His characters are complete yet co rings to evolve. I love his continuity of character hers c TV anger only by Tom' s travels and escapades. A fun , great story BB teller. A thoroughly good series and read. I highly recommend you pick & read one of Paul Heatly's books! You sound captivated. C.Barackney
Tom Rollins is living in San Francisco trying to lay low. Everything is good until he is grabbed off the street along with an S.F. Police officer and all clear that a group wants to make him and her the fall persons for a bombing of a federal building that it is more than that and continues to search and fight until he has the real target. He also the people who are setting him up and now he is after them as well. A very exciting book with many characters and very much worth the read.
I have not read all the previous books in this series, but the ones I read I enjoyed it. Kill Switch is like an action movie, there's a lot (I mean a lot!) of fighting, running, getting hurt and hurting people, and also there's the old greed for money and power. Entertaining.

I really like this series, and the latest book is my favourite so far. Maybe because I'm not new to the series, Tom Rollins just keeps on impressing me characterwise - more and more complex and three dimensional with qualities and flaws in spades. I loved the exploration of the ethics surrounding the use of AI. Great read that kept me turning the pages.
Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance reader copy. If you want a synopsis, click on the book.
This was my first Paul Heatley book and I enjoyed it very much. The hero, Tom Rollins, is a Reacher type and there's plenty of action throughout with twists and turns. The short chapters help you to read it quickly. Now, where are the rest of Mr Heatley's books?
It's another thrilling story w/ Tom Rollins in command, but this time cop Nina Perry gets caught up in the snare. The stakes are high when Tom and Nina are being accused of a horrendous crime and they must be quick to get to the bottom of the truth. Paul Heatley books are always filled w/ rapid action that immediately grabs your interest.
This is the 14th book in the series and they just keep getting better and better. All these books are action packed and keep you on the edge of your seat. Tom is a former black ops specialist working as a short order cook and trying to fly under the radar. When Tom and Nina are held at gunpoint and kidnapped they know they have to plan an escape.
this was a strong fourteenth book in the Tom Rollins series, i enjoyed the action thriller element to this book and how everything worked together. The characters had that concept that I was looking for and glad everything flowed together.

This was a thrilling suspenseful story with a high body count and your normal over the top heroics. It was fast paced and entertaining. Tom Rollins is the all american action star trying to do the right thing and in this story clear his name. I found the book very entertaining.

Gripping thriller that keeps you hooked and guessing until the end. Like the strong male character that has to go through many obstacles and has to reach within himself to find ways to solve the problems that are thrown at him. Hard to put down.

I know this is fiction, but I found this one hard to believe. You have all these ex-military men being killed, and a beat cop female is better than them. I don't think so! I still love these books, though.
Also, I'm a bit confused about the authors views...They are all over the road on this book.
This is a great novel this book is a great book to own I enjoyed this storyline this book is very well written I really really enjoyed reading this book.

Tom finds himself and a new friend in some serious trouble when he moves and finds work in San Francisco. Serious trouble in fact that it could cost them both their lives if they're unable to clear their names.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kill Switch is an excellent book. Paul Heatley did a truly outstanding job with this book. The story line was great and the characters nicely developed and expanded. A great read.
I do not enjoy an author who is bias. Keep politics out of the story. Democrats or Republicans are politicians, they are elite unto them selves. I would not walk across the street to meet any of them. Thank you Rose
The slaughter went on and on and on and on The wolverines Are something I hope never happen It would be terrible For something like that to occur and to be brought To like to life A good read overall hard to put-down m
