I simply couldn't get enough of this story, totally addictive!!!

In this this bundle of chapters, Roman and Ashley finally give into their feelings for each other and are opening up to love, but as much as they would like to stay inside the safety of their adventure, the real world is catching up to them. Carmen who is Roman's ex is afraid of her feelings for Noah, and she retrieves back into the safety of her world inside her father's business, which means she needs to find Roman and Ashley and finish the job she had started and finally knock down the beach property and start building, she knows it won't be easy so she needs to bring in the big guns, Ashley's father, the Senator.

When Ashley sees her father, the man who's been absent from her life she knows she's in big trouble. They love each other in their own way but have no relationship at all. After this adventure and experiencing Roman's love and her father's truths, she finally realizes is time to move on, even if that means leaving Roman behind. Will Roman let her go, and go back to his boring life without complications or fight for his home in paradise? Because that's what love is, home.

Ruthie Knox is an incredible writer, her words were like a literary time machine that transported me right inside the story. She created very lovable characters who I found myself having so many things in common with. I loved reading about a character like Roman, who is a Cuban living in Miami. Not very often you get to read about the struggles that people from other countries go through when coming to live here, trying to blend their background with a new environment. This story was incredibly romantic and passionate and I can't wait to read more from this author.

These are pleasant stories or chapters that travel along well, literally, as the characters drive from the Florida Keys to Wisconsin and back Total romance with some raunchy moments, but sweet. I think it got better as it progressed.

This is the last 5 books of Roman Holiday. It's okay. The best part is both Roman and Ashley do some growing up. Overall I don't like Roman or Ashley I find them both childish. Very slow moving and just okay.

ROMAN HOLIDAY by Ruthie Knox: When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Cocktails

Galley provided by publisher via NetGalley for review purposes. no remuneration was exchanged and all opinions presented here are my own unless otherwise noted.

ORIGINAL POST 5/8/14 at: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

I love Ruthie Knox! Her books just make me shiver with delight. Some are so hot I make my husband read them ad take notes.

A million years ago in college a professor discussing the principles of the dialectic told me that we end up being some average between what we want to be and what others will let us be. In other words, if your want to be an astronaut and NASA won’t hire you you’re not going to be an astronaut (at least not in the US). Somehow that relates to this story.

In the second “season” of the series each character’s quest becomes something different when the couple and another friend who has tagged along on Ashley’s journey to show Roman why he shouldn’t tear down her grandmothers hotel. What the come to realize is that neither is the person they think they are. In Roman’s case he molded himself to fit first his foster father’s twisted design and then his mentor’s wishes.

For the often abandoned Ashley, she’s as flexible as a shape shifter, but soon she’ll forget how to make her own shape. And the same is true for Roman. He has been hearing his foster father, then his mentor telling him he was sick and then that he needed to be a certain way to succeed.

We all get a bowl of fruit, even if it’s lemons we get some say in whether we complain about how sour they are or make the best of them!

The road trip love story is really beautiful. As much as the “new adult.” becoming an adult emotionally is important. What Ashley and Roman learn about themselves and the people who raised them, or loved them, or helped them is life altering. There are no mysteries, no magic: just the imperfection of family (biological or created) and connection.

Ruthie reaches into my life and pulls out pieces and shows them to me — in Ruthie’s writing I learn about myself and it doesn’t matter what stage of adulthood I am in.

I love how throughout the couple worries about the speed of their relationship. Well, the road trip is like the hero’s quest whether it is for the grail or to save the maiden. And the intensity of the quest can bring people closer together in a very concentrated way; as if personalities are distilled into their realist form in the cab of a truck. And, the road trip s a time honored quest mechanism. We end up in Camelot, Ohio, home of Ruthie’s eponymous series, and the familiarity is lovely.

Speaking of series, this was originally to be released like a TV show – in series, with episodes. The first went like that but the second season, discussed here is releasing all at once. And, they really are serial and need to be read in order.

And then we have classic Ruthie hook-ups like this between two secondary characters:

One palm found her thigh and dragged up it, forcing her skirt to form ridges an valleys, a glacier moving slowly toward her hip.

The Plate tectonics of desire, is effect on her as undeniable as shaking earth and drifting continents, crashing into each other.

I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ruthie Knox’s ROMAN HOLIDAY! It’s available as the first and second part separately or as the entire serial in one fell swope.

I read a lot of books so I also read a lot of mediocre books that are a nice escape and entertaining but don’t stick in my brain too long after I’ve read them. Courtney Milan and Ruthie Knox are two authors who consistently produce quality writing. The best thing is you don’t notice while you are reading the book. The books are page turners for me. I can’t wait to read more and have a hard time putting them down but when I am done I think ‘damn, that was awesome’. In this book, Ashley has come home to Sunnyvale Resort after her grandmother dies. She was sent to live with her grandmother when she was 13 and she is dismayed to find out that grandma sold Sunnyvale to a developer and left her a trailer and a few boxes of memories. Ashley impulsively chains herself to a palm tree right before a hurricane. Roman, the developer is trying to work his first major deal with his fiance’s dad and mentor and is suddenly pulled into the vortex that is Ashley. The rest of the book is about a journey, both literal and figurative that these two people take together. They fall in love, obviously and have many conflicts and obstacles to navigate to be together. Typical romance novel, right? But Ruthie Knox intertwines all three journeys (actually more than 3 I think many of the secondary characters were on journey’s as well) in a way that is so clever and she does it without using the ‘big misunderstanding’ trope. Rather than realizing and admitting they love each other and then fade to black, the love comes before the conflicts are resolved and they resolve them in a totally interesting adult and mature way. I didn’t fell manipulated at all in being emotionally involved n the books.. I am not explaining this very well. I loved the book and at the end I was satisfied, full and then realize again that the book was written extremely well, it flowed well and I appreciated and felt like as a reader I was treated maturely too. She doesn’t beat you over the head with anything. I think you will really like this book. You should read it and then go back and enjoy all her other books. The only thing I didn’t like was how it was released. I got the first half in installments and then a few months later the second half. I didn’t love that. When I finished the last installment of the first half I was anxious to read the rest. When I started the second half months later, it took me a while to remember what was going on and who everyone was. It didn’t ruin the book by any means but I won’t read another book that way. Definitely an A 5 star read.

Episode 6
I admit that recently I've been having a hard time remembering story lines and what not. Especially when I've been reading so much lately. So it came to no surprise, that I had a hard time remembering where Episode 6 starts off from. I liked in one the previous episodes that Ruthie Knox started out with a "previously on". It really recapped what had happened thus far.

But Episode 6 picks off with the continued sexual tension that our characters left off with. There's a bit of a tug and pull because they're attracted to one another, but at the end of the day there's land to be had.

Episode 7
This episode I found to be more about Carmen. Going into the novellas, I didn't assume Carmen was going to get POV chapters. She's an interesting character because on the outside she portrays this very fierce woman, will do anything to get somewhere, but on the inside this very deep and almost insecure person.

It was also a nice touch that Nana is the Nana from Knox's Camelot series. We get a glimpse of Carly and Jamie at their wedding reception. That was unexpected surprise. Nana is something else.

Knox uses family dynamics in such a good way. Ashley's father comes into play as does Roman's sister. They both have family issues to contend with and in order for them to really have a clean break with one another, they have to deal with those issues on their own. It's also nice to see how they each view each other. While they have negative portrayals of themselves, it's only until they see how the other views them that they are able to be (it's going to sound cliche) one with themselves.

I am cranky about the way the book was published. Serials suck.

If I had gotten the whole book all at once, I might have liked it more...maybe not, though. I found Ashley kind of tiresome, as heroines go, and I felt like some of the conflict between her and Roman was contrived in order to make the book longer. Still, reading it all at once might've helped me to enjoy the humor and angst and everything I usually love about Knox's books.

The main problem, though, was that, even in just 2 intervening months between my reading the last of the first five and being able to buy the second half, I had kind of stopped caring. It was compared to two "seasons" of a TV show, but that's not really what it was like. There weren't enough subplots for that to work--each "episode" focused on Roman and Ashley. Also, no real suspense! It's not like Rachel and Ross, where they might end up together or they might not. TV sitcoms can do whatever they want with romances, because the romance is not the show. Romance authors can't. If this is a book about Roman and Ashley, then we all know Roman and Ashley are going to end up together.

It was more like if I'd had to take a two-month break in the middle of watching a romantic comedy movie. Am I going to be eager to watch the second half? Or am I just going to be annoyed that they didn't film the whole thing at once? (Hint: the second one.)

So. Lesson for me: Do not buy serials until they are finished, then buy the whole darn thing at once.

4.5 stars. I've feel like I waited a long time for the rest of this series, and I can't tell you how happy I was that Ruthie Knox bundled the rest of it. :)

Roman and Ashley continue on Ashley's quest, though now it's sort of become Roman's too, since he's now on Ashley's side. Only Roman isn't the only one growing and changing. Ashley is too, with all of the things she's learning from her friends along the way, none of it what she thought she'd find out, a lot of it painful. Now, saving Sunnyvale doesn't seem near as important as finding out the whys. Why didn't her grandmother tell her she was selling, or that she was sick? Didn't she care about Ashley?

This last part of Roman Holiday really made my heart hurt, though it just as often made it beat hard too. Roman has really buried the uptight, unemotional developer who only wants to get richer. The way he loves Ashley, the way she makes him feel....not gonna lie, turned me into a swoony, sighing woman, every time.

Roman and Ashley go through so much here, and though some of it is devastatingly hurtful, good things eventually come out of it, as with most pain in life. I love the way Ruthie Knox doesn't make everything easy for her characters but gives them lots of family and friends to help them through (or hold them up, lol).

I loved this series so much, and this was the perfect finish. Another wonderful story from one of my very favorite auto-buy authors, and I look forward to many more from her.

I felt that this second season of Roman Holiday was quite disappointing compared to its first season. The first season was very promising, with interesting characters and great potential for some amazing character developments. However, I felt that this was poorly executed in this second season, and that the developments were mediocre and really disappointing given the potential that had been built.

I would have enjoyed this second season more if its episodes had been released weekly, as had been done in the first season. I would have loved to have read an episode, then join in on the forum discussions and dissect it for all it was worth. I did this with the first season, and I think that largely improved my enjoyment of the series. The community, the discussions and interactions, hypotheses for what would happen next. Having the second season released only as one bundle was quite disappointing, and I think it took away something from the reading experience.

On the whole, I would rate the series 3/5 stars. I LOVED the first season, but this second one disappointed my expectations.

I am very glad that Ms. Knox decided to bundle up the 'series.' I had read the first five 'episodes' as they came out week by week and I have to say I enjoyed having the final five episodes at my fingertips all at once.
While the first half of the series was good. I found myself enjoying the second half much more. I chalk it up to building the story and characters in the first half and now letting them shine as the story continued.
The intensity between Ashley and Roman was off the charts. They brought out the things in each other that they felt were lacking. But they weren't really lacking at all. They just couldn't see it in themselves. It really was heartwarming to watch them blossom with each other.
The secondary story of Noah and Carmen was good as well. The saying to not judge a book by its cover was never more evident than with these two.
Also the secondary characters added a layer to the story.

I really overall enjoyed this book, although, personally, I would've enjoyed it more had it been a regular-length book and a little shorter. I felt certain areas dragged and were repetitive, especially in the first half. I could've done without the Carmen/Noah thing. Not sure what that really added. It was another closed-off person unfreezing, but it seemed repetitive in light of Roman's journey. It would've been better put into a companion novella, in my opinion, if the author felt that story needed to be told...I didn't. I always hate switching gears to another story in the middle of the story I'm dying to get to the end of - the main story - to get that HEA high, you know. I REALLY REALLY like Roman, the hero. I'd like to hear more from these two. Hopefully they will show up in another book, like other characters from Camelot did in this book.

In Roman Holiday: the Adventure Continues, Ruthie Knox finishes the serial novel she began in fall of 2013. Though not published in individual installments like the first five, this second chapter brings all five installments in a single release. Though I missed the fun of the weekly installment, I did enjoy being able to read through the entire second half uninterrupted. Ashley and Roman’s story comes to a satisfying conclusion as both characters open up about what’s driving them. The journey of the first set of novellas takes a more focused turn in this second half. Both characters both realize their own hang-ups and together they are able to move forward. Knox brings the entire serial to a wonderful conclusion. For those that read the first installment I recommend picking up where you left off. For those that didn’t, I recommend starting at the beginning.

Simple to the point and in a nut shell locked tight. This was a good read and it would have benefited from less drag time. There are some spots that seemed to drag out. I do understand it was to the benefit of the read. There are just some thing that you have to experience it without the quick recap of events.

This Roman Holiday was well worth the adventure.

Knox gave it a big hit home. Knox intertwines friends, family and lovers into a cohesive unit that makes for a better than real life romance. Each character (H/h) have struggles to over come and then build from there. You can see them grow right before you eyes.

Ruthie Knox can sell any story, I think, because this one was unpromising. The hero and heroine are incredibly different and have no initial interest in each other. But Knox structures their story around a road trip, making their characters and relationship develop gradually over new encounters and experiences. Their HEA is driven by long conversations and slow compromises over that time and so it's satisfying to stick with them, even though their relationship is otherwise unrealistic and neither character is that interesting alone. But Knox is really gifted writer so she mostly pulls it off.

Characters: Beautifully wonky characters that are well explored.
World Building: Travel with an Airstream.
Plot: Largely internal/emotional.
Sex: Hot.
Read another: Yes. Yes. Yes.

I love all of Knox's writing. She writes unusual characters with unusual motivations, and then she fully explores what will happen with them, both internally and externally. She does all of that, and she also includes healthy dollops of great sex that also helps expand the understanding of the characters.

Another Ruthie Knox stunner. I swear she can do no wrong. Although, having episodes 6-10 at my disposal to read as quickly as I like worked better than the slow serial distribution of the first half. I have no patience, you see.

I will say I found Carmen and Noah's story a fun little side plot I looked forward to reading as the story progressed.
