Alix Principio was born with a number. A bloody number 1 etched on his chest the moment he was pulled from his mother’s body.
Within the city of Nox, formerly known as New York City, an authoritarian state called One has sprung from the ashes of the deadliest plague humanity has ever seen. Every human is now born with a number etched on their chest. It increases painfully every day, the direct consequence of a rushed vaccine that saved humanity from extinction.
But Alix has an even bigger problem. His number is growing at more than twice the rate of everyone else’s, a reality that threatens his very life. Desperate to slow his number growth and find answers to the larger mysteries in his family, Alix discovers a secret, black-market treatment—the only thing rumored to erase all numbers.
The only problem is that it’s dangerous, irreversible, and every person who gets it is hunted by the government that criminalized it and keeps it hidden.
But when faced with his demise and the lies he’s been told, the treatment could be the least of Alix’s fears.
One thing is certain. It has the power to change everything he knows about being human.

I recently read an exciting scifi thriller with an amazing premise that was exciting and certainly thought provoking. I love reading a first book in a series, and Zeropoint certainly set up world building when the authoritarian city of Nox emerged after a deadly plague affected every human in the planet.
I found the topic creative and not far from reality - definitely scary in that sense. I also enjoyed following main character Alix Principio's plight of survival, which certainly made me turn those pages. I look forward to reasong the next installment of this series.
“And what is a number? It is the total of how many steps you have taken away from your Highest Self. It is not sin…It is not punishment…The numbers are a sign. They are a holy marker.”
Zeropoint follows Alix Principo in the year 2200 CE. Due to a plague that nearly wiped out the human race, Alix, as well as all humans, was born with a number on his chest. The number increases as individuals get older, often anytime anyone has a devious thought. Only Alix is a bit of an anomaly. His numbers are increasing faster than most humans. Ultimately he’s diagnosed with RND, or Rapid Number Disease, a paralyzing life threatening condition if not gotten under control.
As Alix grapples with his potential untimely demise, a number of humans are being killed around the city of Nox, formerly known as New York City. The murders hitting too close to home, Alix confides his concerns in his sister, Vida, a local police chief. But even the police can’t overrule One, the mysterious government that controls the world. The deeper Alix dives into both his condition and the murders, he realizes the two may be aligned in ways he never could have dreamed. Suddenly armed with new, life changing knowledge, Alix has to make a decision that could mean losing his sister in order to save himself.
Zeropoint the concept refers to the point in quantum physics where all reality originates as explained in the beginning of the book. While the world of quantum physics is not one I pretend to understand, the futuristic world in which author, @sevensdesk has created doesn’t seem so far fetched. This is not to take away from the author’s intense storytelling and clear penchant for writing dystopian related detail. Listed as book one and ending on a catastrophic cliffhanger, it will be interesting to see where this story takes us in the next installment. Thank you to @dartfrogbooks for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.
The material was silky beneath his fingertips as he carefully admired the brilliant colored bolts of fabric in front of him. Everything was screaming for his attention, demanding to be turned into something the world had never seen before. If he could only live long enough to be the one to make that happen.
Zeropoint is a sci-fi thriller follow Alix, a fashion designer residing in the city of Nox, formerly known as New York City. Alix was born with a number etched in his chest… a number that continues to grow every day and has no signs of stopping.
This was an entertaining read and as the start of a new series looks to be promising for sci-fi and dystopian fans. I liked following Alix’s character and getting insight into the world after a deadly plague alters the planet. I’m glad I picked this one up!
If you’re a fan of dystopian books, sci-fi and thrillers, and love the fashion world… give this book a try!

I started this and was *immediately* overwhelmed and intimidated by the brief introduction to quantum physics. Then, after reading page one, I was absolutely intrigued. The concept of this novel is *fascinating* and I haven’t stopped thinking about “my number” since starting this book. For as complex as the theories of quantum physics and multi-universes are, the world Seven built here was actually fairly easy to pick up on. I liked Alix, I liked the “action movie” plot and pace, and I liked the mystery of Alix’s parents, RND, and his activation. Once in the Gulch, Seven did lose me a *bit* with some of the science and spiritual explanation seemingly going above my head. However, the ending did nothing but cement my intrigue and I’ll be anxiously anticipating the next book in the series! (Vida…. Oh poor sweet Vida we gotta get you in the know, girl!) Thank you, DartFrog Books for the opportunity to read this one.
I really enjoyed this unique novel full of intriguing ideas of future possibilities. It begins with a nod to quantum physics and uses concepts from what we know to create the fascinating city Nox, that used to be New York City before the plague, and a culture born of numbers with an existential meaning.
This story is powerful in it's interpretation of a future that doesn't seem that far off paired with a creative imagination that shines a light on what makes us human, the good and the bad. I felt a range of emotions as I read this book and while it ended on an exciting cliffhanger I was left feeling hopeful and reflective. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the next installment takes us.
