Deadly Beauties #2

Poison's Kiss

Rate this book
Alyssa has spent her entire life foolishly believing things are only laid out in black or white, but now she finds herself stuck in the gray area. The inner battle she faces with her own dark power that she has denied for too long starts to brew all the more fiercely. Kane's coldness breaks her heart even more than it's already broken, but fate's cruel sense of humor forces them to band together despite their torrid conflict.
The biggest problem... There are consequences she didn't know she'd have to face after giving herself to Kane, and she finds herself in pain each and every time she's near him. A pain that leaves her feeling like a puppet.
Hope rests on the shoulders of her enemies, and her allies pile up in all the wrong forms. When tragedy strikes, she's faced with more dark choices to make. Everything gets twisted, and she becomes stuck in the middle of an internal game of tug-of-war. Gage is there, but he's just as much her enemy as a night stalker. How can she trust any of them?
The world is fully of deadly beauties, and deception is their best played game. Alyssa keeps learning the hard way how true this is.

Fantastic Read!! If you love stories about vampires, shapeshifters, and witches, you gotta' read this series. This series just keeps getting better. I purchased this book and finished it quickly. I got sucked (LOL!!) into the story and was saddened that it ended. I love the content: twists and turns, the hunks are so HOT. The characters seem to grow within each story. You'll definitely need tissue to wipe your eyes in this series. Allysa is a witch, who is on the verge of becoming immortal. She has developed feelings for Kane and Gage. She has always looked at life as black or white, but comes to realize that the world is "gray". She has allies from both black/white (evil/good). As she tries to master her feelings in regards to her love life, she discovers that someone is out to get her. She faces obstacles, a death of a friend, and has more questions about which path she will choose. Will she choose Kane or Gage? Who knows!! Can't wait until the next book is out to find out answers to some of my questions. C.M. Owens definitely is a fantastic story teller that keeps you guessing and wanting more. Cheers!!

I really love this story. It has action, romance, magic... anything my little hearty desires. Although, I really hate love triangles. I disliked her flip-flopping, telling Gage to stay away and then having sex, but convinced not being in-love with him. She loved/loves Kane. Arrgghhh!
I love the fact that when speaking of our Alyssa being the most powerful being, you actually read/saw how powerful she is indeed. Most of the books that talk about the heroine being the most powerful being, there is barely proof/action that justifies this. The heroine is a damsel in distress at most. In this book, she is totally wicked when she lets her power out. The change in her thought process, look on her face, actions.... It's there! She kicked ass when everyone else failed, even her father.... Loved it! She ROCKS!
Thank you for this joyride! I can't wait to read the next book!

Oh man, this was so good. I loved book one, and book two didn't disappoint at all.

Book one left my emotions all over the place...book two wasn't much better. I loved Kane, I hated Kane, then I loved him again. I'm definitely a fan of Kane. Gage is nice, but I really don't want them together.

I really hope that Amy goes away permanently. I. Hate. Her...and her character. There is NO way that Kane should be with her. I hope she gets written off in the third book. I seriously don't like her.

I loved the ending of book two, and I'm really excited about getting my hands on book three. I really hope it's released soon.

ANOTHER HIT!

Another hit in my opinion. I can't wait for the Summer release of Red Moon Secrets. These books are so at the top of my list right now! I am holding back so hard right now to keep from giving spoilers but I laughed, cried and was on the edge of my seat through much of this book and Owens is a literary genius in my humble opinion when it comes to the novel and certain aspects thereof. she keeps you interested all the way through AND keeps you salivating for what's to come. Major props. She's already become one of my new favorites, and that's saying a lot.

Great book will turn you on and still plenty of action and suspense.

Great mix of sex and storyline neither overpowers the other and your emotions will flow right along side of Alyssas. looking forward to the third book. this book plays like a tv series in your brain. all the words turn to pictures and just the right amount of detail to make your imagination pop in the rest of the scene. well written and edited. 2 thumbs up.

This book picks up almost right where Blood's Fury left us, which is kind of a mess. Kane didn't know Alyssa is a witch, and she didn't know he's a Night Stalker. Two natural sworn enemies should not be bedding each other, and certainly not loving each other. The hate and distrust is deeply rooted into both of them, that they instantly turn their back on each other and expect the worst. I.E. Kane thinks Alyssa played him, to get to his ruthless and powerful sire. Alyssa thinks Kane played her to get to her blood, which she willingly gave him access to during their sheet exercise. In order to cope with the reality of things, they each use different mechanisms. Kane becomes distant and cruel towards Alyssa, where as she finds salvation in her Dark Witch, Gage and flaunts their relationship in front of Kane.

The plan to avoid one another should be easy enough, until they learn that Kane's psychotic sire is hunting down Alyssa. While Kane does almost beg her to leave town, she for some reason doesn't. Alyssa spends a lot of time, thought process and words repeating the same mantra: just because I'm a super natural, doesn't mean I have to accept there's people around me that could kill me or that I should be smarter and take care. Okay, that's not actually what she says, but it might as well have been! As a witch she knows how dangerous all these deadly beauties around her really are. But for some unknown reason, she refuses to take things serious. It's like a child holding their hand in front of their eyes, or sticking their fingers into their ears while immaturely stating: if I can't see or hear you, you can't see or hear me.

At the same time she chooses to be with Gage, but is still drawn to Kane at every chance she gets. I know that C.M. Owens created the perfect loop whole for this, but still, Alyssa doesn't get any cool points for her behaviour. It turns out that because Kane is immortal, when he took her v-card it created some special bond between them. Meaning, until Alyssa sleeps with someone else, she'll keep pining and aching for Kane. How romantic!

But despite all these negative things, it works! C.M. Owens pull out the stops and I'll admit, that despite the love triangle this book is awesome. As a reader we get pulled more into this super natural world, see even more species (which I really liked) and, I do feel for Alyssa. She's been so sheltered and now BOOM, she's right smack in the middle of everything and has to learn on the go.

The story becomes more interesting, tangled and complex when we learn that someone is gunning for Alyssa, and her family. On top of that, even her powerful father might not be enough to stop this faceless foe.

All the characters keeps the downtime interesting. Alyssa's BFF Thad and Kane's coven are amazing. Their snark and world ideas doesn't let you down! But I think the best part is, that in trilogies the second book can often feel like a filler. Sort of a lay by between the introduction and the grand finale. Well that's not the case here. This second instalment provides some answers, but leaves you with even more questions. Actually, as I'm writing this review I've finished the third book too, because I was too hooked to put it down! This does back fire a little, because by reading them like this back to back, it's harder to remember exactly what happened in which book.

CM Owens is the only author to write a mother fucking love triangle that I don’t hate. (Well besides Twilight. But if we’re being fair, that’s hardly a love triangle since we know how it ends.)

But let’s get back on topic. I was super hesitant about starting this series since it is a love triangle. But also it’s her early works, and like the first three Sterling Shore books aka written around this time. CM is a great writer, but I had a hard time enjoying those.

I really fucking like this series. It’s another wildly different book she’s written, and I’ve read a lot of her stuff. I love how complex her stories are and how you get completely consumed.

Looks like I’m not getting any sleep tonight. On to book three!

Open to the Next in the Series

*****Spoilers*****

This one keeps the interesting at a maximum but the night and dark distinctions are confusing and I can't keep them straight. The worst thing about this book is Alyssa and how she's constantly going on about Amy. No matter how often she hears Kane say he's not interested even when he's not in Alyssa's presence and she's able to hear Kane say it all the time to his friends , she's insanely obsessed with the girl. Gage I like and Drackus too.

Goodness!! the more you think you have a handle on it the more you realize you don't.

Kane: ok don't get me wrong, I love Kane but he getting on my last nerves. OMG get out your feelings. She was not the only one hiding things (pot meet kettle). And when he finally comes to his senses she has moved on to another pair of socks (loved the analogy).

Alyssa: I happen to love Alyssa. She is just really tryin to find her way in the whole mess. At some point she will get it.

Drackus: Now everyone has issues with Drackus but I love him. he's like the mob. He has his bad side (I mean who doesn't) but he still looks out for his child. He makes sure things get done and no one really knows his motives but hey, who are they to question him...Fearing him is all they are suppose to do.

And then there is the love triangle thrown in it. I love it!! Alyssa is just tryin to figure out which socks works best. I mean the girl is tryin to weigh her options she is 20 after all and hormones run while.

On to book 3.....

Fantastic read! I wasn't disappointed! The only problem now is waiting for the next installment.

The writing is excellent, as we rejoin our heroine the situations get a bit darker, Alyssa's power is unleashed somewhat and things get a bit more push- pull between Kane and Gage. We see more of a relationship between her and her father, and there is a new character introduced wrapped in leather aptly named Dice. He doesn't play a huge role but does add some humor and strength.

Quite an exciting read. I really enjoy the way the writing pulls you in. Excellent read. Looking forward to the next book.

Poison's Kiss is book two. Continuing with Alyssa's story, we find out for sure what we should have already suspected. and Alyssa's life is about to get complicated.

Kane isn't quite as human as we thought. His coldness breaks her heart, and she's forced into the protection of a dark magic user and a changer, two people she'd never thought she'd trust. With threats still out on her life and her mother's kidnapping yet unsolved, Alyssa isn't safe.

Her heart and her life are on the line, and she's got to start to see that the world isn't quite so black and white, light and dark, as she's always believed. Maybe there are shades of gray... and maybe she's caught in the middle too.

This second book is even better than the first book in this series. The more I read of this series, the more I'm hooked. I literally stayed up all night again because the mind boggling suspense in this paranormal book kept me reading and not wanting to stop for a second. Great plot and incredible characters. I'm so ready and excited about the third book. This is truly fantastic paranormal writing.

This was just as good as book one. I do like this authors writings style and things heat up a lot in this book. However, I was slightly disappointed with the love triangle and Alyssa's 'push/pull' of both guys. Also, the author doesn't help by endearing both Kane and Gage to the reader. I'm torn myself and that's not a good thing!

I look forward to the next book.

I read all 3 books in this series back to back, so I'm going to be lazy here and write one review for them all since each book rated 4 stars for me personally. I paid $5.98 for this trilogy and I think it was worth it. The plot was fast paced, and I did enjoy the characters. The story was well executed. I'll definitely read more of this writers work.

So, I bought this straight after finishing the first because there were so many unanswered questions left and new mysteries that sprung up after the way the first book ended. I needed to know what was going to happen.

This starts about a month after the last finished with Alyssa's mum having been found. Kane and Alyssa's relationship has come to an abrupt end and now they're avoiding each other - which is painful for both of them since they were very much in love with each other before they found out the truth. Alyssa is determined to find out who took her mum while also dealing with the threat of Castine. She's also started having feelings for two different guys now and is torn between them.

A lot seems to happen in this one. We see her feelings jumping around about Kane after what went down at the end of the last one - she loves him but she shouldn't. I have to admit, I was very much Team Kane. The first guy who comes onto the scene - unless he's a d*ck - is always the one I cheer on. There was almost an element of reverse harem about this, what with all the guys that are interested in Alyssa, but the author kept it as a love triangle instead.

There's also the fact that both Kane and Alyssa are being set up for killing creatures in the local area, trying to turn everyone against them. But so far they've been lucky and had alibis. I was very intrigued as to who would be behind it, and I was. But someone else was helping them and I want to know more.

So I went ahead and bought book 3! Because I need to know what's going to happen in the end with this messed up trio.

I think it’s clear for everyone reading this that Alyssa is going to be the girl from the prophecies, especially because that nightstalker who tried to kill her said “it’s you” after Alyssa showed her true powers.

If this doesn’t end up being a reverse harem I will sue everyone involved!
Gage is still my absolute fav❤️ (and him “cheating” was so obviously used as a tool to make Kane seems like the good guy again because this isn’t going to be a why choose book *rolls eyes* and I will absolutely ignore this pathetic attempt at making Gage the bad guy, TEAM GAGE!, especially because she cheats all the time with Kane)
A love triangle is just fun when either both get the girl or the better one (GAGE) gets her, not Kane who is annoying and obnoxious and doesn’t deserve any forgiveness.
Also the back and forth between the two got so old so fast, reading this part of the story felt like I’m being tortured. On top of that did it took away from the rather confusing and really detail heavy storyline, which made following along a bit difficult.

"Don't forget where I come from. Stay. The fuck. Away. From. Me. Or I'll finish the job."
"Baby? You're one stupid son of a bitch. Call me anything again, and I'll cut your tongue out."
I love when C.M creates murderous bad ass FMC’s🧎🏼‍♀️ Queen behavior❤️

„And what the hell is up with her and Dray? He's warned me more than once to watch how I speak to her. He even threatened to lock me up with Amy if I said one more thing he felt was too harsh."
I love when men get put in their place (and by someone who isn’t even her partner, heck ya!)

The MC is a little bit more annoying because she’s dumb. And I wish authors would just give us what we want and gift us the poly ending we deserve after an annoying (to say the least) love triangle. I do love the kind of reverse harem thing going on though. Also a nice excuse to imagine the prettiest people as the characters by having all supernatural creatures be hella beautiful.
The world of deadly beauties sucked me in and I couldn’t put the book down. The lores, characters, drama (relationship, family), I love everything about them.

Before I get into why this book drove me nuts I will say I love the story itself. It really does have a wonderful plot. So many characters to love. It just didn't work for me for other reasons.

Let's start with the love triangle. Alyssa is young so I will take that into consideration when it comes to her giving her heart away so easily. I hate how she slut shames herself. Girl your 20. Lol. That's all I will say to that. I didn't like Kane. I also didn't really know Gage. In my brain they were like Thing One and Thing Two. There wasn't any depth to either of them. The wishy-washy with both of them made for confusing characters..

Near the end when the competition was starting it was so childish. Well Gabe doesn't do this... I do says Kane

You could tell she was confused and I get that. she was also way too forgiving on all levels. I think if Kane truly did love her he would have sat her down and heard her side of the story way before Gage had a chance.

I'm not going to move on to next book because I have a feeling Kane is going to win out. The author is going to make Gage look like somebody he's not so we don't feel bad when she does choose Kane. In my humble opinion I would lose them both. I will continue to read this author's work but I'm done with the series.

I knew I was hooked when I couldn’t stop thinking about the book and trying to pick it up any chance I got.
As much as Alyssa grates me she did grow on me in this book. The constant crying is still annoying and her out of control hormones playing off Gage & Kane pissed me off. I can usually handle love triangles but this one annoys me.
That aside it’s refreshing to read a heroine who claims to be mighty powerful and actually show it. For that I like Alyssa, she’s also slowly growing a back bone. Loved when she took down Amy!
Gage Umm loved him in first book, this one not as much.
Kane on the other hand I fell head over heels. Sure he was a dick in the beginning but it was obvious it was out of hurt. He totally redeemed himself and Alyssa playing Kane & Gage against each other yet acting like it’s not her fault and she can’t help it got tiring.

I’m loving Drackus, can he be my dad?
Zee is awesome too and I think I’ll continue the next series just to read his book.
Thad noooooo 😭😭

I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES

Errr if I had know this was a love triangle I would have never bought this book. I can’t stand triangles!!! But putting that pet peeve aside the story itself is really good and the only reason I am still reading. I am really looking forward to seeing how this ends, but I am really disappointed in the romance aspect of this series. I wish there just wasn’t any love interests at all and just give me the main story. I definitely wouldn’t classify this as a romance and would have scored it higher if it was just a mystery. I have read other books by this author and was trapped inside other triangles, was hoping maybe all her books weren’t like that, but so far this doesn’t seem to be the case. Not sure I will be reading her again after this series if that’s all her romance consists of.

Again! I started the book right after I finished with the first one, and it was a mistake because the story was engaging, and it sucked me in and wouldn't let me have my good night's sleep. The betrayal she felt was so bitter, and it made my heartache for her too.

Throughout the painful moment, Alyssa found herself seeking comfort and release with another forbidden breed, a dark user. Gage was caring and a gentleman, perfect for her, but her heart wasn't into him, at least that's what she'd been telling herself.

The storyline was full of twists and turn. Usually, though, I was quite good at predicting, but I surrendered with this book. The disappearance of Alyssa's mother, the prophecy, also, I have no idea who Alyssa would be with, but I hope it would be Kane! Team Kane all the way!

Not happy!! Lots of Mixed feelings

I loved the first book but omg a love triangle really!!! I hate them and to be honest just for that reason alone I don't think I'll buy the third one. I'm really quite disappointed 😕 it ruined the whole book for me which is a shame because I was really enjoying the main story line and of course I'm still curious as to what happens next but I dunno. I think I've always give 5 stars in my reviews bar maybe once or twice but I definitely have to deduct one star for how the love triangle was portrayed but everything else was great. Sorry c.m Owens I think know the rest of your books are great well the ones I've read so far.

Cliff hangers!!!

The first two books are great. I can't wait to start the third.

Not sure I like the back and forth with the angsty guy stuff. That's the only annoying part I don't like. She's so naive its kind of not believable. I wish she was a bit stronger and not so weak with her emotions.

I like strong female leads and this female takes a sorry from a guy and drops her panties. But wants to be seen as strong and independent and just let's everyone use her.

Other than that, I gotta say I like all the paranormal drama, and the development of her coming into the world of paranormal.

I don’t even know where to start! This book literally had me on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter, just like the first book I read this one in a single sitting. I could not stop reading, I just had to find out all the answers to my questions!

This story is intense, action-packed, hot, steamy and so very captivating! This author writes with so much detail that makes it really easy to picture everything playing out, which kept me highly entertained.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for their next paranormal read, this is a series you won’t want to miss.

This 2nd installment in the Deadly Beauties Series was ... amazing!! The first book took awhile for it to gain some traction with me, probably because I was a little irritated with how naive, gullible and weak Alyssa was BUT damn did that change in this book and I couldn't be happier. I love how the author has allowed her to grow more self aware, powerful, and open minded to the world around her forcing her to make her own decisions versus what others have told her. The love triangle between Kane and Gage is hot hot hot ... maybe she can just have both of them???

Oh oh ooooh! That ending!

I have to say there was a lot of bed hopping in this book, I kind of lost a little heart for the leading lady because of it. OK I'm not sure who I'm rooting for her to be with, perhaps neither, both suiters are not quite the right fit. Maybe a new one will turn up in book 3? High body counts, a rush to figure out who is turning on who and is light really good? And dark really bad? Your led to believe so but as we get deeper in there seems to be a strong shade of grey!

Another awesome read

Poor Alyssa just can't catch a break. Even crazy witches are trying to kill her and the darks are trying to kill her. Any which way she turns someone is out to get her and she knows that someone has a mole on the inside of the lights.. She just has not figured out who it is yet, but she will and I think when she does she is going to be in for the shock of her life. One roller coaster after another!
