[Kuragehime] #12

Princess Jellyfish, tome 12

Rate this book

Wow. I hated this one, but it was also the first that made me tear up, so the 3 stars.

Tsukimi has to do a pile of things that are completely out of character to make the plot work. The story is falling into weird and yet cliche territory. Shu didn't deliver the CD? Selfish jerk. Why was Kuranosuke the one invited to the meeting with the CEO? If you are planning to poach an employee, you don't ask the boss first. Was it because the CEO knew Kuranosuke would act as selfishly as he did and that would drive a wedge between him and Tsukimi? Mayaya is still the ABOLUTE WORST. Hate her more than the CEO.

Tsukimi esentially betrays everyone in her life for nothing. The residents of the Amamizukan do not really care about it or each other. Though, I will say Mayaya is right. The residents are being forced to participate in something they do not care about. Tsukimi doesn't really care about their feelings either. What are they all fighting for? What is the point? They really don't give off a strong bond. They are all loners who hated/feared the same things, that's all.

I feel like this story is losing the plot. It's not really about saving the Amamizukan. It's not about becoming the best fashion designers, because that is supposed to be in service of bonding with lost mothers/raising funds. It's not really about gender expression. Is it about not being afraid to face the future?

The only part I liked was Lina, the mom. No explanation why she never had contact with her son ever again, considering he WANTS to see her, and she seems to love him terribly.

It's all just spinning into high drama that doesn't mean anything

The series has escalated quite a bit since Clara the jellyfish was rescued from a pet shop window display, and Tsukimi butchered Kuranosuke's expensive clothes for sake of turning them into frilly jellyfish
