When word gets out, Brock’s old superfans rush forward to support Glen, while others who vividly remember the horrors want him gone immediately, with or without force.
Glen must come to terms with who he truly is and navigate pressure from all angles to either walk in his father’s shadow or break free from it for good.
I’ve reviewed just about every book Andrew has put out so far and I can whole-heartedly say this man never disappoints. He is hands down one of my favorite indie horror authors.
I love a good serial killer novel and this was an interesting spin on the genre. Glen was such a real character, and I enjoyed watching him try to navigate through the shit show of finding out that his father was one of the most heinous serial killers of his time. Talk about emotional baggage. Ooooof. I also really liked the paranormal aspect of this book. Having the ghosts of his father’s victims start popping up as well as flashbacks into their deaths was absolutely terrifying. Well fricken done.
Glen Overton is your average 30 year old. He works as a data clerk and has a best friend at work who looks after him, but his home life isn't so average. His mother, Penny, is a full blown alcoholic and he tries to take care of her the best way he knows how. One night, Glen comes home to find her sitting in front of the TV, watching an interview of a very evil serial killer from the 70s/80s. This will be the first night of a crazy couple of months for Glen
Brock Blackwood is a name to be feared. He was a horrific and ruthless serial killer committing crimes since he can remember. He would record all of his killings to keep as souvenirs for himself. When he meets Penny, something in him goes soft, and they end up having a baby together. Brock does everything for a reason, and this is all part of a bigger plan in the future.
Throughout the years, Brocks murders were idolized by a group of people who called themselves "Brocks Babies." When they caught wind of Blackwoods offspring, they made it their mission to find him and support him. They will do anything, kill anybody, if it means that Brocks legacy remains alive. They will do ANYTHING to stay loyal to Brock
What a great story! Reading about Brocks past and his victims was spine chilling. I love a good antagonist, and Brock delivered. We see Glen's struggles as he's slowly finding out who he really is and also his everyday work struggles. Groupies are no joke, and "Brocks Babies" were some of the most loyal and insane fans. The vcr tapes were an excellent touch. It really gave off that found footage style, and it was well done. Lots of twists, turns, ghosts, and so much more. True crime fans will eat this up! A must read!
I was lucky enough to read this before all the big stuff(publishing, etc). I loved it. It was different from what the author usually writes but also still on par for him. Imagine finding out you are the son of a serial killer. What would you do? How would you feel? Would you feel obligated to follow in your father's footsteps, or would you try your damnedest to be a good person?
This was such an interesting horror story exploring the trauma that comes with being the son of a serial killer. I haven’t ever read a horror story like this, so it was really interesting to read about Glen and his journey. The fact that this everyday guy is the son of a serial killer, but doesn’t even realize it, is kind of funny. Then he pieces together who he is, and by then, there’s no going back.
I thought it was creepy and cool that the ghosts of Brock (Glen’s father, the serial killer)’s victims came to talk to Glen. They were in the same form they were in when they died, which was bloody and very well detailed. It didn’t take long for Glen to just accept these ghosts and talk to them normally, because at that point, nothing in his life was “normal.”
The relationship with Dana and Glen was my favorite from this story, and I wanted it to be explored more. We’re told they are best friends and that Dana is the only true friend Glen has ever had, but we aren’t really shown that through backstory or anything like that. I also found myself hoping that with the insanity of “Brock’s Babies,” Dana would try to save him from that… but unfortunately, that is not the case.
This was a cool story, I could so see this being adapted into a movie!

Title- Son of a Serial Killer by @andrew_adams_author Rating-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Son of a Serial Killer is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me hooked from the very first page. The premise is dark and intriguing: what if you discovered your father was a notorious serial killer, and worse, what if you inherited his murderous tendencies?
Adams does an excellent job of exploring the complexities of the protagonist, who grapples with his terrifying legacy while trying to prevent history from repeating itself. I also appreciated the way the author balanced the horror of the story with human vulnerability, making it more than just a typical crime novel.
The twists and turns are well-executed, and while some parts are a bit predictable, the overall suspense is maintained throughout.
Synopsis-

Son of a Serial Killer is a well-crafted, intense read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. Adams has a unique voice, and I’m excited to see what he writes next!
Glen Overton, a 30 year old corporate data clerk hates just about everything in his life. Having never known his father, his alcoholic mother accidentally confesses one night that he is the son of one of the most infamous serial killers, Brock Blackwood. This discovery will turn Glens life upside down completely, and now he must come to terms with who he really is.
This was a fun read especially for someone like me who is super interested in true crime stories! I’ve always wondered how someone may react to the news that their parent was a notorious serial killer, and how they navigate that truth; In Glens case, you can tell he wants some sort of belonging in his mundane life, so this discovery definitely uproots his life. My favorite part about the story was the paranormal aspects, I don’t want to spoil anything but those scenes made me squirm, especially with the descriptions. With Charles Manson family vibes, this book would be a trip for anyone who enjoys true crime stories like me for sure.
Huge thank you to the author for sending me this ARC, it was such a fun read! Son of a Serial Killer releases May 13th.
What a wild and unique story! ‘Son of a Serial Killer’ is the perfect title because when Glen finds out his father is an infamous serial killer, it takes over his whole life. It pretty much changes his whole identity. Suddenly he isn’t just Glen. Now he’s Glen, son of Brock Blackwood. Things really take a turn from there.
There are scenes that are so ominous and gritty and played out like a scratchy VHS tape in my mind. I thought it was interesting how the past plays out and how Glen finds out about it all.
I did have a couple of issues with it. The dialogue felt a little robotic at times. The characters’ personalities didn’t really come through. It also went a weird direction that I didn’t really care for. That’s all I can say without spoilers.
All that being said, this story grabbed my attention from page one. I read it in one sitting because I just had to know what was going to happen next. It was wildly imaginative and unlike anything else I’ve read.
As soon as I read the first page, I was hooked. I would have read it a lot faster however family got in the way. Glenn finds out who his dad is, which is a serial killer. He has accept who is real dad is. He has one good friend who he can turn to but is given support by others that are tied to his dad. Loved that involves death, murder and ghosts. Glenn is haunted by the victims of his dad and he is able to see how they die. Loved this book and ready for the next one!!

Review: Andrew Adams is a genius! How does a person come up with stories that leave you wondering even after you finish it? I will admit I have wondered how a person would feel if they discovered that one of their parents is a serial killer? This novel shows the reader how the main character Glen felt as he made that discovery! It was very scary when Glen starts to see the spirits of his father’s victims and how they were killed! This book had my head spinning with all the suspense there were times I genuinely felt angry to put this book down due to interruptions! If you enjoy crime with a dash of paranormal and suspense this will is the perfect book for you! I feel so lucky to have gotten to read this book in advance! This book comes out in May, 13th!
Glen, whose life is lacking in every aspect finds out that his absentee father is a deceased serial killer! The story follows him as he navigates his life after being in the spot light all of a sudden. He’s got the best of both worlds should I say lol
If you enjoy true crime, horror or both then I would recommend this book to you!
My favourite character has to be Brock since I like my psycho villains.
This book went places I did not expect, and I enjoyed the trip all the way to the end. But, honestly, the main character is such an annoying loser, several times I had to stop myself from screaming at him, opting to just close the book for a bit and clench my fists in anger! The fact that this guy turns out to be the son of a notorious killer (twenty years deceased), the son of a brutal multiple murderer, one whom everyone considers almost superhuman (if not the incarnation of the Nietzschean Uberman!), left me speechless. OK, he's traumatized by his mom (another unlikeable character), and he has no friends (except one female coworker who's like a saint after all she has to endure; many times I had to convince myself she was real!)- but he's, like, sleepy ALL THE TIME, never manages to finish even a single simple task, and his indecisiveness keeps him running in circles till he realizes what's really going on - and he's the last one to do so!
The poor guy starts having visions of his father's female victims in his own house, outta nowhere, for no special reason at all. His mom insists stonewalling him, and he just goes with it. For a while, I was under the impression this is some sort of dark comedy. However, this impression lasted only as far as the first third of the book: once the visions prompt him to investigate his situation deeper, things become serious, the story gets messy and quite violent, the Nietzchean vibes get even stronger (occasionally to the point of absurdity), and the plot transforms into a complex supernatural thriller.
As the action progresses, the supernatural elements are slowly abandoned for an entirely different focus. The second half of the book reminded me of the 2013 TV series "The Following" (minus the agents), which I enjoyed very much. The book's ending, though a bit open-ended, provided a much needed form of closure, one which fits the story perfectly and makes absolute sense of what's gone before. That said, there were a couple of crucial questions I never got answers to, so perhaps there'll be a sequel?
The book is an easy read, generally fast-paced, and delivers lots of action, emotion, psychological terror, and some nasty supernatural moments. I recommend it for its serious attempt to address both questions of morality (can a person be good if their parents are monsters? is morality totally subjective?) and fate (can a person avoid repeating their past mistakes indefinitely? do people have a choice?), in the form of a very interesting tale of mystery, horror, and suspense.
How would you react if you found out your father was one of the most infamous serial killers?
Andrew Adams has done a brilliant job writing an intriguing serial killer novel with a few twists & turns I didn't see coming. It has cults, protesters, and a couple of brilliantly executed fight scenes. There's also a supernatural element where Glen (the main character) sees, and even interacts with, his father's victims. We also see snippets of their deaths, gory details included. The third act is INTENSE, a couple of the twists actually made me audibly gasp. I really enjoyed this book, and I'm hoping Glen's story gets continued. If you're in the mood for a serial killer novel, I'd definitely recommend Son of a Serial Killer by Andrew Adams, which is out NOW through Mad Axe Media.

One night, he discovers he is the son of one of the most infamous serial killers, Brock Blackwood, who stirred up a media storm back in the 70s and 80s. Glen must come to terms with who he truly is, while navigating new pressures to either walk in his father’s shadow or break free from it for good.
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This was my second book by Adams, and I could not get enough! He is definitely one of my favorite horror indie authors, and I cannot wait to read more of his work. I love books about serial killers, and this one is about Glen who discovers that his father was a famous serial killer. Can you even imagine? 🤯 This book is on the darker side, which I love🙌🏻 The MC, Glen, is such a raw character and I was completely intrigued with him and his story. Not only does he discover that his father was a serial killer, but he also must navigate the fact that the ghosts from the murder victims are coming back to haunt him. I loved the twists and the suspense throughout, and enjoyed how Adams weaved a bit of supernatural elements throughout. This was a fun, dark, suspenseful read that I highly recommend for anyone who loves thriller/horror/serial killer books!
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆: ✦Serial killer books ✦Plenty of twists and suspense with some supernatural elements weaved throughout ✦An MC with a great story that completely intrigues you from the start ✦A dark, fun, and entertaining read
When the darkness comes calling it demands that legacy listens.
This is a roller coaster of a story. Glen is a data entry clerk who is an average Joe just living a very insignificant life until he learns that he shares blood with one of the most notorious serial killers to walk the earth, Brock Blackwood!
This is my introduction to Andrew Adams and I was hooked on his writing pretty quickly. Adams crafts a well paced story using beautiful words under a sinister guise.
This story explores dynamics with parents, childhood trauma, and some pretty extreme scenarios that are careful not to hurt the narrative as it all comes together very tight. I particularly found myself very sympathetic to the relationship between Glen and his mother.
We’ve got likable and relatable characters, the echoes of a bad bad man whose presence looms heavy throughout the story, and an interesting direction in the third act that left me guessing as I turned each page.
This story also features ghosts in a way that isn’t intended to be scary as much as a guiding tool and I liked that more than I expected in the end. I can see this storyline being turned into a limited series or something and working very well on screen as well.
You can run from your problems, but you can’t run from your destiny.
Another brilliant book from Andrew Adams! A psychological thriller that entertains and makes the reader think at the same time.
Every time I read a book by Andrew Adams, I know I’m in for so much more than a story! His books are always multilayered and there are always so many angles to read the story from. And in this book, he delivers what might seem a simple story, but that had me stop to think several times.
The protagonist Glen reminded me a bit of one of those characters in Greek tragedies, where the progeny has to pay for the father’s sins. Glen discovers that his father is THE worst serial killer ever existed and whilst a lot of trauma comes to life, he doesn’t know how much his life is going to change. Would he continue his legacy or would he break the mould?
There is a lot to unpack in this book, from the paranormal element, a device cleverly used by the author which enhanced the psychological elements, the public’s reaction to his “coming out” as the son of Brock Blackwood, and the cult element (an important part of the book). This last element in particular, I found very fascinating from a psychological point of view, and very credible too.
There’s so much to analyse in the story, but as always Andrew Adams manages to make it such an easy read, so fluid and with fast dialogues that result in a very enjoyable and thought provoking experience! And with a twist at the end!!
If you enjoy your thrillers with horror elements and with thought provoking developments, then this is it!
Thanks to the author and Mad Axe Media for a copy and this is my honest opinion.
I love serial killers stories. So I had to jump at the chance of reading this story, which offers a fresh and original perspective not into the serial killer's life and mine, but into his son's, the only person to bear a blood connection to one of the worst killers in history.
The story follows Glen as he is trying to find his way through the radical life changes that come with finding out his father is the guy who terrorised the world before his birth.
Get ready for a story that will give you everything you need, blood, action, suspense, emotion and more blood. The cherry on top, the father's victims are haunting the son, making him live the moments of terror of their last breaths, and imprinting the gory details of their murders in his brain forever.
The finale was not was what I expected, to be honest, and I would like to see a sequel for it.
This is the first book I have read by Andrew Adams and it will not be the last. Thank you so much for sending me an ARC copy to read for review.
Glen Overton is a quiet 30 year old who hasn't many friends and works a dead end job with a horrible boss. His mother is an alcoholic and he has more or less raised himself from a child. Imagine when he discovered hei s the son of a prolific serial killer who 20 years ago was electrocuted on death row. All of a sudden he is made to feel a superstar as only heir by a group of super fans with a crazy armed response. He goes with it and is made to feel powerful and famous but there is a dark group out to kill him also. However. Are the super fans really on his side or are they out just to get what they want.
I loved this book and was hooked from the start. If you haven't read this yet. Put it on your list. It is a must.
Glen Overton is a nobody. Dead end job, lives with his Mom, and only 1 friend. He never thought he'd amount to anything. There's just one problem: his Dad. Brock Blackwood was a prolific serial killer who some say left unfinished business. Will the son become the father or will he carve out his own path?
This was a very engaging read for me. Serial killers, ghosts, cults, true crime elements- what's not to love? I enjoyed seeing the character development of Glen. The plot twists in the story caught me slightly off guard which was refreshing. The end leaves the reader wondering if there will be a sequel or perhaps a series in the future.
I recommend this book if you like stories of family secrets, themes of identity, and a good old fashion slow burn thriller.
Son of a Serial Killer was SO GOOD! This had me hooked from the get go and I couldn’t stop reading it. Glen is just an average guy who randomly finds out one day that he is the son of a notorious serial killer. Glen was an amusing main character and it was nice to see him evolve throughout after his life was completely turned upside down. I loved the thrown in paranormal aspect of this. It definitely kept things interesting! The writing style was great and I can’t wait to check out more from this author! If you like a good serial killer/true crime/paranormal read, make sure to grab this one when it comes out on May 13th!
Andrew Adams does a great job mixing psychological horror with a bit of the supernatural in Son of a Serial Killer. The story follows Glen Overton, a burned-out office worker whose world gets turned upside down when he finds out his dad is the notorious serial killer Brock Blackwood. As Glen tries to deal with this shocking truth, he starts being haunted by his dad’s victims—and has to face the idea that he might be more like his father than he ever imagined. For fans of dark, character-driven thrillers with a supernatural twist, Son of a Serial Killer is a must-read.
I knew after black widow blues this author was going to be a force to be reckoned with. This one hit completely different. Finding out you are the son of a serial killer. What would you do? Especially as the ghosts from the past come to haunt you… There are supernatural elements to this and I LOVED it. An amazingly well thought out book that had me grilled from start to finish and I lost a “tiny” bit of sleep from bingeing it. Congrats on this Mr Adam’s another great book!!!
Son of a Serial Killer By: Andrew Adams Thriller Fast pace and exciting. I couldn't stop reading it. Andrew Adams's writing makes you want to turn the page. Glen was an ordinary boring guy, who came from a dysfunctional single parent household. Then Glen finds out the secret that his mother has been keeping from him. Will Glen survive, or go down in flames. Highly recommended for people who like fast paced thrillers.
After Glen discovers his father was an infamous serial killer, he spirals into an existential crisis. How would you feel knowing your father committed such cruel and heinous acts? Why did your mother never tell you? Does this make you predisposed to become a monster, just like him? All these questions are explored as the story unfolds. Thank you so much to Joey at Mad Axe Media for sending me an ARC. You can pick this up when it publishes May 13, 2025.
Imagine finding out that your father was an infamous serial k!ller…👀
Our MMC Glen discovers exactly that and then is faced with his father’s staunch supporters as well as those who want him gone for good! I really enjoyed the paranormal elements in this one! 👻
Definitely an interesting take on the serial k!ller story, so I recommend checking it out! 👏
Thank you to Andrew Adams for the opportunity to read the eARC in exchange for my honest review! ❤️
This was such an interesting take on this sort of story. It's a dark and intriguing story. Grabbed me from the start. I really enjoyed Brock's victims coming back, I think these were my favourite bits. At times it did feel abit robotic with some of the characters and the dialogue. Also not sure how I fully feel about the ending. But hard to say too much without spoilers.
This was my first book from Andrew Adams and I really enjoyed it.
Can you imagine finding out you are the son of a serial killer?
Packed with suspense, fast paced, this book will take you to places that you didn’t know exist. Learning the details, how he felt, all the emotions, it was very Intriguing.
Thank you so much Mad Axe Media for sending me the eARC.
Thank you to the author for sending me an epub of this book. Where to start! This was an interesting read. I enjoyed the concept of this book. The only thing I had a hard time with was the dialogue between Glenn and Brockwoods Babies. But other than that I loved this book!
I tried to get into this one but decided at 18% that I was going to DNF because in 6 weeks I hadn’t managed to get it to capture my attention. I hope to go back to it at some point and get through it further.
Son of a Serial Killer offers a look into the Blackwood family line that can't be missed. It explores topics of lineage, nature vs. nurture, serial killer lore, and so much more.
All I need to see are the words, Serial Killer, and I'm in. What would you do if you found out your dad was a serial killer? How could you cope? What do you do when your dad's victims show you how they died? This book is filled with action and suspense. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
