She’s a witch. He hunts killers. Solving murders is just the foreplay. Maggie Maxwell didn’t mean to become the town’s newest scandal.
But moving into her dead uncle’s haunted manor came with more than creaky headboards—it came with murders. Multiple. Right in her backyard.
And a six-foot-four officer, built like a wall of muscle and her filthiest desires, babysitting her like she’s breakable. He’s brooding, bossy, and overprotective—and Maggie? She’s sworn off quick flings. Especially since her love spell has a new side effect: obsessive, zombie-like exes who abandon their families just to worship the ground she walks on.
Oops.
_________
Life for Officer Graham Locke was simple. Thought he’d buried his past. But the new girl in town is the kind of trouble that unearths everything. Protecting her was supposed to be his job—not his kink. And all those years he’d spent denying the unexplainable? Yeah, they were for nothing.
Now it’s one supernatural nightmare after another.
But all he really wants—besides her—is a drink and maybe a slice of pie.
Sadie J. Foxx writes darkish paranormal mystery romances with unhinged banter and enough emotional baggage and unhealthy coping mechanisms to warrant a trip to a therapist. When she’s not making her characters behave like the feral smut goblins they are, she’s overthinking everything, making NSFW art, and trying (but failing) to grow out her hair.
Don’t be daunted by the length of this book. Readers won’t even realize that it’s as long as it is. The characters are incredibly developed. Sadie knows what readers want, as she hooked me from the first page. I knew I wasn’t putting the book down. Deadly Blooms is not all banter dialogue, though this is written quite well. The story has fantastic, fast-paced Haunted House and demonic possession action.
Readers follow Maggie, a witch who typically uses her powers to lure her true love to her—unsuccessfully. She gets love advice from her deceased Uncle. Things get complicated when she meets Graham, a cop she starts to fall for. Maggie is not easy, but she is a load of fun! Never mind that there’s some work hazard in being with her, like being possessed by evil entities.
Graham is not just the grumpy cop; his past emotionally weighs on him. And the way Sadie writes it got me quite verklempt.
As the story built up to a cliffhanger, many thoughts and feelings swirled through my mind. I can’t tell you how excited I am for Book 2. It will be a top priority to read for sure!

What the heck kind of ending was that!? I mean she warned us it wasn’t an hea, but that cliffhanger was on another level of emotional damage. Let’s back up a little, this book started off hot! When her estranged Uncle leaves her his estate, she wants to make a fresh start and decides to move from Ohio to Port Grey, Massachusetts. Maggie has always been the outcast, even in her family, especially when she started to get into witchy things. When dead bodies start piling up she’s their number one suspect. She’s not even in town a day and someone is out to get her. Graham is the cop assigned to her night watch. Since the first time they met there was instant attraction with sizzling chemistry and great banter. This is a flirty and filthy slow burn with a spicy payoff. To help solve the mystery behind the killings, her new friend Katie suggests a seance to talk with her dead Uncle Silas. Things go haywire when Graham is possessed by her Uncle and something much darker lurking in the shadows. This is a detailed and mysterious puzzle leading to a macabre and grotesque picture created by the killer who is after power from magical bloodlines, like Maggie’s. I loved the amateur sleuthing with the deliciously overprotective cop, Maggie’s witchy friend and a hacker/paranormal investigator. The ghost of Uncle Silas, the aunts, and of course her cat Chester were great additions to the crazy cast of side characters. This was an epic third act break up, so heartbreaking and no resolution! I better see some major groveling for the way at Graham acted. Even though he’s hurting and feeling things for Maggie he thought he’d never be able to again, he will need to grovel and grovel some more.
🚩Be sure to read the author’s note and content warnings before reading.
Thank you Sadie J. Fox for the ARC.

A Few Favorite Quotes: “There was something about the way her eyes glittered when she told us to basically f*€k off that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Like she could shank me and I’d apologize for bleeding.”
“You sure you know what you’re asking for? I’m nothing but bad decisions wrapped in regrettable tattoos, layered with trauma and tied to a stick of dynamite. With great $ex. It’s like playing roulette with someone’s red flags.”
“Because she was f*€king beautiful—not just her body, but the grit and the life under it, the fire in her chest. The way she looked at me like I was a puzzle worth solving, even if half the pieces were missing.”
“Max,” I said, voice low and sure, “as long as I’m around, you’re gonna know your smile’s godd@mn beautiful.”
“God, are we a thing? Because if we’re not, someone really needed to explain why my uterus threw f*€king confetti every time he looked at me.”
I really enjoyed the book, but some of the spice scenes left me baffled, especially the one with the marble statue. Wtf was that about? Aside from this, it was such a great read. And the ending… I’m counting the days until the second book comes out!
This is definitely one of my top books so far this year! It's not a small book, but kept me interested and entertained throughout! Great spice, mystery and that witchy/paranormal element made for an amazing story! You will follow the FMC as she moves to a new town, who almost immediately gets thrown into a whirlwind mess as a murder has landed right on her doorstep. But what better way to find out who did it than to team up with a hot cop, who is battling his past and isn't interested in woman beyond a physical 1 night fling. You never know where love may bloom, even covered in ectoplasm! Lots of triggers.
I can't wait for book 2!
I received an advance review copy free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Deadly Blooms by Sadie J. Foxx A Psychic Unreaveling, Book 1 Released: 9/1/25 ~715pgs
Cautionary tale this book is not intended for those with weak bladders.
Magic, paranorma, and hot $ex, as a reader could I ask for anything more? Maggie is the best FMC that I have read in a long time. She’s hilarious and sassy and all things strong. Paired with the back story of Graham this is the perfect emotional story with the perfect comic relief.
"Hard to stay horny when your mind was flooded with the lives you'd wrecked with magic because you wanted a quick f♡ck."
This was a very fun read! I will warn you that there was a lot of crying in the last few chapters, no HEA between the MCs, and a cliffhanger, but I can’t wait for the next part! So this might be the second-longest book I've read, but it's all worth it! There is so much plot, that it doesn't ever seem dragged out or boring. There is a TON of sexual tension between Maggie and Graham, which I felt frustrated for them myself! 😆
Maggie is a Sassy Witch who uses magic for hookups, she decides she wants something real. She gets her chance to start over when her Uncle Silas leaves her his house in Port Grey Mass. She's a mom to a cat named Chester.
Graham is a cop trying to make detective with a lot of past trauma, and he doesn't do relationships or feelings. He reminds me a lot of Dean Winchester from Supernatural, down to the love of food, and his flirty demeanor. Chester's first meeting with him is hilarious, their relationship reminds me of Josh and Fred from Lights Out.
They first met when her neighbor's dog found a body in her yard, and their murder mystery begins! It's a wild ride, especially with the side characters Katie, Derek, Uncle Silas, and Chester.
If you like books with a supernatural / witchy touch, a lot of good spice and incredible murder mystery plot, then make sure you add Deadly Blooms to youe tbr. This book is so good! One of my favourite reads of the year so far.
I was hooked from page one. We have a badass witch moving to a new town, a sexy cop with a traumatic past, a couple of characters also linked to the supernatural, a very cute cat, and did I forget to mention ghosts?? Oh and a murderer on the loose.
I don't want to say any more because I think it's better to go into this one blind, but if any of this sounds like your kind of thing then please give this book a go. You won't regret it.
⚠️ Check trigger warnings before reading this book. ⚠️
Deadly Blooms is a paranormal mystery murder story, with banter, many plot twists, and that ending.. no Sadie, i don't hate you, but why, lol. I can't wait for the next book.
Maggie, the witch, never had anyone truly loved here and has her own baggage from the past. When she inherited the house from her uncle Silas, she moved to his house in hopes of a new life so that she could leave her old life and habits behind her and start over. She definitely found a new life, but it's not what she imagined.
I loved Graham, the cop, strips for charity, does not play by the rules, and with a lot of baggage from the past, he always tried to ignore by using alcohol and meaningless f*cking. But then Maggie (Max) happened to him, and he can't ignore the past anymore.
I won't tell to much you just need to read this one, the book is long and do to my vacation it took me some time to finish it, but it is definitely worth it in the end.
Thank you, Sadie, for this book and looking forward to the next one.
This book was absolutely incredible. I couldn’t get enough of the story. I’m obsessed with Maggie and Graham. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out. Maggie has so much growth from the beginning of the story to the end. I love the fact that they both were emotionally unavailable in the beginning and still found each other. I am completely wrecked with the ending. Book two needs to come out tomorrow.
Give me book 2 RIGHT NOW! How could you do this 😭😭 Infinite fucking ⭐️’s!!!! This was beyond perfect!
I laughed, cried, gasped, raged and giggled. When I tell you I was left speechless and went through all the emotions that exist, I mean it.
This had it all. The thrill, the mystery, the drama, the shock, the twists, the comedy, the romance, the horror, the slow burn… I literally have NO words on how amazing this book is 🙌
The vibes were immaculate. Gothic, spooky, occult and witchy… The characters are over 30, the writing and details were phenomenal. I truly have no words. You NEED to read this. Now. And me??? I NEED the second book immediately 😩
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Witchy, Wicked, and Absolutely Addictive!
Deadly Blooms by Sadie Foxx is a sexy, spellbinding thrill ride from the very first page. Maggie Maxwell is the kind of heroine you instantly root for—sarcastic, powerful, and constantly attracting chaos (and the occasional zombie ex). Her haunted inheritance is the perfect backdrop for a string of murders, magical mishaps, and one gloriously grumpy cop who can’t seem to stay away.
Enter Officer Graham Locke: tall, tortured, and tasked with protecting the town’s newest scandal. His chemistry with Maggie practically scorches the pages. Every interaction is dripping with tension, banter, and just enough danger to keep things deliciously unpredictable.
This story blends murder mystery, steamy romance, and paranormal twists flawlessly. With haunted houses, obsessive love spells gone wrong, and a slow-burn that absolutely delivers, Deadly Blooms is a must-read for anyone who likes their romances dark, their magic a little messy, and their heroes armed and brooding.
Can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Maggie stirs up next
Imagine if Ghost Whisperer and Sabrina the Teenage Witch collided—then threw in a broody, hunky stripper-turned-police-officer in a quirky small town.
You’ve got witchcraft, murders, possessions, ghosts… and ghosting!
Maggie is a sassy, no-nonsense FMC with a sharp wit and a past that would break most people—but she carries it all like a boss. And Graham? His backstory is an emotional rollercoaster I didn’t see coming.
This was such a good read! I might be in love with Graham! Maggie definitely grew into herself as the story went on. That ending pissed me off in a good way haha, but I need book 2 NOW!
OK, I normally don’t write reviews unless it’s for a book I rate below three stars to say why. But I’m making an exception today because I really enjoyed the story and the authors writing, and sadly I don’t feel like it has enough reviews or recognition for the quality of work this book is. Honestly, I feel like this could be like the next BookTok sensation.
So without giving any spoilers, I will just say that the characters are compelling, the plot is complex - the overarching plot of the book, plus the interpersonal relationships between characters, and this is a romance, so of course there is some well written spice.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, enough to give it four stars, which is a high rating for me personally. I am so upset that the next book doesn’t release until July!
Deadly bloom is about a Maggie/Max who uses magic to seduce men. She moves from Ohio to a small town in Massachusetts. Graham is a grumpy cop who has had the worst thrown at him. He sleeps around just to feel. Graham is assigned to watch over Maggie due to all the death that keeps happening around her.
This book has lots of spice, banter, death, twist and turns that make you say WTF. It’s look but it keeps you engaged. It is not a HEA. Cannot wait for book two to come out next year!
Disclosure: I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. As someone who loves supporting indie authors, I always aim to share thoughtful, fair feedback. While I have personal reading preferences like a love for fantasy, horses, or specific tropes, I never let that impact my rating unless it is relevant to the book’s intent or audience. I review with the genre and readership in mind.
Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Excuse me gentlepeople, what on smoking good goddamn earth did I just read? I had to replan my entire spice rating for this book and I am not exaggerating. I am baffled. How do I even write about the rollercoaster this book put me on?
I annotated Deadly Blooms book like never before. The jokes, the plot, the spice, I was just leaving bookmarks and notes all over the book in a very VERY very good way. I am serious when I say DON'T ask me to choose a favorite quote because you will make my brain explode, I will cry, I will scream then faint.
Please for the love of smokey holy cows read the trigger warning novel (yes it is that long) before you jump into this story, I care for your sanity even if I want everyone to read this book so badly.
Just imagine the most unhinged plotline written ever, that actually makes sense and is entertaining, take it and multiply it with 10 and you get Deadly Blooms. Supernatural, murder mystery, spice and lots of exorcism included. It put me into a massive book hangover that feels like something I will never recover from, which apparently was expected as the book finished with the authors note: "Please don't hate me too much. Book 2 is coming!" What do you mean coming??? I need it like yesterday! How will I move on with my life without the next book? What will I even do??? I also loved the about the author notes... They wrote "darkish"... I repeat, "DARKISH" romance. What do you mean darkish? How does something go darker than this? What is in Book 2??? I am addicted to Sadie J. Foxx now, for a lifetime and it is maddening to wait. I am going to take a sauna with holy water to cleanse from the inside and outside (not that it will help).
An amazing quote from the book (again, impossible to choose favorite, my copy looks like a hedgehog from Temu with all the annotations): "I wanted to ride a pressure washer filled with bleach and holy water while a priest blessed my cooter with health and vitality."
It took me a little longer than usual to read the book, but a book with so many pages (which we love) deserves to be read slower for greater enjoyment.
Without a doubt, this book leaves me with mixed feelings. Some are good, and others I simply don't know how to describe.
The characters are unique and have a way of looking at life that could be described as rather peculiar. I want to be honest and tell you that at first I did find it a little difficult to connect with the FMC; there were a couple of occasions where I wondered why she acted the way she did or why she did what she did. However, as I delved deeper into the story, I saw the reasons behind her actions. I don't excuse her, but I understand her a little better now.
If someone is looking for a sexy, tall MMC in uniform... Meet Graham. What a man. He said “hello” and won me over, flaws and all, but what a man.
Both characters have unique qualities, somewhat traumatic experiences, and yet an attraction that can be felt on every page from their first encounter.
📍 Do I recommend it? ?
Yes, I recommend it! It's a book that, despite being long (we're talking 638 pages), has something that simply hooks and possesses you so that you can't put it down until you've finished it.
If you're looking for a paranormal romance with mystery, spells, characters who embrace the paranormal and others who simply refuse to accept it, this is the book for you!
".. at thirty-six, most folks have some idea where their life's headed. But you? Not you, dear. You like to take life by the horns.. and then let it steer."
This was a too-fast paced witchy paranormal soap opera. The amount of drama stuffed into one book was outrageous. Most of the smaller plot happenings seemed to be piled ontop of one another which made this feel like you were reading it at 2x speed.
Maggie is escaping her past of magically convincing men to sleep with her (yes, you read that right. She even calls them 'victims') , and ends up meeting Graham, who makes his hookups seem like a catch and release fishing system. They both have their own issues and problematic pasts which is relatable. I also appreciated they were both over 30, that was a nice change of pace from most other novels. However, the way that both of them act at different times in the book, considering that they are 30 is rather appalling. Maggie seems to jump to fast conclusions and have an angry streak, even at her closest friends. And Graham is an expert at secrets. There were also a lot of .. innovative spicy scenes, one of which was quite shocking and just not for me. I pushed through but they just kept getting weirder and not for the better in my opinion.
The secondary characters like Katie, Derek, Silas and even The Aunts were more interesting to me then Maggie. Graham took the cake though; I wanted to know everything about him, his motivations, likes and dislikes.
At around 75% I lost interest, despite it being the ramp up to the ending, I was just getting overwhelmed with the saga that had already gone on. Perhaps this should have been 2 books instead. Due to the spelling errors, grammatical errors and even some scene dynamics that did not make sense, I found myself drifting off. If I read the words papasan, Good Girl or Pretty Girl, one more time I probably would have given up and not finished the book. They were very, very overused.
If you want an overly dramatic paranormal witchy mystery book that keeps you on your toes, and don't mind it being a long read, try this one out.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
**Check Trigger Warnings** Excuse me while I go into a book coma for however long I have to wait until the second book comes out. I need to gather my soul after that emotional rollercoaster I just endured. Where do I even begin?! I was hooked immediately from the very first sentence of the first chapter. Maggie’s unfiltered personality was extraordinary. And I immediately loved every bit of it. The main characters throughout—Maggie, Graham, Derek, Katie, Chester, Silas, all of them— were truly created with absolute astonishing energy. This entire book held onto my breath and soul. I laughed out loud, I giggled, I questioned my sanity, I said WHAT THE FUCK more times than I remember, my heart broke, I cried (a little). The story I just obsessively read, was something so unique and something so special, that I’m never going to forget it. This was so compelling and I cannot stop thinking about it. A book (series) that is going to consistently live rent free in my head for the rest of days and even in the afterlife. There was magic, heartbreak, ghosts, murder, mystery, thrills, spice, banter, new friends, a hot cop and the little fur ball kitten—everything I could ever dream of. And it was done so effortlessly. This is forever going to be a favorite of mine. It truly was phenomenal and I can’t wait to go back and reread it again. And again. This is the type of book that you buy in multiple copies and display proudly on your shelves as the magical piece it is. If you want to dive into the world of the paranormal, romance, heartbreak, murder mystery and so much more—read this. You will regret nothing. I know I don’t. •••••••••• I cannot thank the author ENOUGH for allowing me to receive an ARC. I will scream from the rooftops about this book for as long as I can. THANK YOU @sadiejfoxx
Deadly Blooms is pure chaos in the best was possible, and I loved every minute of it. The plot was wild and unpredictable, the kind of story you can't put down because you just have to see what antics come next. It blends so many elements seamlessly: magic, paranormal activity (hello ghosts), lots of steamy moments, laugh-out-loud banter, and plenty of mystery with action. This is one of those books that readers will remember for all the right reasons.
Maggie Maxwell and Officer Graham Locke are larger than life leads. Their tension practically steamed off the page, their banter had me in stitches, and their chemistry was instantaneous. Then supporting cast, Dexter, Uncle Silas, Katie, and the delightfully quirky aunts, Clover and Ruby, added so much richness and humor to the story. And then there's Chester the cat, who absolutely stole the show. He was purrfect in every single scene.
This book was the perfect way to kick off the start of the spooky season, equal parts fun, steamy, and a little eerie.
"Silas,my man. What's new in the world of the dead?"
"Because love -- real love -- was a risk. And I wanted someone who'd take that risk for me. Someone who'd see the mess I was, and the mess they were, and still choose me."
I devoured this book!! Well over a 600 page book read in 5 days in-between everything else I had going on 😅 Every opportunity I was reading this!
Gonna leave some Cryptic comments so as not spoil anything lol
💫Graham - this dude has some serious trauma but my god I loved him and I hurt for him. His scenes with Chester had me swooning ... it was adorable!! 😍
💫Maggie - this woman was badass and I really liked how she progressed through the book ... kinda 😅🤣
💫Chester - Erghhh Chester 😍 that is all ... you will need to read it to find out 🤣
💫Silas - This dude erked me at times but I grew to love him too - Mr I'm watching you 👀👀
💫The side characters were hilarious too and I cant wait for more!!
That ending had me ranting at Sadie though 🤣🤣 .... I am NOT a happy girlie but it was still a 5* 😅
I have really enjoyed this story with its Ghosts, Witches and .... ectoplasm... stuff 🤣 I was laughing out loud so much!
Annnd I may or may not be doing something cool for Sadie too 👀🥰

Then this book is for you! Do check TWs though as some parts are dark!
Also I was supposed to be reading this with @mortal_reader but shes been a busy bee and I couldn't wait to start this while I had a few days off 😅 I am really looking forward to her updates though! 😬
Not going to lie, this was a much longer read than I thought it would be! Not because it was bad, the story actually flowed really well and there was so much witty banter, I was ridiculously entertained. It was just a much larger book for me. It's also only book one in the Psychic Unraveled series. There is no HEA between the love interests and this does end in a cliffhanger so you have been warned.
It reminded me a little of the shenanigans from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but everyone is grown and the consequences to magic use can be a lot more deadly. There was such a flair for the dramatics at every point and I gasped and chuckled way too many times to keep track. I mean, we start with Maggie literally moving because she promises she's never use a love spell again and yet proceeds to have one last hurrah before she leaves haha.
I will say, pay attention to the trigger warnings. If you want to read this story, you definitely want to be comfortable with most things. This book is spicy, tensions are high really frequently. With all that said, it is still a bit of a slow burn. There's plenty of build up to the smut which was a nice change of pace where the character are insta lust but not insta love.
All in all an enjoyable read, would recommend for those who love witchy antics, murder mysteries, hot detectives, a little ghost action, and many more similar themes.
Maggie is a witch. Graham hunts killers. Solving murders is really just the foreplay. Maggie Maxwell didn't want to become the town's newest scandal.
But Maggie discovers that moving into her dead uncle's haunted manor comes with more than just creaky floorboards – it also comes with murders. Multiple. All right in her backyard.
Graham is a six-foot-four officer, who's built like a wall of pure muscle and he's Maggie's filthiest desires, and he babysits her like she's breakable glass. He's this brooding, bossy, and overprotective – and Maggie? She's decided she's done with the quick flings. Especially since her love spell suddenly has a new side effect: obsessive zombie-like exes who decide to abandon their families and worship the ground Maggie walks on.
Oops.
Officer Graham Locke's life had always been simple. He thought he'd left his past behind, buried it deep down. But, the new girl in town, Maggie, is pure trouble and manages to dig up everything. Officer Graham was just supposed to protect her, that was his only job – it wasn't supposed to be his kink. And all the years that he'd spent saying that there was no supernatural and he'd deny the unexplainable? Yeah, all that was actually for nothing.
Now Officer Graham finds that he's dealing with one supernatural nightmare after another.
But, all Graham wants – besides Maggie – is to have a drink and maybe just a simple slice of pie.
YOU'RE MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!!! Please read the trigger warning at the beginning/end of this book before you read this book. There is content in this book that can be extremely damaging or triggering to some readers. Please remember that your mental health comes first at all times and should never be put at risk for any book.
Tropes: 1st in the Series, Not a HEA – Yet *Cliffhanger*, Insta-lust but Slow-Burn, Dirty Talkers, Witty & Unhinged Banter, Forced Proximity, Grumpy/Grumpy, Toys, He's Coded like Dean...?, Obsessive/Protective MMC, Light BDSM, Tragic Past, Found Family, and FMC/MMC over 35.
Deadly Bloom is the 1st book in the Psychic Unraveled series by Sadie J. Foxx. The best way that I can describe this book is to say imagine that Ghost Whisperer collided with Sabrina the Teenage Witch and then you added in this hunk who was once a male stripper and then turned into a cop and it was all based in a small town. And it was absolutely fantastic.
We get it all in this book. Witchcraft, murder, possessions, ghosts....and even ghosting.
Maggie is just so sassy and no-nonsense and I just loved her sharp wit. But, at the same time, we know that she has a dark and haunted past that is full of trauma and yet she manages to carry it with grace and courage.
And Mr. Graham his backstory is just an emotional roller coaster that hits you like a brick that you never see coming.
I liked the mix of the paranormal and crime. It was a unique take and it felt different then what has been done in the past. And I loved the balance of the characters and all their information they offer. And they all help to keep the story moving forward together with equal push and pull.
There were things that Maggie did that I didn't like. The whole thing with the truth serum and love serum kind of bothered me. And the whole truth serum thing is just to see if the guy wants to sleep with her, and she has no remorse for what she does. But, I also know that this is the first book and in book 2 her character could change and grow. And I also look at the past that Maggie has gone through and that also plays into her current behaviour.
Graham was such a great character and he was so beautifully fleshed out. In some ways, I was happy and yet sad to see him leave in the end. I was happy to see him go because he in so many ways he deserved so much better than Maggie. But, at the same time, I was sad to see him go because I thought he could have been such a good influence on Maggie and he could have helped her to grow as a character and he could have helped her to become a better character.
There were also moments when I got a bit confused about how characters came to be a part of the story. I mean Maggie met Katie and all of the sudden they are best friends. Then suddenly Derek and the aunts are there. I do understand how Derek is both a paranormal expert and one of the top-level hackers. Those are things he could have known before entering the picture.
And Silas confused me with wanting to kick Maggie out and somehow spills some tea leaves that leave a message that leave a message saying the same thing. But, at the same time, Silas has also been putting away $450 for Maggie has never mentioned it for some reason so she knew she had something to fall back on. It was all so odd to me.
I am looking forward to the next book and seeing what happens to our characters and where the storyline goes. Maggie has now become this new powerful medium ghost detective and for some reason, her power is suddenly developing in ways that didn't seem clear but I honestly didn't need that to be clearly explained as I knew that powers could grow and develop without explanation.
I recommend Deadly Bloom and I am looking forward to the next book. Just remember to read all the trigger warnings at the end of the book before you start the book.
I look forward to reading more of Sadie J. Foxx's books. This was the first of Sadie's books that I have read and I can honestly say that it's not going to be the last.
I a little torn. I did enjoy the book... however did have some issues. Some of the formatting choices the author made were a little odd. Lots of short sentences. Broken up over many lines. I get it's for emphasis. But, when overused. It becomes frutrating to read.
That's a small gripe and absoltulely a personal annoyance.
The overall story is decent and does work out in the end - I don't mind the idea and mix of paranormal and crime - it did feel a little drawn out in places and almost overcomplicated (or potentially under explained...) and then to balance this a dumping of extra characters and information to catch up. It all resolved in the end, but some was a push.
A super spicy murder mystery with a strong paranormal presence and lots of trauma - that would be the incredible debut Deadly Blooms.
After inheriting her great uncle’s manor in a small town, Maggie is looking for a fresh start. She has been using her witchy powers to enchant lovers and it would be fair to say it has been backfiring a little.
But her arrival is far from smooth. Within hours, a body is discovered on her property and she finds herself getting to know the local police - including the incredibly hot, brooding Graham.
As things heat up between them, Maggie amasses a found family of very entertaining characters to help her unravel the mysteries of the manor. But danger - both physical and paranormal - continues to threaten the new life she is building.
SO. This was a hefty read and it was absolutely worth it. At times laugh out loud funny, at others devastatingly sad, this is a thrilling story. The side characters were spectacular - from the cat Chester to the ghost of Uncle Silas to the more than slightly eccentric aunts Ruby and Clover, there’s plenty of wonderful people to meet and fall in love with in this story.
Maggie and Graham’s romance may be slow burn, but this is a very sex positive book - the fourth word of the story is cock. It is absolutely open door (alllll the way open) and may include ectoplasm and extremely inappropriate usage of a statue of a Roman god.
There are multiple themes that are potentially triggering. The major one is the murder of a character’s wife and young daughter off page. There is very real, raw grief and trauma surrounding this that could be difficult to read. The book discusses possession, religious oppression, cults, serial killers and stalking.
This is book one in a new series. While the primary story line is resolved, it is not a happy ending (sob!) and you will want the next book yesterday. Readers of dark romantic comedy (especially with a paranormal slant) will enjoy this book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Wickedly charming, deliciously dark, and utterly addictive.”
Maggie Maxwell is not your average witch—she’s sassy, haunted, and absolutely drowning in drama. Between a haunted manor and a trail of murders, she’s got more than enough trouble. Enter Officer Graham Locke: brooding, built like a tank, and way too good at making Maggie’s pulse race.
Their chemistry? Electric. Their banter? Sharp as a witch’s spell. Their situation? Complicated as hell. Maggie’s spells have side effects that make breakups brutal and exes borderline undead, while Graham’s no-nonsense cop exterior hides a man grappling with a world he thought he left behind.
This story is a wicked mix of:
Supernatural suspense that keeps you guessing
Slow-burn romance with plenty of sass and heat
A dash of dark humor and small-town secrets
A brooding protector who’s as conflicted as he is irresistible
If you love witches, mystery, and a hero who might just be your favorite kind of trouble, this one’s a spell you’ll want to get caught in.
Hands down, one of my favorite reads this entire week. This book had me rolling from start to finish. The FMC—Maggie Maxwell—is such a relatable character, but the things that she goes through are absolutely wild for a 36 year old, practicing witch with paranormal abilities. And, don’t get me started on the 43 year old, MMC—Graham Locke—the guy is just as wild as Maggie, for being a cop.
When I tell you that Maggie and Graham were literally a match made in heaven—or hell—they really were. I was 100% invested in this book any time I opened it.
It seriously made me laugh a lot, but it made me cry as well. This book in my opinion is not an HEA, and it does end on a cliff hanger.
There are some wild things to look out for in the book, so please check the trigger list before getting involved. If you’re interested in murders, blood, gore, ghostie hook ups, then this book isn’t for you. But if you don’t mind it, and you want a cute, funny, hot and sad little roller coaster.. Here you go. This book is so worth it, on so many levels.
