Tudo o que eu sinto por este livro é repugnância; não pelo livro em si mas por aquilo de que fala. São dados a conhecer ao leitor vários homens que ao longo de séculos impuseram o seu poder e vontade sobre milhões de pessoas cometendo atrocidades inimagináveis. Podemos, a partir destes relatos, criar um perfil de ditador; conseguimos verificar os aspetos que estas pessoas (se assim as podemos chamar) têm comum: infância difícil, figura paternal violenta, frustração por não terem conseguido entrar na escola ou no emprego que queriam, etc...
É um livro para aprender mas também para refletir, e fazer a ponte entre o passado, o presente e o futuro, para que estas situações não se voltem a repetir. Porém, o facto é que elas se repetem e repetem, havendo ainda países com esta forma de governo. Por isso, algo está mal e tem de se tentar entender porquê.
Para quem não tem grandes conhecimentos de história, não se acanhe por isso à leitura deste livro: a autora contextualiza no tempo e no espaço e conta a vida de cada ditador desde o nascimento até à morte, sem ser maçador ou aborrecido, mas sim mantendo o fio à meada e fazendo com que o leitor queira saber mais e mais. Não se detendo apenas nos mais recentes ou mais conhecidos, como Hitler ou Estaline, as biografias vão desde Somoza (Nicarágua) a Pinoche (Chile), ou de Mugabe (Zimbábwe) a Ceausescu (Roménia)
O senão deste livro é o facto de ser de género informativo, sendo que o leitor não consegue absorver tudo aquilo que lê, retendo apenas as partes mais importantes ou aquilo que, por razões pessoais, mais lhe chamou à atenção.

I read this book very slowly because there were so many terrible things described that really happened that I felt as if my soul was being drained out with each successive chapter. The book was decently written, but I'm not sure what audience the book was meant for. I got it at a discount for research, hoping to use some of the historical facts, but this is not something that I think most people would read for fun. However, like a train wreck, it did hold a grotesque fascination. If you want to see pictures and see descriptions of real life evil, that book delivers fully.

Podia ser mais completo, ter mais informações, mas é bom. Mas acho que pecou ao tratar de Saddam Hussein, ele não chegou simplesmente no poder, ele foi ajudado pelos americanos como um peão num tabuleiro de xadrez para bater de frente com a República Islâmica do Irã. Depois os americanos se arrependeram como se arrependeram de ajudar Osama Bin Laden.

This book objectively shows the cruelties of dictators from different countries and epochs. Based on it, we find out how much malice and power a dictator possesses while conditioning the entire population to obedience. The cult of personality is present in every villain, which is not illogical when you have so much power and strength, which instead of using it for the benefit of the people, you exercise in your own pocket and interest. Ideological and political ideas did not concern the population If you want to get to know the heinous acts and terror of these leaders, this book is a great start. I will definitely meet other works by this author in the future. Definite recommendation!

This book was very interesting and provided a lot of information. I was left wanting though since there are whole books written on each dictator. However, it was good for what it was: an introduction to the world's most famous dictators.
