Hell Bound!

Rate this book
With a strange alien object abruptly appearing and then starting to streak toward the Earth ship Adventure, which is stuck in a helpless orbit around Mars, Mission Commander Frank Norrick must make a decision whether to attempt to destroy the object with his ship's laser cannons, or to gamble in peacefully waiting for the object to perhaps decelerate completely, stop in front of the Adventure and engage in an historic first in directly communicating with his ship. Frank wants to make Earth’s first contact with an alien race to be peaceful, yet the alien object barreling along at a breakneck speed is in danger of ramming his ship or perhaps opening fire at any time. As Earth’s first potential representative, Frank wants to prevent a war with these aliens but must also protect his ship. He is in a dilemma of what to do and remains frozen in indecision as the alien ship enters point blank range of the Adventure’s laser cannons.

Whatever Frank's decision, the Adventure had been polluted with unknown treasonous personnel when it had left Earth that have seriously sabotaged the ship's propulsion and life support systems making it impossible to return to Earth alive. As Frank's problems mount to a crescendo, he continues to fall apart mentally, relying on liquor to keep him going. Set up by the faceless traitors through treachery, Frank and his Deputy Mission Commander, Sarah Norrick, become falsely identified as traitors themselves to their superiors at Mission Control and are marked for death as soon as they can be apprehended.

Having locked himself into the main deck with two trusted crew members, Frank had quarantined the rest of the crew and passengers away from him, which presumably contain treasonous personnel among them. But with the help of Mission Control, the locked out crew members and passengers plot to break onto the main deck, kill Frank and Sarah Norrick, and then take over the ship. Additional assets have also been sent from Earth that are able to supply or create the necessary replacement parts to restore the Adventure to its full functionality. Their orders also include to immediately execute the "treasonous" Norricks as soon as they board the Adventure.

Frank and Sarah thus enter a no-win situation where they would either die in space when their life support gives out, or be killed by their own crew, or be furiously executed the moment a rescue party boards their ship and breaks through the hatches to the main deck, or be immediately executed after a short military tribunal if they can manage to return to Earth and land their crippled ship. So for the Norricks, there is no way out alive! What is going to happen? Can they avoid death and convince their superiors that they are innocent?
