I don’t belong above ground. I’ve spent my whole life living below ground, and it’s only after an earthquake that I end up above ground. To survive on the surface, in the mountains, exposed to weather and animals, I have to join forces with sexy Anhelo, Quin Collier to survive. I have to hide my unique ability from Quin. Who knows what he would think or do if he found out about it. As circumstances work against us in getting me back to an entry portal, I learn more about life in the surface country of Anhelon. But in order to continue to hide my ability and protect myself, I must get back down to my country of Deorsus.
There’s just one problem. The longer I’m forced to remain in Anhelon, the more I find myself wanting to stay. And this growing attraction I feel for Quin? This can’t happen. We’re from two different worlds. I have to leave the surface.
Natural disasters had been accelerating, devasting regions and cities around the world, but in 2029 they began threatening all life on earth. Flooding occurred in areas it never had before. Monsoons never stopped raining. The polar icecaps and glaciers rapidly melted raising ocean levels and plunging coastal regions of the world underwater, changing and shrinking continents. To survive, the people on the old North and Central American continents had to burrow down, away from hostile surface conditions broiling with disease, nuclear fallout, and anarchy. Cities developed underground. Centuries later, some people chose to split apart from the underground survivors and return to the surface to resettle the land. It was a vastly changed world they emerged into. Now called the continent of Amaruca, the Deorseans live below the earth’s surface, while the Anhelo live above it. These tales are the Chronicles of Amaruca.
